lets begin with meteorologist, melissa magee and the latest from accuweather. >> hi rick and monica, we are tracking the departing system leaving the region that left snowfall. the heaviest fell south of philadelphia we picked up 3.7 inches of snow in the city but dprex elhill we had a pocket of 5.1 inches reading 3.5 and woodside close to 6.5 inches of snowfall. and in new jersey we had the bulk of the snowfall. hamilton 6 inches, toms river 5.5 inches of snow and egg harbor city 6.1 and 7 inches down in cape may. the storm system has long departed and temperatures in the wake in the upper 20s, 27 in philadelphia and 26 in millville and 26 in trenton so despite the fresh snow pack temperatures are milder today than they were yesterday.

yesterday we had temperatures in the teens it's 11 degrees warmer in the city than the same time yesterday, 12 degrees warmer in the poconos and 10 degrees warmer in the wildwood i want to point that out it's warmer in fairbanks alaska at 31 degrees than it is in the delaware and lehigh valley. cambridge bay in canada 23 degrees below zero and 27 below in baker lake. another arctic attack as early as the end of the week and beyond. >> thank you melissa. the roads were dicey as we said this morning, several drivers and even a plow truck in newcastle, delaware lost control, many underestimated the conditions and were surprised how slick some areas were. cleaning off cars in millville was not a difficult job because

c. fire continues to burn in west virginia after a train carrying more than 100 tankers of crude oil derailed in west virginia and lit up the sky with a fire ball. hundreds of families were evacuated and two water treatment plans were closed after the derailment yesterday afternoon the national guard took water samples to see if it seeped into a nearby tributary on "action news" at 5:30 tonight. overseas the fighting continues in eastern ukraine even with the cease fire in place. at the center of the violence is the key transportation centers, the rebels claim they have taken

and another picture along the ben franklin bridge this picture was taken by jim you can see all the ice on the delaware river that is a concern as temperatures are cold and colder than they are right now. outside we look at the numbers 27 in philadelphia and warmer today than it was the same time yesterday, 20 in allentown and 26 in trenton and beach haven same thing along the coast in wildwood and dover. when you factor in the windchill it feels like 20 and 10 in allentown and 16 in reading and current windchill coming in at 18 degrees, here is what is going on on the big picture partly cloudy and quiet and dry and it will remain so for tonight. we widen out the picture and we are tracking more on the way, an area of low pressure in canada with the trailing arctic boundary that moves across indiana and st. louis this arctic front there is not a lot of moisture with it but it will

driving through our area. plus ark new program in camden is pledging to get folks back to work, we'll have the details. >> well tonight more dangers about oil trains are being exposed after we told you the trains are carrying these substances rights through philadelphia. a fire in west virginia is still smoldering after a train carrying 100 tankers of this crude oil exploded yesterday afternoon. wendy saltzman first reported on this earlier this month. wendy is live with more. >> reporter: the latest explosion again is putting this crude oil in the spotlight. in west virginia hundreds of families are evacuated from their homes and one person narrowly escaped the blast earlier this month "action news" questioned the safety and dangers of putting this crude on

trains traveling in our own backyards. >> in west virginia this crude oil explosion ripped through the sky sending fire balls hundreds of feet in the air. >> my friend's grandfather ran out of the house and after he ran out the train exploded and the house exploded. >> the tankers derailed near the town of boomer and they estimated 17 cars caught fire and erupted after witnesses caught the blast on camera. >> a mushroom cloud about as high as this like that. >> fire crews only option was to let the tankers burn themselves out igniting fears elsewhere about these trains traveling through highly populated areas. >> looking at other parts of the country and realizing some of that stuff might happen here. >> reporter: "action news" reports on the path they take in

our area, through the schuylkill and neighborhoods and into neighboring new jersey. >> american citizens are kept at enormous risks. security consultant fred millar says that they need to reroute the trains around residential areas, but that has not happened in philadelphia. a train derailed off the schuylkill in january of last year and one train carrying crude derailed near their south philadelphia rail yard, there was no oil spilled and the trains did not explode in those incidents. >> fortunately we don't have any serious incidents and we would like to keep it that way. >> reporter: there was only one person injured after inhaling the fumes. >> but 47 people were killed in canada when a crude oil train exploded there.

henry. how tough has it been there today. >> pretty tough for folks trying to shovel out. the roads have been pretty good, you can see traffic is light but things are moving well because the county had 12 plow trucks on the road since 8:00 last night between that and the salt and bright sunshine overhead and things cleared up pretty well and other folks spend the rest of the day shoveling out. the plows got the streets cleared pretty quickly but cars parked along the streets were buried. sharon alvarez had a class to get to at westchester university three hours away. >> they canceled a good amount of classes. >> lucky for you. you have to dig out and drive to westchester. >> and hopefully i don't freeze on my way home. >> the smithson's found themselves
