"action news" reporter chad pradelli is live outside the funeral home tonight. chad. >> reporter: jim officers across the city, the region and the country continue to make their way here to southwest philadelphia in the francis funeral home. you can officers are gathered behind me. this began around 2 o'clock with a private viewing then the public viewing which began at 4 o'clock. there is officer wilson's cruiser. it has been an emotional scene out here and sadly, one we've seen too often here in the city. it's the march no officer wants to hear, one of their own is dead. twenty-second district officers and police brass solemnly walked down whitby to 52nd. they arrived at the francis funeral home. officer robert wilson, iii's family including his 10-year-old son was waiting. they then made their way past the eight year veteran's cruiser and inside and paid their respects.

>> i spent a lot of time with the family and he's leaving two young boys behind, one 10-year-old that has not had enough time with his dad but a one-year-old that will never really have any memories of him and that's tragic. it's a shame. >> reporter: eagles coach chip kelly arrived with football in hand. he presented it to officer wilson's son. the streets of southwest philadelphia were lined with citizens whom officer wilson served. beverly dukes reed has a son who is a police officer. she wanted to say goodbye in person. >> this is something, it's overwhelming and when i saw all those cops coming i just broke down. i pray every day when my son levers in the morning that he would come back. very touching. >> reporter: officer wilson was killed in a barrage and gunfire while interrupting a robbery at this game stop in north philadelphia. commissioner charles ramsey says surveillance video shows the 30-year-old shielded customers as he fired back.

>> it's not just what he did and the actions he took at the time he was murdered but the way in which he committed himself to serving the public. >> reporter: and the viewing here runs until 8 o'clock tonight. another viewing will be held at the palestra tomorrow morning followed by a service. i'm live in southwest philadelphia, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> thank you chad. the family of a south jersey man killed in a police-involved shooting has filed a lawsuit. dash cam video captured the fatal shooting following a traffic stop in bridgeton on december 30th. the officers say they ordered jerome reed not to move. they fired as he exited the vehicle. reed's family said he would unarmed and had his hands in plane view. they are calling for state and federal investigations and $1 million in damages. police are desperately trying to track down the gunman who murdered 51-year-old james stuhlman

last night while he walked his dog in his overbrook neighborhood. "action news" reporter wendy saltzman is live in the 6400 block of woodcrest with new information tonight. wendy. >> reporter: jim flowers have been laid here at the spot where stumhlman was found dead. police are describing this crime as a mystery placing fear in neighbors saying they don't know if this was a random shooting or a targeted crime. >> i just can't believe now this is too close to home. i just can't believe it. >> reporter: today there was shock and disbelief in this close knit community that a routine walk could turn so tragic. >> unknown individual came up to him, shot him one time and we believe fled on foot from that location. >> reporter: police say neighbors heard a single shot around 8:50. he was found lying on the sidewalk with a fatal gunshot wound his chest. his dog molly was still by his side. >> my understanding is that his daughter goes for a walk with him almost every night.

for whatever reason he said to her it's a little late tonight i don't want you walking with me so in effect he possibly saved his daughter's life as well. >> reporter: at first police thought the crime was robbery but he was found with his wallet and cash still on him. >> i think think it was random. the guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time. somebody just walking around looking for prey and he just happened to find him. >> reporter: police say they do not have any description of the gunman or a possible motive. detectives canvassed the neighborhood today looking for surveillance video and possible leads. >> i hope whoever is responsible i hope gets caught soon because i'm worried. i live here. >> reporter: the search is now on for the killer with few clues. >> not going to feel safe after this. everybody will on their guard. >> you got a hard working man a family man a-wife, he has a child, it's very tragic and sad and we'll get to the bottom of it hopefully very quickly. >> reporter: tonight this

that septa has to accept very provocative ads on the side of its buses. "action news" reporter john rawlins is live at the 69th street terminal in upper darby and john this one could upset some people on both sides of the issue. >> reporter: indeed. this judge says it's a first amendment issue as is free speech and free speech can be messy, controversial it can be unpopular. this is about ads on buses. septa -- which is a state authority said it thought hit a kind of internal mechanism to reject certain disparaging advertising. the judge said no, that's unconstitutional. septa buses can be rolling billboards. the transit agency did not want this message out there. it reads islamic jew hatred it's in the koran. with it a photo of adolf hitler. the ads and others in the series have run in other cities. behind the campaign the american freedom defense initiative calls itself a

human rights group. foes call it anti-islamic. septa argues the message violates an internal standard prohibiting ads which disparage groups or people. afdi argues septa a state agency has no right to reject their message. a philadelphia federal judge agreed. >> we're very pleased with his ruling. it was the proper ruling. >> reporter:. >> reporter: we reached afdi attorney. he says his clients' message to be provocative. >> to be thinking about these issues not within the frame of political correctness to understand that there are certainly those islamists over in the middle east are using the koran to justify their violence against jews, to justify their violence against christians. >> we do believe though, that the ads of themselves are part of a campaign to smear muslims. >> reporter: jacob bender who points out he's jewish, while he describes afdi's message as a smear. >> as a civil rights

no one on the beach there in ventnor. taking a walk on the sand but it's about two months away that we'll be packing those sands with memorial day pushing in. as we take a look at the almanac for today. your records 8 degrees set back in 1888 and it gets as warm as 84 degrees this time of year. as we look at the numbers we're a little on the chilly side now that the cloud cover has come in and we've lost that sunshine. 44 in trenton, 41 in atlantic city at the airport. 43 in the lehigh valley. dover right now coming in at 41 degrees. the clouds have been pulling in all afternoon. now really starting to thicken up but again those showers are still way to the west of state college but that is just a leading edge of a pretty sizable system. low pressure between dallas and memphis. that's going to lift to the north and east and bring this train of rain from the tennessee valley through the ohio valley and then pivot over the midatlantic.

we'll time it for you on future tracker at midnight tonight. that's when the first drops of rain will fall from lancaster wilmington to dover and despite you see some 30's on the board here, it will be rain for all of us. 9 o'clock tomorrow morning we go back into the lower 40's lehigh valley approaching 50 in southern areas first thing tomorrow morning as warm air will come with that soaking rain and then by the afternoon, 56 in philadelphia, near 60 in dover. even the lehigh valley getting into the 50's after a chilly start tomorrow. but by the afternoon the heaviest rain will be pushing to the east, more scattered to the west but throws scattered showers will continue and even though the steadiest of the rain will be long gone by 10 o'clock tomorrow night with temperatures still in the mid and the upper 50's. a good consensus with the four different models that we use here at channel 6. between about a half inch and an inch of rain with that rpm model coming in just over that inch. then on sunday, that low will continue to develop to our north and east. as high pressure comes in, there are opposite forces in
