late winter snow storm disrupting the day. we have live team coverage but first adam joseph and karen rogers are tracking the weather with accuweather. lets begin with karen. >> adam and i feel lucky we have the best technology, with double scan we can show you what is happening neighborhood by neighborhood. here is stormtracker 6 6 live double scan we see brighter areas of pink in reading and go in closer and you get the sense it's coming down quickly at route 422 and 222 near fleetwood and kutztown. lets go to the wider version, it looks grayer along the area of philadelphia and the i-95 it's not coming down as heavy. lets switch to the south more, we are noticing some brighter bands near salem county and as we look live right here, in salem and woodstown and this is
12:01 pm
in glassboro and this is route 55 in malaga then is the atlantic city expressway with a heavy band pulling through. from you in these areas you'll get hit with this. watching with that stormtracker 6 live double scan showing that we'll go back out wide one more time with double scan technology we can talk about the texture of the snow, this gray is wetter heavier snow, up to the north light and fluffier with the very cold air coming in. i think we'll see a change in the consistency of the snow in the coming hours it won't be quite as heavy and wet with temperatures near freezing, stormtracker 6 live double scan 3-d, a long ahead. the snow is breaking up a bit as we look to the south and west, that is heads in our direction the intensity will ease back in the coming hours how about those temperatures 28 in philadelphia 21 in allentown
12:02 pm
and 15 in mt. pocono and one issue we are talking about is only a half mile visibility in much of the area and less than that in trenton and reading adam as are you out there today we are telling people not to but you can see it coming down steadily. >> it's hard for people that have to travel out for work but for kids it's a lot of fun and for those home enjoying it as well. we have a facebook page for "action news" and one ourselves when we are on air check it out. from quakertown tanya says there are 4 or 5 inches and she can barely open the door, it's piling up on the top of her deck and collegeville showing it's no day for a picnic a good 4 to 5 inches of snow in parts of
12:03 pm
montgomery and chester and all of those northwestern suburbs, these totals came in at 10:30 this morning and they are changing rapidly, in ewing 3 inches and boyertown 1.3 and hope well and toms river 1.5. and closing in on 6 inches exton to chadds ford 4 inches and centser city 3.3 inches are you getting a half inch to inch in edition to these numbers per hour and through the state of delaware, 2.5 to an inch, but those numbers will greatly increase, temperatures drop to the 20s and snow covered roads and it won't be ending until late afternoon and evening and the bad thing is you have the heavy wet snow and sleet underneath that will freeze up on the roads later today. >> bring on the weekend.
12:04 pm
now, lets check the highways and by ways, not a lot to speak of but some issues. matt pellman. >> bring on the weekend or bring on the spring we are sick of this roads are snow covered and so are ramps here in king of prussia, can you see this guy, he did in unintentional off roading near the ramp at 422 traffic is squeezing by on the ramp checking out the guy in the ditch. this is delco we just saw a plow train going through and there is blacktop and substantial coverage 35 miles per hour is the max on all the highways like the blue route and the northeast extension past quakertown. this is the scene in doylestown on the 202 parkway ark crash
12:05 pm
just out of view along 611 at 202, and very to mention mass transit and five septa bus rooms not running, sh h and l. >> thank you. eva pilgram is in cherry hill new jersey and erin o'hearn is in montgomery county but we go to david henry in center city where a snow emergency is in effect. >> reporter: the snow emergency is to allow plows go through, a train of plows passed through her for the first time today. this lane to the left is where cars would normally be parked but there are no cars just to allow plows to get through. here are the consequences of not paying attention to the snow emergency, these are cars being towed off of south broad street in south philadelphia this
12:06 pm
morning, there are alternate parking arrangements being made by the city, you will be ticketed and towed. center city is relatively deserted today compared to a normal week day because people decided to stay home and work from home, the long distance commuters may not have made it in but the people that live and work here in center city had to excuses. >> i was holding out to hear if they closed the office but they are open so i'm headed in. >> you have a mean boss don't you? >> yes i hope he is not listening. >> did you consider not going to work today? >> when i was going to bed i was hoping i live in town and can walk to work. >> you are not stuck in traffic? >> no i don't drive to work. >> reporter: the walk to work may have been fine but it's more of a struggle when they head home, even some that don't have
12:07 pm
to work couldn't avoid the walk like winnie and her owner. >> we moved here from the country, she is not used to having to be walked especially in the snow and ice the ice is the worst. >> at this point the ice is left over from the previous storm and this is piling up as slush beauty school is not closed. >> just because they close parochial and catholic like that it doesn't mean empire we are open people come on in and get your hair done. >> reporter: yes beauty waits for no one speaking of butte. walking the dog out here in rittenhouse park, a beautiful scene, but the city plows as we mentioned earlier are here in center city concentrating on centser city but they are not starting to plow the residential streets until after the snow

stops falling, don't expect relief until later on this evening. david henry channel 6 "action news." >> all right david thank you. lets check out the situation in cherry hill, new jersey now eva pilgram is joining us there. still smiling that is a good thing. >> reporter: well, have you to smile through it the snow just doesn't stop, some people are pretty excited about it my theory on it all is slow and steady wins the race, south jersey was not the first place to see the snow this morning but before it's all said and done they may have some of the highest snow totals in the area. look at haddonfield road, this is normally busy and they are on the road with the snowplows all morning and it's still very messy and this is what a lot of people woke up to. >> i thought i would wake up to massive amountses of snow. the snow moved in at 6:30 this morning and has not let up
12:09 pm
since. the state of new jersey is under a snow emergency all state offices are closed today. >> i went into work a couple of hours just to let everyone know we are closed. >> i'll be coming home from work early today. >> getting coffee for my husband he has to work all night. >> the snowplows are out getting ready for the storm the snow started to fall at 9:00 and the roads became slushy. >> the back roads are rough. >> another morning cleaning off the car and shoveling the sidewalks, many are hoping it's the last. >> i'm getting tired of it that is the truth. >> i'm waiting for spring is it going to get warm? come on spring weather. hurry up. >> all right so just in case are you wondering spring is about 15 days away i don't know where this weather was at christmas though? when we would have wanted to see the snow. we are live here in cherry hill,
12:10 pm
eva pilgram, channel 6 "action news." >> we didn't want it. you wanted it. >> speak for yourself. >> lets get a check of the roads in the suburbs erin o'hearn is live in washington county. >> hey sara and rick, i'm not winking at you but sometimes the wind blows and the snow all of a sudden slaps you in the face and it's hard to keep both eyes open not exactly pleasant some call it the winter wonderland i find it hard to find anything wonderful about it. look hereality pennsylvania avenue at 309, the roads are covered and the cars that go by are covered and i'm covered in snow and it's safe to say everybody is ready for spring. from the big guns clearing the streets and to the task of clearing the windshields and sidewalks. the battle against old man winter rages on.
12:11 pm
>> it's pretty but we are all getting i think a little bit tired of it. >> conditions up north deteriorated first making the commute tricky for early risers. >> i may turn around and go back home yet. >> tell me about the roads? >> they are snow covered and getting slick and sludgy. >> they are icy and slippery still. it's obvious they put salt down but they haven't plowed. >> many waited until enough of the snow stuck to roads and bridges. his consolation at least it feels like home. >> this snow coming down is typical for denver snow, real heavy and wet, but this is definitely going to delay my day. >> reporter: yes i do not think he is getting back to denver any
12:12 pm
time soon, when it snows everybody runs out for milk and bread and i hit the snow storm jackpot because we have been out here all morning and we ran into a martin's bread truck and he was kind enough to give me a couple of loafs of cinnamon raisin bread and i'm going home to make some french toast. >> 15 days until spring? is that it? >> he probably thought you were winking at him erin that is why he gave you the bread. >> another advantage to the storm. >> rain was falling for much of the morning at the jersey shore, this is a live look at atlantic city right now, the state of emergency declared by governor christy remains in effect at this hour. meantime del/dot has plows cleavering the roads in the diamond state. this is kirkwood highway. 12:19 pm
there a little while ago and one that almost ran into us here. the roads are really really slick with the snow, we talked to several people and are getting mixed reviews from people about what they think whether they think it's beautiful or whether they think it's slushy and even snowplow drivers we spoke to are sick of snow. >> i'm ready for this to be gone this winter was been so cold as cold as i can remember since 1994 when we had the ice storms. >> we do snow removal, we are never sick of it it's good for us. as far as the roads if you are not a plower or emergency worker i'd probably stay off now they are not in great shape give it time and let the guys clear them. >> that is probably good advice we have seen some snowplows coming through here. but it's periodic and as heavy as it's coming down it's hard to keep up with all the snow on the
