all. thanks for being here. i'm t.j. homes. i'm sara haines. the work week is beginning with extreme weather, a second wave of heavy rain hitting from california to washington. flash flooding mud slides and damaging winds possible. >> right now another big winter storm bearing down on the northeast. it's bringing once again ice and snow for a number of states. >> reporter: overnight a familiar scene, snow falling in boston and the city bracing for up to two more feet. >> we have never seen this type of snow here in the city of boston in the history of our city. >> boston is at the breaking point. the city has spent $18 million to remove the snow busting the budget and the snow is so deep parking is banned on many streets. >> we're running out of space. >> special machines to melt the snow being brought in. they can melt 350 tons of snow an hour. on the west coast, flooding

drenchingny vaf da and wind gusts up to 70 miles an hour in the forecast. storms are knocking down trees and power outages. the rain and snow made it difficult for rescue crews to locate hikers in trouble at nearly 9,000 feet. >> it was windy and visibility was very poor. >> fast moving force rest fires. gusty winds are shifting making it difficult for firefighters to control. >> the wind is at your face and difficult to stand. smoke is in your face. it hampers effort. >> at least 40 buildings have burned. and firefighters struggling in the rough terrain. these storms pummelling both coasts. we'll see what's in store for today. >> stephanie olmo has the monday outlook. good morning. stephanie. >> we are dealing with a major winter storm system right now impacting the north east region and expanding south into the

midatlantic area. steady snow across much of new york stay on this monday and the new england area. further south an icy mixed temperatures and below freezing. we have the icy conditions continuing across new york city extending far west along i-80. allentown including in this. the snow is continuing to fall through the day on tuesday. 12 to 18 inches expected by the time it's all said and done in the boston area. off to the west we continue to deal with some wet weather. the greatest threat is in northern california. back to you. >> thank you. the other major story is the growing military pressure on isis the group suffering heavy losses in weekend air strikes. >> the parents of american hostage hay lakayla mueller hoping she's still alive. >> reporter: jordan striking

back against isis in retall yax for the brutal burning of a jordanian pilot. losing 20% of it's capabilities and more than 7,000 of their fighters. >> it's unified the coalition. >> in an exclusive interview with abc's martha raddatz, john allen, the man in charge of the fight against isis said the response has been critical against the group he says is more for midable than al qaeda. >> i think we should take it seriously. >> isis has affected this section of the homeland. news came three days ago that kayla mueller, just 26 years old held hostage was allegedly killed in one of those jordanen attacks. her parents in seclusion clinging to hope their daughter is alive. >> the strain of not knowing where their daughter is at and whether or not she's alive is

presidential hopefuls picked by 60% with kentucky senator rand paul a few points behind. voters expressed some doubt about his position on immigration and education. chris christie ran a close fourth in the new hampshire poll speaking in iowa today. the polls find him not even close to that. many voter there is are beginning to know who he is. almost 1/4 don't like him. after a rough week about a bobbled answer on measles vaccinations. >> president obama meets with german chancellor angela merkel today at the white house talking about the growing crisis in ukraine ukraine. set to meet wednesday to discuss a peace plan. the conflict has left 5,300 people dead and 200 people killed in the last three weeks according to the un. the powerball jackpot is expected to top $450 million in
