here. this accident happened just about a half an hour ago. this is carriage drive and malaga road once again in monroe township gloucester county. >> details are still sketchy but we know those two vehicles that you see collided head on. it trapped two people and we now understand the two of them are injured. we don't know how seriously but obviously firefighters, police and now ambulances are at the scene trying to extricate them and get them some medical help. we'll keep and eye on it. two injuries, very serious in a vehicle collision tonight. it is a developing story about the measles outbreak we're working on for you. "action news" learned just a short time ago that health officials in montgomery county are now investigating a suspected case of the measles in a 15-year-old boy. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman joins us now with more details. ali. >> reporter: and guys, we're still learning more of those details but we do know that the patient is at home isolating himself. tests have been sent to the state laboratory to determine if this is a true case of measles. now, we do not know if the

child has or has not been vaccinated. but that is the message going out to parents now. if you or your child has not been vaccinated, please do so. there are now more than a hundred cases of measles nationwide. five infants at a day-care center outside chicago have been diagnosed. a one-year-old in jersey city is said to have caught the measles and is recovered. the suspects case in montgomery county is said to have come in from a doctor so the patient likely had symptoms consistent with measles. now they're working to confirm it and pediatrician dr. diane westerberg from cooper university tase the course of action of sending that patient home is appropriate. >> if he's at home and not exposed to anyone who is at rick for measles then it's okay. the danger comes when kids or adults who are not vaccinated against measles come in contact with him. and then it's highly susceptible. >> reporter: and if you have questions about measles or about the vaccine

6:00. >> philadelphia police officers tried to pull someone over and ended up crashing their cruiser in northeast philadelphia earlier today. this was the scene along the 4700 block of large street just before noontime. the department says the officers spot add suspicious car and started to follow it and that's when they slammed into a white limo car and went airborne traveling over another vehicle. still not clear if the cruiser stopped at the stop sign there. the car that was being pulled over followed by police did in fact, pull over. chopper 6 hd was over the scene of a a vehicle fire on i night. late this afternoon. a pickup truck caught fire in the southbound lanes near the tacony palmyra bridge. it was on the shoulder of the interstate but officials closed the two right lanes to give rescue crews room to put the fire out and treat the male driver. he was taken to temple university hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. >> a woman from hamilton new jersey has now been charged way hit and 31 nearly killed a

man earlier this week. carmen rodriguez turned herself in to police today. she's accused of hitting 63-year-old don't knack brocak as he was crossing east state street in hamilton township last sunday night. he suffered several injuries and remains hospitalized. rodriguez is out on $8,500 bail. turning to the forecast, it's still cold tonight but good news, we've got a mild weekend ahead for you. meteorologist cecily tynan outside with the latest from accuweather. cecily warmer temperatures welcome for most people. >> exactly monica, especially when it's coming over the weekend. the timing just perfect and especially considering just how cold it felt this morning. the morning wind chill dropped down to 2 degrees in philadelphia and wilmington, four in millville, 1 degree below zero in trenton, nine below in allentown and the poconos the wind chill this morning dropped all the way down to 16 degrees below zero and despite the sunshine today, wind chills really not recovering all that much. it feels like 21 degrees in philadelphia right now. it feels like 16 in allentown

20 in trenton, 23 at the atlantic city airport and the wind chill currently is 20 degrees in reading. the good news is although our temperature is 31 degrees, if you look to the south and west temperatures are in the 50's. atlanta 52, saint louis 54, memphis 52 and our wind direction will be shifting out of the southwest as we head into the weekend and that will pull up that much warmer air. so it's a friday night. if you're out on the town it won't be nearly as brutally cold as last night. temperatures really slow to cool. by 7 o'clock 30 degrees, by 8 o'clock and 9 o'clock 29 and by 10 o'clock the temperature dropping down to 28 degrees. so what's ahead? it is going to be a mild weekend mainly dry. however, late sunday night and monday i'm tracking a system that is going to make a pretty miserable start to the work week. i'll talk more about what to expect where you live when i come inside for the accuweather forecast. monica. >> thanks, cecily. wintry weather does hit this season keep an eye on our storm tracker 6 radar on

6abc.com/weather. we have hourly and seven-day forecasts along with the latest call from our team of meteorologists right here on "action news." >> philadelphia police are investigating what could be an early morning robbery in the city's queen village section. just before 2:30 this morning two masked men armed with shot guns made their way into the irish times bar at second and bainbridge. a short time later they ran off. police say it's unclear if the suspects took anything with them. the principal at a southwest philadelphia elementary school talked with parents today to address their concerns after students were caught with crack cocaine in class. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live outside mitchell elementary with the latest tonight. chad imrick, the investigation is still ongoing. so far no charges but as you can imagine parents are still outraged that crack cocaine made its way into the school. as school got out of mitchell elementary the discovery of crack cocaine yesterday was still fresh in the minds of

parents. >> somebody could have really been hurt. you know luckily wasn't nobody really hurt. >> it's unfair that the children had to be subjected to this kind of measures of things that's happening in our schools right now. >> reporter: philadelphia police say a 13-year-old brought 16 bags of crack to the school. he allegedly gave the drugs to an eight-year-old in a school bathroom. after the eight-year-old showed his classmates one alerted teachers who contacted authorities. last night a search of the 13-year-old's bartram gardens apartment turned up nothing. the teen and his parents have denied any involvement with the drugs though the 13-year-old did test positive for marijuana at a local hospital. police are still conducting interviews and so far there have been no charges. >> something's got to happen with parenting, okay for a child to be able to come to school with a substance such as cocaine. >> made me worried as a dad but i think i talk to them enough where they got good judgment.

they would have stayed away from it. >> reporter: and again, the investigation still remains under way and more interviews are in the process. i'm live in southwest philadelphia, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> okay, chad, thank you. strong ticket sales have boosted the powerball jackpot to $380 million. there was no winner in wednesday night's drawing. now, if the jackpot is won tomorrow, it would rank as powerball's sixth largest prize on record. the cash value is $256 million and the jackpot could climb again before the numbers are drawn tomorrow night and 6abc is the only place to watch the powerball drawing. it will be live right here tomorrow night at 10:59 just before "action news" at 11 o'clock. only a couple days left to check out the latest and greatest in the world of automobiles. the philadelphia auto show runs through sunday at the pennsylvania convention center. the floor is opened until 10:00 tonight and tomorrow the show runs from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

out by jordan on friday. she's been identified as aide worker kayla jean mueller from arizona. the white house says it is deeply concerned but there's no evidence yet to support the claim. we will have a full report coming up in the next half hour of "action news." the black boxes on the trans asia flight that went down in taiwan may reveal a possible mistake in the cockpit. if you look closely at the footage of the crash you can see the left iny engine's propeller at a standstill. that's because the engine went idle 37 seconds into flight. early data shows the pilot then turned off the right engine and tried to restart it. officials say it's not clear why they shut it down because the plane could fly on one engine alone. there were 58 people on board. 35 were killed. 15 survived and eight people remain missing. two of the people killed in that collision between the metro north train and an suv were laid to rest today outside of new york city. friends and family attended

the funeral of the driver, 49-year-old ellen brody this morning. investigators say her suv was inside the railroad crossing gate for 30 seconds before the impact. one of the five rail passengers killed that day was also laid to rest. >> all right sharrie thank you. harvard university instituted a totally taliban on professors having sex with undergraduate students. the school said it had to strengthen language on the issue because it did not reflect its expectations on appropriate relationships between faculty members and students. the change was made after a formal review of its policy. >> in health check, you may have noticed many folks wearing red today. it is national wear red today. the american heart association's campaign aims to raise awareness about women and heart disease. one in three women dies from heart disease and stroke each year but many problems can be prevented by making healthier changes like eating more fruits and vegetables, exercising maintaining a healthy weight and working with a healthcare provider to

as part of today's jobs report the department said november's numbers were the best in 17 years. last month the u.s. added 257,000 jobs and the average hourly wage in january was up 12 cents. that's the most in six years by the way. unemployment was actually up a tenth of a point but analysts say that's good news because more than a million americans started look for, what again. a pair of local congressmen paid a bipartisan visit to the willow grove naval air station today in hopes of kickstarting a redevelopment project there. pennsylvania congressman brendan boyle and pat meehan toured the 900-acre base in horsham. the democrat and republican were hoping to get an update on the future of the facility. just recently the congressmen both fired off a letter to the secretary of the navy looking for answers as to why plans to reopen the facility have stalled. it sat vacant for four years. >> the new jersey hall of fame went mobile today. bringing some iconic garden

state memorabilia. the set outside the headquarters of new jersey manufacturers insurance company in ewing. insurance workers got an up close look at bruce springsteen's lyric journals and thomas edison's original lightbulbs. they were jumping for heart at one bucks county school. kids in feasterville held a jump rope for heart event this afternoon to raise money for the american heart association. the kids jumped rope and at 1.75 students did a team jump roping demonstration. last year this events raised $3,000. a fun way to help a worthy cause.

slacked off but still we have enough of a breeze to create a wind chill factor of 21 in philadelphia. feels like 20 in trenton and in reading and it feels like 16 degrees in allentown. the good news is, though, things will be changing as we head through the weekend. satellite6 along with action radar showing you can see the movement of the clouds out of the northwest. that's the movement of our air that brought us the chill today. however, this high pressure down to the south and once that high pressure shifts off shore, we will get a flow out of the southwest and that's a warmer flow of air so temperatures will really be warming up as we head through the weekend. even tonight it won't be nearly as cold as last night. lots of clouds overnight low 23 degrees in philadelphia, 19 in trenton, 13 in allentown 25 at the boardwalk in atlantic city and wilmington the overnight low 22 degrees. future tracker showing as we head through the day tomorrow, we see a few snow showers up to the forecast. i wouldn't be surprised if the poconos gets a couple snow showers in the morning and then as we head through the afternoon you can see the setup of snow up to the north

across new york state and then a stationary front will develop well up to the north and that means sunday should be dry here. that snow actually the best snow probably even north of boston. we get that flow out of the south and that will bring us warmer weather on sunday, lots of clouds. that front sags to the south on monday and that will bring us the third rainy monday in a row. if you are heading up to the poconos to do some skiing tomorrow t-it will be cloudy and calm with a few snow showers. temperatures not that bad for skiing 21 degrees in the morning. and 35 degrees by the afternoon. so, the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow much milder, 45 degrees, mix of clouds and sunshine. sunday it clouds up but look at this, happy birthday, rick, 50 degrees. >> oh, yeah. >> sunday night some light rain, perhaps a mix in our far northern suburbs and then monday is going to be kind of a miserable day. light rain on and off throughout the day. a mix generally north of the i80 corridor, 42 degrees. on tuesday 42.

>> ♪♪ >> "action news" continues with meteorologist adam joseph jaime apody, rick williams and monica malpass. >> hello again. here's what's happening on "action news" friday night. isis terrorists are claiming that a jordanian air strike has killed an american hostage. we're live with the very latest. also the firefighters union breaks its silence about claims that some of its philadelphia members had sex while on the job. and atlantic city police officers have a new weapon in their arsenal that could save lives with just minutes to spare. sharrie williams has that

story coming up. >> now to a developing story overseas. isis is claiming that american hostage kayla mueller was killed in an air strike carried out by jordan. the u.s. state department says it is deeply troubled by this report but officials stress that reports of mueller's death have not been confirmed. jordan has launched a campaign against the terror network following the murder of a jordanian pilot. abc's susan solny live with the latest. >> reporter: good afternoon monica. american officials are responding with caution because isis has been known to be misleading about the fate of its hostages. the terror group isis is claiming an american woman it had been holding hostage is dead killed isis claims when jordanian warplanes bombed an isis strong hold in northern syria where the hostage was being held n a statement on twitter the terror group identified the woman as 26-year-old american aide worker kayla mueller. it had been known that isis was still holding at least one

american hostage but this was the first time her identity was revealed. isis did not provide proof. and american officials said they were not able to confirm the claim. >> we do not at the present have any evidence to corroborate isis claims. but obviously we'll keep reviewing the information at hand. >> secretary kerry our team is putting every effort at finding americans held overseas. >> reporter: jordan was already partner in the fight against isis but it has ramped up its efforts after the militants killed a captured jordanian pilot. the gruesome images of the pilot being burned alive sparked widespread fury. several thousands marched through jordan in support of king abdullah's response. >> if no one puts the struggle against them and fights them,

who else will fight them? >> reporter: isis's statement today contained some discrepancies about where and when kayla mueller might have died. reporting live in washington susan saulny, channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you. world news tonight with david muir will have the latest on isis's claim that a jordanian air strike has killed an american hostage and you can watch that following "action news" after 6:00. >> today philadelphia fire union officials addressed the ongoing investigation into alleged sexual misconduct while on city property. "action news" reporter chad pradelli has the story. >> reporter: the firefighters union local 22 says the office of the inspector general has accused 13 members of sexual misconduct involving a female paramedic. four allegedly had sexual relations with were the young woman including one battalion chief. most of the alleged sex happened off duty and away from department facilities. >> the department has elected to charge one of our members

with having sexual relations within a firehouse. >> reporter: all of the sex was consentual and the other allegations involve sexual harassment. union head joe shuley says the inspector general filed provide a full report of the investigation and redacted all the names except for the seven members now facing discipline. >> there is no legitimate reason why they will not provide us with the whole report. we can't speculate as to what they're covering up or what they're hiding but as i said our perception is there must be something in the report they don't want us to see if they're not providing the whole report. >> reporter: he says the female paramedic who sources say is mentally troubled and suicidal was forced by department brass to file an employment complaint after word began to spread about possible misconduct. he says there's some indication that dates back to 2011. the mayor's office had no comment but fire commissioner derek sawyer tells "action news" it's a personnel matter that will go through the normal process. >> disciplinary process and we think that we have to be fair

to all those involved and go through the process in its entirety. then once we go through that process we can talk about what happened and what the corrective measures. >> reporter: the union expects the fire commissioner to hand out any sort of discipline within a month and those who are disciplined could appeal to the labor relations board, then take it to arbitration. in olde city, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> a delaware man lost his life in a crash in smyrna this morning. it happened at the intersection of duck creek road and route 113. authorities say 58-year-old was partially driving in the left-hand lane when he slammed into the back of a dump truck that was in the left-hand turn lane. he was rushed to the hospital but did not make it. the other driver was not hurt. and from our delaware news room tonight new castle county police arrest a man they believe is behind a package theft in forest glen. that theft was caught on camera and police say the man in the video is duncan smith. yesterday police found smith

near the scene of another reported package theft in amber field. he's being held tonight on $5,500 bail. >> well, beginning today, the atlantic city police department has a new tool in its arsenal and it is expected to save people who are on the brink of death. the officers are now carrying narcan. officers in the department were on hand today for a training session in how to properly use the life saving treatment. narcan is a medication used to reverse a drug overdose. the narcan has beeny has back needed tool with the spike of heroin cases in atlantic county. the prosecutors office is alerting the public to a particularly dangerous batch of heroin that may be responsible for as many as five overdoses. a medical trainer explained the symptoms officers will be looking for in order to use narcan. >> absence of breathing that we're looking for where their respiratory system depressed from heavy use of drugs and if

it's an open yes, i did type drug like a heroin or oxycodone or pills sometimes people take this should reverse the use of it. >> one more note on those bags of heroin that police are very concerned about. police say they are stamped with the phrase one stop in purple lettering. again, those particular bags have been linked to several overdoses. these atlantic city officers responding to these calls have first aid training and they are now equipped with narcan in hopes of saving lives. over to monica. >> all right, thanks sharrie. mercer county restaurant at the center of a hepatitis a scare was fined by the health department a month before a worker tested positive. authorities say a food inspector cited rosa's restaurant for hand washing violations last october while it was later in november when a worker was hospitalized with the disease. three other people who ate there contracted hepatitis a but officials cannot say that there was a direct link to the original case. authorities say conditions have improved since that

initial violation. drivers will not get as stiff of a punishment the first time they're convicted of drunk driving if new jersey legislators get their way. the state senate passed a bill that eases the penalties for first time offenders with blood alcohol levels between .08 and .1 percent. instead of losing their license for three months it would only be for 10 days. governor christie still has to sign it. patco is get be owing upgrades to make it easier for folks waiting on platform. the commuter line is installing monitors at stations to keep passengers updated on the train's schedules and weather conditions. the agency says the monitors are part of a series of overhauls that include track work and refurbished trains. they add that the lindenwold stop is likely the first station to get these new monitors. >> all right, one more time let's get a check of the highways and by ways for our friday night. >> back to matt pelman to see what's going on. hello matt. >> all about wearing the red on this national wear red today. we're not so much about the red brake lights we're seeing

here rick and monica on woodhaven road as you head eastbound towards 95. they're because of a crash by route 13 bristol pike. coming away from franklin mills, philadelphia mills just the left lane is squeezing by headed towards 95 causing everybody to hit the brakes. on the big picture we were looking for speeds in the 60's to celebrate rick's birthday today. >> whoa. >> unfortunately we're getting speeds in the teens instead. northbound side of 95 just 12 miles per hour in fact as you pass the betsy ross bridge. new traffic pattern coming tomorrow to 422 westbound side between 100 and stow. watch out for that. but on the eastbound side of 422 this afternoon we've had this crash by first avenue in upper merion. just a shoulder still getting by so you're seeing big delays as you come east of the saint gabriel's curve and head in towards route 202. still have that nasty crash in monroe township gloucester county closing malaga road. stay over on blue bell road to get around that blockage. on the mass transit front new schedules particulary kicking into effect on the septa buses and subways as well as the

>> nearly three dozen vehicles were caught up in this crash in upstate new york. it happened this morning at about 45 miles north of syracuse after a heavy band of lake effect snow moved over the area. crews had to detour traffic off of the interstate for hours following the accident.

no word at this hour if there were any serious injuries. transit officials in washington, d.c. say a brake problem is to blame for hazy conditions at one metro station. the smoke scare comes nearly a month after another metro train filled with smoke killing a woman and injuring dozens of others. metro officials say firefighters today will to stop commuters from entering the station at dupont circle for a period of time. the problematic train has been taken out of service. >> pope francis made a bold remark today about spanking children. he says it's okay under one condition. according to the pope, a father can "use a firm hand to discipline as long as the child is not demeaned." he made the comment during his weekly general audience which focused for the second week in a row on fatherhood. >> i once heard at a wedding a father say i sometimes have to hit my chilled a little but never in the face so as not to demean them. how nice he thought. he had a sense of dignity.

it was setting lower on the horizon and that, again, is the refraction of some of those longer wave lengths of light kind of bending off of the ice creating that glow, that ring around the sun so a beautiful shot there and if you ever see shots like this of any variety with weather please share them with me and then every now and then i'll share them with you on air. 29 degrees in trenton, 25 in allentown, 32 right now in wilmington, 31 for millville. 17 in the poconos. so, it is cold out there and then you factor in still a wind which now you can see is more out of the westerly direction. starting to turn out of the southwest in dover so we're starting to veer those winds out of the southerly direction. that will pump in the warmer air over the weekend but it's still feeling like the teens and low 20's area wide. clouds breaking up north of philadelphia. they're not thick clouds. there's hardly any moisture in them and that will be the generally trend for the weekend as a boundary will stall to our north so it's sun and clouds tomorrow, a milder afternoon with a southerly

wind at 45 degrees. this system will behave itself stay to the north and bring parts of northern and southern new england more heavy snowfall but for us we're 50 degrees just south of this front. low pressure develops along it. later on in the weekend so future tracker at 8 o'clock on monday morning, light rain showers will break out mixed showers offer to the north and in fact, what to expect here monday morning for the commute. a light mix far north and west. we're talking about northern bucks, montgomery, lehigh valley. maybe some sleet or freezing rain. only expecting minor issues right now as most of the area mostly light rain on monday with temperatures in the low 40's. as we look at the forecast for tonight, a lot of clouds out there but not as bitter as last night. 13 in the suburbs to around 23 degrees for center city and the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 45, much milder around here tomorrow with a blend of clouds and sun. and we say welcome back to the 50's here on sunday. we have two days in january where we were in the 50's.

suspected measles. they say the patient a 15-year-old boy, went to his doctor who suspected he has measles and reported it to montgomery county health authorities. a spokeswoman for the county says in a press release that the patient has been evaluated and testing has been conducted in order to determine if this is a true case of measles. they say specimens are being delivered to the state public health laboratory. now, they're not telling us where the boy is from or where he goes to school but they say he is self isolating at home under the guidance of the county health department. this until the lab results are completed. now, dr. diane westerberg from cooper university hospital says this about measles cases in general. >> as long as he's quarantined and only in contact with people who have had measles or the measles vaccination then everything should be fine. the problem comes when he's exposed to people who have not had the disease or who have not had the vaccination. it is
