ut let's start with meteorologist cecily tynan at the "action news" big board. >> hi, monica and rick. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing that the storm system has moved out. we still have some lingering snow showers especially across burlington county right now but the problem isn't what's falling if the sky. the problem is the falling temperatures. all brought in by these very strong wind gusts. wind gusts in philadelphia currently 41 miles per hour. winds are whipping 41 in reading, 39 miles an hour wind gusts in allentown, 39 in wilmington and with the winds out of the northwest this will be pulling down some very cold air. so the national weather service has posted a winter weather advisory until midnight for the potential for flash freeze. what this means is that any roads that are wet untreated or that aren't blown dry the slush will be freezing very quickly as temperatures really nose dive. right now philadelphia 36 degrees, we're above freezing. wilmington dropped down to 33 but you'll notice allentown red andying and lancaster

the good news, the rain has moved out. the wind has really picked up and traffic as you can see is moving along. all that has helped to dry out the pavement on local roadways. still, there are some wet spots here and there. so penndot trucks are on the move putting down salt in those areas and trying to prevent any potential refreeze. the storm moved in and out and left standing water behind sonny some on roads some on sidewalks. as the temperature dropped that water could refreeze causing problems for anyone out and about this evening. penndot trucks made the rounds throughout the afternoon trying to hit any areas on the roads still wet. >> you're not going to salt the whole highway 'cause there's no snow or icy conditions right now but we just gonna' make sure that there's no wet areas left, any area that is wet we're going salt it. >> reporter: with rush hour, penndot will pull its salt trucks offer the roads. the traffic actually helps to dry the pavement. through the night they'll hit any problem spots that arise

few lingering snow showers. burlington county into ocean county now you can see this batch of some snow showers working just to the south of route 72 chatsworth. it's heading towards the garden state parkway. this is the same area that got some of the back end snow between 3 o'clock and 4 o'clock this afternoon as the storm system was pulling out and the cold air was catching up to the moisture. so adam posted this on my facebook page from toms river and you can see the snow really coating the trees falling down pretty heavily this afternoon and now the problem is the falling temperatures with the winds. the winds are howling gusting to 41 miles an hour out of the northwest and philadelphia and reading, 38 in allentown 43 miles an hour wind gusts in the poconos and 37 miles an hour wind gusts in millville and what these winds are doing is pulling down some very cold air. the winds will be with us right through the evening hours. so, the national weather service has posted a wind advisory for the southern half of our viewing area until midnight for wind gusts up to

45 miles per hour. the good news is about the winds the winds will be drying off a lot of roads. the problem with the wind, though, is that it's making it feel very cold and it is creating those wind chill factors. feels like 23 degrees in philadelphia, 19 in wilmington, 12 in reading. the wind chill in allentown is four and the wind chill in the poconos 2 degrees below zero and it's going to be a cold night and a very cold day tomorrow. so, satellite6 along with action radar showing that low pressure that brought us the rain and the snow, little less than an inch of snow in philadelphia, up to 8-inchs in parts of northern northampton county. that's moving away from us. now we have high pressure that's right over saint louis. so, this is what's creating that wind tunnel effect out of the northwest. that high pressure, though, will be building over us tomorrow and that will bring us a lot of sunshine but it will be brutally cold. so, future tracker showing the wind chill as we head through the overnight hours early tomorrow morning at 6:30 generally in the single digits. winds will be easing in the afternoon but afternoon highs

for the rush hour but about 40 of them will be available again through the night to treat any icy spots that develop. now, let's go to the "action news" big board. meteorologist adam joseph has an idea on what's ahead tonight. hi adam. >> yeah, monica, if you have the sidewalks driveways and walkways with that slush and standing water that has the best chance of turning quickly into that flash freeze of solid ice. the main roads like the schuylkill, the expressways they're fairing pretty well. they've dried out because the cars are constantly traveling on them and we have those winds helping them to dry out and they've been heavily salted. really it's where you see the slush, that's where we have the concern. 36 in philadelphia right now 23 new york city, two below in burlington but you factor in the wind and you can see that storm right there deepening just to the east of boston. we have those winds funneling in around that low and that is dropping wind chills to nine in new york city, 23 philadelphia, 18 below in syracuse, 22 below in burlington so this storm means business with its cold air that is flooding in as it is
5:32 pm
strengthening and departing. so that flash freeze we're expecting a 10-degree drop in temperature in a matter of a couple hours. again it's untreated surfaces with the slush and the standing water that would freeze over, especially the driveways and the sidewalks. if it looks wet to you as you're driving, just assume that it is icy and take extreme caution this evening and overnight. and by tomorrow morning we're going to be looking at wind chills in philadelphia zero to five north and west, between zero and five below zero but this arctic air doesn't last long. we'll talk about a warmup and another chance for snow before another arctic outbreak for the end of the week coming up in that full accuweather 7-day forecast. rick. >> all right adam we'll check back in later. thank you. while the last winter storm, the latest one steered clear of the tri-state area this time it did hammer the midwest and new england with tons of snow. chicago got more than 19-inches of snow in about a day. the fifth largest blizzard to ever hit the city. cars were buried drivers were
