beaten and bleeding from her face and head. witnesses say they heard the victim tell investigators that she had been raped and beaten but that information has not yet been confirmed by police. investigators we spoke with say what has them taken aback is the fact that this took place on a busy train platform right in the middle of the day. the 28-year-old victim has been transported to the hospital. surveillance video from inside and around the station has been handed over to philadelphia police. they, of course, are looking to see if the incident was captured on camera. they're also looking to verify one witness account that the victim and the attacker may have entered the station together and may have known each other but once again, at this point that is conjecture. what we do know is that a 28-year-old woman was found beaten badly beaten and taken to the hospital. keep an eye on 6abc.com for updates to this story. reporting live from center city, walter perez, channel6 "action news." >> all right walter thank you. it is a gray soggy way to start the work week and the slippery conditions outside

have caused several accidents throughout the day. accuweather says those wet roads could ice over as we move through tonight and into tomorrow. >> new jersey correspondent nora muchanic will show us the trouble the icy conditions have caused us today but let's start with meteorologist adam joseph. he's live at the big board. >> the bad news temperatures are below freezing areawide with a little bit of precipitation passing through. the good news most of the major roads fare well overnight because they have been salted and will continue to be salted and cars continue to move on them. also we don't have a lot of precipitation that's passing through so double scan live radar will show most the precipitation, we're talking two plus feet of snow again in southern new england and the associated low to the south is pushing to the south so we're kind of in a void area between those two systems, one to the north and one to the south and as we look at double scan live radar you could see parts of berks county, lancaster county northern chester county it is very light, it is very spotty. we don't have a wall of

precipitation passing through. so, anywhere where you see some of this blue, yes it's a little sleet pellet passing through, also a little bit of light drizzle that is freezing on nontreated surfaces and winter weather advisories will remain in effect through 6 o'clock tomorrow morning for the entire area because of those temperatures below freezing with a little bit of mist or drizzle it doesn't take much to adhere some of that water droplets onto some is your pages it's 26 in allentown, 28 reading, 29 in lancaster, 31 in millville and right now freezing in dover. so what to expect overnight tonight? not a lot of precipitation. it's very scatter, it's very light but it would be in the form of some freezing drizzle and sleet. maybe a mixed snow shower late north of philadelphia and it's untreated surfaces that will is your many turn icy the sidewalks, the driveways, the cars as you head out tonight and early tomorrow morning but we're going to talk about a very cold active week ahead brian in that accuweather forecast. more snow showers thursday and then into the weekend more snow showers to start saturday before the coldest air of the

winter season comes in by sunday. we'll have all those numbers coming up. >> boston just getting blasted. >> like 75-inchs in two weeks. >> unbelievable. thank you very much. as we mentioned we've seen slippery conditions all across the region all day long and that's caused a few car accidents that led to a few emergency room visits for people left sliding out there on the ice. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic has more on that as she continues team coverage live in trenton. hi, nor eight. hi, brian. doesn't matter how steady you normally are on your feet if you hit the ice the wrong way you're going to slip. that has meant a lost car crashes today and a busy day for emergency rooms dealing with folks who took a fall on the ice. >> actually it's not safe out here. it's very, very slippery out here very slippery and you have to walk like you ice skating. >> reporter: traffic on route 73 in maple shade came to a halt after 8 o'clock where a multi vehicle accident near styles avenue occurred. police say icy roads contributed to the crash.

two people suffered minor injuries. it's a date when many people were hurt trying to walk on icy sidewalks or in their own driveways. >> my dad was walking down the drive way this morning and he slid on the black ice that's on the drive way. he didn't see it. and he fell and he twisted his left ankle. >> reporter: capitol health regional medical center in trenton was hopping throughout the day. the emergency room was filled with patients who wound up slipping and falling on the ice. >> we got everything from sprained knees to fractured ankles to fractured arms to mild concussions to stitches getting in their heads right now. >> reporter: the icy rain left a coat ought roads sidewalk and cars. it looks like water but that's a thick coating of ice on top of this vehicle. that's what people are trying to walk and drive on. >> i've seen a couple other people slip over by the train station. >> reporter: what happened. >> doing a little dance. they ain't fall to the grounder but they did a little jig. some of the sidewalks is kind of slippery. >> the roads, 195 that was a little bit on the slippery

side but you had to reduce your speed and everything was fine. >> just everybody be careful. a lot of ice on the roads. doesn't seem like it's going to get better. >> reporter: and that's the truth. especially with a chance of more freezing rain and sleet and possible some snow flurries. you're looking at route 1 south right now. the roads are okay at this point but with more precipitation things could turn ugly later on tonight if the roads do freeze up. so, whether you're walking or driving you really do need to be careful so that you aren't one of those folks who wind up in the er. live in trenton nora muchanic, channel6 "action news." brian. >> nora thanks. mobile6 is watching the roads for us today. a live look at the conditions on the ben franklin parkway right by the art museum. you can see roads are just kind of wet at this point but that's the problem. conditions have improved throughout the day but of course we do expect temperatures to plunge once again tonight and that means that those conditions, those roads will likely freeze.

up the crime before calling paramedics. courted records reveal a violent confrontation inside karlie hall's dorm room in bard hall on the millersville university campus. police say they responded to the second floor room and found hall's boyfriend gregorio orrostieta giving his girlfriend cpr his hands and jeans were bloody shirt ripped and he had scratch marks. he told police they argued after a party and he shoved her. she hit her head on a chair and then "he gave hall a back hand to her face" after which she became unresponsive. >> time period where he did not emerge from the room and we can only speculate as to what he was doing or thinking. the thing that we are clear about is that he's responsible and we'll hold him accountable. >> reporter: on campus today students are still coming to grips with the crime. >> to happen here is absolutely astounding. it's extremely sad. >> i didn't hear anything going on in their room or

anything. the two arrived at the small campus in central pennsylvania this past fall as freshman. hall had graduated from unionville high school in chadds ford. her boyfriend, orrostieta graduated from nearby kennett square high school. he was not a student at millersville. just a few hours before the deadly assault, haul posted this picture with her boyfriend. her friends remember a young woman who always had a smile. >> karlie was a really great girl always smiling, happy to be around. i mean, never had anything bad to say about anyone. >> reporter: and the university has provided counselors to fellow students. a vigil will be held tonight at 7:00 p.m. live in lancaster, chad pradelli channel6 "action news." alicia. >> chad thank you. boston is already buried and now the third major snowstorm in two weeks is slamming new england. they've already been socked with a record breaking 5 feet of snow, three winter storms in just two weeks and today

the national weather service says they could get two more feet of snow before it ends. schools and municipal offices in many communities are closed and parking bans are in effect. just a blanketed in white there. everyone is out again shoveling and plowing. the city is now trying to figure out just where to dump all of this extra snow. >> never seen this type of snow here in the city of boston any other time in the history of our city. >> well, the snow also piled up on the rails there this morning leaving a train stuck near boston with 50 people stranded during their morning commutes. to put this in perspective the city of boston has already plowed more than 178,000 miles of roadway and it has taken more than 99,000 man hours to try and clear the snow and you guys another 2 feet headed for that area. it's been a rough winter for them. >> to say the least. apparently more snow coming later this week for boost on. >> my goodness. >> alicia thank you. >> still ahead violence is

to pass through to coat everything with ice. there will just be these little patches near marlton and medford lakes, also one near media that will quickly release a fine amount of either freezing drizzle or some sleet that would adhere to surfaces that aren't treated and as you head to the north and west you can see it's spotty near green lane pottstown honeybrook along 322 and any moisture that falls tonight again if the surfaces are not treated could turn a little slick. we take a look at this particular picture sent into my twitter page from gina in brookhaven sewing showing some of that ice that is coating some of the cars. this in brookhaven and kind of duplicated across much of the area. my go-to is always if there's ice on your windshield when you head out it means it's cold enough for that ice to form on untreated surfaces like bridges and overpasses and we thank gina for sharing this on my twitter page and we'll be there all evening tweeting out information for you as well so head over there and follow if you're not

already. driving concerns overnight tonight. again untreated surfaces mainly the cars, parking lots driveways sidewalks the bridges the overpasses, most of the major roads and secondary roads won't have major concerns or minor concerns because they've been heavily salted and not a lot of precipitation will come through tonight. temperatures, though are already below freezing across much of the area so we're not going to see one of those rapid freeze-ups because temperatures are already below that threshold of 32 degrees. and we have that northeasterly wind adding wind chills in the teens across much of the area, 22 wilmington and 23 in dover. but high pressure will be coming in. once this pushes offer the coast after midnight tonight that high comes in tomorrow to bring us some afternoon sunshine but until then temperatures will fall and generally stay in the 20's overnight tonight with that scattered freezing drizzle passing through creating some of those patchy icy spots but temperatures tomorrow looking pretty good. 41 philadelphia in the afternoon, 40 in reading, 42 wilmington as the sun returns so a pretty nice second day of

telling the full story. what you can't see is the ice coating many sidewalks and side streets. let's get straight over to meteorologist adam joseph for more on how long the problem will persist and what's coming next adam. >> until those temperatures rise above freezing tomorrow morning that ice condition will be a problem as we go through this evening and overnight tonight but the good news is we're not expecting a big ice buildup tonight. it's just that little glaze and it's only that little glaze that causes big problems as we look at double scan live radar. not a lost precipitation passing through the region right now. as you can see near boyertown and green lane, kutztown fleetwood anywhere where you see blue that is sleet mixing with what seems to be plain old rain falling from the sky but then when it makes contact with the ground which is below freezing it does leave a little coating on the cars the sidewalks also the park lots and some surfaces that are not treated like the bridges and the overpasses. so, winter weather advisory remains in effect just because of that little glaze that is

developing through at least 6 o'clock tomorrow morning for the entire viewing area. and again, at the very end in the lehigh valley it could mix with a couple of wet snowflakes. here's the problem. temperatures are below freezing across-the-board. 26 in allentown, 27 in trenton, 31 in millville, 29 in lancaster. most of the major roads have been salted at this point but again, use caution as you're heading out because it just takes a little drizzle for some of that water to adhere and freeze on surfaces. so in fact temperatures are below freezing overnight tonight and anything untreated will be icy. it doesn't matter what the surface is. but then by tomorrow afternoon temperatures will bounce back to the 40's. so we will melt much of this little glaze away. we'll talk about the harshest told snap we've seen coming up in that seven-day forecast. >> more to come. thank you add today. we know when temperatures go down during weather like this so do pedestrians. people have been slipping and sliding on black ice all day long. bloomquist is live now in olde city with an update on the conditions there. hi sarah. >> reporter: hi shirleen. you can see the ice. it's definitely one of those afternoons and evenings where you're going to need to watch your step. you can see here on the bricks, we're on new street just off of third and it's quite shriekers a lot of salt down already but areas that are untreated even some spots that have the salt down are still getting slick at this point. and check out the cars here parked along new street. this sure tells the story tonight. car after car down the block just coated in a thin layer of ice, enough you'll need to scrape it you have. you did remember your ice scraper, didn't you? it's an afternoon for an ice scraper as a thin layer formed on surfaces like car windows as temperatures dropped through the afternoon. you'll need to scrape, scrape it away before you get on the go. on washington square, tiny icicles formed on the

information mal signs about historical sites. it will be an evening to watch one's step if you're out and about. in olde city, this maintenance man was filling up then setting out getting the salt down on sidewalks and parking lots so that tenants headed out of the nearby apartments don't slip. as you can see their cars are also covered in a thin sheet of ice. on franklin square no kids around. they couldn't play anyway. there's ice coating the equipment. the benches too. everything untreated is covered in a thin layer of ice. the streets department was on the move on market street. the city will have 70 salt trucks on duty through the night to treat primary and secondary roads as conditions will likely turn slick. and if you look back live here on the sidewalk on new street this resident of this home here just put do you know even more salt. the streets department advises in these types of conditions you might need to go out and salt several times for it to

fortunately no one was hurt. if you have any information on the robbery, call police. and police in warminster bucks county are looking for suspects after a country farms was robbed overnight. it happened on the 200 block of york road at 3 o'clock this morning. police say the suspect used a hammer to smash out the glass in the front door in order to get inside. the suspect then took cash and lottery tickets. the suspect is believed to have made his get away in a white work van. >> several bars in new castle county have a new tool to keep drunk drivers off the roads. looks like something you might mind a casino but this device is a breathalyzer vending machine that measures a person's blood alcohol level. for one dollar a sanitary straw is dispense. a person blows into the device which registers hearse his or her bac. >> a teaching assistant in new york city arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old mentally disabled student. 29-year-old maria contreras was fired from her position last week after the students made those allegations. prosecutors say the encounters all took place inside her bronx apartment. but she vigorously denies any wrongdoing. her lawyer says there's no physical or video evidence and that the boy made the whole story up. contreras is the mother of two toddlers. >> a decision to try to clear a storm drain in brazil nearly cost a nine-year-old boy and his uncle their lives. cell phone footage shows the child helping his family unclog the blocked drain near their home. now watch what happens when the boy tries to jump on the mass of plants. both he and his uncle disappear. amazingly the pair popped back up unharmed about 20 feet away. the nine-year-old even started cheering and laughing. clearly unfazed by his near death experience.

>> ♪♪ here at the big board with the big talker there was a big prison break in brazil. 26 prisoners got out, some of them with stolen weapons that belonged to guards, rifles, revolvers. well, this blot was pulled off by two women with two weapons of their own whiskey and lingerie. police in brazil say it was something out of a movie. the women showed up wearing skimpy police officers costumes, two guards let them in and the women served up the whiskey which, by the way is laced with drugs. those officers are found the next morning passed out with no clothes on and handcuffed. those 26 prisoners gone. 11 of them have been found they're back behind bars. those two guards are out of a job and yeah, that's quite a story. now, to a woman fired over a tweet it's not the first time someone has gotten into hot water over a post on social media and it won't be the last but this teenager hadn't even started her job as

route 100 also a little bit of precipitation, also near the lehigh valley, fleetwood. any snow you can see is well to the north of allentown where you see a little bit of white so again we're not expecting a lot of precipitation overnight but it just takes a little bit to create some big problems. 27 right now in trenton as well as allentown. reading 28 degrees. 31 in wilmington, 31 in millville. numbers aren't going to drop a whole lot much further overnight. they're going to settle into the 20's. as this system continues to pass through. again, parts of boston and southern shores of massachusetts over 2 feet of snow today. down to the south also some precipitation. for the carolinas and virginias. future tracker through midnight shows we don't have a wall of precipitation. again, very spotty around, could even mix with a snowflake very late in the lehigh valley. even in the wee hours of the morning most of the area will be dry at 5:30 but there could be a little bit of mixed sleet or freezing showers south of millville, dover, to the shore. as we take a look way to the

north and west, it's going to be quiet tuesday wednesday. our next chance for snow showers is this system in the northern rockies and the southern parts of western canada. that will progress through as a very sharp arctic front here on thursday afternoon and behind that we get our first little stab of brutal cold air for the end of the week on friday with highs in the 20's. we have a deepening low here and you get a reinforcing shot of that very bitter air come the second half of the weekend. on sunday at 8:00 a.m., highs will only be in the teens for sunday and that cold weather is going to go way down to the south, even parts of northern florida maybe some frost or freeze problems come the weekend. tonight, though, scattered freezing rain and sleet on the scattered variety and very light but it will create some icy spots. 21 to 27 for the overnight low and and the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 41 tomorrow afternoon breaks of sun, a pretty nice tuesday on tap. looking pretty good wednesday as well at 38 degrees. we'll watch for some snow
