ntreated roads with enough icy spots to make them treacherous. in fact, the roads aren't the only things that are icy. motorists in yardley found ice coating their cars as well. as for our immediate future, let's check double scan radar and meteorologist cecily tynan at the big board. cecily. >> and jim, storm tracker 6 live double scan showing that it's not over quite yet. we have some pockets of some light freezing rain south of philadelphia. the steadiest right now is northern chester county, parts of berks and lancaster county. that's all moving to the east. so s-the national weather service has posted winter weather advisories overnight north of philadelphia they expire at midnight but philadelphia and areas to the south the winter weather advisories are in effect until 6 o'clock tomorrow morning. so, this could cause some more problems for the start of the morning commute. the problem the temperatures. the precipitation is light but with temperatures below freezing across most our viewing area, as soon as it hits the untreated surfaces it creates a glaze and temperatures will not be rising above freezing until

midday tomorrow. so, this is what to expect overnight. not any heavy precipitation but some scattered pockets of freezing rain mixing in with a little bitter of sleet. could have a few snow showers in the wee hours of morning could leave a quick coating. the big problem is that any surface that's not treated will get icy especially sidewalks and driveways also bridges and overpasses so do you want to be very careful. once this system is out of here i'm tracking two more later in the week with some snow showers and then the coldest air mass so far this seasonally i'll talk about that in the accuweather 7-day forecast. jim. >> all right, cecily. let's go live to new jersey correspondent nora muchanic on route 1 in trenton. nor remarks both cars and people have been experiencing their fair share of bumps and bruises. >> reporter: jim, the ice that we're seeing on roadways and driveways is absolutely treacherous and lots of people are learning that the hard way today. >> side streets and sidewalks no good. got to be careful.

>> reporter: what are the sidewalks like. >> about quarter inch of ice. >> reporter: jen is one of the victims of this morning's ice. walking now on crutches we caught up with him and his daughter as they left a trenton hospital. >> my dad was walking down the drive way this morning and he slid on the black ice that's on the drive way. he didn't see it and he fell and twisted his left ankle. >> reporter: he wasn't alone. the emergency room at capitol health regional medical center was hopping today filled with people who were not able to negotiate driveways and sidewalks like this. coated in ice. >> we got everything from sprained knees to fractured ankles to fractured arms to mild concussions. >> reporter: this garbage nan robbinsville wasn't injured but says he jumped off the truck this morning and landed flat on his back. >> just when you jump off you don't really like look, you just jump and half the time if you do land on ice you fall. >> you got to be careful out here. i saw a few cars slipping sliding making turns. you got to watch out. >> reporter: in maple shade this morning slick roads are believed to have played a part

in this multi vehicle at on route 73 near styles avenue. two people suffered minor injuries and route 73 north was shut down for a time. the overnight precipitation left a coating on outdoor surfaces. that's ice, not rain on the hood of this car. take a look at this mailbox. it looks fine from far away but if you look up closer there's a sheen of ice on top of that. if you're walking on something like this, you're going to be in trouble. and that's why salting and sanding sidewalks is a top priority for many businesses and homeowners tonight. >> it's not safe out here. it's very, very slippery out here, very slippery and you have to walk like you ice skating, so -- >> reporter: well, in certain spots it feels like you're ice skating. you're looking at route 1 right now. the roads are just fine at this moment. jim, we've been driving around the area today and there are lots of driveways and sidewalks that have not been salted and sanded. you really have to be careful. you can slip and fall a second. live in trenton, i'm nora muchanic, channel6 "action news."

>> all right nor a. our coverage of the wintry weather continues on 6abc.com/weather. we have storm tracker 6 radar and the accuweather forecast to keep you prepared for whatever winter weather comes our way. and the "action news" morning team will get an early start tomorrow to help us navigate the potentially icy weather. just join matt o'donnell tamala edwards meteorologist dave murphy and karen rogers at 4:00 a.m. for the latest accuweather forecast and the traffic conditions. >> ♪♪ now to a developing story in center city philadelphia. police are investigating the bloody assault of a woman on the concourse of septa's jefferson station this afternoon. that's where "action news" reporter walter perez is now live. walter, what are the details? >> reporter: well, jim it happened right here at septa's jefferson station here in center city. tonight we're told the victim remains hospitalized after enduring a terrible beating at the hands of a man that investigators say they believe

the victim knew. it was right around 1:30 this afternoon when investigators say a woman was seen bruised and bloodied walking up from the train platform to the concourse inside septa's jefferson station. transit officers quickly came to help the victim described only as a 28-year-old woman. the victim reportedly told police that she has been beat by a man who tried to sexually assault her. surveillance video from inside and around the station has already been handed over to philadelphia police. but investigators tell "action news" they believe the victim entered the station with her attacker. it's believed they then went together to an area behind the stairwell next to the tracks beneath the platform and that's where the attack occurred. with in said investigators say they believe the victim and attacker know each other. still commuters we spoke with today say the fact that the attack occurred on a monday afternoon inside a busy train station is disturbing. >> there's a lot of people there during that day. i can't believe that.

>> i find that a little dangerous but i'm always looking behind me when i'm coming especially this time of day. >> reporter: all right back out live the victim is still being treater and has not yet been thoroughly questioned just yet and so investigators tell us they still do not have an id on the suspect and no arrests have been made tempt reporting live from center city, walter perez, channel6 "action news." >> thank you walter. we now know how refreshment at -- a freshman after millersville university was killed and the name of her boyfriend the suspected killer. "action news" reporter chad pradelli has that story. >> reporter: lancaster county district attorney craig stedman says karlie hall's boyfriend beat and strangled her. he then allegedly waited several hours and tried to cover up the crime before calling paramedics himself. >> to happen here is absolutely astounding. it's extremely sad. >> karlie was really great girl almost smiling happy to be around. never had anything bad to say about anyone.

>> reporter: today disbelief and sadness over the alleged murder of karlie hall. investigators say her boyfriend, gregorio orrostieta killed karlie hall inside her millersville dorm room yesterday. he allegedly told investigators the two argued at a party. after returning to her room he then shoved and back handed his girlfriend when she hit her hair on a chair and became unresponsive. >> the injuries she suffered were far greater and more severe than a back hand slap and one push. >> reporter: police say orrostieta had bloody hands jeans and a ripped shirt. the two had been dating for 11 months. he was a graduate of kennett high school. she was from chadds ford and a graduate of unionville high school. the university called her death unfathomable. >> university counselors and staff are on campus all day yesterday and continue to be available to all those who loved karlie and to any of our students who are impacted by this. >> it was nice seeing her around the dorm and everybody processes in their own way so

it will take time but we're doing okay. >> reporter: and the university will hold a candlelight vigil tonight at 7:00 p.m. in lancaster, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news". >> the morning run for coffee was anything but routine in the olney section of philadelphia this morning. police say an armed robber jumped the counter at the dunkin' donuts at the intersection of north fifth street and west somerville avenue. it happened at 6:30: one customer and four employees inn in the store at the time. police say the robber grabbed cash from the register and fired a single shot toward the back of the store. fortunately nobody was hurt. the man was last seen leaving in a burgundy colored toyota. police in warminster bucks county looking for the man who robbed a convenience store early this morning. surveillance video shows the suspect using a hammer so smash out the front door of the county farms on york road. once inside the robber stole an undetermined amount of

crash and lottery tickets. the robbery happened at 3 o'clock in the morning. police believe the suspect made his get away in a white work van. new tonight, the owners of atlantic city's former revel casino say they will cancel the deal with a florida developer if it doesn't go through by midnight. today should have been the deadline for glen straub to purchase the building for $95 million but late last night he agreed to extends the deadline while a judge here's appeals from former tenants. those business owners were in court today. in addition to canceling the sale, the casino says it will keep straub's 10 million-dollar deposit. a two vehicle crash shut down the intersection of airport and christiana roads this afternoon. delaware state police say that shortly after 1 o'clock a cadillac an black suv collided at that intersection. the cadillac then jumped the curb and struck a utility pole. both drivers were taken to

christiana hospital for treatment. crews in delaware county spent the early morning hours repairing a broken water main. problem was discovered on the 1000 block of pontiac road in drexel hill. water was flowing from the broken main in front of the pilgrim garden station post officers. that's near ross department store. crews arrived on the scene at 3:40. the main was repaired and the road reopened by 6 o'clock this morning. coming up on "action news" tonight, some bars in delaware have installed a new tool to help drivers decide whether or not to get behind the wheel. and with no winners saturday, the powerball jackpot jumps to its third largest in history. cecily. >> i'm tracking more freezing rain moving in in the overnight hours and later this week two opportunities for snow followed by the coldest air mass of the season. i'll have details in the accuweather forecast. >> steve mason's injury forced the flyers to issue a mayday call. ducis rodgers with that story when "action news" continues

drizzle hon honeybrook as well. this will continue on and off throughout the overnight hours. i want to show you what one of our viewers sent in to me on facebook much this is kelly from aston pennsylvania, and this is a picture of her back porch and it is glazed over with ice. the problem with porches or any elevated surface like bridges and overpasses, you get the cold air underneath it so it can freeze a lot faster than the roads generally across the region. the accuweather highlights show you the icing concerns continues tonight. be very careful. untreated surfaces, the parking lots, driveways sidewalks, also the bridges and the overpasses. just take things very slowly. don't try to turn or brake quickly. we're going from freezing rain to start the week to brutal cold to end the week. by sunday, the jet stream dropping well down to the south. we're looking at the coldest air of the season. temperatures will likely not even climb out of the teens and that cold air will reach the entire eastern seaboard even down across florida. tonight temperatures below freezing, 29 degrees in

philadelphia allentown 25, trenton 27, millville and wilmington currently 31 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar showing that center of low pressure is down across virginia. that's the heavy precipitation. here we're just dealing with the light drizzle and the sleet and the snow and that will continue tonight. so future tracker showing around 8:30 snow across the lehigh valley heading into the morning hours. everything begins to dry out a little bit. we still could see some freezing drizzle across parts of the cape may. winter weather advisory in effect until 6 o'clock for areas south of philadelphia. satellite 6 along with action radar showing the next system is pulling into the pacific northwest. this will bring us snow showers on thursday. colder air friday and another system on saturday bringing us more snow showers and that will bring us that arctic air on sunday. association the next 12 hours just be careful. freezing rain and sleet. some icy patches. 21 degrees the low in the suburbs, 27 for center city. and the exclusive accuweather

7-day forecast we start the day with clouds. by the afternoon not bad a few breaks of sunshine with a high of 41 degrees. on wednesday sunshine, then increasing clouds, 38 degrees. on thursday, the first in a serious of front moving through. that will bring us snow showers, kick up the winds. the high 39. we reach that early. then temperatures dropping down into the 20's. friday windy and cold. we never climb out of the 20's. 23 degrees and heading into the weekend saturday which is valentine's day an even stronger cold front moves through. that will bring us some snow showers in the afternoon and evening hours so be careful if you're heading out on a date for valentine's day. 29 degrees and look at this on sunday. that's not the wind chill, that's the temperature. the high only 19. the overnight low six and monday for president's day more bitter cold with a high of only 26 degrees. so we get rid of the ice we get the snow and the cold. >> thank you. >> not a good week. >> no it's not. >> one philadelphia councilman
