less than two weeks. >> back here, mayor nutter joins other city leaders in hopes of boosting college attend animals. >> the big story this afternoon, an icy monday in the delaware valley. >> salt trucks were treating roads in quakertown, bucks county. any precipitation that fell from the sky was freezing and creating a hazardous condition for the morning commute. >> two advance collided on route -- two have have vans collided after 8:00 a.m. traffic was backed up as crews cleaned up the debris from the roadway. >> we have live team coverage of our icy afternoon. david murphy keeping an eye on storm tracker 6 live for us. john rawlins is in bucks county

where some of the roads have seen it worlds. let's go to the "action news" big board david. >> reporter: treated surfaces have been treating this, well. we have a system coming in from lancaster that's isolated, when it hits it's getting the surfaces wet and maybe freezing up depending on whether you've had treatment. there's some in chester county, philadelphia, and allentown and this is the third or fourth batch in the lehigh valley. not much going on in south jersey. even this little bit can be a problem when you have temperatures around the freezing mark as we've had yesterday. we have a lot of snow in new england, more for boston, as you mentioned. weir looking at a broken pattern

today and tonightment we could see the snow line push into the northern suburbs and doesn't look like it will amount to that much. let's move on to the winter weather advisory, this is in effect not only today but tonight, the main issues yosemite area light freezing rain, maybe sleet mixed in, and later on tonight some of the snow coming into the northern suburbs. the world to the wise if you're on foot or behind the wheel even though there's a spotty light precipitation temperatures are near freezing and you see drops you want to slow down because they could be freezing up beneath your tires. the untreated surfaces that will see the worst icing the rest of the day and tonight. rick williams when i come back i'll talk about how this gets out of here and how it involves. and we'll look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast and see what's coming next.

>> thank you let's switch live to john rawlins in newtown bucks county where people had a slippery commute to say the least. >> reporter: that's correct rick williams it was dicey going particularly in the early morning hours 6:00 a.m. 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., even always late as 9:00 a.m. slippery conditions on the roads, particularly on sidewalks and driveways and now things have gotten better in the last few hours but on the sidewalk right in the center of the burrow here you can see there's ice around here. earlier we spoact with -- spoke with a resident a fella named harry hues cleaning off his wife's car. >> she was coming down the sidewalk, no problem, as soon as she went around the car she lost it. >> everything, brief case, everything gone.

>> reporter: harry's wife was okay, it was a slip and fall kind of morning. overnight a light rain sort of drizzle and mist fell the precipitation froze on untreated surfaces from cars to sidewalks to driveways. ice formed on isolated road surfaces as this driver learned going to work at 6:45 when his rear wheel drive car ended up in a ditch. >> this before the salt trucks came outs the whole road was covered with ice and lost control of my car and went right into the ditch. >> reporter: a dicey morning for motorists and pedestrians getting around. it is better than it was in the earlier hours still as david murphy said be careful when you are going out you can't tell which surfaces are ice and which are clear. john rawlins channel 6 "action news." >> with another dicey morning

>> reporter: boston has been hit with five feet of snowfall. 178,000 miles of road have been plowed. >> there's information about what led to the death of a college student in delaware county. 18-year-old carly hall was found dead over the weekend. her boyfriend was arrested and charged in connection with the death. annie mccormick joins us live from hall always' alma mater union vig high school in -- unionville high school in center square. >> reporter: carly graduated in 2014. the principal notified all faculty last night once she learned about her death. she remembers her family specifically her devotion to had your twin sister and love of animals. the lancaster county prosecutor's office saying this is an on going investigation and the autopsy is scheduled for

this afternoon. lancaster county authorities are calling the death suspicious after she was discovered in her dorm room nonresponsive sunday morning. police arrested and charged her boyfriend with a felony count of aggravated assault. according to a to police he was covered in blood and administering cpr when the officers arrived. officers state that he and hall were at a party that evening and got into a verbal altercation and made up, later the fight turned physical. he allegedly admitted to police to shove her hard enough to knock her to the ground where she struck her head on the chair. he gave her a back hand to her face at which hall became unconscious. today we reached out to the family at the ken net square

home. >> anything you want to say about the charges against him just to get his side of the story. >> reporter: the family said under the direction of the lawyer they were asked not to make any comment. millersville released a statement saying there are grief counselors on students for any students that need to talk. as for the suspect he remains in lancaster county prison on $1.5 million bail. reporting live in unionville, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> the morning coffee run was anything but routine for customers in the olney section of philadelphia. police say a robber fired a shot inside the dunkin' donuts at the intersection of north 5th and sommerville avenue. the robbery happened at 6:30, police say the suspect made off with cash and fled the store in a burgundy toyota, nobody was hurt.

>> a large tree landed on top of a home in northern california after storms wreaked havoc across northern california this weekend. officials believe the saturated ground caused the tree to collapse yesterday nobody was hurt by the fallen tree. >> david murphy is here with accuweather, after an icy spots in some spots wondering what's ahead for the afternoon and evening. . it could be icy on sidewalks and side streets that have not been treated. storm tracker 6 live double scan even though it's not precipitating much across the region. there are light bands of blue, it's rain, falling in the sub freezing surface temperatures and freezing up as it hits the

beyond that's the deference of freezing rain. some of this is coming in from philadelphia malvern norristown will pick up some before too much longer. coats and the rest of the of it out of lancaster county. figure up farther to the north here, you will see that there's that additional band that is now pushing past milford and easton. in any of these places that had this in the recent past you could have new icing on sidewalks, what have you. i would like to leave you with the wider view nothing in south jersey and delaware. as we look outside we have cloudy conditions in center city. hard to see the top of the center city sky we might goat to 33 briefly. temperatures will support the freeze up should any additional precipitation pop through.

28 in allentown and 28 in wilmington. millville was at 32, but back up to 34 there. areas south should maintain temperatures above freezing. not inasmuch as an issue south. take it slow if you see a drizzle drop or rain on the windshield in case it freezes up. obviously the bulk of the precipitation is to the north. we're looking at scattered stuff through the afternoon. do notice in the afternoon and evening there's a changeover to light snowfall in the northern suburbs. 6:00 p.m. there could more of that trailing to the north. and then we get to 11, 11:30 doesn't look like there's a whole lot going on then. we have spotty precipitation making showers come through. icy roads are possible, especially side streets overpasses is another thing i would watch out for. icy sidewalks tonight and

perhaps into tomorrow morning as well. in allentown, going for a high of 31 degrees, cloudy skies and light freezing rain possible at times and sleet mixing in and snow. and down the shore you've got cloudy skies light rain and drizzle and 35 the high there. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast shows a high of 33 in philadelphia today. not mild enough to melt any ice that formed. the only thing that will do that is salt or warmer temperatures tomorrow. look for light freezing rain and sleet around if you're driving around and you see it, looking like rain on the windshield slow it down, because the temperatures below are cold enough to support ice. it's over early tomorrow morning, probably done between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m. possible some freezing there. the afternoon better, 43. 39 on wednesday. thursday a snow shower around in the afternoon and evening. cold on friday, valerie valentine's
