good afternoon, in the news this noon, more than a dozen people survive a deadly plane crash caught on camera, the pilot's final words before the flight went down. a police officer is rundown during a traffic stop his condition after the violent incident in trenton. but first apartment inferno that left one dead and dramatic rescues in montgomery county. >> firefighter his to use ladders to save the residents in norristown last night. annie mccormick joins us live on the scene. >> reporter: well rick and sara, authorities have not released the name of the resident who did die in this fire. there were others injured including a firefighter but they suffered minor injuries and

are okay. it's still an active scene here and the montgomery county district attorneys office continues to investigate. >> flames tore through the apartments just before 1:00 a.m. and in a few hours it hit four alarms and multiple companies assisted norristown firefighters. >> there were rescues done inside with firefighters and outside with aerial devices, crews had their hands full when they got here. >> one resident made it to the hospital but later died. two others were hurt including a firefighter. buildings on the block were evacuated. >> they were banging on the door and they said get out now. >> fire officials believe it began in the basement possibly after something went down the

trash shoot the sprinklers and alarm system activated but that was not enough. >> i lost everything. >> pamela davis lived in 105 and is getting help from the red cross at their temporary shelter at the high school. >> my neighbor went in off the fire escape, and went in the opposite direction. he came and got me. >> you are thankful right now yes, we are best buds since. >> that is one way to make a friend for life, those are the stories about people that are rescued. it could take two days or more to figure out an exact cause this morning there were 30 people and they were assisting at least 19 and many remain at norristown high school reporting live in norristown, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. icy conditions force police

to shut down part of lincoln drive this morning. chopper 6 hd was overhead after one car slid off the road into a tree off gypsy lane, it stopped just short of the water they closed down lincoln drive in the area as a precaution. david murphy is at the big board with more of the freezing conditions that caused problems this morning and the slight warm-up we are experiencing now. >> it felt good but no surprise there was ice out there. anything that was remotely wet was freezing in these area, 24 in wilmington and 9 degrees in allentown and things have improved and it's partly because of that southerly wind. any time you can get winds out of the south especially in the winter when it's cold, we get a decent wind, 15 miles per hour in wildwood and 13 miles per hour in philadelphia. 41 degrees right now in philadelphia and of course it's

only the noon hour and we have more to add to that before we are done. we'll get into allentown in the 30s but even there it's an improvement over where we are right now. philadelphia high of 46 degrees, isn't it nice to report a high several degrees above average we have not done that much recently. 32 degrees is the overnight low and that is also above average, but don't be fooled we'll see that number continue to plummet tomorrow and colder air is on the way in in fact that is the story for the rest of the work week any way we are going to continue with winds turning out of the northwest and an area of high pressure building in cool air in the region. and some of these snow showers will make it into the northern suburbs and perhaps drop down into philadelphia. we'll talk about potential snow and rick more interesting weather stories coming up for the second half of the weekend.

>> thank you david. >> a police officer was hurt when it spun out on icy roads on his way to a house fire in delaware county the fire erupts on the 500 block of washington avenue in media at 9:00 a.m., a woman and her adult son were able to escape unharmed but the family escaped to a neighbor's house and the upper providence police officer was on route to the fire when he hit an icy patch and the officer was take and to the hospital with back pain. a trenton police detective was nearly run over during a traffic stop. it happened on chestnut avenue this morning, the detective and north officer approached a car in the middle of the excrete and then the driver jeremiah sanchez allegedly put the car in gear and drove into one of men. the detective opened fire when the car sped away and later

crashed into parked cars. more coming up on this story in a live report at 12:30. people are still in the hospital following the train accident that killed six people in a new york suburb it shows the burned out car still on the track this morning, hundreds of drivers scrambled to escape the smokey mess, the train slammed into an suv that was stopped in its path, lids beth herr is live at the scene. >> reporter: good afternoon sara, just within the hour investigators arrived on the scene and are right now on the train getting a first look at the wreckage the scene so horrific, most of the bodies were burned beyond recognition. >> tragedy on the tracks. >> this is the worst tragedy i have seen. >> the screaming and yelling it was total panic.

detectives are searching all parks in the area as a precaution. one family is recovering after a robber chased them with a chainsaw in a gas station in oklahoma. the victim were in the parking lot, just moments after they stopped for gas, michael pierce stopped to get money with two kids in the backseat. police say we kicked in the back door of a house across the street and the reads called 911 and pierce was arrested nearby. the 911 dispatcher is credited with saving a toddler's life by guiding his grandmother and mother through c.p.r. >> my baby my baby! he is not breathing.

the action cam is out earlier, our veteran photographer, i love this, this is the case of the photographer thinking about what the story is and finding a picture showing it to you. we are above freezing and it's icicles are melting, we are above freezing so melting going on. winds southwest at 16 miles per hour. with the exception of the lehigh valley everybody is above freezing, lancaster and reading not a lot of melting going on but the numbers will likely climb 5 to 6 degrees and add another 5 to that 41 in philadelphia. cloud cover earlier and there are more holes to the clouds out to the west when are looking at a clouds and sun mix the rest of the way today. that is what we call it in allentown and you are cooler up north with the 57 degrees, milder, and you'll need a coat on the boards and clouds and sun

and not as cold as the last several days in philadelphia, 46 degrees and clouds and sun and breezy with winds running southwest at 8 miles per hour. it's key to the high of 46 we are drawing in the milder air, overnight the low is not all that bad. we go down to 32 degrees and more clouds and the possibility in the overnight hours particularly in philadelphia of a snow shower developing, and then we get into the evening commute everything is looking a-okay as well. if you are home earlier at 4:00, you step out of the car at 40 degrees and by 7:00 it starts to get cooler but still well above freezing, there is that chance of a snow shower and the future tracker 6 model shows us by 6:30 in the morning it's pushing down to the poconos, this particular model run doesn't want to do too much past allentown and reading and the reaches of bucks and

montgomery county, and then melts it away and if you look at an array of models some are holding on to the idea of a coating of snow and the key is it could be coming as the morning rush hour is coming if you get caught in the rush hour you want to slow it down. if you look at the models up north, likely up in allentown with an inch to half inch, mainly falling from the morning rush hour and past us to the shore later in the morning 46 degrees tomorrow and snow showers in the morning and then they are done. the temperature crashes from 34 to 13 for an overnight low, friday is brisk and cold and a high of 29 not as harsh on friday and 32 degrees and a break on saturday and sunday could be messy could be more rain than snow during the day period on sunday but i would expect somewhat of a mix on sunday and now there could be more snow possible on monday.
