>> good morning, it is 7:00 a.m., saturday, february 14. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news." we are tracking the possibility of snow squalls to move through just as many are enjoying a valentine's day dinner. plus plunging temperatures and wicked winds. the freezing temperatures quickly freeze water after a main break in philadelphia overnight. police are searching for two men who took off after their suv smashed into a septa trolley overnight. first though, let's head outside to chris sowers with the accuweather forecast. i can see you shaking out there chris. >> reporter: this is only 89 beginning we're about to experience chicago weather over the next 24 to 48 hours. when you flip over to the maps it's not too bad. when you look at the actual air temperatures. it's cold in slatington. martins creek 11.

quakertown 1. there's not much of a breeze so the windchills are not as harsh as yesterday. buena, 26. glassboro, 21 on the boards in atlantic city. 29 degrees. wind speeds are out of the south/southwest at 5 to 1 miles per hour. boy are these numbers going to change over the next 24 hours. we'll see gusts as high as 60 miles per hour by monday afternoon. we're expecting wind and icy cold temperatures to move in. as you look at doubling scan live you'll see the snow showers and snow squalls move in across western pennsylvania. we have a lot of weather to talk about over the next couple of days. what to expect, snowshowers develop around lunchtime but they are snow showers the lighter stuff. the squalls arrive in the afternoon. i know it's valentine's day if you have plans for dinner or camping a movie be prepared for

quick-changing possibilities. you could be traveling down the road one minute, the next minute you can't see a thing. be prepared for slippery roads and it will turn windy later this evening. we have record cold on the way monday morning. we have the potential to see temperatures we haven't seen in over two decades. monday's low is 2 to 3 degrees on that date we've only hit that number 3 times. 2 degrees, on january 20th, actually february 5th, 3 degrees and january 24th 3 degrees. right now we're forecasting two for monday morning. so it's going to be some of the coldest air we've seen in more than two decades. north and west you're dropping below zero. places like allentown and quakertown it wouldn't surprise me if you're below zero. when i step back inside we'll

talk about the record cold and focus on the snow squalls that are on the the way later this evening, and the cold forecast. >> the action cam is live on the scene in falls township bucks county where a police officer was hurt after a confrontation with a suspect about an hour ago. as the officer pulled into a 7-eleven he saw a vehicle and ran the license plate. he discovered that the car was stolen. he approached the vehicle. the suspect put the vehicle into reverse and hit the officer and his patrol car and took off. the officer fired off shots hitting the suspect in the chest. that suspect stopped on the 800 block of west bridge street and taken to st. mary's hospital in langhorne in critical condition. the officer is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries stay with "action news" and 6abc.com for the latest on the breaking story. road crews are preparing as

braved the brutal cold overnight. rising sun avenue and hunting park. firefighters responding to their own call came upon a broken 12-inch main. rising sun is blocked for repairs and there's a concern for icing. icing was a concern in south philadelphia after a water main break knocked out service for 80 customers. crews went to work on the 2400 block of south lamb better street. the broken main sent water gushing into some basements. police are looking for two men who took off after a destructive hit and run in south philadelphia. the suv hit a trolley and hit two parked cars. both men abandoned the suv no injuries were reported on the trolley.

governor wolf is talking about his decision to place a moratorium on the death penalty. he said the capitol punishment is error prone and expensive and anything but infallible. >> this is not anything that looking at this particular form of punishment. people who commit heinous crimes should be punished and serially, and we ought to bring that to as forceful a conclude as we can. i want to make sure this is appropriate. >> the state of pennsylvania has not executed an inmate since 1999. the attorney general's association called it a misuse of power. new jersey governor chris christie will take a new step in a president am run. he may launch a super pac. it allows the governor to raise

record-breaking temperatures monday morning and dangerously cold windchills sunday night into monday morning. future tracker 6 showing the snow showers and snow squalls. these are snow showers the lighter shades of gray. as we advance this, notice how the shades of purple are getting darker. as they approach the area are these are squalls, quick bursts of heavy snow, blinding snow maybe it lasts only 45 minutes. it's called whiteout conditions, just in time for the evening plans on valentine's day maybe you're heading to a movie or dinner. you have to deal with the twhietout -- whiteout conditions. strong gusty winds will make for dangerous traveling conditions. snowfall amounts again these snowfall totals we're talking about it snowing for a brief period of time. the maybe an hour or two hours to himself. we could see one to three inches of snow throughout the entire area.

poconos, north ward, # -- 3 to 6. a coating to an inch across delaware and extreme south jersey. one to three inches fall in a short period of time. national weather service issued a wind advisory, later this afternoon, the gusts approach 30 miles per hour by 4:00 p.m. overnight tonight 40 to 50-mile an hour. watch this, hurricane-force wind are 70 miles per hour plus. we're seeing gusts 55 to 65 across south jersey and delaware. that's a tremendous amount of wind it will create dangerous cold windchills sunday night into monday morning. these are actual air temperatures, monday morning zero in reading and allentown five below in the poconos.

snow. so when i step back inside we'll talk about how much you can see? your neighborhood and the icy-cold windchills sunday into monday. straight ahead in about ten minutes. we have an update on our breaking news involving a police officer in bucks county. the action cam is live on the scene where it all unfolded just before 6:00 a.m. police an officer was hurt after a confrontation with a suspect at a 7-eleven in falls township. the officer was on routine patrol when he saw a vehicle running in the parking lot. he ran the license plates and discovered the vehicle was stolen. when the officer tried to approach the vehicle the suspect backed up and hit the officer as well as his patrol car. the suspect took off. the officer fired off shots and hit the suspect in the chest. the suspect crashed on the # hundred block of west bridge street and taken to st. mary's in critical condition. the officer is in hospital in

services will be held for carl carl -- karlie hall. she was found dead inside her dorm. her boyfriend is charged with strangling and beating her. a woman is sentenced to five years probation for her role in a rain line drug ring. she pleaded guilty to pose drugs with intent to deliver. it was the main line drug ring. orr is the last person to be sentenced. the leaders neil scott and timothy brooks received jail time. in time midst of the measles outbreak, senator bob casey is urging pennsylvanians to give vaccinations a shot. they outlined steps that should help curb a measles outbreak.

there's a new development to politically lane closures at the girard point bridge. governor chris christie former campaign manager spokesperson for the governor and new jersey appointee are asking that a lawsuit be dismissed. business owners filed the suit that the lane closures were an inconvenience. a christy staffer and port authority official are accused of orchestrating the closures. governor christie is not accused of any wrong doing. governor chris christie has called for pension reform. state public he thinks approximates and other non-- public pensions are unsustainable. the taj mahal is closing it's poker room and hoping for a full house this summer.
