york city. on martin luther king day this year, 7,000 people marched on the city. it was the launch of a local coalition called mlk dare. 50 yeeshz later after selma we're still marching for justice and jobs and education. it's the goal of mlk dare to fight for improvement in all areas like call for equity in state education funding. the budget cuts over the last four years have disprorgs -- displorgs -- disproportionatepry affected black students. the police are more interested in predicting one another than predicting the community that pays them that's the problem. how to deal with the issue of

mistrust. building trust between the police and the community is the goal of president obama's task force on policing. we'll take a look at use of force policy we talk about the issue of oversight. police chief charles ramsey is the co-chair. there's been no more serious time and serious focus and opportunity than right now to take on this issue. the task force will present his recommendations to the president on march 2. ramsey said they have 6 main areas to focus energy the safety of officers an police training and education. joint education opportunities with police and community together. there's much work ahead. if the world will become a better place it will be because everyone not just people on the streets, but people vested in the system decide things have to

change and we have to have a shift in culture and attitude. the coalition is working out details, but planning a major public demonstration around the issue of minimum wage. april 4th is the anniversary of martin luther king assassination. now the subject of economic empowerment in the african-american community. willing will talked to -- sharrie williams talked to entrepreneurs keeping in touch with loved ones behind bars. it's called connect inmate where families can send letters and pictures to family members who are incarcerated. this was a person mission for pink elephant. why did you start it. i dealt with my father and my he has been in prison basically his

whole life. he wasn't released until i was 17. it was a big push for us to communicate. so her partners collaborated on a system to sending a letter of convenient digital process right on your smart phone. you would write write a letter e how you send a text message to your friends. connect inmate will handle all the fulfillment the printing and handling of the letters to the prison. letters are a 1.50, pictures were not 50. this app has brought appeal. >> kids on cell phones and hitech there's no reason not to be connected with their loved ones in prison. we have 19,000 downloads on iphone and 17,000 on android we started mid october. the developers of the app say they are not promoting bad

executive who was poised to help the digital divide for people of color. brigette is a private cable company in 1977. it was started by beau daniel who is in my father. we have affordable technology and cable services for communities that are underserved. daniel recently developed a stem based digital education program to help children learn in the home. ed iq is an initiative that's involving around android tablets that go into the home parents can buy content and offer it to their families. and daniel is not stopping there. she also seeking to close the digital gap for minority women.

welcome back to vision 2015 and our celebration of black history months we're in lance down. it's a west african eatery thats opening i up in west philadelph. kenneth moten takes us on a tasting tour. our first stop is kilimanjaro. most of the time we look at our food inside we're like an island. to the point we cook a lot of fish we cook lamb and reveal. the other than learned how to cook from her mother what she was only 1. yoking to school to learn how to

and the restaurant in landsdown, pennsylvania. the new exhibition at the philadelphia museum of art is celebrating 200 years african american artwork. the exhibition represent is a look at the african-american experience through art. i features more than 75 works by more than 50 artist. this includes works by artists like henry cantor. beginning with works of alter from enslaved african americans it includes the harlem renaissance. >> we have art from the 40s and 50s and 60s, black artist explod

abstract alter. all the artwork comes from the museum's permanent collection. this piece is henry tanner's it shows the commitment that the city had of supporting african accident. the collection is a small part of a larger catalogue which includes four major essays that touch on a variety of different thinks. i hope people see the broad spectrum of african-american production. the legacy is deep in the city and deep in this institution. you know the art museum is one of philly's most historic venues. head to the uptown theater that's been part of the culture since 1929 when it opened its
