sy ross bridge. it is monday afternoon. i'm brian taff. >> and i'm shirleen allicott. the big story on "action news" is the fiery crash that sent fire shooting into the sky in camden county. sarah bloomquist is live in pennsauken and sarah there's still a real mess on the roads. >> reporter: yeah, there is, brian and shirleen. we're here on windham road in the adjacent neighborhood. you can see houses on either side and right in their backyards that's where the charred wreckage of this overturned tanker remains. you can also see the blackened hillside along the exit ramp where the tanker overturned and burst into flames this morning it was around 11 o'clock this morning when this tanker truck overturned and burst into flames on the route 90 exit ramp to route route 130 near the betsy ross bridge in pennsauken new jersey. neighbors heard explosions. >> it was a heck of a way to wake up, i tell you that. so i'm in that building right there and i hear explosions,

like five or six explosions. >> reporter: authorities say the driver who was traveling alone was able to get out of the vehicle. no other cars or trucks were involved. firefighters started dousing the tanker with foam around noon and it appeared to be out but then reignited. some neighbors stayed in their homes even as black dark thick smoke moved their way. then officials told them to come out. >> everyone needs to get out here. they probably saw me in the window looking over there and they were like everyone needs to get out so were digit by 12:30 the flames were under control but the pavement were badly burned even melted away. for people who live nearby this was all too close for comfort. >> very close, very close sir. >> reporter: and as we look back live firefighters are up there but at the moment they don't seem to be doing new jersey terms of removing away what's left. if you can say that of that

tanker truck the burned out remains of that tappinger truck up there so it's likely to remain closed for quite some time. the tanker driver and the firefighter were both admitted to the hospital for undisclosed injuries not believed to be serious injuries. neighbors were allowed back in their homes by about 2 o'clock this afternoon. live in pennsauken, sarah bloomquist, channel6 "action news." >> sarah thank you very much. we have been covering this fiery crash for you all day long on 6abc.com. right now get a look at photos and video of the fire from chopper 6. the action cam and from you our "action news" viewers we'll also keep you up to date with the latest information as developments continue today. >> developing right now police in allentown shot and killed a suspect who they say stabbed a woman an police officer this morning. he also led police on a chase through lehigh county. john rawlins is live now at the state police barracks in bethlehem where we just got an update on this investigation.

john. >> reporter: hi, shirleen. two people were stabbed today a five year veteran of the police department as well as a female residents of whitehall township. both expected to recover. dead is the female victim's former boyfriend who was pursued by police early this morning. they say he attacked the officer with a kitchen knife. two other officers then shot him. all this was apparently caught on videotape provided by the state police. d.a. robert martin from lehigh county says he's seen that videotape. >> it's pretty clear to me that the officer was under attack with a large knife. he was stabbed multiple times certainly under those circumstances the force that was utilized is in my opinion justified. >> reporter: the deadly incident ended in a hail of bullets in this industrial zone in east allentown. suspect jerome nicholls was shot after authorities say he repeatedly stabbed the police officer. police chased nichols in his

dark ford colorer after he allegedly broke into this house and stabbed his former girlfriend. neighbor jennifer brown heard the attacks shortly after 3:00 this morning. >> i hardy lot of screaming help me, help me and banging on the floor. so i instantly went over to the wall and banged on the wall and said i'm calling 911. >> reporter: neighbors say brown and the victim has been couple for several years hadn't lived at this address until the victim ended the relationship a short time ago. >> this couple once had a relationship and ended it. it was ended after least several weeks ago and i think it's fair to say that we believe that the entry to the home of the stabbing victim, the female stabbing victim, was not consentual. >> reporter: apparently the

couple had lived at that house for several years as a couple. they had lived there neighbors said though, they were frequently heard to be arguing and that police, the whitehall police were frequently called to that location because of domestic issues at that place. live in bethlehem township, john rawlins, channel6 "action news." shirleen. >> all right, thank you, john. meanwhile in bucks county, police say they have two people in custody after a burglary turned into a standoff at a gun shop. this started around 2:30 this morning at mike's gun shop and sporting goods on levittown parkway in tullytown. police say the suspects got in through the roof. swat teams surrounded the building and one suspect gave up just before 8:00 a.m. police arrested the second suspect about two hours later. the standoff affected the entire area especially nearby schools. walter perez will have more on that in a live report at 5:00. >> a little chilly, quite a bit windy but beautifully sunny out there. because of that we won't complain one bit.

>> i know. hello, sun. let's go outside to meteorologist adam joseph who is basking in it for a little bit. >> only if the sun could be a little stronger this afternoon but again, we can't complain after what we went through this past weekend. as we look at the numbers in the midatlantic in philadelphia right now 26 degrees. we should sit around 45 degrees this time year, so 19 degrees below normal, one in new york city and look at the cold air in new england two in burlington, one in syracuse and ottawa, canada, 2 degrees below zero. we're still dealing with a healthy wind out of the north-northwest between 15 and around 20 miles an hour and that will create wind chills this evening still dipping in allentown around 10 below zero and just north of philadelphia, reading and trenton and down to atlantic city about five to 10 degrees below zero and philadelphia down to the south wilmington dover and millville between zero and five below. that's this evening. now, the good news is the winds are going to relax overnight tonight so we're not talking wind chills but we're

chad. >> reporter: shirleen, apparently it had to do with a woman but here's -- this is the second workplace shooting here in our area within the past week. this morning's happened right there at shield's business solutions according to moorestown police, the man was inside, he was -- he worked here, he pulled out a gun opened fire on his coworker then turned the gun on himself. a state police helicopter airlifted the have you can tim nieves to the hospital. after 7:00 a.m. nieves and edgar figueroa were getting trod begin their shift when figueroa opened fire on his coworker striking himself times. >> we're being told by witnesses that mr. figueroa came up behind him as they were leaving the building and tried shoot him in the head and mr. nieves jerked at the last moment fortunately and the last bullet grazed him. he was struck by were other rounds reporter: figueroa followed but then killed

himself in the rear of the property. sources say the shooting was the result of a love triangle. shields' business solutions provides atm and armored car services. the company release add statement that reads in part an unspeakable tragedy unfold here this morning and first and foremost we would like the families of those involved to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them. police say many of the security officers at shields supply their own personal weapons for protection on the job. but it's unclear what sort of background check or other measures were implemented by the company. >> we've dealt with shields in the past and they're definitely an upstanding company and they do do their due diligence. >> reporter: and at last check that victim remains after cooper hospital in critical condition. i'm live in moorestown, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> all right chad, thank you. police are asking for your help to find the man who robbed a pair of metro pcs stores in philadelphia. the first happened back on

february 5th in brewerytown. police say the suspect walked into the store on west girard avenue, pulled a gun took money from the register and ran off. then they think the same man hit another store on cecil b. moore avenue just four days later. police are asking anyone who recognizes him to call them. >> demolition crews started tearing down a west philadelphia building that was covered in ice for most of the last week. chopper 6 hd flew over the intersection of 52nd and locust today where work was already going on. city officials said the demolition will have lanes shut down there for about one week. now, here's what the building looked like exactly a week ago today. firefighters poured water on it to put out the flames but the cold temperatures turned that building into a literal ice cube. the good news here is that no one was hurt. >> and it's time now for your "action news" traffic report on a monday afternoon. >> it is monday. matt pelman standing by in the "action news" traffic center. how are we doing. >> and doesn't it feel like it? >> good afternoon brian and shirleen. it is a monday. speaking of ice we're watching all sorts of slip pee repatches around the region. this afternoon we're watching that overturned tanker truck in pennsauken that sara bloomquist was telling us about. the truck overturned a little bit after 11:00 today coming away from the betsy ross bridge and so two ramps remain shut down. we're hearing likely until tomorrow morning. they're the ramps connecting 90 eastbound coming away from the betsy ross bridge with the northbound lanes of 130. all traffic coming all right bridge is being diverted onto union avenue but if i were you i would stay away from the mess and stay a bit to the north on the tacony palmyra bridge. chance it. you know there, could be an opening later on. none scheduled right now but stick with the tacony palmyra and from there you can get to 130 if that's where you're trying head. elsewhere in south jersey galloway township atlantic county a crash along the garden state parkway northbound at route 30 take out the right lane and several in new castle county. there's one on the ramp from 13 southbound to 141 southbound. one in christiana along 273

westbound after highway 1 taking out the right lane and bear watch out for a crash along route 40 pulaski highway at route seven. along 95 in the great northeast a crash on the southbound side approaching cottman mostly off to the side in the work zone. let's grab the ipod do the commuter report. one of our commuter team members warning us 295 southbound in mount laurel watch out for it. we'll watch out for more issues shirleen in the next half hour. >> sounds g thank you matt. it is the day after the oscars but hollywood is still buzzing after its biggest night. today kelly and michael hosted their annual day after show from hollywood and our alicia vitarelli was there. >> we're here on hollywood boulevard and as you can see behind us, they're tearing things up, the red carpet has been ripped up and they're pack it up. but inside the dolby theater the stage is still very much set for this morning's big show with kelly and michael. and it's still aglow in oscar glory. the "dancing with the stars"

fines. >> a terror group has released a new video calling for attacks on shopping malls in the u.s., canada and great britain. al-shabaab is an al-qaeda affiliate. the group says it will specifically target the country's biggest mall the mall of america in minnesota. u.s. officials say they are specifically concerned because al-shabaab has been effective recruiting somali immigrants in the twin cities. al-shabaab is the same group that attacked a mall in kenya back in 2013. >> there is once again a renewed push in harrisburg to privatize liquor stores in pennsylvania. state lawmakers voted to advance the bill today that would sell off nearly 500 state stores t the bill is similar to one that passed in 2013 and later stalled. this bill would not shut the stores immediately but rather would phase them out and allow some in rural areas of the state to stay opened. republicans say the bill could generate $1 billion in license fees. it is not clear at this point if democrats would support it.

the phillies full team is now together in florida. position players reported to spring training today joining the pitchers and catchers who got there last week. jeff skversky live in clearwater florida where ryan howard chase utley and the rest of the gang settled in for what should be a pretty nice spring there jeff. >> reporter: yeah, brian chase utley knows what everyone is saying about this philadelphia phillies baseball team but utley says don't count us out just yet. he plans to be a little bit more of a vocal leader this year with jimmy rollins gone. let's say hello to ryan howard. there he is, the phillies big first baseman area flies camp today with a big smile on his face. but with a smaller frame. that is right. howard look like he lost a little weight in the off season a fact manager ryne sandberg says howard looks as good as he's seen him in years. howard not too chatty but he does tell channel 6 that he plans to let his play do the talking after having one of

for now jeff skversky channel6 "action news." >> jeff thanks very much. as we now turn to the weather here at home, blue skies, green grass in clearwater flash flood at least we have blue skies. >> we had a very interesting weekend if you will. let's go to adam joseph. at least it's any other a bad monday after all that of. >> no, lot of sunshine today. if only that sun could warm us up as we are taking a live look right now. reality hits when you see the ice chunks along the delaware river and they will stick around this week as temperatures stay well below normal. let's look at the numbers. right now just 26 in philadelphia, the normal should be in the middle 40's this time of year. 20 in allentown. 28 in dover, 27 the atlantic city airport. and even low 20's out in lancaster county and we're dealing with a wind out of the north-northwest and that's keeping wind chills at the present time in the single digits north and west, teens i-95 all points to the shore where wildwood it feels like 19 degrees. now winds going to calm as we

go dear into the night but still at midnight and a little after wind chills remain below zero area wide so philadelphia feeling four below, 16 below allentown, two below millville. if you want a little optimism remember a week ago wind chills were between 15 and 20 degrees below zero so at least we're about 15 degrees warmer this week. as we look at that wind chill advisory through 10 o'clock in the morning it's just for the poconos and jim thorpe so carbon and monroe counties. late tonight they can drop down to about fifteen 20 below. so if you have to head that way definitely want to prepare for that. satellite and radar, the clouds pushing off the coast early this morning. pretty much displaying that sunshine this afternoon and we're going remain on the clear sky side overnight tonight and that's going to bring record cold because as those winds go calm, we will lose a lot of the so-called heat we generated today and that will drop to record lows in the suburbs and allentown six below. 3 degrees for philadelphia.

officially sworn in and then were mentored by various public officials today. 6abc general manager took part in the event at city hall. >> it was another enormous weekend in state college where penn state students danced to raise money for the fight against pediatric cancer. the annual thon event brought in more than $13 million this year. students got pretty emotional yesterday as they wrapped up that 46 hour dance marathon and learned the total the result of their hard work. money raise ready go to the four diamonds fund at penn state hershey medical center to help out patients and their families. always a great event and a great job. >> yeah. still ahead bill cosby backs out of more tour dates. the reason he's giving for backing out of of out coming up. >> we'll get back to that coverage of that massive tanker fire. another live report with how it's impacting people who live in that area. >> it's a law most people in pennsylvania break without

>> ♪♪ >> one man is dead after an ambulance an car collided this morning in south jersey. it happened just after 5:00 a.m. on the white horse pike at evesham road in magnolia. police say the man driving the car died. there was no patients in the ambulance at the time but 2emt's who were on board had to go to the hospital. police have not told us the names of anyone involved. >> bill cosby canceled another part of his tour now the embattled comedian has scrapped three shows that were set for this month. one was in boston and cosby blamed the weather there. two others in pittsburgh and

what some local lawmakers doing to change that. >> but we're going to begin with the latest on that tanker truck inferno that's still got part of a major south jersey highway shut down. it was just after 11 :00 this morning when a truck carrying 9,000 gallons of fuel flipped over on the route 90 exit ramp to route 30 in pennsauken. the tank burst into flames sending flames and thick smoke billowing in the air. the driver did manage to escape but was injured. both her and a firefighter are now recovering at the hospital. in addition to the injuries and the mess, the fiery accident forced dozens of nearby neighbors to leave their homes and that is where "action news" reporter vernon odom picks up the stormy he's got the latest details from there. vernon. >> reporter: brian, as you can see behind me, firefighters who rushed here to the scene from various municipalities including this one from merchantville, new jersey are wrapping up now in this neighborhood adjacent to route 90 where that fire erupted. they are cleaning up now. it's quiet here on this street

right now. namely, this is greenbrier street. it's adjacent to route 90's ramp where the fiery accident occurred. neighborhood witnesses describe the chaos and fear from late this morning. >> and i heard the explosion and felt it. when i looked oversaw the flames shooting up in the air imbob read witnessed the explosion as he was driving on route 130 near his home. he lives about a half mile from the site of the explosion and fire. and was in awe at its enormity. >> you couldn't see if it was a car, truck or anything. all you saw was big black smoke. when i got over here three blocks away you smelled the gas real bad. it was -- i mean, it was black over here with the smoke. >> reporter: tracy lynch lives several blocks from the fire scene. her children were safely away at school but she rushed home to see if there was any damage to her home and to make sure her dog was okay. >> but they alouded no, sir go get my dog so now i'm waiting to find out what the news is but i have two children who are in the vicinity that go to school and i need to goa --

and they get bussed and one i have to pick un. >> reporter: there was no mass evacuation but a lot of neighbors were out of their homes for awhile as the combined fire departments attacked the threatening blaze. bruce's home was the one most in harm's way. his backyard goes right up to the highway. much of it was scorched by the inferno. trees, bushes, his fence and even part of his shed. he knows it could have been so much worse. >> ashes, smoke and all that stuff everywhere. i mean, no more trees. >> reporter: it took firefighters more than an hour to get that fire under control here and ease the tensions here in pennsauken where i'm live vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> all right, vernon thank you very much. perhaps no image sums up the intensity of the flames like this. this is a live look from chopper 6 hd right now. the ramp from route 90 to route 130 near the base of the betsy ross bridge is still closed right now. traffic is being diverted onto union avenue. drivers are going to want to

we're seeing it happen to a lot of female athletes especially teenage here's play soccer or basketball. in order to be able to play at the same level again it takes surgery and rehabilitation. it is a long process and it's one that cecily is just starting. cecily isn't only into forecasting the weather she's also an avid skier and a competitive runner. so when she slid on ice three weeks ago while skiing she knew she was in trouble. >> when i felt a pop i knew this is bad. >> reporter: ski patrol at jack frost had to bring her down the mountain. boston institute's dr. robert frederick says that pop cecily describes is a classic sign of a torn acl or anterior cruciate ligament. an mri further confirmed the diagnosis. >> it's torn in its mid portion. , see a piece here and a piece up in here. >> when dr. frederick showed me the mri and said you have an acl rupture it's gone, i

think i started to cry immediately because, you know, i knew i would be outer for a long time. >> reporter: two weeks later when the swelling went down cecily had surgery. it's a common procedure where doctors drill holes into the shin and thigh bone to place a new ligament. cecily says it was tougher than expected. >> i knew it was going to be painful but i didn't know it was going to be that painful. >> a little bit more you'll be just past 70. >> reporter: cecily has dale physical therapy at excel pt but even before suffering she started doing rehab exercises to strengthen the muscles surrounding the injury. experts say it can help speed recovery. >> being stronger you won't fall back as far so if you don't fall back as far you don't -- it's not going to take you much to get back to where you were. >> reporter: still cecily knows they has a long road ahead of her.

>> six sometimes 10 the 12 months post-injury. >> reporter: for now she's leaning and others for support her friends at social media have given her the best advice to take it one day at a time. >> i know i have a long way to go. i feel like every day i'm making a step towards recovery. >> reporter: and cecily is officially back. welcoming. >> i'm so happy to be. >> reporter: how are you feeling. >> i'm he feeling really g i celebrate every victim. today i got to 90-degree bend and my doctor said tomorrow i can start swimming with a pool buoy which is a big deal. for the past almost two weeks i haven't been doing so much exercising. a lost teenagers like you were saying in your story and i love being able to talk to teens on social media or their parents who are going through this and the first advice, well beyond getting a great doctor a-great physical therapy, take time. allow your body to heal. first week is miserable.

>> you hope. the shirt comes as a colorado state senate approves the bill allowing adults without a permit to carry a concealed gun. and finally a series of photos that may just restore your faith in humanity. this is glen a six-year-old from florida who has autism and epilepsy z earlier this month his mom threw a birthday party inviting 16 kids in his class. when none showed up she turned to facebook sharing her pain. within one hour not only did 15 children glen didn't know show up at the house firefighters and police officers also started showing up and even better, not only did glen and his new friends get the superstar treatment the first responders brought presents. his parents say the kindness of strangers turned their shy little boy into one filled with joy even if it was borne from sadness. so just an incredible story there of the goodness in

people. all you got do sometimes is ask for help and there it is. >> exactly. social media has so much power to do good just like this and that was the perfect example. thank you brian. >> love that. >> let's get another check now on the roads this afternoon. matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center with an update for us. >> shirleen, police and fire crews over here in pennsauken have been very busy since about 11 o'clock this morning because of the overturned tanker truck accident on the ramps that connector route 90 with 130 northbound. the truck flipped over a blaze ensued and they're still out here working on the wreckage and the remnants of that truck. we're hearing they're going to have those ramps and route 90 eastbound blocked until tomorrow morning at least. so, this is traffic here coming off of the betsy ross bridge looking live from chopper 6 hd, the very top of your screen at the betsy ross bridge tolls and all this eastbound traffic coming into new jersey right over the betsy ross bridge -- see the stacked traffic there, it's all being forced off diverted to union avenue. they cannot proceed east on 90 over towards 73. so, let's go to the maps.

i don't think you want to get stuck in this backlog coming into new jersey. maybe stick with the ben franklin bridge and work your way over toward the airport circle via the admiral wilson boulevard to get to 130 or come over the tacony palmyra bridge and use route 73 instead of route 90 this afternoon. of course we'll keep you posted on that situation. like we said, though, we're expecting its blockages to remain in place until tomorrow morning. had several crashes in tell wear earlier this afternoon. still have a downed pole in christiana taking outer the right lane along 273 westbound right by highway 1. this is 95 in the great northeast. still have this crash in the southbound lanes approaching cottman right in the work zone. the good news is it's off to the side even though police remain on the scene. crash in west conshohocken along moore head avenue cleared out. bad one in upper hanover montgomery county taking out church road between state and third streets. maybe stick with state as an alternate around that. we'll check it again brian and shirleen, coming up at 5 o'clock. >> matt see you then. thank you. meteorologist adam joseph back with the exclusive accuweather

feels like six in allentown seven in reading, eight in lancaster. teens elsewhere. and as we go through the evening hours those wind chills will go into the negative numbers but then they'll kind of stop and then warm by tomorrow morning. satellite and radar will show any clouds now off the coast. you can see the clearing clear skies coming from the north and west. a couple high clouds this afternoon but the clear sky tonight will to its damage in the way of allowing those temperatures to really drop off. in fact, philadelphia will get near the record of two. we're going to go with 3 degrees for the city but if you take a look at allentown reading and wilmington, they will all demolish their old records. the old record in allentown four, we're forecasting six below for the air temperature tomorrow morning. five below in reading, three in wilmington and tying the record by tomorrow morning in atlantic city. 9 o'clock tonight there are the wind chills. two below in philadelphia, six below in allentown, three below in reading, zero in millville and as we go through tomorrow morning notice the

improvement with the wind chills despite how cold it's going to be, it will feel like seven in philadelphia, four in wilmington, so we're going to go from the negative numbers this evening for wind chills to the positive numbers by tomorrow morning. high pressure will be in control again tomorrow. we're going to watch a front to the north and west but another sunny day with just a few high clouds. still very cold with light winds of 24 degrees and then another arctic front will press in here on wednesday but it won't get through before the late afternoon so it turns breezy ahead of it with a mix of sun and clouds. we're going to bump it up to 38 degrees but with the breeze it's going to feel much cooler than that. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast cold tomorrow but the good side of the story, no wind at 24 degrees. we hit 38 which is still below average on wednesday but some improvement. behind that front a lot of clouds on thursday comes through dry brisk and bitter again, 26 for a high and staying 21 degrees below normal on friday.

"action news" reporter sarah bloomquist live in pennsauken in a neighborhood next to that ramp. sarah you have the latest for usism rick and monica we're here on wyndam road in the neighborhood adjacent to the exit ramp where this tanker carrying 8,000 gallons of gasoline overturned this morning. and you can see right in their backyard the blackened hillside and wreckage where this fire raged. firefighters and other work crews are up there right now. they pumped off the remaining to hundred gallons of gas if the tanker and now that the metal has schooled they can remove the wreckage which will take hours. the ramp itself is closed indefinitely. around 11 o'clock this morning a tanker truck overturned on the exit ramp from route 90 to route 130 near the betsy ross bridge. neighbors heard explosions. >> i go up to the window and i look and i look across the way and there's like a towering inferno of smoke and everything, so i watched it
