vick -- victim's daughter helped the killer after the murder. and walter perez is live at upper macungie police. what are the details? >> jim, it is a shocking story. investigators say 20-year-old caleb barnes came here to visit his 14-year-old girlfriend. after the girl's mother confront the barnes saying she disapproved the relationship barnes allegedly stabbed her to death and then allegedly, with the help of the victim's 14-year-old daughter tried to hide the body and destroy the evidence. this photo taken by a resident of upper macungie shows the victim's victim partially submerged in a pond. when the police arrived it didn't take long to realize it was linked to a crime. >> there was a large quantity of blood in the front passenger's and driver's compartment. and on the rear-view mirror. >> and investigators searched an

area a few miles away where hours earlier a neighbor reported the suspicious vehicle matching the one in the pond. it was there they found the body of 54-year-old cheryl silvonek near the jordan creek. she was stabbed repeatedly in the neck and buried in a shallow grave. investigators went to silvonek's home and they found 20-year-old caleb barnes along with the victim's daughter. not only did barnes confess, he followed them his under-age girlfriend tried to help him after the murder by buying a few items at a local store. >> including alcohol, bleach bleach wipes, apparently in an effort to eliminate evidence of the crime. >> we spoke with neighbors and friends who say they are absolutely horrified. >> you hear about stuff like this happening, but you never like know anybody personally that it happens to. and to hear it and to be so close to home it's just heart-wrenching. i held sick all day. >> jean used to work with the

victim anticipates husband at a local supermarket and says that he was quick to help her when she went through a family crisis. >> he went out of his way to help me with my hours and anything that i needed. so if you need anything, just call me. >> barnes is held without bail on a slew of charges, including homicide and statutory sexual assault on a minor. the 14-year-old is being charged as a minor at this time with evidence tampering, abuse of a corpse and hindering an investigation. reporting live from upper macungie, walter perez for channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. two members of temple university's football team facing assault charges tonight. dion dawkins and haason reddick both juniors surrendered to police this afternoon. they have been charged with beating another student at an off-campus party in northern liberties back in january. temple says it is cooperating with the investigation and both players have been suspended from the team.

police tonight are trying to track down the person who stabbed an ice cream vendor in a bathroom today on the campus of la salle university. the victim just finished making a delivery to the blue and gold dining hall and was in the bathroom when he was stabbed in the shoulder with an unknown object. the attacker fled. and he was taken to einstein medical center with non-life-threatening injuries. two philadelphia firefighters shocked by 76,000 volts of electricity on the job today in north philadelphia. it happened as the pair broke down equipment after putting out a small bedroom fire on the 2400 block of west norris. they say they pulled an aluminum ladder away from the home and is it stagged a powerline. >> it came in contact, fortunately the ladder bounced back to the building. imagine if it stayed in contact with the wire we would have a waiver situation.

>> and eugene coulter was checked out at the hospital and released. and the other one in stable condition with third-degree burns. and knocking down a blaze in the hunting park section of philadelphia. it took them a half-hour until just after 8:00. wore which had at first about people trapped inside fortunately nobody was there. next the story of robert durst, the real estate heir who may have murdered three people. and tonight he is behind bars but the tale begins 33 years ago. and sharrie williams the extraordinary development is that durst may have accidentally said something into the hbo microphone that could be his undoing. >> all of this time he manageled to escape charges, but not anymore. follow along it truly read like a hollywood script. investigators believe that robert durst killed his friend susan berman because she had

information about durst's wife who had mysteriously disappeared. durst has said all along he is innocent, but a microphone picked up audio that may go against that. >> we came here to waive jurisdiction and go back to california and to get if on. >> but for now, robert durst is jail for the arrest and measured are of his friend susan berman. >> robert durst did not kill susan berman. he is ready to end the speculation and have a trial. >> the 71-year-old taken into custody at this new orleans hotel saturday with a long trail of questions following him. his wife kathleen vanished in 1982. his friend and confident, susan berman, was shot execution-style in 2000. then durst killed his texas neighbor claiming self-defense and the jury agreed. but now filmmakers of an hbo

documentary about durst's life have caught him in an unguarded moment that sounds like an admission. >> -- killed them all. >> durst appears to be talking to himself when he seems to say he killed them all. the off-camera audio when durst was in the bathroom apparently unaware his microphone was still on. but in interviews he repeatedly insisted he is not a killer. the audio reports a different angle. filmmakers say they were unaware of the audio until an editor discovered it and turned it over to police last year. >> it was killing to hear it. >> the audio and documentary had nothing to do with the arrest they vow they have other evidence. but again, durst agreed to do the documentary to further proclaim his innocence. now this is all being called into question. >> and speculation is as you

know, he is such a character that he might have been saying that just to be provocative. >> and that is what his attorney is claiming, calling him a great actor. >> all right, thank you. the fact is that durst has ties to our area. he graduated from lehigh in 1965. in 2001 he fled texas after murdering his neighbor. and a man hunt after shoplifting in a grocery store in hanover hospital. and he spent time in prison before extradited back to texas where he was then acquitted of murder. a mother of a south jersey murder suspect now facing charges of helping him. police arrested 67-year-old jo crosby at her sicklerville home today. crosby's 28-year-old son, kyle accused of murdering his wife. the prosecutors say that she

helped to hide her daughter in law's remains. her body has never been found. this is adam mayr a former teacher at the gloucester county institute of technology. tonight he is also behind bars for allegedly taking photographs up the skirts of female students. police same there were at least nine victims at the school and lawmen are saying any student who has mayr has a teacher in the past two to three years and believes she was victimized should contact police. we could be on the brink of a new era for open space in the city of philadelphia. you could call it parks and renovations. it's that simple to play. pick 4. easy to play. simple to say. here's the latest in the boston marathon bombing trial. the jurors today went on a field trip of sorts to see the boat that he was hiding in when he was caught. jurors saw the 100 bullet holes and the shot-out window. later in court, three police officers described the gunfire and bombs thrown during the confrontation with the brothers days after the marathon bombing. the man arrested for shooting two ferguson, missouri police officers says they were not his intent the target. jeffery williams appeared in court today. prosecutors say the 20-year-old told investigators he was aiming at someone with whom he had had a dispute when the officers were hit.

it happened at a rally outside of ferguson's police department last wednesday night. williams has been charged with felony assault. one issue that caught flak nationwide in the fallout from ferguson was military surplus vehicles and weaponry used by the local police departments, things like armored truck. and today the new jersey governor chris christie signed a law requiring local arguments to agree when county or municipal law enforcement agencies try to acquire military hardware from the defense department. christie says over the past fiscal year 2,000 requests for 17,000 pieces of equipment. israelis going to the polls in less than two hours to elect a new parliament. on this final day of campaigning benjamin netanyahu effectively did away with any pretense of reaching a peace deal with the palestinians. ruling out the establishment of the palestinian state and

"healthcheck" at 11:00, a major medical group worried about doctors ordering tests that patients don't need. the american college of physician it is urging them not to look for heart disease in those without significant issues. not that the e.k.g.'s and the tread mill tests cause harm but that false positives lead to more tests and anxiety and costs
