>> the snow, freezing rain and more rain frustrated drivers all day yesterday. and it proved to be a real challenge for road crews. the storm is just about over, but a threat remains. good morning 6:00 a.m. sunday february 22. plows have been on the move ahead of a possible deeper freeze. more snow and ice is on our winter-weary surfaces and that could make driving treacherous this morning. there's concerns about more ice

forming. in manayunk people walked gingerly ornlt -- on the snow. bottom line, watch out if you need to go out there, there's hidden ice everywhere. >> the tractor-trailer crash shut down the northeast extension between lansdale and mid county. lots of slushy patches icy patches. the best advice, stay home and wait it out temperatures will climb above freezing as the morning wears on. that will allow the ice and slush to melt. right now we're hovering close to the 32-degree mark. there's the view in center city. storm tracker 6 live double scan around 6:00, 7:00, south jersey changed over from heavy snow to a brief period of icing and over to rain. you can see where the mixing line is right now. it is running along i-195 north

of belmawr. we're seeing mixed precipitation south of the line. trenton, shades of blue, sleet and freezing rain. the shades of green rain. glassboro, woodstown malaga, reporting light to moderate rain. as we set it in motion, you can see we are on the tail end of this thing. we're not expecting precipitation to fall over the next several hours. maybe another hour at best and it will work out to sea. eventually clouds break for sunshine in the afternoon. looks like a decent day the morning will be rather slippery out there. here's a look at the driving conditions this morning, slow it down. you already see driving into work i saw reduced speeds on the main roads. you can see the signs flashing there. stay under the speed limit if possible. icy patches. lots of ponding and we're seeing the slush clog the drains and therefore we are getting deep

ponding on roads, as well. we're well below freezing north and west. 25 in fleetwood. pottstown, 29. martins creek 29. south and east we're above freezing. buena, 3 #. glassboro, 38. seaville, 35 and hammonton 32 degrees. for today, it's going to be a damp start we'll see rain the next hour or two later on it's clouds and sunshine, 42 degrees, temperatures crash overnight tonight, that leads to problems tomorrow morning in the form of a refreeze i'll talk about that in ten minutes. guys? >> the latest winter storm has landed another hard punch. snow and freezing rain after days of record cold in parts of the area. >> the plain rain came down on top of roads and sidewalks caked in snow and ice and that's leading to concerns of more slick spots this morning. driving on the schuylkill

expressway, near the green lane exit there that part of the schuylkill expressway looks good, but especially the secondary roads are a much different condition much more ice and snow still on them, so be careful as you head out this morning. >> there are concerns this morning about refreeze on area roads after yesterday's storm. penndot crews tried to keep up with the quick accumulations on the roads. the situation also made it more difficult to prepare for the residual storm. >> we had salt out there from last week's storm. if we were to brine with the temperatures of the roadways. >> the snowfall did have one possible. students from drexel university used makeshift sleds to slide down the infamous steps. >> the snow and rain was turning short trips into

treacherous commutes. kenneth moten talked to drivers in the suburbs and has a warning to pass along. >> reporter: major roads were snow covered and unrecognizable and a mess. >> very slick. >> reporter: route 202 in chester in montgomery was one big rain as drivers worked to navigate the treacherous condition. hundreds of salt and plow trucks were on duty trying to stay on top of what mother nature was dropping on the roads. >> it's not too good, in the jeep it's fine, but in a front-wheel drive car it's not good. >> reporter: speed limits were dropped on allstate roads like the schuylkill expressway. it was slow going on major thorough row fairs like city avenue. >> it took me a half-hour to get somewhere where it should have taken ten minutes. >> we were going up to north

wales. >> reporter: what was it like? >> stake it nice and slow, a couple of cars spun out. >> reporter: the workers at king of prussia ski shop buckmans tried to make the best of it. this is not the poconos it's parking lot. penndot said the truck will be working into sunday. for west chester resident, he wants a clear path to the airport, he is heading to the caribbean. >> enough snow and cold time to go someplace warm. you're done with it. >> reporter: i'm done. after the rain, came a new set of road crews. department of transportation is sending out a warning for those out and about crews are doing what they can but drivers need to remain vigilant. kenneth moten channel 6 "action news." >> in delaware, the action cam spotted a caravan of plow trucks

>> reporter: welcome back everyone time 6:11 you're looking live at the center city skyline. you can see lots of low-level clouds. visibility issues slush concerns on the roads. allow yourself extra time this morning and take it slow out there, try to stay under the speed limit if you're traveling. storm tracker 6 live double scan we flipped over to rain and ice. we are dealing a little bit of

wintry mix to the north. trenton area, the shades of blue representing the sleet and freezing rain. you get south of 195 it changes over to plain rain. let's go farther to the south we'll get into south jersey places like elmer salem county, glassboro, swedesboro, reporting light rain. that's the tail end. chester, montgomery counties we're seeing the drying process. another hour sore across south jersey and most of that should shut off. the relevant day is dry with clouds and sunshine. snowfall totals 4 1/2 before i flipped over to the ice. pike creek, 6 point 4. minute sin son 6 -- cinnaminson, 6 inches of snow. mantua, 6 inches of snow, new castle 6 inches.

generally speaking this storm behaved. lancaster, 30, philadelphia, wilmington, and millville all showing 33. so each of these locations about a degree above freezing which is good news meaning we'll melt the ice. trenton, 32, atlantic city at the airport, 35. visibility a big concern we're down to 1.3 in wilmington. about 1 1/2 in millville. 3 miles in philadelphia and allentown four miles. going wider, the big story over the next 24 hours, will be the slightly milder air we'll make it into the upper 30s low 40s. we'll crash overnight tonight. 15 in buffalo, 29 in pittsburgh. teens across the great lakes. this is another arctic front that will come sliding through during the afternoon hours that's when the temperatures

fall off a cliff again. satellite and radar. that will start to pull away. this is a decent looking day with clouds and sunshine. slick spots this morning but by afternoon everything should be all right with drying conditions. if you're traveling over the next 24 howrs. again -- hours again expect delays this morning, we see slush on roads icy patches because of the storm drains are clogged we're seeing ponding that's creating issues. we expect the roads to dry we could see icy patches developing with the refreeze by this time tomorrow, you may want to allow yourself extra time today. a damp start, clouds and sunshine, 42 degrees that's the forecasted high. wind out of the northwest at 5 to 10. overnight tonight, look out for the refreeze it will create the icy patches. look at the numbers 150 degrees across the western -- 15 degrees across the western suburbs, mid to upper teens, center city,

they can carried out an attack on a mall in nairobi kenya that left 60 people dead. governor christie is spending time at the governor's association national meeting trying to raise money. analysts say christy has trouble competing with jeb bush. members say they are confident they will have the money to compete in the race. >> thousands of people in the area will be in center city to celebrate the chinese new year. this is the way it looked in center city, last year during the annual festivities. the philadelphia son's association will hold the chinese parade. colorful costumes will wind their way up and down 9th and 10th street on the north side of market. expect delays if you're driving in that area.

>> reporter: welcome back everyone, 6:24 sunday morning double scan live is showing the moisture is coming to an end. roads are a mess out there north and west of the city. we're seeing temperatures close to freezing if not a few degrees below. we have icy patches and slush on the roads off ranches bridges overpasses a sheet of ice. take it easy out there. across south jersey, it's a little bit easier of a commute. rain across moth south jersey and -- most of south jersey and delaware. picking up moisture in new jersey, and snowing in manhattan. we'll see a nice improvement later this afternoon with sunshine. temperatures could make it up into the low 40s. look out for the morning slush.

mobile 6 is live on the schuylkill expressway. there are some treacherous slick spots out there. mobile 6 doing okay right now. road crews are working to treat the highways and byways, but you need to be careful as you head out this morning. >> mcdade boulevard in the area still had plenty of slush and ice on it early this morning. crews have been busy all night trying to clear the wintry mix off the streets and parking lot. i had to take a different route in this morning but i was told

most of the secondary roads are messy. >> reporter: we have slush and icy patches and now that the rain is falling on to top of that it's making conditions worse. allow yourself extra time to get where you have to go. in the meantime that's the ben franklin bridge. we'll get into the 40s we'll get up to 42 degrees, give or take, clouds and sunshine. it's the morning where things will be tricky where we could see leftover ice. we're seeing it actually, up by trenton. we'll zoom in there first. this is double scan live, jackson mills reporting light rain and dreet and farther to the south trenton going -- to plain rain. may also landing light to -- mays landing light to moderate

bridges, overpasses and in the morning hours there will be icy patches. there are areas of fog developing, it's thick arena dense, that's inhibiting the visibility. clouds and sun give way to sun this afternoon testers -- temperatures rising from 38 to 40 degrees. an improving situation as the day goes on, but this morning a little tricky. >> in the lehigh valley, drivers had to deal with build up on the roads. one guy with the plow had a rough night. the action cam in cherry hill, the plow was slipping and sliding in the parking lot of the whole foods. drivers if philadelphia struggled to handle the snow and snow and ice mix. annie mccormick has more. >> reporter: parts of 76

eastbound heading into philadelphia were snow covered by mid evening. minor accidents like this one slowed traffic as drivers creeped by, penndot worked to keep up. small cars struggled to get up hill. vehicles negotiated the oxford circle covered with snow. >> we have 250 trucks on the streets. >> reporter: the quick accumulation made it tough for philadelphia streets compartment to keep up, and the record low temperatures made it hard to prepare. >> we had plenty of residual salt out there from last week's storm. if we were to brine, with the temperatures of the roads and air temperatures it will be a worse problem. >> reporter: some of the septa's buses were suspended or detoured. the snow called for a tradition

heading toward philadelphia from king of prussia. you get on the secondary roads bridges, off ramps, they are slick we're seeing slush from icy pamplets out there. -- patches out there. because of the slush the storm drains are clogged and we're seeing ponding out there, as well. everybody west of the delaware river is starting to clear out and dry out. south jersey is seeing light rain from glassboro south to fortescue and millville. hammonton, reporting moderate rain, but all that wintry mix and sleet and freezing rain and snow that's up to the north central and northern new jersey pushing into manhattan. that's the tail end. that will swing through in the next half-hour, 45 minutes give or take, later this afternoon it's cloud and sunshine. it promises to be a nice day around here. look at the 24 hour temperature change. we're anywhere from 19 to as much as 37 degrees warmer right

now than we were yesterday at this time. the funny thing about all this is we're still below freezing north and west. imagine how cold was the yesterday at this time. you were 22 degrees warmer yesterday at this time, you were 27. reading, 27. philadelphia, 33. poconos 26. your travel trouble spots are mainly north and west of the delaware river this morning because we're seeing the cold temperatures and the icy conditions, but improving conditions across south jersey and delaware. snowfall totals, generally range between 4 and 7 inches across south jersey and new castle county delaware, and chester and southeastern pennsylvania. 1.3 in philadelphia. 1.7 in millville and half mile in reading. a lot of moisture is shutting off, the visibility will increase as it puzzle away --

in to help with her care. >> i'm already tired, we were here around 5:00. we're having a great time dancing around, hanging out with them. >> can you dance? >> give us a wiggle. there you got moves. >> reporter: as the hours pass fatigue and cramping set in, so people do what they can with stretching to keep themselves loose. others are biding their time, some are playing cards, of course these kids have to stay nourished. there are food stands set up and get food and drink and keep the energy up. >> do you have they have ideas how much time has passed? >> i don't want to know. >> reporter: the 46 hour journey continues for the students for some of these families will be longer. thon and penn state are doing what they can to help. >> it's great to see them
