crashes on area roads. >> they are a quick go to for hungry told users but the kid-friendly snacks could be doing more harm than good. >> the big story on "action news," the wintry mix across the region. >> the further to the north the more snow, that caused trouble on area roads. >> that's is for sure, tractor-trailer jackknifed along the northeast extension of the pennsylvania turnpike. happened in the northbound lanes between the quakertown and lehigh valley interchangeses in upper milford township. the crash called major traffic tie ups for several hours. snowy conditions caused a crash of this philadelphia police cruiser yourself this morning. this is the scene on byberry near academy. the officer lost control and hit a slick pavement and hit parked

cars and a fence. nobody was hurt. sidewalks were covered in a slushy mix of melted snow and rain puddles. if walkways were under treated they looked like this. >> snow fell and then several hours of rain. pokes heading into work on the benjamin franklin parkway needed umbrellas and sturdy shoes. >> david murphy is live at the "action news" big board with storm tracker 6 live double scan david. >> reporter: rick williams, we have rain falling in some of the suburbs and southern new jersey. we're seeing a change back to sleet, and then a little bit of snow occasionally showing up on radar. as we look at the wide view there's additional snowrps trying to pop up -- snow showers trying to pop up out here by

pittsburgh and areas north of philadelphia. as cool air comes in from the north arena west, some of this precipitation will have the tendency to changeover to snow showers and we expect a small accumulation at the tail end of this later in the afternoon and evening. a storm warning has been extended in northern montco and reading and the poconos. there's an advisory in southern bucks and montgomery counties because there could be the redevelopment of icy roads on account of the new precipitation coming in and the drop in temperatures. in terms of what happened in the overnight hours, 9:30 we had rain in wilmington with a little bit of ice mixing in. snow was beginning to fall in the northern and western suburbs. by 1:00 a.m. the rain had settled past wilmington and pushing into philadelphia. at 4:00 a.m. this morning, the rain was pushing past allentown although it took a while for it

to start to melt all the snow that had piled up on roads. snow was not that much in the areas closer to i-95. philadelphia and hockessin under a inch. west chester under an inch. as you went up north through the region that's where you had the more impressive amounts almost 2 in lower macungie and ewing and mercer county. havertown, 3. nars -- nazareth north of 22. 6.5. in allentown the temperature has dipped below 30 degrees. this will be the pattern with the cold air coming in this afternoon you can the temperatures will be driving them down and we could have a refreeze of the moisture on roads right now. i'll talk more about that and show you future tracker 6 looking at how the temperatures will drop later this evening when i come back with the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast.

"action news" spoke with ran dove sanders in the day following jones' murder. he spoke about how much she will be missed, but now authorities say it was sanders who was the man in the video at 12th and jefferson, he stalked and shot her in the head as she stood at the bus stop. investigators say he had a motive for the murder. >> he was stealing from the nonprofit, tim jones found about that, on the morning of the murder she was going to report him to dhs which funds the

nonprofit organization. >> we're continuing to follow the story and we'll have more on how police tracked down their man in a life report in the next half-hour. >> a 4-year-old girl is in the hospital after falling out of a second-story window in north philadelphia. it happened after 12:30 a.m. on susquehanna avenue. the authorities say one of the girls parents was sleeping and another was downstairs when they got a knock on the door telling at home their child fell out of the window. she is expected to be okay. fire broke out at this camden dry clearance. firefighters around in camden after 6:30. they put out the flames before they could spread. the calls is under investigation. nobody was hurt. >> time to talk super bowl, the new england patriots won super bowl xlix by doing something no team has ever done.

northern and western suburbs where we are changing to blue and white and that's changing to sleet. as colder air rushes in north and west there's a chance the tail end precipitation changes over to snow. there's a concern if that happens that could put down additional accumulation over the next several hours and create some new rounds ever slick spots, now the other issue we have even in places where it's raining, once we get the rain out of here, the roads are wet. dropping temperatures this afternoon could cause a refreeze. i'll talk about in a second. let's get you outside, we have the action cam down along the boardwalk in atlantic city. everybody is commenting how low the cloud cover got today. it was feeling gray and ominous and wet and chilly, too. 39 degrees in philadelphia, the winds, north/northwest at 9 miles per hour. the cool air will be coming down in the northern and western suburbs first you'll see the numbers tumble from northwest to

the southeast later in the day and threerchg. this evening. 39 in philadelphia, 35 in wilmington. allentown has dipped to 28 degrees. most of the rain will slide east at 3:00 p.m. even at 3:00 p.m. another round of snow showers and colder air comes in from the northwest. if you get caught in a snow shower it will be because the air is rushing in, the colder air, you could be seeing the freezing-up. i'll show you where temperatures are the right now we have numbers close to freezing in allentown. by the time we get to 4:00 p.m. we'll be fluctuating in the north and west. i would be careful as soon as 4 or 5:00 p.m. with the icing. that's without the snow showers that might pop through. 6:00 p.m. we have a chance of getting down into the mid to upper 20s, even in

philadelphia. so the bottom line is, as you get out there in the afternoon and early evening you want to slow it down, some of that moisture left over on roads and sidewalks could refreeze. snow has changed to rain in allentown. you might get a refreeze this afternoon. that is possible around 4:00 p.m. and before then in the lehigh valley. 48 rainy conditions is what you're looking at at the shore. in philadelphia we're going for a high of 42 with rain ending in the afternoon maybe a snow shower mixed in. the winds gusting northwest at 40 miles per hour bringing in the cooler air. today's high, 42 we'll hit that over the next hour or so. the temperatures will start to tumble again anything that opportunity dry out could refreeze on road surface also. be careful of the possible freeze up later today and tonight. much colder tomorrow, 30, sun. wednesday not as colder, 43 degrees. thursday, colder again that wednesday into thursday period
