overnight in the racially divided ferguson, missouri. >> demonstrators gathered again last night and a vigil for two police officers shot before as the manhunt for the gunman intensified. abc's bazi kanani with the latest. >> reporter: determined protesters in ferguson back on the streets, but calmer and clearing out earlier under increased police presence after their demonstration the night before ended violently. [ gunfire fire ] >> oh, my god. >> he just got hit. >> got an officer down. officer down shots fired at their station. >> reporter: chaos at the scene just after midnight when gunfire struck two officers, one in the face the other in the shoulder. both now recovering. >> we're lucky by god's grace we didn't lose two officers last night. >> reporter: but the shooter is still out there. police questioned plea people from this home after a s.w.a.t.

day. small group of people turned out here in ferguson than the night before but also a lot more peaceful and i think it all started with -- what struck the tone was the prayer vigil that was led by local ministers and pastors that kind of started the night off and calmed the situation down at least temporarily. calmed the situation down because those are the people that then marched down to the police department. >> they're marching to the police department. they were celebrates the fact that the police chief stepped down. what is it that the protesters want to see, more heads roll, more resignations? >> good question because last night, one of their regular chants that we've been hearing for over 200 days changed. last night it was they were calling for the resignation of the mayor, james knowles. the embattled police chief, he resigned which sparked this

whole situation. on wednesday he resigned after that doj report came out. a few day, almost a week before he resigned. he resigned. the city manager already resigned. but now they're calling on the mayor to resign. >> we will certainly be keeping an eye over there. abc's scot withers, thank you very much. stay with abc news for the latest on the protests in ferguson and a manhunt for the shooter. president obama says he's disappointed to hear the news that one of his secret service agents one assigned to protect him, may have been driving a government vehicle drunk. the president was not told about the incident for several days. but then neither was the secret service director. the two secret service agents allegedly drunk may have interfered with a bomb investigation, as well by driving over the suspicious package. well efforts to recover the remains of those military members that died in the helicopter crash have been suspended until the weather

improves. they found the wreckage in 25 feet of water off the coast of the florida panhandle. they have recovered two bodies so far. seven marine four soldiers were on board when this black hawk went down in dense fog. jurors in the boston marathon bombing trial of dzhokhar tsarnaev have heard riveting testimony from a carjacking victim. they were shown video of tsarnaev in a convenience store buying junk food. at that moment dun meng sprint as way from his secret service which investigators say the tsarnaev brothers had carjacked at gunpoint. meng runs in telling the clerk to call 911. at that point he reports the tsarnaevs' location. hours later tamerlan was killed in a shootout. his younger brother taken into custody later that day. the teenager wanted in a case of deadly room rage pleaded not guilty. he was arraigned on murder and other charges in the death of tammy meyers. the two were neighbors but the details of the firefight are still unclear.

his attorneys claim he acted in self-defense. an american ebola patient arrives at the nat institutes of health hospital later today. the nih has a high security isolation world at the bethesda facility. the volunteer was infected while helping ebola patients in sierra leone and will be brought to bethesda maryland on a chartered plane in isolation. evacuations and travel problems after a volcano erupts. time-lapsed video shows a tremendous amount of smoke and ash rising from the volcano for a second straight day. villages within two miles of the eruption were evacuated and costa rica's international airport which is about 15 miles away forced to close because of poor visible. that also forced at least one flight out of dallas/ft. worth to turn back. time now for the weather from across the nation. expect more rain from gulf coast stretching into parts of the northeast with flash flooding possible in the mississippi and ohio valleys. some snow in the rockies. other mostly sunny and dry

yesterday's strong rally ended a two-day slide. the dow jones industrial average rose 260 points. there was good news about the health of big american banks and the dollar finally fell against foreign currencies making u.s. goods more affordable overseas. honda is launching an unprecedented ad to reach owners of cars with dangerous air bags. the automaker has recalled more than 5 million cars but just 14% of them have been repaired. six deaths have been linked to air bags that sent pieces of metal flying into cars when they inflate. honda's ads will continue on tv and will also run on radio and newspapers next week. if you're worried about your lumber liquidators' floor they will pay for an air quality test after a "60 minutes" report said it had high levels of formaldehyde. its flooring made in china complies with regulationsment both its sales and stocks are down since the report. now that winter's worst is over, we're told starbucks is
