eva pilgram is live in delaware where people are living without heat all week and first lets get started with adam joseph live at the big board with accuweather. >> temperatures this afternoon with the sunshine despite that they are below that freezing point, not bad compared to where we have been. 30 in philadelphia we have broken the 30 degree mark in millville, 29 in allentown and even at the shore upper 20s to near 30 degrees, but this little warmth that has pushed in will not last long, we are tracking a cold front near pittsburgh and can you see it has scattered snow showers with it and as it progressed to the east most of the energy lifts to the north and goes to the south but we could get clipped by it in some communities this evening and if you see the snow showers that do pass through during the late evening hours you could get a coating to inch in spots especially the higher terrain north of philadelphia everyone

"action news" reporter david henry went along for the ride. >> they cast off the lines and head into the river not knowing what they will find out there. the captain of the ice breaker, capson does in every year. >> it's what we are out here to do. >> reporter: the capston is one of two coast guard ice breakers working 140 miles of delaware this boat was built in 1961 and can still handle ice up to 18 inches thick. >> if it gets over two feet thick we call in another ice breaker. but today the ice ranged from paper thin to 8 inches thick, if the river freezes over it can bring shipping commerce to a stand still. the big tankers and freighters can handle this stuff and

and the rest of the country, 7.5 degrees below normal. and boston 12 degrees below normal and new york city 10 degrees below normal. double scan live radar here is the arctic front we see snow showers with it not a solid line it's scattered and that is the general trend as you go through the evening hours even at 7:30 we start to see the snow showers breaking out in the western suburbs, not everyone will be hit but if you do you see a quick coating to an inch, it's light fluffy snow and philadelphia to the south and pushing off the coast after midnight and quick clearing as the winds whip up after midnight. with the snow showers and arctic front between 7:00 and midnight where they hit they could be quickly heavy coating the ground for an inch and low visibility and roads turn slick.

now to the accuweather forecast. adam joseph i can't believe it's going to get colder than we had already. >> in 23 years i think we haven't seen a temperature this cold. hopefully the last hit of arctic air. spring is just a month or so away, double scan live radar we had a lot is of sunshine today and clouds are starting to build and between lancaster and reading, some gray is popping up and light flurries are developing and we are awaiting an arctic front that will pull through here in the next couple

of hours. trenton and wilmington and reading and in millville, all areas tried to hit the freezing point and upper 20s, we'll take it with that sunshine the clouds are pushing in for the snow showers. and west of state college, a few hours away before some of us get hit by a couple of snow showers, they are scattered and not everyone sees them and still west of lancaster and reading and they push towards philadelphia and again if you get kind of interrupted or so by snow showers, a coating to as much as and inch in some locations. they are off the coast at midnight as the stars reappear. that low will redevelop east of boston, that will help syphon the strong arctic polar winds in from the north. we are talking temperatures 10
