g for the two alleged killers. brothers ramon williams aged 26 and 30-year-old carleton hipps have been charged with first degree murder, attempted murder and conspiracy. "action news" reporters david henry and chad pradelli are covering this evolving story. we start with david at the scene of the shooting late yesterday, 21st and lehigh in north philadelphia. david. >> reporter: yeah, jim, more than 50 shots were fired inside and outside this store and police say officer robert wilson saved many other lives by maneuvering that gun battle away from half a dozen customers and employees. >> when you look at the actions of the officer i think he redefined what a hero is all about imofficer robert wilson was in the store shopping for a gift for his eight-year-old son whose birthday is monday. police say the two suspects can be seen on video surveillance walking in and announcing a holdup. officer wilson pulls his gun and confronts the two. he was immediately caught in a

raging gun battle. >> he's moving back and forth firing at both suspects. they were both firing at him. he was taking rounds. he was actually being hit during the exchange of gunfire but he continued to fight continued to shoot until the fatal wound was fired and it brought him down. >> reporter: police have charged carleton hipps and ramon williams with murder after the shootout police say they ran from the store where they encountered officer wilson's partner damien stevenson. he exchanged gunfire with them outside and hit hipps in the leg. williams ran back inside. >> trying to act as though he was a patron in the store. officers quickly identified him and he also was arrested by police. >> reporter: police say williams has confessed. they say he told them he and his brother did not see the police car in the parking lot and did not see officer wilson when they went into the store. both have prior records. hipps was on parole after six previous arrests. williams has been arrest

evidence twice before. district attorney seth williams says he is likely to seek the death penalty for both men. >> for individuals that would so cowardly gun down a philadelphia police officer while he is doing his job protecting and serving the citizens, at this point would seem appropriate for the death penalty. >> reporter: now, williams has been arraigned on murder charges and is in jail without bail. hipps is still in the hospital where he was charged with murder at his bedside today. he is wearing officer wilson's handcuffs. live in north philadelphia, david henry, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you david. police recordings in the wake of the shooting reveal the raw emotions from the crime scene. here are some excerpts detailing those frantic moments. >> officer down radio. we need met medics here asap. >> we got them on the line now. rescue is en route. >> get the medic here asap.

get me command >> "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live at the 22nd district where wilson worked. chad, what has been the reaction from both colleagues and from the community today? >> reporter: officers here at the 22nd district were too distraught to go on camera but i did speak with several off camera. they tell me officer wilson was a man with a great sense of humor, he had a smile that would light up the room and will surely be missed. the 22nd district is adorned with bunting the flag is after half-staff. there are image no officer wants to see because it means another one of their own is gone. like so many officers, officer robert wilson gave his life

protecting others. >> i've seen a lot of heroic actions on the part of police officers over the years. very proud to be a part of this profession. i've not seen any that rose above what i saw on that video. >> reporter: a steady stream of people visited the 22nd day bringing food and flowers and paying respect to the 30-year-old father of two boys. >> just wanted to reach out and pretty much give our condolences and say we appreciate the service. >> we care so much and are deeply saddened about what has happened to officer wilson. >> reporter: officer wilson is the second officer from the 22nd killed since 2012. there's a sidewalk plaque for moses walker in front of the district. it's a reminder of the job's dangers and sadly another one will have to be added. >> he was one of our very very best no question about it. and we're all in shock and we're all going to suffer this loss for a very, very long

"action news." the search continues tonight for a 13-year-old boy who left his home in newtown square wednesday evening and hasn't been heard from since. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live from outside the boy's home where his parents met the media late this afternoon. vernon. >> reporter: that 13-year-old boy jim a run away his parents say and they are very squared at this point and it has friends and neighbors searching along with the police. this is 13-year-old an eighth grader who lives in newtown square missing since wednesday night from his home wearing only a ski jacket black pants and hiking boots. he left his cell phone and wallet behind. he was upset about not completing a homework assignment. he hasn't been seen or heard from since. his parents are deeply worried. >> kayman if you're out there, please come home. you're not in trouble. we just want you back. >> reporter: his parents say he is an a student who has

never done anything like this before. neighbors and friends have helped search the area for him and so have police but so far no traces of kay man. his parents are asking for any help they can get from the public. >> a 13-year-old kid shouldn't be gone for three days, you know as he's been so anyone that has any information please contact us, please contact the police. it is the first time he has done anything like this that. he's not experienced at being out on his own. this is the first time he's been, you know, on his own for any length of time. >> reporter: if you have any information on cayman's whereabouts police call local police as soon as possible. live in newtown square, vernon odom channel6 "action news. >> and we have this developing story. new jersey senator robert menendez plans a news conference at 7 o'clock

tonight to address reports that he is facing indictment on federal corruption charges. a federal official has told abc news that a criminal charge is a good possibility but a decision by the justice department could be weeks away. the charges are tied to the senator's relationship with a florida eye doctor who is a long time friend and political supporter. menendez is accused of doing political favors for the doctor. an aide issued a statement today saying the senator has done nothing inappropriate. coming up on "action news" tonight school officials in south jersey release surveillance video of a bus aide accused of stealing from students. and the ruling today that changes beer sales in pennsylvania. >> ♪♪ >> temperatures this morning dropped into the single digits in a lot of areas. these are all record lows. tonight another near-record cold night but then i'm tracking a big warmup in the accuweather forecast. >> phillies go up against the yankees in florida. ducis rodgers with that story

>> chopper 6 hd is live and overhead as animal rescue crews are on the scene of a horse rescue in delaware county. rescue crews called to an area off the 1500 block of north new middletown road in edgemont. they've been there since 5:30 tonight. a horse that horse became stuck in a ditch. they are trying as best they can to help him get out. the rider was not hurt. that's the situation in edgemont tonight. south jersey school

officials have released video of a bus aide accused of stealing from students. police in millville say 33-year-old rosa rios rum matched through preschoolers' bags and took lunches and money. she's also under investigation for possibly stealing $400 from a bus driver. rios has been fired from the shepherd bus company and charged with theft. there is word tonight that the fbi has been checking out the oxford valley mall in langhorne. reports say that agents have been looking into the owner of a precious metals kiosk near the food court to see if there is a link between him and isis. the kiosk was apparently gone. law men arrested the man in florida last month for allegedly funding a plot to get two new york men to syria to fight with isis. he operated kiosks at malls in philadelphia. a philadelphia jury has been handed the case of woman known as the black madame. padge windslowe returned to

the witnesses stand in her murder trial. closing arguments wrapped up this afternoon. she was hospitalized this week with chest pains and the trial was further delayed by the snow. windslowe is accused of killing a 20-year-old daners from london by injecting her buttocks with industrial silicone. police in atlantic county are looking for the people who tore up athletic fields at a public park. investigators say two pickup trucks drove around veterans memorial park in egg harbor township last month. obviously the park now covered by snow. they tore up the grass and left tracks all over the field. police say they caused more than a thousand dollars in damage. a big change came today for beer sales in pennsylvania. distributor coastal storm now sell 12 packs. the state liquor control board made that ruling today. the decision came after two distributors sued the liquor control board to get a definitive answer about what constitutes a case of beer. the board ruled a case is anything over 128 ounces.

since 12 bottles have more than that, 12 packs are now allowed. a new gallery is now opened at the philadelphia museum of art. the collection at the pearlman building features the unique work of mixed media artist shelley specter. the life long philadelphia resident saved old materials like secondhand clothing and furniture to make sculptures and painterrings. her work is on display through september.
