case of position suspected measles. they say the patient a 15-year-old boy, went to his doctor who suspected he has measles and reported it to montgomery county health authorities. a spokeswoman for the county says in a press release that the patient has been evaluated and testing has been conducted in order to determine if this is a true case of measles. they say specimens are being delivered to the state public health laboratory. now, they're not telling us where the boy is from or where he goes to school but they say he is self isolating at home under the guidance of the county health department. this until the lab results are completed. now, dr. diane westerberg from cooper university hospital says this about measles cases in general. >> as long as he's quarantined and only in contact with people who have had measles or the measles vaccination then everything should be fine. the problem comes when he's exposed to people who have not had the disease or who have not had the vaccination. it is highly contagious.

today. john rawlins live in westtown township with the full story there. john. >> reporter: hi, mon cam i think this took a lot of people by surprise including the man's employers. the alleged crime took place almost seven years ago. the target, a well regarded teacher, author and basketball coach. teacher mark set her had nothing to say. the now 20 something woman told investigators three of the incidents were at the teach's home in east goshen township. the fourth at where the defendant grew up his parents' house in west brandywine township. he taught english at coatesville high school since 2007. students surprised by today's accusations saying the defendant was well liked. >> students loved him. he was always nice.

he was just a pleasant guy. >> reporter: besides teaching english a one time newspaper writer he's authored several books about pennsylvania high school basketball. he also helped coach basketball at west chester's east high school. at coatesville he taught a class in sports literature. >> i definitely love sports. that's why i took the class. that's something i'm interested in and he seemed interested in what he was teaching. he seemed like he really loved his job, loved teaching. >> reporter: students we talked to said they never heard a hint of scan dell about hostutler before today. they said they had no prior reports of any improper conduct by the defendant. jim, the alleged criminal incidents took place back in the year of 2008. apparently the accuser only came forward recently. the actual investigation began just three weeks ago. asked why the delay in coming forward we were told that the alleged victim was just now ready to come forward. live in westtown, john rawlins

channel6 "action news." >> all right, thank you, john. fortunately no one was seriously hurt when a police cruiser here was involved in a crash in northeast philadelphia. this the scene in the 4700 block of large street about noon. police say officers were trying to pull over a car when they slammed into a white limousine car and went airborne. it's unclear if the cruiser's lights were activated or if it had stopped at the stop sign there. the investigation is ongoing. a water main break caused serious problems in newark delaware today. the city is advising folks to boil their water tonight because of the risk for e. coli. experts are testing the water for contamination but that could take up to 48 hours. here's the problem. the 8-inch main on kirkwood highway broke this morning. crews closed the highway to make remayors. several area businesses had so to shut their doors today. residents in the kensington section of philadelphia had to deal with a slick situation this morning.

a water main break flooded the 1900 block of north howard street and it quickly turned to ice. hope and berk streets also had to be shut down. old man winter was very visible in the delaware river today. chunks of ice were floating along after temperatures dipped dramatically overnight. and today's highs did very thrill melt these big chunks, just another telltale sign that winter still around. how cold will the weekend be? let's go to meteorologist cecily tynan with the latest accuweather word at the big board. hi cecily. >> hi, monica. happy to say that the weekend will not be cold at all. i'm tracking a big warmup as we head through the weekend. it's going to feel a lot better than it felt this morning. the wind chill in philadelphia was 2 degrees this morning wilmington the same, trenton the wind chill 1 degree below zero. it was nine below in allentown and the poconos the morning wind chill 16 degrees below zero. the winds have diminished but temperatures today only rose up to 32 degrees in philadelphia. so, the current wind chill 21 degrees philadelphia, allentown 25 reading 18

instand alerts for any weather warning. you can check that out any time anywhere. delaware state police captured a suspect at a wilmington shopping center today. police say the man wanted for a robbery in pennsylvania was driving a stolen vehicle. they caught up with him at the brand mar shopping center on marsh road. a second suspect escaped. one person was treated for cuts to the face but it's unclear how that person was involved in the incident. a multi vehicle accident here caused quite a mess on i-95 in northeast philadelphia this morning. six cars collided in the northbound lanes about 10 o'clock and you can see one of the cars involved in the crash is wedged under an suv. the pileup closed a portion of the interstate between bridge street and cottman avenue for almost two hours. despite all the damage no one was hurt. delaware state police investigating an early morning crash that sent a dump truck driver to the hospital. troopers say the dump was in the upright position. that's when it hit are a bridge overpass on i-495 in

into at least 40 cars in toms river. detectives say they caught up with him after a gift card stolen from one of the vehicles was used at a store. he has allegedly -- diaz allegedly gave that card to his girlfriend who used it yesterday. police were notified and 18-year-old marisa huchak was arrested. he was captured on residential video breaking into unlocked cars. new jersey governor chris christie is in the hot seat for the third time in a week. first over comments he made about vaccinations. then for letting friends allegedly pay for his lavish trips. now there's word uncle sam is investigating why he dismissed some criminal cases. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic runs down the high profile politician's really bad week. >> reporter: the trip was supposed to be a chance for governor christie to buff up his foreign policy credentials and raise his stature at home. it did anything but that. after touring a pharmaceutical factory the governor told reporters parents in the u.s. should have a choice about vaccinating children.

with the measles scare here, there was a backlash and his office quickly clarified his remarks. after that governor christie canceled all press availabilities in england and snapped at one persistent reporter asking is there something you don't understand about no questions? while he was gone the new york times ran a front page article detailing the governor's lavish free trips provided by friends to jordan, israel and of course dallas. and we learned federal authorities have launched another investigation into his administration for allegedly dismissing criminal indictments against christie supporters. >> it's bone a very rough week, maybe even a disaster but it's not an insurmountable disaster. >> reporter: as he prepares a possible run for president the governor's poll numbers are plummeting both in early primary states and here in new jersey where some have had it with his traveling. >> that does nothing for new jersey. it's only for his pleasure and his family at least that's the way i feel about it. >> i think he had a horrible week, i really do. i don't know how this is going to affect him but it's not

looking good. >> i just think it's really great before he announces that he wants to run that everything's coming out so he can deal with it get it over with. i like him. >> it's a week the governor would surely like to forget. perhaps he's hoping the voters will, too. in trenton i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." >> the owners of a nightclub in the shuttered revel hotel casino in atlantic city want a court to allow them to stay opened even if the property is sold on monday. the casino has been closed since september and a bankruptcy sale is scheduled but the hq nightclub wants to stay opened and is asking a judge to let them. meantime utility company is threatening to cut off power to the entire building over unpaid bills. a judge is deciding whether the death of famed penn state joe paterno will prevent his estate from suing the ncaa. that suit has to do with how the university handled the jerry sandusky child sexual abuse scandal.

paterno's son want to pursue a breach of contract claim saying the ncaa violated paterno's rights through their investigations. paterno was dismissed as penn state's head coach in 2011 and he died the following year. it was a celebration today of a life well lived for world two veteran from delaware county. john kay little of linwood turned 96 today. mr. cahill's a true american hero. he served under general patton in the 14th armored tank division. in addition to his birthday cake there he was honored with a plaque for his service to our country. as for his secret to a long life he says no smoking but he says that policy got him in trouble in the army when his supervisor tried to make him pick up cigarette butts. here's what he told the commander. >> i don't pick them up y buy them, i don't use them. he said two weeks, two weeks of kp. >> for that honesty he got two weeks of kitchen duty but on the bright side he said the

>> ducis here with sports. chemo is back. good news. >> the end of april that was the last time kimmo timonen was in action. flyers defenseman is not yet ready to take part in a game but he's getting closer. jeff skversky has an update as timonen battles back from a career threatening medical condition. >> reporter: kimmo timonen is giving it a shot skating for the first time in eight months the flyers defenseman starts his come back attempt after being diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and right calf. today is the first step skaterring all by himself for 40 minutes with general manager ron hextall watching closely. >> it was kind of weird feeling this morning. it was kind of a little nervous. kind of weird but i was so excited looking forward to this morning and didn't really sleep. >> reporter: when can flyers

fans expect timonen to play in his first game? probably two to three weeks. he plans to skate on his own for the next 10 days. then he believes he needs four to five practices with the team to get into game shape. >> skating by yourself is different than skating with the team and actually somebody's coming after you so we still far away from that. >> we're lucky to get him back sooner than later. he's obviously a -- kimmo timonen has been around for a long time and it's going to be exciting. >> reporter: you cannot question the 39-year-old's commitment to the game and to his teammates in the locker room. while timonen has been told the risk is minimal he still is skating with chronic clots in his leg. >> this my last year, so i retire my skates like i said previous times so i feel when i leave on my own terms. >> reporter: timonen will get that shot. >> good to see. as for the rest of the flyers they'll visit the capitals on

sunday. last night they lost to the aisle i would lander its although ryan white did win this fight. the game went to a shootout. the flyers lost three-two. the sixers are in boston tonight to face the celtics. hard to believe these two teams faced each other's in the playoffs two years ago. michael carter-williams is out with a toe strain. phillies have interest in johan. gm ruben amaro pointed out there are many teams interested in macado. the envelope was not to let the fight from the super bowl go unchecked. the league handled out several fines. seahawks line backers bruce irving gets the most a $10,000 fine for starting the melee. he was also ejected from that game. three other players were fined a little more than $8,600

there tonight and i don't know if you noticed but we had a beautiful sunset. the accuweather highlight will show you first of all tonight with just enough cloud cover to really refract and reflect the long wave lengths of the light. gorgeous sunset. this was sent in by peter on my facebook page from williamstown, new jersey. a lot of people sending in pictures of the gorgeous sunset and a good thing about the sunset tonight too, it was at 5:26. so, our daylight hours are getting longer. and then future tracker showing sunday afternoon temperatures by 1:30 up around 50 degrees. so, we're going to from wind chills this morning below zero in parts of our viewing area to temperatures around 50 by sunday. a big change in our weather. right now, though, it's still cold. 30 degrees in philadelphia. it's 25 in allentown. 31 in millville. and wilmington. 27 in trenton and reading. 26 degrees. it's not all that windy but there's enough of a breeze to create a wind chill of 21 degrees in philadelphia.

feels like 18 in reading. feels like 23 in wilmington. so you definitely do want to bundle up tonight but as we head to the weekend you can peel off a few layers. satellite6 along with action radar showing you can see the flow of the clouds out of the northwest. our wind direction will change through the day tomorrow. the winds will be shifting out of the southwest underneath this stationary front. this will bring us much warmer air. 45 degrees with a mixture of clouds and sunshine. on sunday, this front is really the focus of some snow in northern new england but here we'll just get some cloud cover and the flow increases out of the south so we'll hit about 50 degrees in philadelphia. normal high for this time of the year will be 43 degrees on sunday. but then our luck runs out on monday. future tracker showing 8 o'clock monday morning our next system low pressure that will be riding along that front will bring us generally rain. you can see a little bit of a mix in the northern suburbs. the good news is though, we're coming off a weekend

with mild temperatures. so even though there could be a will it wintry mix in the far northwest suburbs should real be minor issues on the roads since the ground is still pretty warm. most of the areas this is going to be a light rain event with temperatures in the low 40's so kids do your homework on sunday night, will you not be having a snow day on monday. so, the call from accuweather for this friday night lots of clouds, temperatures not nearly as bitter as the past several nights. 13 degrees in the cooler suburbs, 23 degrees for center city. and the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, tomorrow much milder a high of 45 degrees. we'll see a mixture of clouds and sunshine. try to get outside and enjoy it, if you can. if you can't just go outside on sunday, temperatures back in the 50's. it's been about a month since we've been 50 degrees. again we'll see more clouds than sunshine but i still think we'll see peaks of sunshine especially south of philadelphia. heading into monday that low pressure brings us light rain, a mix in our far northern suburbs, likely north of the i80 corridor.

42 degrees the high and behind that system we have a cold front that moves through on tuesday. that will kick up the winds and bring back sunshine. 42 degrees. but then temperatures start dipping down as we head through the week. wednesday a mix of sun and clouds 39 degrees. on thursday, another arctic front will blast through. this will bring us a round of some snow showers kick up the winds in the afternoon 37 degrees and friday the bottom falls out where the temperature, the high is only 22 degrees, the low down to seven. looks like next weekend is going to be a lot colder than this weekend. enjoy this weekend while you can. >> thank you. fire cadets in delaware prove they're up for the challenge of their new jobs. the group ran to all six fire stations in wilmington this morning. that's a 10-mile trek and remember temperatures were in the teens. the cadets dropped for a set of push-ups at each stop. the run is an annual rite of passage for all of wilmington 's grads. world news tonight is next
