temple university hospital to the medical examiner's office in university citych the 30-year-old officer and father of two children was gunned down and killed during a robbery late today. and tonight wilson's department and his city mourn his death. >> it is thursday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is a police officer felled by two armed bandits in north philadelphia. "action news" reporters sharee williams and ali gorman are covering the story tonight. we start with sharee live at the 2 police district 17 and montgomery where robert wilson worked to help keep the city safe. sharee. >> reporter: and jim, you're absolutely right. this is where officer wilson worked at the 22 district right through these doors. he walked in day in and day out doing his job. the captain here called wilson an outstanding officer who was a leader of his squad and always looking to help the younger officers and take a look, the american flag here out front is

flying at half staff tonight knowing one of their own will never walk through those doors again. >> obviously the entire department is in shock. and is in mourning. >> philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey bearing news no department wants to hear. one of their own robert wilson iii was killed if the line of duty. >> i knew him and he was one of the best police officers this city has to offer period.. a very very brave heroic individual. >> he was on his shift in full uniform when he went inside this gamestop 21 and lehigh avenue when moments later everything changed while inside two individuals came in and announced a robbery. >> it it appears the suspects had no idea a police officer was inside the store. officer wilson took action as he is trained to do. >> he immediately engaged suspects and it was exchange of gunfire on both sides. >> wilson's partner heard the

gunfire and rushed over and fired his service weapon as well. one of the spus inspects was shot. another was -- suspects was shot and another apprehended. officer wilson was struck several times at close range and pronounced dead 6:5. >> this is saturday for officers at command in 22 district and saturday for the philadelphia police department and it's a saturday for the city of philadelphia. i ask that you keep officer will sop in our thoughts and prayers and his family and never forget him. >> officer wilson leaves behind two children, a 9-year-old and 1-year-old. >> this 9-year-old boy that now will grow up without a father because of what happened here today, a 1-year-old will grow up without a dad because of what happened today. who put his life on the line to make philadelphia a better city. >> and the commissioner made it very clear this city was better

with wilson on its staff serving the city. as for the suspects and what we know about them, sources tell us the suspects are two brothers actually. we also know from police two weapons were recovered from the scene today and that is being processed as well. these brothers who are being questioned at this point both have priors. they are known to police. of course, one is recovering at the hospital after being shot and we also know that video was recovered from inside that gamestop. that is also being reviewed. we also understand that there may be video from the officer's themselves who may have been wearing body cameras. we're live in north philadelphia, sharee williams. the department showing off the new equipment. the department tweeted out this picture that same day showing officer wilson who is on the left. it is not yet known if today's shooting was captureden a body camera. but, of course the department is investigating that. airport 7.5" making it biggest snowfall of the season. pittman, until energy 8" and woodbine 5.5 and wilmington 6.7 and smyrna reporting 6.7" of snow and touch to shovel as well because snow arriving on top of the slush from last night. so tonight, once the clouds clear out, temperatures will be nosediveing. record cold levels. philadelphia the record low for tomorrow setback in 1978. 10 degrees will likely tie that. allentown likely to shatter the old record of 7 degrees down to 2 and reading down to 3. it will be brutally cold tomorrow. and this will cause more problems for the morning rush hour. and expect a lot of delays, a lot of roads covered in snow. and when you get temperatures below 15 degrees rock solt becomes ineffective. there will be icy patches and it stays cold through the day tomorrow. the good news i'm predicting a big warm-up through the next 7

>> as expected philadelphia michael nutter proposed a big hike in property taxes today. nutter presented budget for the next fiscal year to county council and called for property increase of 9.3% generating 1.3 million all of which would go to school district. nutter said the money would wipe out the school's 80 million deficit and in combination with more money from governor wolf's proposed budget would restore lost programs. nutter told council, if i have to make a point between raising revenue or educating children i'll choose kids every time.

east and clouds really act like a atmospheric blanket they trap in any heat that earth absorbs from the sun during the day even with clouds they absorb heat from the sun. once clouds clear out temperatures plummet. we'll set record lows. philadelphia the record low ten setback in 1978 and i think we'll tie that. allentown record 7 setback in 1960. allentown will shatter that record dropping down to 2. trenton high and record wilmington likely record low of 10 and atlantic city airport likely a record low of 8 degrees tomorrow. and add to that a breeze. temperatures that low, it doesn't take much to create a wind chill factor at 7:00 in the morning wind chills around 0 across the viewing area. you want to put a few extra layers as you step outside tomorrow morning and then through the day despite loads of sunshine and arctic high pressure right over us we won't each make it to freezing point.
