snowplows worked other time to clear the roadways. as quickly as they pushed it aside more fell in its place. heavy snow fell across the areas and ot on its heels is ice sleet and freezing rain. saturday night i'm walter perez. the big story on "action news" is storm system creating a whole lot of trouble today. snow fell until after dark in many locations and tonight it's been replaced by sleet creating a whole set of problems. team coverage of snow, sleet freezing rain. annie mccormick is live in setter city and meteorologist adam joseph and melissa magee have been tracking the system all day long. we begin with melissa over at the big board to find out what we can expect in the hours to come. melissa. >> walter, you can see on stormtracker 6 double scan radar we're dealing with varying kinds of precipitation across the delaware and lehigh valley. to north and west for poconos down to lancaster we have snow. but a large chunk of our region

11:04 pm
as we transition from snow first it goes to sleet. then you saw warm air and thick layer of cold air to refreeze rain drops then warmer air is thicker into the atmosphere and only a small little layer of cold air below freezing at the surface gets that period of freezing rain which we're dealing with right now and eventually takes a while. that warm air will win out in the entire column from the surface to where the precipitation forms and we see plain old rain. that is why we see that transition and in an -- occurring presentsly right now. as we look along the shore. 33 millville. we're slowly getting freezing point and above. it's been so cold open the ground it's going to take a little longer to kind of rid ourselves of that ice on the ground surfaces. especially that have been plowed or removed to snow. 3 in philadelphia, 33 wilmington and well below freezing points in northwestern suburbs where we're still dealing with a
