freezing temperatures created a icy mess at a a water main break overnight. student in south jersey are taking advantage of the big game today to help those in need. >> more on those in a moment but first meteorologist chris sowers has very latest on our next winter storm. >> it is closer and closer live along sky six, leading edge of the snow is pushing through pittsburgh, and southwestern portion s of pennsylvania. we expect some of that snow to move in here probably after five or 6:00 o'clock this afternoon. in the meantime there is view of center city sky line, gray, not much sunshine, temperatures on the chilly side. 36 degrees in philadelphia. millville 38. wilmington 37. dover closing in on 40, and allentown 33. all of these numbers are already warmer then high temperatures that we saw yesterday. we will continue to climb throughout the day. we have a bit of the breeze but wind chills are still certainly easier to handle then yesterday. we were as low as minus 20 in the poconos. big improvement up there. twenty-three up there right now. trenton feels like 29. philadelphia 29. wilmington 37. and dover is 34.

>> reporter: hi, nydia. some officials from penndot say we will have a press conference today at 1:00. they have moved that to 4:00 to let us know what preparations they are making in response to that forecast. now normally in these situations the the besides the crew penndot already has with their salt and plow trucks they also had contractors again depending on what type of weather event that they are expected to get. now some of the things they do in preparation of the storms, that may actually already been in place or when they brine some of the highways and byways that they do have to treat beforehand. brining is usually done several days in advance. they may have those roadways treated. if they decide to treat those roadways with salt ahead of time it is best to lay down that salt, above freezing temperatures. so today like chris is saying with the temperatures that we're having around 36 degrees, right now in norristown would be a good time to salt those area

roadways. we are actually seeing some weather, in our area, may not be in pennsylvania but take a look at these flurries, this is what we saw this morning in delaware and elsmere, delaware and, of course, all around we are expecting a mixed bag. you heard what chris was saying we might have freezing rain in some areas, rain in other areas and also snow. definitely something that for tri-state area, they are all going have to have to be prepared obviously for the worst but again, depending they may not have to do different preparations depending on what they do get. back out here live, the the good news is with penndot for their salt yard that they do have in their five county region here with district six those salt yard from malvern to south philadelphia, they have plenty of salt available. that is because compared to last year at this time, last year they used four times the amount of salt if you remember that horrible winter that we had. one good point is we have plenty of salt prepared for whatever comes our way. reporting live from

"action news" begins tomorrow at 4:00 a.m. freezing temperatures overnight created potentially dangerous conditions in philadelphia after a water main busted, water gushed from a ruptured main in the 1200 block of montgomery avenue, near girard in the fishtown section. it happened right in front of the 26th district philadelphia police department. pgw crew is a arrived within an hour to shut off that main. a police officer had to block the road as water quickly turned to ice. crews are out there this morning, repairing the leak. new at noon the the search is on for a man who ran out of the pennsylvania state prison today. the inmate is john williams devon of bellefonte bellefonte, and investigators say he pulled a fire alarm earlier this morning the at

warnersville correctional facility. he ran out of the building to a red passenger car waiting for him. the car then sped off. officials have not yet said what he was doing time for. if you think you might know where he is, pennsylvania state police want to hear from you. fire fighters in the mercer county battled two alarm blaze and elements at a strip mall overnight. it happened here on the 2300 block of spruce street in ewing township just after 4:00 this morning. fire ripped through super seven convenient store and then spread to a nearby liquor store. a driver on spruce street saw the fire and called 911. super seven was badly damage liquor store was also damaged by the the fire. no one was hurt and no word on what sparked the blaze. those who traveled to arizona for tonight's super bowl will experience incredibly tight security. at least 72,000 people are expected in the university of phoenix stadium. >> helicopter will whoever above while fbi agents will be armed with bomb sniffing dogs on the ground.

the storm heading our way has shown it can throw a big punch in the chicago area. there were blizzard-like conditions at o'hare airport the storm is expected to leave more than a foot of snow in northern illinois indiana and northwest ohio. no matter where you are you will have to take it slowly for your monday morning commute. >> in areas where we are not expect that much ice and snow like south jersey and delaware there will be pond ing on area roadways because rain is coming down so heavily. the as we go outside, the the view of philadelphia international airport a nice quiet sunday afternoon. wind relaxed. it feels better out there right now then it did yesterday at this time. storm tracker six live double scan we had a few flurries earlier on. that is it. new we are left with clouds. we are expect ago this light snow to redevelop later this afternoon, probably after five

or 6:00. 36 degrees dew .25. wind shifting out of the west at 9 miles per hour. that has allowed these temperatures to climb above freezing. lone exception being lancaster at 31 and poconos at 26. everybody else climbing up in the mid to upper 30's which is a good sign. as this in moisture moves in temperatures are above freezing it will be difficult for that snow or ice to stick. but as we get those temperatures dropping below freezing mark that is when we have issues. here's storm tracker six live heavy snow to the north heavy rain to the south. the question being where that rain/snow line set up for us in the delaware valley. right now it looks like it will initially set up along the pennsylvania turnpike, from that point north, it is snow from that point south it is rain. it should getting around 6:00 this evening from west to east. then you can see how quickly it expands in coverage here and how quickly it intensifies. by midnight this is a good snow falling for areas west of the delaware river. south jersey and delaware looks like rain but that

rain/snow line then lifts toward the north. as we get into monday morning. by 6:00 in the morning this particular model this may be a little too high but this particular model has rain/snow line all the way up in the poconos. we will see how that plays out. it looks like you will get snow accumulation changing over to ice and then eventually changing over to rain. the latest forecast information coming in now still looks like a non-event at least snowfall wise for philadelphia, all of the models are really low on the snowfall totals except european which is showing 2 inches of snow but even that is not that big of a deal here in philadelphia in the lehigh valley, this looks like somewhat bigger event but this model has come down significantly. gfs3 and a half, european close to five, r p.m., four-point # tn a the in m just came in a half an hour ago and that has dropped it down to 1.3 because that model is suggesting more sleet and freezing rain. taking overturing the overnight hours. when you take all that forecast information and you put it together on a map this is what it comes out to. we have not made too many

changes to this idea. 6 inches plus from allentown to the poconos. actually get up in wilkes barre scranton they will see anywhere from eight to 10 inches of snow out of this. we will zoom in tighter 3-inch line will run from pottstown to doylestown and includes quakertown and kutztown. allentown looks like you will be close to the 6-inch line. one to three for coatsville, wayne, and philadelphia more importantly, i'm becoming more concerned about the icing issue that will fall on top of the snow that a accumulates overnight tonight. this will be north of the pennsylvania turnpike, perhaps one to .2 of an inch of ice for places like reading, kutztown pottstown and allentown. any untreated surfaces sidewalks, parking lots back roadways could be very slick. morning commute looks very typical for lehigh valley. we will have snow accumulation as well as ice accumulation slushy roads possible for northwestern suburbs and then for the city points south and east including south jersey and delaware it looks like mainly just wet roadways. the mostly cloudy, snow developing late, up to

>> and whitney houston's daughter is in the hospital after she was found painfully reminiscent of her mother's death. but first a check of the "action news" forecast with meteorologist chris sowers and we are getting ready for a whole slew of things. >> perfect way to put it. lots on the table in the next 24 to 36 hearst but i have to tell you being that there is a snowstorm heading this way, winter storm for everybody else there does than the feel that bad out here. it the is very quiet. not a breath of air. the wind calmed down. it feels good. 36 degrees right now in philadelphia millville 38. dover is pushing 40. reading is 35. allentown 33. and trenton showing 36. here's the winter storm we are watching, this has turn into a major snowstorm for chicago area where they have pick up 10 inches of snow. still blizzard warnings in effect there. this storm stretches from iowa all the way to western pennsylvania and there will be a ban southern great lakes states to the northern ohio valley there will be a large ban where we see six to 12 inches of snow.

some 60 million americans could see over 6 inches of snow or more with this storm system when all is said and done. we will dodge another pretty large bullet here in the delaware valley. cloudy skies snow developing late this afternoon. probably after five or 6:00 o'clock. and it will move from west to east. we are looking at a high right around 40 degrees. not that 37 there. i cannot stress this enough hitting road tomorrow morning especially north of philadelphia, if you live north of the pennsylvania turnpike, exercise caution. there will be icy patches out there, slushy back roadways, parking lots, sidewalks, things like. that we are looking at a three to 6-inch snow accumulation in those areas. some ice on top of it. national weather service has issued winter storm warnings for the area that you see highlighted in pink and that is where we are expect not only that significant accumulation of three to 6 inches of snow but also that accumulation of ice, so it includes upper bucks upper montgomery counties, berks county lehigh north hampton counties, as well as the the

the accident closed a south bun lanes of the road in wilmington for three hours. from our delaware news room also fire fighters were called to the scene of the deadly crash in hockessin overnight. police say that the driver of the mercury mountaineer lost control after the vehicle was sideswiped if are by another koran route 41 at graves road at 2:30 this morning. the suv careened out of control, hit a concrete island and overturn. the roof of the suv struck a keep trapping the driver inside. that driver was killed instantly. two people in the other car, suffered minor injuries. a one car crash, on the roosevelt boulevard, has cost a woman her life. the the action cam was at the scene, 4600 block of the boulevard, in the frankford section of philadelphia. police say that the woman was speeding when she lost control here at 4:50 this morning and then slammed into a tree. the female driver was thrown from the car the vehicle burst into flames. the the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. bensalem police department is mourning the the tragic loss of a dedicated detective who died while running a

a married couple climbing oregon's mount hood has been rescued after the husband and wife, almost fell to their deaths. >> the climbers short rope, slid down the the mountain at a high rate of speed. >> after they saw the climbers had to dodge ice chunks the size of basketballs until help arrived. crews pulled off a daring, dangerous rescue of the pair some 10,000 feet up the mountain. a rescue team that happened to be getting trained in the area formed a human shield with

in wilmington, south jersey and delaware this looks like mainly a rain event. time line looks like the same, they have not made adjustments, starting later this evening between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. in the form of light snow heavier snowfalls, between 1:00 and 7:00 in the morning. then between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. tomorrow we will see that rain and wintry mix come to an end. arctic front barrels through and you'll see those temperatures really drop, significantly during the of afternoon. expected snowfall totals one to three in the shade of gray. three to six north of the pennsylvania turnpike and then we will get in the allentown area lehigh valley, right on the edge there, we will put 6-inch line right there through allentown from that point north we will go 6 inches plus. we will have a concern for ice north of the pennsylvania turnpike, it includes reading, pottstown, kutztown allentown, quakertown and doylestown. we will start off as snow, and accumulate three to 6 inches. then we will get over to this glaze, freezing rain, that will make traveling very

in preparation for another winter storm heading our way. the the storm is expected to move in tonight and bring a mix of snow and rain. crews are repairing a broken water main in the fishtown section of philadelphia after stopping leak by shutting down the line. water gushing from the ruptured line quickly froze on the 1200 block of montgomery avenue. and pennsylvania state police are looking for this man john williams, he set off a fire alarm at warnersville correctional facility in southwestern pennsylvania and ran out of the prison building and into a car waiting for him. so far officials have not said what he was doing time for. 12:56. lets get one last check of the weather. >> lets go right over snowfall totals. here's what we speculate they are evening between hours of six and 8:00 o'clock and lasting overnight into tomorrow morning. these are snowfall totals south jersey and delaware looking at mainly a rain event. one to 3-inches from lancaster, coatsville rain philadelphia, mount holly to lakehurst and then just north of there, running parallel to the pennsylvania turnpike, from reading pottstown
