o the freezing mark tomorrow and that raises the prospect of treacherous roads and sidewalks or even are own drive way. "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist is along the schuylkill expressway but first let's go to meteorologist cecily tynan and cecily is live at the "action news" big board. >> any slush will be freezing solid tonight. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing us the low pressure that brought us the snow and rain is off the coast of cape cod. it's moving away from us. we have high pressure building in but the combination of those two really bringing the winds out of the northwest. whipping winds, you can hear the winds howling. we have wind gusts right now 46 miles per hour in philadelphia and allentown wind gusts of 38 miles per hour millville 39 and reading the current wind gusts 37 miles per hour. and those winds are pulling down some very cold air. so the national weather service has issued a winter weather advisory until midnight tonight. not for anything falling from the sky but the fact that those plunging temperatures could cause a flash freeze on

a lost surfaces. what this means is that anything that's wet that's untreated will be freezing solid very quickly. the temperature has already dropped below freezing in philadelphia and wilmington. allentown is down to 20, reading 23. trenton 25 and the poconos currently 9 degrees. and future tracker showing by 9 o'clock tonight already down to 20 in philadelphia, down into the teens in a lot of the suburbs and tomorrow temperatures likely will not even hit 30 degrees. so, this is what to expect tonight. temperatures dropping down into the teens by midnight. so again any untreated surfaces that are not blown dry from the winds will be freezing solid. a lot of black ice. do be careful not only driving but the driveways the sidewalks if you're walking and the secondary roads i think they will be the major problem with this icing. i'll have more details and track some snow on the way in the accuweather forecast. jim. >> thank you cecily. let's switch live to "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist along the schuylkill expressway.

sarah there is obvious concerns about roads both large and small becoming dangerously slick. >> reporter: and jim, we are getting some reports now of icy conditions on some area roads and there's especially concern as cecily said on areas that have gone untreated, on sidewalks, on driveways and on some side streets. the major highways like the schuylkill expressway and many main roads are dry now thanks to rain moving out the wind is really picked up and traffic is moving along. still, penndot will be monitoring conditions through the night and treating problems as they arise. >> any area that is a little wet everybody has to be careful. >> reporter: the rain is gone but watery mains behind and it's puddles and ponding on sidewalks and streets that could refreeze as the temperature takes a dip in the hours ahead. penndot spent the afternoon hitting those wet areas here and there with some salt. >> we have 150 trucks out until 8:00 p.m. they're monitoring the roads.

they're making sure that the roads are dry and passable and any wet spots they find, they're going to put salt on it, spread salt over it to make sure it's not going to refreeze. >> reporter: during the busy evening rush, the penndot trucks are coming off the roads. heavy traffic helps dry the pavement even more. a few dozen trucks will monitor the five county region in the evening and overnight hours and target any problems as temperatures tumble. motorists said they'll take into consideration the possibility that any wet spots might actually be ice. >> it is what it is. you just have to drive slower, be cautious. >> reporter: and i have been in touch with matt pelman and he did tell me a short time ago that there are some reports of icy conditions in areas like up in bucks county and be sure to watch your step as you're out and about tonight. there could be icy patches on those sidewalks. one final note, bundle up. man, it got cold out here tonight. live on the schuylkill

expressway i'm sarah bloomquist, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you sarah. as the temperatures drop, we urge you to use 6abc.com/weather as an important resource. there we have both the hourly and seven-day forecasts. you can be prepared no matter how cold it gets. prosecutors today filed federal charges against former pennsylvania treasurer rob mccord. according to court papers, mccord will plead got two counts of extortion in connection with his dealings with a law firm and a property management firm. mccord resigned last week and admitted that he told potential donors that he could make it difficult for them to do business with the state if they didn't give him money. the 55-year-old apologized in a video statement released on friday. the suspect in the murder of 56-year-old social worker kim jones, almost three weeks ago has been arraigned on charges of murder. odom is live at philadelphia police headquarters with that story. vernon. >> reporter: jim, for nearly three weeks it was a baffling whodunit but tonight philadelphia police say they have their man and a full confession. >> i was fortunate enough to be invited to weddings when she was married, she was incredibly happy so this is -- it's just disturbing. >> reporter: this is randolph sanders talking exclusively to "action news" the day after the murder of his social work supervisor kim jones who was shot and killed january 13th near her north philadelphia home as she waited for a bus to go to work. weeks later the 36-year-old sanders is charged with her murder. >> he killed her because he was stealing. she found out about it and he knew she was going to turn him in the next day. >> reporter: police say sanders killed jones because she was going to expose his alleged theft of some $40 from the nonprofit agency where they worked. police say it was sanders seen here sneaking up on jones at the 12th and jefferson bus

falling, 4 o'clock we hit a high of 41 degrees. now we've dropped to 31 degrees, already 10 degrees. by 9 o'clock, philadelphia will be down to 21 and by 6 o'clock tomorrow morning 16 degrees. that's a 25-degree drop in a matter of 14 hours. and it's going to feel a lot colder than that tomorrow morning. when you factor in the winds the lowest wind chills, the i-95 corridor, south jersey and delaware, wind chills will the single digits and in our northwest suburbs, wind chills will be below zero tomorrow morning so you definitely do want to bundle up. right now the problem is the possibility of the icy roads. anything not blown dry on untreated surfaces that slush will be freezing solid tonight. philadelphia 31 degrees. allentown 19. wilmington 31. reading already down to 23 degrees and trenton currently 25 degrees. and then you factor in the winds. the current wind chill 17 in philadelphia. feels like 11 in trenton, 21 in millville. feels like four in allentown. and it feels like 7 degrees in reading.

so, satellite6 along with action radar showing that moisture again with the storm system now out of here. high pressure is building in. we're getting that wind tunnel effect but that high pressure will build over us tomorrow. that will bring us a lot of sunshine but it stays cold. we don't even hit freezing tomorrow. 28 degrees. the winds will relax in the afternoon. but still we will have a wind chill around 20 degrees so you definitely do want to bundle up. on wednesday ahead of a cold front we get a surge of winds out of the south and it's actually on the mild side. 46 degrees the high on wednesday. but that cold front will bring us a round of snow on thursday morning and then kick up the winds and then bring us a very cold end to the work week. so the call from accuweather for tonight overnight low eight in the suburbs, 16 for center city. so, again, we'll be getting that flash freeze on untreated surfaces. be careful. anything that looks wet will be icy and then the wind chill tomorrow morning down to 5 degrees below zero to 5 degrees above zero. definitely bundle up. the exclusive accuweather
