instantly that the ice up stuff is gone. in allentown we're closer to the freezing mark and the farther north you go the more careful you have to be. we have a winter weather advisory in effect for philadelphia, trenton and wilmington all the central counties highlighted in purple until 5:00 a.m. then we think it will be warm enough. up north there's the possibility of the warning extending until 1:00 p.m. because the icy and snowy conditions will linger longer there. it's slushy and icy, may have flooded roads with the rain coming down and the slush trying to do get into the storm drains. as we roll through the day we see the numbers jump and drop. 8.m., 37 and 2:00 p.m., 43 and

we're below freezing by 6:00 p.m. anything that doesn't dry could freeze up in the afternoon. karen, what are you looking at now? >> reporter: most of the highways are slush. lionville route 13, it's a day you have to take your speeds down and expect slick areas. we have a jackknifed tractor-trailer on the northeast extension northbound between quakertown and lehigh valley it's blocking the right lane and blocking the shoulder. we're not hearing of any injuries but expect blockages if they expect to remove the jackknifed trailer you may see restrictions there. this is montgomery fort washington, 309 from the pennsylvania turnpike, traffic is moving okay, driving slowly through the rain and slush out there. it's mostly wet on i-95 approaching cottman southbound

traffic having no problems, traffic is moving just fine at cottman and approaching the commodor barry bridge in delaware county. i drove in from the south certainly we had snow yesterday and the rain. you're crierving in slush. a good month of it -- driving in slush, you have a good amount of it on the local roads and rain on the main roads. >> let's check in with chad perdelli. >> he has an icy mix. what's going on, chad. >> reporter: i would say it's sleet at this point. a few minutes ago it was rain and now it's sleet. earlier overnight we had snow we got between 2 and 3 inches, a very, very wet snow. if they will have no school in allentown, or delayed school this is perfect snowman material, perfect for snowball

fights. this is airport road. the road is slushy at this point. slush is good, some of the tires can get traction. with the rain expected later on, penndot may not take all the snow off and go to blacktop because the rain could freeze over. they like to keep the snow on the ground and with the brine they let the snow turn into slush. he said the line where it got nasty was quakertown, before that it was all rain rain, there was plenty of traction. watching for the vehicles on airport road, it's touch and go, they are not moving along nicely, they are not sliding off the road. if you're driving in the lehigh valley they have the sleet going on right now it may take a little bit longer as drivers

toward king of prussia it was heavy rain. take it slow, the heavy rains are coming down. the visibility was a little bit poor. you can see here this is where you see snow, this is where you see some of the slush, this is on the untreated areas on the sidewalks you're seeing it in parking lot that's what you're seeing here. you heard how chad said penndot likes to have the fluffy conditions with the salt on the roads, they like to ray void having the blacktop. one thing you have to watch out for the temperatures that drop in the areas the roads that are bare will be slick. we caught up with people who come out who wanted to take advantage of the snow to make money, some of them might be disappointed. >> a lot of slush not too bad. >> reporter: what's the difference between major roads

susquehanna avenue. the girl fell 12 feet. she was taken to hanheman hospital in stable condition. the incident is under investigation. developing this morning a northeast philadelphia man is under arrest charged with killing a social worker who was waiting for a bus. the suspect not only new the victim, he was her could -- co-worker. kenneth moten has the story. >> reporter: one woman who dedicated her life to charity was executed at the northeast philadelphia backup. the man who killed her spoke "action news." john paul jordon's mother was at jefferson street gospel music playing on her headphones. surveillance video captured the man in disguise who walked up and shot the women in the head. the man is 36-year-old ran dove

sanders. the nonprofit has a contract with the department of human services. sources say the victim suspected sanders stole money from the program and she was going to meet with dhs to turn him in. >> the fact that this guy's main goal was take. >> reporter: saturday sanders was picked up at his northeast philadelphia home where police found three guns. the man told us weeks ago he was close with his supervisor. >> tuesday she celebrated her and varies for married. this is disturbing. >> reporter: crime scenes were back looking for evidence. while jones' son continues to ask why. to find out that's the reason,

go in this area the better chance you have of running into trouble with ices on the sidewalks and ice on the streets. although we're in the immediate region of changing over to slush. up around green lane and north of doylestown and quakertown and fleetwood we have the changeover to freezing rain and sleet mixing with snow, rain trying to inch its way up in here, that would be an area where you would have slow going and freezing rain and icy patches sidewalks. in allentown easton and bethlehem we're looking at snow mixing in, as well. as we take the wide view down south, bands of rain coming in highlighted in yellow. as we look outside, we have wet conditions in and around the immediate region. there we're trying to see penns landing, we have rain falling fairly steadily here, a little bit hard to see the ben franklin bridge in the distance. 34 degrees is the current temperature.

we're above the freezing mark just a bit not all the ice that form over the last several hours has melted, you have to be careful. winds in from the south at 8. that's warm air from the south continuing to push in from the north. 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. the rain may overtake allentown, as well. although we'll have iciness involved there. by noon we may see this dieing down and showers left, maybe a snow shower, as we go from 4:00 a.m. up to noon, you can see we stay mild up in allentown there could melting very quickly this afternoon we're back to the freezing mark by 4:00, back in the 20s in philadelphia by 7:00, on down from there. i have a concern of refreeze in the afternoon and evening. by 5:00 p.m. close to the freezing mark. so temperatures do plunge, so

roads. >> reporter: yeah we're seeing a lot of slush in the region. this is the montgomery county/bucks county line border here, stump road at county line road. it's raining out here, you can some kind of tell under the streetlights. be prepared to drive through the slush as you head out. we've got a jackknifed tractor-trailer in the area where it's icy. this is an area where you're getting sleet, northeast extension northbound, quakertown, this jackknifed tractor-trailer blocking the right lane and blocking the shoulder. no injuries reported, hopefully they will be able to take the tractor-trailer out of there but expect icy conditions in this region, as well. you heard chad perdelli saying once you get to the quakertown area it's slippery as you go up north. this is the schuylkill expressway at montgomery drive.

it's mostly wet. the penndot crew on the ramp. i saw crews on the schuylkill driving in. the lower speeds on the interstate highway, 45 miles per hour. reinforce the idea you have to slow it down. this is a look at the boulevard, but in new jersey it's slushy out there in particular we got the snow and the rain so you're traveling through that, we're seeing speed restrictions on the ton pike and the atlantic city expressway at 35 miles per hour. let's look at storm tracker 6 live double scan, most of the area we're dealing with rain at this point. you saw the change over. it's kind of a mix in honeybrook, and reading. route 100 you're getting rain, up north you're getting ice quakertown and the northeast extension. we have icy conditions in allentown. be careful as you head out and give yourself extra time and

on the sidewalk. we're looking at snow, later on today we could have a plunge in temperatures. in fact we're warming the kids with not as much here with the umbrella. they might want extra gear to throw on, temperatures are dropping this afternoon. 38 degrees by 9:00 a.m. 42 by 3:00 p.m. that's dropping down from a high of 45 around 2:00 p.m. by 6:00 p.m. we're all the way back to 28. anything that hasn't dried out could actually refreeze. a quick check at the airport no major delays at the airport but a lot of spots looking at precipitation this morning. we'll be right back.
