"action news" reporter sarah bloomquist live in pennsauken in a neighborhood next to that ramp. sarah you have the latest for usism rick and monica we're here on wyndam road in the neighborhood adjacent to the exit ramp where this tanker carrying 8,000 gallons of gasoline overturned this morning. and you can see right in their backyard the blackened hillside and wreckage where this fire raged. firefighters and other work crews are up there right now. they pumped off the remaining to hundred gallons of gas if the tanker and now that the metal has schooled they can remove the wreckage which will take hours. the ramp itself is closed indefinitely. around 11 o'clock this morning a tanker truck overturned on the exit ramp from route 90 to route 130 near the betsy ross bridge. neighbors heard explosions. >> i go up to the window and i look and i look across the way and there's like a towering inferno of smoke and everything, so i watched it until they finally evacuated

us. >> reporter: thick black smoke billowed down residential streets as neighbors left their homes. >> we got the nice big old cloud of it at certain points and then the wind would shift. yeah, it was quite a sight. >> reporter: somehow the driver was able to escape from the cab of the tanker. the fire raged for about an hour melting the pavement, guardrail and igniting the nearby hillside. then firefighters sprayed the inferno with foam and finally got it under control but the damage to the roadway was done. neighbors said there had been serious accidents on this bend in the road before. >> it's not the first time trucks turn over on that off-ramp all the time coming around there. >> reporter: and as we look back live you can see work under way there as they are just going to start beginning removing the wreckage now that the metal has cooled. the driver of the tanker and a firefighter were taken to the hospital for undisclosed injuries but they are not

type of trailer carrying hay ignited into flames and this is what was left. again, fire crews are on the scene. no word of any injuries but again, you see them very busy trying to take care of the hot spots of a hay fire or a trailer that was carrying hay caught fire on sykesville road in chesterfield burlington county. no reports of any injuries or what caused it. we'll keep an eye on the situation and bring you more information when we get it from chesterfield, new jersey. allentown police shot and killed a suspect who they say stabbed a woman and a police officer this morning. he also led police on a chase through lehigh county. investigators say it all began early this morning when the woman was stabbed in some type of domestic dispute in whitehall township. police spotted the suspect and led them on a pursuit. it ended in an industrial area of allentown and police say that's where the suspect stabbed a police officer here. the suspect was then shot several times by police and killed.

authorities in bucks county arrested two people involved in an overnight burglary and standoff at a gun shop in tullytown. "action news" reporter walter perez live outside of bristol if that police headquarters where the suspects were taken. walter. >> reporter: hey, rick, well just moments ago we learned the identities, 22 year old james towns and 21-year-old ashir williams two men accused of trying to rob a gun store in tullytown a-move that developed into a dramatic seven hour standoff with police. only "action news" was there as the suspects were let out after their first appearance before a judge. the two are accused of breaking into mike's gun shop in tullytown by hacking a manhole sized opening through the roof right around 2:30 this morning. the security system alerted police who quickly arrived with atf agents and a swat team. a seven hour standoff ensued. investigators eventually made entry only to discover these two would be thieves were

trying to get away by crawling through the ventilation system between the roof and the drop ceiling with the intender of escaping from the attached pizza shop next door. >> we started pulling down the ceiling. we borrowed equipment from the fire department and we just started pulling the dropped ceiling down to the point where it was inevitable that western going to find them. >> reporter: investigators made the arrests but as you can see arianna's pizza shop got absolutely trashed in the process. xavier bara who owns the pizzeria says he simply can't believe what happened. >> everything is destroyed. now it's like i feel like i lost everything, you know, because i don't know how many days we're going to be closed and i'm really sorry for all my customers that we going to be closed. hopefully we fix everything and get it back to running. >> reporter: the suspects were arraigned a short time ago on a string of charges including burglary. meanwhile xavier vera says he's happy no one was injured during this process. >> it's good, you know, to catch those guys and it's

better because that would be worse. all this can be fixed. >> reporter: now the early morning standoff forced pennsbury school officials to call for a two-hour delay for all schools within the district and nearby saint michael's school went ahead and shut down for the day but once again two arrests have been made and classes are expected to resume as normal tomorrow morning. reporting live from brift to township, walter perez channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> okay, walter thank you. we've got some breaking news. philadelphia eagle nate allen the florida state attorney's office announce the. allen was picked you would by police in for the myers last week and held for more than four hours police told him that a teenaged girl identified him as a man who was performing a lewd act while at a traffic light. allen denied any wrongdoing from the very beginning. meantime a man and a woman from chester county are behind bars after police say they

admitted to ransacking a burned out house. steven gorewitz and johnson are charged with related offenses. police say they told jewelry bikes silver and tools from a home on arlington avenue in west goshen it was vacant because of a fire that happened there back in january. the items were recovered at a pawnshop in exton. >> all right turning now to the forecast we started off today warmer but temperatures are tumbling and the arctic air is coming back. >> let's take a live look right now skies hd shows you penn's landing. if you're going out tonight anywhere across our region you really need to bundle up. meteorologist cecily tynan joins us at the "action news" big board with more on the word from record cold with accuweather. hi cecily. welcoming. >> welcome back. >> nice to be back. i was hoping i would come back with a warm and sunny forecast. >> so were we. >> that is not going happen. at least there's no snow. we had snow when i was gone. that was adam's fault. now we have cold air moving n philadelphia right now 24 degrees but if you look up to the north ottawa, it's

2 degrees below zero. quebec is six below. this air mass is going to be moving down from the north as we head through the overnight hours and even now you compare this to yesterday, yesterday we made it up into the mid 40's. dint feel nice? today we're 20 degrees colder in philadelphia and some areas up in vermont burlington currently 30 degrees colder than this time yesterday. currently the wind chill makes it feel like 11 degrees in philadelphia. feels like two in allentown. reading feels like four. feels like seven in trenton. 10 in wilmington and we will have the winds with us through the evening hours. so tonight the wind chills between about 7 o'clock and about 1 o'clock in the morning will be dropping down. zero to 5 degrees below zero around philadelphia, areas to the south the immediate northwest suburbs five to 10 degrees below zero and up across the northern lehigh valley and the poconos wind chill advisories in effect. the wind chill this evening 10 to 15 degrees below zero. the good news is in the overnight hours the winds will diminish. the problem, though, with

clear skies, snow pack and the calm winds temperatures are going to nose dive. the record low for philadelphia 2 degrees set back in 1889. we're going to be close. forecasting a low of three so probably not a record but allentown the overnight low 6 degrees below zero. that will be a record. also records in reading lancaster, wilmington and dover and i'm tracking more cold air later this week. i'll have all the details coming up in the full accuweather 7-day forecast. >> wish it were nicer for you. >> hopefully we get a leg up on this weather. substantial backlog at this point as you come over the bridge from pennsylvania into pennsauken in new jersey. i would steer clear of this mess. you can stay up on the tacony palmyra bridge work your way into palmyra and 73 southbound or use our good buddy ben the ben franklin bridge. eastbound come the headlights into camden. then hop on the admiral wilson boulevard to get over to 130. that, too is a clear shot at this point. still have the downed pole from the earlier crash in christiana along 273 westbound right at highway 1 take out the right lane with normal southbound slowing there on highway one a as you pass the mall. upper hanover a crash along church road. stick with state street. a crash on the schuylkill eastbound just past the boulevard. all that's left now is a lonely flare and no eastbound delays so we're happy about that. and we'll check in again rick and monica in the next half hour. >> all right. >> thank you. >> thank you matt. much more still ahead on "action news" at 5:00 monday night. new video from al-qaeda makes a direct call for an attack on shopping malls in the u.s., canada and great britain. we've got the latest.

>> security is beefed up at shopping males today this after a new video from one of al-qaeda's affiliates was posted online calling for a direct attack on malls in great britain can dan here in the united states. the terror group known as al-shabaab specifically targets america's biggest shopping center minnesota's mall of america. authorities are take the threat very seriously. there was a stepped up police presence and shoppers were being told to be vigilant. u.s. authorities are concerned because al-shabaab has been especially effective recruiting somali immigrants from the minneapolis saint paul area to join its ranks. >> al-shabaab has never shown a capability to operate in a structured way in western countries. but sympathizers of al-shabaab have been involved in lone wolf attacks. >> the reason i think we're all concerned about this is because it encourages

independent actors who could strike with very little notice. >> the somali terror group is the same one that took credit for an attack on mall in kenya back in 2013 that left 67 people dead. the fallout continues for comedian bill cosby after dozens of women accused him of sexual abuse. cosby has scrapped two upcoming shows in upstate new york. his performances this month in pittsburgh and north carolina were also canceled with no explanation. the comedian's tour has been under fire since november when several allegations of sexual harassment were then made. cosby has not been charged and his attorneys deny all of the accusations. >> all right. tonight's health check there may be a way to prevent many peanut allergies. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman with the details. >> this is a problem that has worried parents doctors and even teachers in recent years. peanut allergies have more than tripled among children. and we don't know exactly what's causing the increase

but an experiment shows that we may be able to prevent it. the secret is early exposure. in a study infants between four and 11 months of age with severe eczema, egg allergies or both were assigned to either eat peanut products or to avoid them. at the age of five, very few kids in the peanut group had allergies compared to those who were avoiding nuts. >> studies are great break through because it real did show that earlier introduction and continuation of peanut consumption did decrease the risk of peanut anaphylaxis significantly. >> in the past most doctors urged high risk kids those with allergies or whose parents or siblings have pet or food allergies not the eat peanuts. study leaders say parents of high risk kids should check with their doctor before introducing peanuts. also today, most americans don't use a sauna every day but experts in finland say maybe we should. they found that men who use saunas at least four times a

week lived longer and had lower rates of heart disease than once a week users. the doctors think the increased heart rate you get in a sauna mimics the effect of exercise in some ways. it may also help to reduce stress. finish doctors say the study adds to growing evidence in favor of 10 to 20 minutes a day in a sauna. sounds good to me, monica. >> sounds fabulous. thank you ali. >> a risky surgery in texas is now being hailed as a medical miracle. >> that was the reaction from parents of two conjoined twins after they learned their girls were successfully separated. the twins shared several body parts including lungs and intestines. a medical staff of 26 people an day long medical procedure helped successfully separate the little girls. the twins will be able to leave the hospital when they fully recover from the surgery. >> well, two boys at the shiply school in bryn mawr are

>> ♪♪ >> well, the price to get into disney world's theme parks has gone up. the happiest place on earth announced over the weekend that one day ticket prices are now $105 plus tax at the magic kingdom. that's up six bucks. disney's animal kingdom hollywood studios and epcot went from 94 to 97 dodges multi day ticket prices went up as well. disney of course is the parent company of 6abc. good news for online target shoppers and retailer lowered the amount you need to spend in order to get free shipping to $25. it was $50. this boosts competition with online giant amazon which offers free shipping on orders over $35.

>> there is a new proposal to combat homelessness in camden which is new jersey's poorest city. cooper university hospital hosted the announcement about housing first. now, the initiative moves the homeless quicker into permanent housing. the state provides vouchers to pay the render. cooper and the camden county freeholder s are partners in this effort. it may start as early as july. >> ♪♪

>> time for accuweather. the "action news" big board meteorologist cecily tynan back after knee surgery. welcome back. pretty nippy. >> yeah, unfortunately temperatures are dropping but it was nice we saw a lot sunshine today. we also had some pretty interesting cloud formation as. beth from mount laurel sent this on twitter. these are called kelvin helm holtz clouds. what happens when you have layers of different air temperature and wind speeds forms these little eddies. that's what was over the skies of mount laurel tonight and whenever you see something interesting out there in the skies definitely send it to me on twitter. maybe i'll put it on "action news." temperatures really the big story right now. philadelphia 24 degrees down from temperatures in the 40's yesterday. what a difference. trenton 20, millville 25. allentown dropped down to 17 and reading 20 degrees and also we have some gusty winds out of the northwest. so, the wind chill makes it feel like then wilmington, feels like 11 in philadelphia,

feels like seven in trenton feels like two in allentown and the wind chills really dropping through the evening hours. future tracker showing if you're heading out tonight you want to bundle up. dress in extra layers. at 9:30 the wind chill 3 degrees below zero in philadelphia. five below in allentown and reading. mount pocono look at that the wind chill 17 degrees below zero so the national weather service issued wind advisory for the poconos for wind chills dropping to 20 degrees below zero. winds diminishing overnight. but that opens the door for very good radiational cooling. satellite6 showing the cold front is off the coast. high pressure is building in and that high pressure will be right over us tomorrow. so as it builds in tonight temperatures are going to nose dive. overnight low down to three trees in philadelphia, that's just 1 degree off. the record low set way back in 1889 and areas like allentown likely will set a record low of 6 degrees below zero. association it's definitely

going to be a cold start to the day tomorrow. the five day at five showing tomorrow again we'll see a good amount of sunshine. it will be cold but there really won't be a winter so no real wind chill factor. it's together to feel better than this afternoon. 24 degrees. on wednesday temperatures bump up to 38 degrees, ahead of another cold front. this will bring us another burst of arctic air for the end of the week. thursday 26 degrees, lots of clouds. friday the high only 26. that's 21 degrees below normal. ending the month of february on the cold side. saturday still 16 degrees below normal with a high of 31 degrees. sunday the first dave march. will it come in like a lion or lamb? we'll have that answer in the accuweather 7-day forecast. i'll take bribes. >> i forgot my checkbook. >> i still owe her money. taking a quick break. more news when we continue. stay with us.

pennsauken residents are talking about the moments after a tanker truck crashed and burst into a fire. newly released details about the deadly crash involving a car and an ambulance. what a police investigation has now revealed. and philadelphia mayor michael nutter wants city teenagers working this summer and he's calling on local businesses to help. >> back to our top story. it took a matter of minutes for an overturned tanker truck hauling thousands of gallons of fuel to explode into a massive ball of flames in camden county this morning. >> towering flames and thick black smoke billowed into the air and into a neighborhood next to the ramp from route 90 to route 130 in pennsauken. >> that's right. an "action news" viewer center us this video of the fire while driving along route 90. and this is how it looked from chopper 6 hd. authorities say the driver of the tanker lost control while on the ramp and flipped the rig on its side. he managed to get out on his own before the tanker exploded. the truck was quickly encased in flames. >> firefighters brought in a special fire extinguishing

foam to put out the fuel driven flames. the situation looked under control until the rear part of the tanker reignited right there and sent a river of flames down the road. crews quickly put that out again. the truck driver and a firefighter were taken to the hospital for treatment. >> let's take a live picture from chopper 6 hd right now. as you can see if you look at the right of your screen a tow truck has been brought in to hall away what's left of that tanker and they're slowly but surely getting the wreck taj out of there and at some point they will perhaps try to open up this roadway though it won't be tonight, perhaps tomorrow. you can also see how much of that roadway was destroyed by the fire. if you look at the bottom of your screen, it was totally charred in that wreckage but again things slowly but surely under way to try to get this off ramp back to normal for the rush hour perhaps tomorrow evening. >> "action news" reporter vernon odom live in pennsauken for us tonight. vern you spoke with several folks who were at home and heard that blast didn't you?

>> reporter: i d this neighborhood is finally at peace tonight, all the tension has been lifted. the fire has long since been put out. the smoke has dissipated. it was very heavy out here this morning and up the hill you can still see crews cleaning up the spectacular mess. >> and i heard the explosion and if it. when i looked over, i saw the flames shooting up in the air. >> reporter: bob read witnessed the explosion as he was driving along route 130 near his home and he was in awe of its enormity. rocky rodriguez lives on wyndam street. the ramp is right behind his home. >> when i looked out the window i saw this big ball of fire and it was -- it was back there and i thought it was going hit my house so i just left told my mom let's go. pretty scary hm? >> yeah. >> reporter: there was no mass evacuation but a lot of neighbors were out of their homes for a time as the combined fire departments attacked the threatening blaze. bruce nolte's home was the one

most in harm's way. his backyard goes right up to the highway. much of it scorched by the inferno, trees pushes, his fence and even part of his shed. he was at work in montgomery county, pennsylvania, when friends called to tell him about the inferno threatening his house. >> just told me there was a big tanker truck that, you know, flipped over on 90 looks like it's right at your house and then i called a few people, some cops that i known and asked them what was going on for sure 'cause i was at work and they told me they thought it was down further from my house butter obviously it's right at the back of my house. >> reporter: indeed. it took firefighters well over an hour to bring this blaze under control. tonight this neighborhood is considerably less tense and calm but it took awhile to lessen tension here. live in pennsauken, vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> thank you vernon. the tanker truck fire is creating a lot of traffic trouble tonight. >> let's go back to matt pelman in the "action news"

traffic center with an upday. folks might want to think about another bridge. >> yeah, we're waving the red flag over the betsy ross bridge this evening, rick and monica, because as you come east into new jersey on the betsy ross traffic starts to jam solid on the downside and then continues to jam on route 90 eastbound out to 130. that's where they're still forcing all traffic off onto union avenue as they continue to clean up from the big tanker truck fire this morning. so, betsy ross not the way to go. let's look at your other options. the tacony palmyra bridge, route 73 moving just fine right now. it's not going up at this point for any bridge openings, just two bucks. or another option or good buddy the ben franklin bridge. eastbound come the headlights into new jersey. traffic here moving fine as well. so think tacony palmyra or ben franklin, not betsy ross headed into the garden state this evening. in doylestown we're watching a crash along rolling hill boulevard at addison court. a new one on 422 by route 23.

were also taken to the hospital for treatment. they were not transporterring anyone at the time of the crash. >> philadelphia police are asking you to take a good look at some new surveillance video. detectives are trying to track down the man who robbed a pair of metro pcs stores. take look here. it happened first on february 5th in brewerytown. then police say the suspect walked into the store on west girard avenue, pulled a gun, took money from the register and ran off. they think this same man hit another store on cecil b. moore avenue just four days later. a driver wedged his box truck under a train trestle here in rosemont montgomery county this morning. it's along airedale road about 10a still not clear how the driver managed to make the mistake but authorities obviously had to close the roadway between lancaster and montgomery avenues until the truck could be removed. no word if the driver will be cited. >> a fight over what to do with hundreds of acres of planned delaware county continues tonight. officials in concorde township are set to vote on a development plan for part of beaver valley.

the proposal would put at least 260 acres of house on land right next to delaware's first national park. the group which owns the land say they want to find a compromise that allows for wildlife conservation and new development. but opponents say there's too much to lose. >> preservation of the quaker farmland principles and housing that's present and preservation of contiguous habitat flora animals bird, fish. >> opponents also claim the current plan is incomplete and misleading. tonight's meeting starts at 6:orange we have this just in tonight a judge has ordered that the state of new jersey and governor christie put more money into the pension fund for retired workers. christie announced he'll not make a full payment this year which he agreed to in 2011. unions for public workers sued over that decision. the judge's ruling could force changes to the state's budget. the state government is

expected to appeal the judge's ruling. >> the school district of philadelphia is now asking the state supreme court to reverse a lower court's ruling that barred the district from imposing healthcare costs on the teachers union. the district and its school reform commission believes it should have the authority to make changes to the labor agreement in times of fiscal distress. the src had voted to cancel teachers free health benefits but a lower court decided that would have to be negotiated through collective bargaining. the head of the teachers union called the src's appeal to the state supreme court disappointing and a choice to spend scarce dollars on litigation instead of on the children. speaking of the pennsylvania supreme court center county judge thomas kiss her one of the two men nominated by governor tom wolf to temporarily fill two vacant seats has withdrawn his name from consideration. this after questions surfaced whether an e-mail he sent recently was racially insensitive.

details about that e-mail are not being made public but he says he's withdrawing because developments in his county's court system need his full attention. mayor michael nutter asked philadelphia businesses to invest in themselves by putting a teenager to work this summer. the mayor spoke directly of the benefits of summer jobs today at city hall. nutter says statistics show early employment experiences for young people have a positive impact on school attendance and can even cut down on the crime rate. it's also a way for companies to improve the future workforce and, in turn, improve the city. >> youth employment in the development of a skilled and educated workforce are critical to achieving so many of the city's long term priorities. >> through partnerships with city offices local businesses and philanthropies, philadelphia hopes to fill 10,000 summer jobs this year. >> all right, and still ahead on "action news" tonight new

>> a man wanted for assaulting a little caesar's worker has now surrendered to philadelphia police. we showed you this surveillance video. it was on valentine's day. you see the suspect here punch and throw a computer at the employee in the 1100 block of west girard avenue here. well the suspect dwayne townsend turned himself in after that video was released by police. he's now charged with aggravated assault and other offenses. police are still looking for two people who were allegedly in a getaway car. >> a 93-year-old world war ii veteran is sharing stories his temple university. william thompson was part of the buffalo soldiers african-american soldier whose served with honor. today he gave his collection of photos and stories to the

beautiful color. as we look at the arctic air what's not so beautiful is the drop in temperature we experienced early this morning. at midnight it was 37 degrees. that was our high for the day. 33 at 7 o'clock this morning down to 25 by noon and right now our temperature sitting at 24 degrees. on top of that, we still have a breeze out of the north-northwest creating wind chills in the single digits. in trenton allentown reading and lancaster below zero, in the poconos nd the rest of us are in the teens but the good thing about the wind tonight it will ease as we go dear into the overnight so we're not talking about those harsh wind chills like we had a couple of times last week. there are the cirrus clouds especially south of philadelphia to the north and west a little more in the way of clear sky and that will be the general trend tonight to see the clear sky that creates good radiational cooling without the wind meaning you can drop the temperature further. in fact, here's the records that we are predicting. not in philadelphia but we'll be close to the record of two. allentown reading and

wilmington no doubt those records are going to fall tomorrow morning. six below the air temperature tomorrow morning in allentown five below in reading. three in wilmington with the old record being six and expecting to tight record in atlantic city. high pressure still going to be in control tomorrow. still a lot of sunshine. the next boundary will be waiting a day or so to our north and west so 24 degrees but light winds tomorrow and full sunshine. then this boundary will be pushing through very late in the day. it does turn breezy on wednesday. sun and clouds but a decent day at there it degrees. that is below the normal of 45 degrees for this time of year. as we look at the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast it's cold but no wind tomorrow. so, look to the bright side of things here. 24 degrees. 38 still very chilly on wednesday but at least it's 14 degrees warmer but then as that secondary arctic front pushes through early on thursday it's mostly cloudy. the temperature drops again to 26 degrees and we tale stay

>> ♪♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with ducis rodgers meteorologist cecily tynan and jim jim gardner. >> monday night a note tour russ inmate from ocean county dies in prison and two suspected burglars are under arrest after a standoff at a bucks county gun shop. but the big story on "action news" tonight is the enormous explosion of a tanker truck in pennsauken, new jersey. the tanker went up in flames just about 11 o'clock on the exit ramp from route 90 to route 130. both the tanker driver and a firefighter sustained injuries.

and were taken to the hospital. police did order evacuations in certain residential areas. "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist is as close to the scene as she is being allowed. sarah, what is the update there? >> reporter: well, jim neighbors are now back in their homes as work gets under way to remove the wreckage from this tanker that was carrying thousands of gallons of gasoline. it was up there on that on-ramp and they are -- you can see it's getting a little dark now but you can see the trucks up there. they just lifted up part of the charred remains of the tapping up off the road and carted that away. we're just off wyndam road and the off-ramp borders the backyards here in this neighborhood and that's right where this tanker overturned sending smoke and flames up into the air. the tanker carrying 8,000 gallons of fuel overturned and exploded in flames around 11 o'clock this morning on the off-ramp from route 90 to route 130 in pennsa
