good morning, it is 6:00 a.m. on this saturday, february 21. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news." triple threat, snow, freezing rain and rain are on the slate for the region. we'll have complete details on what you can expect for old man winter. a home in delaware is fully engulfed in flames overnight and they are dancing the entire weekend away in happy valley for a great cause, for the kids. meteorologist chris sowers joins us with a look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. this is a weekend you want to be dancing inside. >> reporter: at least today it's more like a quadruple threat. we have record cold right now and snow and sleet and rain. there's the view of philadelphia international airport. all is quiet. we have clear conditions throughout the area, but the clouds are moving in from the as well as, lancaster starting to pick up the clouds now. records in jeopardy. these are some of the numbers to watch. trenton, 6 degrees wilmington, the record is 6.

same number for dover, atlantic city the record low is 3 degrees which we've already broken we're down to 2 degrees below zero at atlantic city that's at the airport. 4 below in millville. these are actual air temperatures. 2 in allentown, 5 in trenton. dover, looks like you set a new record low. that's four. philadelphia, 12 reading 5 lancaster down to 8. the record cold is in place. here comes the moisture area of low pressure. it will skirt on quickly it will run the mason dixon line west to east. it will bring a shield of snow by afternoon. region by region here's what to expect, by the midday hour, it will begin as snow for the far western suburbs. it will come down about an inch tail light. it will do a number on the visibility. mixing is possible. overnight tonight we have the possibility of a little bit of rain before ending tomorrow

morning. the i-95 corridor, snow in the afternoon, it will switch over to sleet own freezing rain. jersey shore most of south jersey get into deep areas of south jersey, cumberland and cape may counties, brief snow to wintery mix and over to a cold rain by later this afternoon and evening. i'll have more on the timing and the snowfall amounts when i come back in ten minutes. >> residents and businesses across the delaware and lehigh valleys are preparing for another punch from old man winter. john rollins found out you can cash in on any snowfall. >> reporter: two sunshines, let it snow and we have ice melt and shovels and de-icers and other coping cold stuff like fire logs. in short supplies in many pieces, space heaters. a 4th generation harold ware

midnight in the 400 block of west lehigh avenue. both drivers were taken to temple university hospital. no word yet who or what caused that wreck. overnight america's new secretary of defense avid in afghanistan. ash carter touched down in kabul meeting with the troopers an leaders. carter is gauging whether afghanistan troops can handle that. if they can not, he may change plans for withdrawing all u.s. troops from afghanistan at the end of 2016. the government is plan to go challenge a judge's ruling that temporarily blocked part of president obama's immigration reform. dozens of states oppose the plan to allow millions of immigrants to stay and work in the u.s. the texas judge agreed with the states and claimed the president overstepped his authority. the justice department will file an appeal in a new orleans court

claim he did not. >> a 1,000-dollar reward is posted in a vandalism case in chester county. the graffiti has been removed. anyone with a tip call police or the school itself. soon the name trump could be stripped from the atlantic city skyline. a judge has ruled that donald trump and his daughter ivanka can move forward with a lawsuit to take their name off the taj mahal. trump entertainment has allowed the casino to fall into disrepair and that damages their brand. he has no involvement with the casino for years. thon is underway in happy valley. 15,000 people have packed into the bryce jordon center for the annual event for a good cause. chad -- chad perdelli was in the

thick of it and filed this report. >> reporter: the 46 hour journey is underway. it's a college experience they will cherish and never forget. it's a yearlong culmination of fundraising for pediatric carnals. >> when you think about what thon is and what the organization does. >> reporter: this is the way to give back to the families. >> reporter: families like the wag norse. in 2012, 14-year-old britany was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. she is a brave young girl whose spirits are high thanks to the students and the money raised for hershey hospital. >> it's so great what they are doing i love them all so much. >> financially i don't know where we would be without four diamonds. that has saved us from probably losing our house. >> reporter: cherokee high school graduate and penn state

senior will be dancing for the first time. she is overwhelmed with excitement and thon has a special meaning for her and her family her father died of kidney cancer. >> my father paralleled away in april i'm so proud to stand here and honor his memory today. i know he is here to give me the strengthen e strength i need to stand. >> reporter: they are on the way to $115 million. last year, $1.3 million was raised. this year they will right to break that record. chad perdelli channel 6 "action news." >> haverford high school had their own version of thon last night. students danced for five hours. they raised money to help fight pediatric cancer. thin supply, you have to wait to give into that girl

there are four locations that set new record lows. warrington 6 chester, center city 10 degrees. glassboro, 4. hammonton, minus 3. seaville minus 3. 20 on the boardwalk in atlantic city. 3 below a few miles inland. because the temperatures is in the 30s you're feeling the ocean influence. it's keeping you milder on the boards. minus 2 in atlantic city, with the i understand feels like 3 degrees in philadelphia. 1 below in wilmington. 6 below right now that's the windchill down in dover. the satellite and and the radar. we have an area of low pressure right here pushing through the ohio and tennessee valleys. you can see the snows breaking out on the northern end. this is double scan live as we set it in motion, you can see the colors we have the lighter shades of gray ahead of this. in the main batch you see how the bright white color gets. the brighter the white gets, the

faster the snow is falling. the darker the colors are the heavier the snow falling. by 4:30 this is coming down heavily. the national weather service is suggesting we could see snow bands 1 inch an hour. that will greatly reduce the vis abbott out -- visibility out there. this will change over to a mix of sleet and freezing rain. 8:00 9:00, it's doing a mixing of sleet and freezing rain. the exception would be the northern portions of the lehigh valley and the poconos. sunday, clouds breaking for sunshine temperatures getting back up into the 40s more seasonable leaves only to see another cold shot slap us in the face monday afternoon. this afternoon snow coming down heavy at times. probably beginning around midday because it's brutally cold everything is frozen.

that means everything will stick. expect slow travel and low visibilities at times. we could see snowfall rates as heavy as an inch per hour. the storm impacts nothing going on this morning. minor impacts later in the day as the snow begins to fall and picks up in intensity. i see major delays later this afternoon. slow it down out there. snowfall amounts 4 to 6 well north and west, 2 to 4 along the i-95 corridor and 1 to 2 south jersey cumberland, cape may and south jersey and kent county in delaware. cloudy this morning, snow developing later this afternoon. 33 degrees that's the forecasted high. a little deceiving that will come late in the day. wind shifting out of the south at 10 to 15 miles per hour. overnight tonight snow to ice to rain. very slippery conditions during the evening hours. 25 degrees north and west, 31 for center city. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast we're up to

childhood cancer. chad perdelli is there he'll have reports all weekend, chris sowers has an update on the snow we're getting today. >> reporter: notice and record cold temperatures, the white stuff starts flying around midday west of the city and marches east into south jersey as the day wears on. storm tracker 6 live double scan heavy snow across the ohio valley. this blue color is a mix of sleet and freezing rain. you go to the south places like nashville, bowling green kentucky you're picking up the rain. this will be snow at least to start. look at the temperatures, we're down to 14 in richmond, raleigh north carolina, 15 degrees, that cold air in in place. that means the moisture will fall in the form of snow. we'll see mixing in the areas to the south. it will go over to rain, in the lehigh valley you'll see a longer duration event here. snow developing in time city. 33 degrees winds shifting out of

shallower waters, like the schuylkill and the inland bays, whenever you get thunks of ice on the delaware river you know it's cold. look at the airplane terms. we're three below in millville. we dropped to 5 below new record low for dover. they dropped to 5. they are at 6. trenton, 5 degrees allentown 2. poconos 6. reading, 4. philadelphia a somewhat milder 12. you can thank the urban heat island effect for that. the heat in the buildings. it's bone-chilling cold. winter storm warning goes into effect midday for accumulating snow. these are the areas here that will see the heaviest amounts. winlts -- winter weather advisory in effect. expect slippery conditions outs there. allow yourself extra time if you're traveling this afternoon. storm tracker 6 live double scan

there's that shield of might to the west. it moves east as the day wears on. forecast for today clouds, maybe a sliver of sunshine this morning, otherwise it's cloudy with snow developing later this afternoon. our forecasted high is a deceiving 33 degrees that will come very late in the day probably toward the evening hours. when i come back in just a few minutes, i'll talk about the timing and of course i'll have the snowfall accumulations for your neighborhood straight ahead in ten minutes. crews were forced to work in the cold to fix a waters line leak that spilled on to the street caused an icy mess. working in these conditions isn't easy. >> we're all bundled up and basically being able to handle it but my toes are freezing, i have to get in the truck every now and then to warm them up. >> many we spoke to said this is the coldest weather they can

tioga nicetown section. police say the victim is a man in his 20s. investigators say he was sitting in his car on the 1500 block of west bullet leisure street when he was shot with an assault rifle. he was taken to temple university hospital where he later died. one man is in custody in connection with the stabbing death of niki minaj tour manager. argued wednesday morning devon picket was killed and his friends was critically injured. one person is in custody. police are searching for two other men. >> both of the party's knew a female that worked at the bar and the argument centered around her. pick was in town for rehearsal for an upcoming european tour. police are looking for are a camden man in the death of a

34-year-old last month. the shooting happened january 24 on the 4200 block of mcalster street. he is considered armed and dangerous. penn state university is facing sanctions for hazing. the universities received an anonymous letter that members of the fraternity was hazed. the suspension ends in a week. the lawyer for imprisoned jerry sandusky is facing legal troubles of his own. he is accused of stealing $535,000 from three clients. he is disbackyards -- disbarred and ready to take the

weather out there for a couple of years. they had three snowplows for the entire town. they picked up 10 1/2 inches of snow. the folks are still off from school. it's four days and temperatures are below freezing. they have real problems. fortunately we are better equipped for that kind of weather. we'll not have any issues like that. there's the view in cape may. you can seem the ice getting closer to the beach here. shows you how cold it's been in our neck of the woods. if you want any relief, can't head to florida. take a look at the low temperatures, yesterday morning tallahassee, 24 degrees, pensacola, gainsville 26. that's cold orange juice. miami down to 43 degrees. you have to go out west to california to see comfortable temperatures readings where they are in the 70s and 80s. nice out west, bitter cold in the east.

dewpoint, 1, winds out of the south-southeast. minus 3 in millville. allentown, 2. poconos # -- 6 degrees with a windchill # 2 above. minus 2 in atlantic city. here comes the moisture you can see it across the ohio and tennessee valleys. white representing the snow, green the rain. you get the shades of blue that's the mix of sleet and freezing rain. it's cold, temperatures are well below freezing, so initially as this moves in, it will start in the form of snow, probably around 1:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m. snow breaking out for everyone. even down here on the coast you'll start out as snow, but you'll go over to a mixture of sleet and freezing rain. during the afternoon and evening we see the mix of sleet and rain line push toward the snort.

10:00 p.m. still noticing in the lehigh valley and the poconos. we'll see sleet freezing rain and snow in this area shaded in blue. it's rain from the city to points south and east. by tomorrow afternoon we're in the upper 40s. it will feel balmy. the snow begins late in the afternoon and at night. it will be at its heavy err -- heaviest and mix with sleet and freezing rain. the rain line moves toward the north. it ends as a few rain showers sunday morning. snow totals this is what it looks like. we have a storm where all models are in agreement. in the lehigh valley all the forecast models are in agreement. general snowfall for the lehigh valley will range anywhere from 4 to 6. you put it together, this is what it looks like here when all is said and done. 4 to 6 north and west. allentown, reading poconos.
