good morning, america. double-trouble. both coasts blasted by powerful winter storms. snow and freezing rain falling again in the east. nearly a foot more in some areas. >> we have never seen this type of snow here in the city of boston. >> icy roads turning highways hazardous, and another storm slamming the west, flooding rain, powerful wind gusts and fears of mudslides this morning. our team tracking it all. >> the u.s. and its allies turning up the heat on isis. as the parents of that american aide worker held hostage making an emotional plea to the brutal terror group. speaking out, bruce jenner opening up this morning about his deadly car accident. cooperating with the police and what he's saying right now about

that's all coming up but let's get to the powerful winter weather. snow freezing rain dangerous roads in the east and possible mudslides in the west. our team is tracking it all. ginger starts us off. >> freezing rain. rain falling on the surfaces 32 degrees or below and sleet falling and getting snow here in new york city. wait until you see the mess. both coasts going with a storm right now and we're talking about the west in a bit. let's focus in on the danger this morning in the northeast. from long island back through parts of pennsylvania. that's all ice. i-80 i-95. getting slippery fast. you'll see a quarter inch of ice adding up. look at the snow to the north and already eight plus inches of fresh snow in boston a place saying mercy, help us. too much. we have got our rosh marciano again in boston.

rob. >> reporter: good morning. just another day in boston. forget about piling the snow up by the feet. they're piling it up by the story. three or four stories of it. and front loaders, no longer that. you got to bring in the big diggers to try to make room for more snow coming today overnight another winter storm making its way through the northeast. in massachusetts snow and wind creating treacherous driving conditions. this car completely rolled over on the side of the road. police and fire departments on the scene. no one hurt. in albany new york heavy snow making roads dangerous there leaving this suc stranded. similar scenes sunday slippery roads causing cars to fly off the road including this school bus. thankfully no students inside. in boston digging out from this season's record-breaking snow fall and trying to clear the way for up to another two feet. the city is running out of

places to put it all. >> we have never seen this type of snow here in the city of boston in the history of our city. >> reporter: so much snow in boston. they brought in giant melters. that can melt up to 350 tons of snow per hour. so far this winter boston the hardest hit big city of the east with more than five feet of snowfall. more than 178,000 plowed. the amount of salt used 56,000 tons and counting. the snow removal budget has been blown. kids out of school today and tomorrow. to make up for the snow days they're going to go into vacation days including spring. >> it is february. thank you. the storm making a mess as you can imagine. the morning commute throughout the northeast. the wintry mix of snow and ice adding up to dangerous driving conditions and abc is on the road in westchester, new york right now.

isis is meeting with jordan's king this morning while an american family waits. the parents of missing american aide worker kayla mueller try to remain optimistic this morning that their daughter is still alive despite claims by isis that kayla was killed in a jordanian air strike in a statement over the weekend, they made an emotional appeal to her captors saying you told us you treated kayla as your guest, as your guest, her safety and well-being remains your responsibility. meanwhile meanwhile, jordanian air strikes have greatly increased in recent days. in response to isis's brutal murder of the pilot. in a matter of hours 20 jordanian war planes dropping targets in syria. >> what effect has this had? >> i think it's galvanized the coalition. >> reporter: the united emerist

is sending a squadron of fighters in a show of unity. the u.s. has conducted more than 80% of the air strikes against isis but with additional help from arab countries the fight may be at a tipping point. >> do you believe the murder of lieutenant kasasbeh back-fired? >> absolutely it did. >> reporter: isis continues to hold territory in both iraq and sear are. >> isil is at an entirely different level than al qaeda was. >> reporter: as for the young american hostage, general allen could say very little but it is an intense focus of u.s. effort. george. >> let's get more from john carl at the white house. the president expected to come to congress to get a new authorization for using that force in the battle. >> reporter: george this will be a fight in congress. although the president believes he already has the authority for the bombing that we have seen in

iraq and syria. he wants to see a big bipartisan vote in congress to show unity in america for this fight. but george i have to tell you he's going to be up against democrats reluctant to authorize an opening venture in the middle east and the republicans saying he's not been aggressive enough. >> and also some news on that over the weekend. wide open race on the republican side. kind of a mixed bag for jeb bush. >> this is in new hampshire. jeb bush is on top of this poll of new hampshire republican voters but within the margin of error tied with rand paul and scott walker. among all voters in new hampshire, jeb bush is viewed positively by only 35% of new hampshire voters. that is a poor comparison to hillary clinton viewed favorably by 54%. as you know it is still early.

neither one of them has gotten around to officially saying they're running. >> that might take a bit. thanks. let's go to robin. >> now to an alarming new report about our cars. it finds vehicles using wireless technology vulnerable to hackers gaining control of its electron electronics or steal personal information. auto makers failed to protect drivers? abc is here with much more. >> this is very concerning. they may not look it. all the new cars on the road are becoming more and more like our smart phones connected to wireless technology that gives them lots of power and useful features but that technology it can also make our cars more vulnerable to hack attacks. this report finds serious gaps in the security. this morning an alarming new report says millions of cars and trucks are vulnerable to cyber attacks that threaten drivers' safety and privacy. >> there's inherent failures and security risks if you will that

are available on all vehicles. >> the federal report found the majority of auto makers security measures are inconsistent in their about to detect and prevent security breaches. cars that run on wireless technology could be hacked. letting someone take control of the car from anywhere in the world with even just a smartphone. wls demonstrated what happened when a technology expert took control of his vehicle. >> going 20 miles an hour. would it be possible to actually take over the car and steer somebody into an oncoming vehicle? >> there are cars with assists. as far as the system knows it's trying to park the vehicle and turn the wheels for you. >> some auto makers are sharing information with outside vendors vendors. the history could be shared without the consumer knowing it for marketing purposes. so what type of information can they collect from your car? what you're driving when and

robin. >> life saving advice. beginning with the fatal car crash involving bruce jenner. his suv involved in a chain collision leaving one driver dead. under police investigation and this morning jenner is speaking out. good morning. >> good morning, robin. that crash happening on this narrow and winding stretch of pacific coast highway. the car in front of jenner's suv going into oncoming traffic. the woman behind the wheel losing her life. >> bruce, are you okay? >> reporter: overnight bruce jenner speaking out about the deadly malibu pileup he was involved in over the weekend telling abc news my heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones and to all involved or injured in this terrible accident. i will continue to cooperate in every way possible. >> we now have seven patients

including one doa. >> reporter: paparazzi capturing images of the moment of impact saturday. trying to determine if jenner had a cell phone in his hand at the time of the incident. investigators deciding if they should pull records of everyone in the accident. the evidence will show bruce was not texting at the time of the accident they claim. jenner a reality star and olympic gold medallist telling the police paparazzi had nothing to do with the crash. the chain reaction involved four cars are on the pacific coast highway happening less than three miles from jenner's home. a woman driving a dark blue toyota up bankruptly slowed down causing the lexus to crash into her. jenner driving an escalade with an attached trailer and rear-ending that lexus possibly

propelling it into oncoming traffic. a hummer traveling in the southbound lane striking the lexus head-on. >> it sounded horrific. the cars look demolished. >> a widow and resident of a gated community seen here on this web pain supporting a nonprofit group against animal research pronounced dead on the scene. two adults and three children inside the humvee briefly hospitalized with nonthreatening injuries. jenner walked away uninjured and passed a field sobriety test and offered a blood sample. police tell us they'll be following up with him and others in the accident this week. >> turning to the vanderbilt rape case. cory batey awaiting sentencing after being convicted of raping a fellow student. he's speaking for the first time
