hello, everybody. good tuesday morning to you all. we have to start with breaking news. terrifying moment in the skies. a united flight forced to quickly return to washington. >> passengers rushing to restrain a man on board. abc's elizabeth hur has been following this overnight. elizabeth, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. this jet left washington's dulles airport late last night headed for denver. now, aboard the boeing 737 were 33 passengers and 6 crew members but just minutes into the flight it turned back. >> united 1074 we're declaring an emergency due to a passenger disturbance. he is restrained. we need to return to the airport. >> yeah, there's a passenger in the back he ran forward towards the cockpit and he is being restrained by other passengers. they cockpit is secure and we would like to just return to the airport and have the authorities meet him. >> there is a photo showing

several passengers tackling this man. he reportedly was wimpering and one man appears to be even trying to reassure him. now, one report on social media says the man was at one point yelling jihad, jihad. but that is not yet confirmed and fortunately, though no weapon was found and there were no injuries other than some bruises. as for that plane, it did eventually take off and headed for denver but without the passengers. those passengers will be going -- heading out there on a different flight later this morning. the distraught passenger, he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. t.j. and reena? >> incredible moments aboard that plane. elizabeth, thanks so much. also this morning, new developments in the murder case against millionaire real estate heir robert durst. >> now facing weapons and drug charges in new orleans stemming from his arrest last weekend. those are delaying his extradition to l.a. where he was charged with first degree murder. robert durst in a new orleans

courtroom. his attorney insisting he is not guilty in the shooting death of his friend susan berman 15 years ago. >> he did not kill susan berman. >> reporter: a contrast to his confession aired during hbo's documentary series "the jinx." >> killed them all, of course. >> reporter: the series profiled berman's death as well as the unsolved disappearance of his first wife kathy and murder of his neighbor in 2001. he was acquitted after claiming self-defense. he repeated insisted he was not a killer. off camera though while in in the bathroom unaware his microphone was still on the bombshell audio was recorded. it wasn't until two years later an editor discovered it and handed it over to police. the lapd credits additional evidence that has come to light in the past year and police say the documentary had nothing to do with the timing of durst's arrest. the 71-year-old was taken into custody saturday at the new orleans hotel where he was registered under a fake name.

the fbi believes he may have been trying to flee to cuba but durst's attorney says he was only looking for privacy. if convicted of susan berman's death durst could be sentenced to death because of special circumstances in that case. polls are open in israel but just hours before this close election the israeli prime minister threw a bit of a monkey wrench into the mideast peace process and said if re-elected there will not be a palestinian state, benjamin netanyahu says and promised new settlements in disputed territory. a last-ditch appeal to hard line voters. netanyahu is in a tight race against a liberal candidate who does favor restarting peace talks. isis targets had it near the iraqi city of moosle. equipment and facilities being targeted. the iraqis are getting more help from iran. this morning's "new york times" reporting that iran deployed advanced rockets and missiles to help fight isis in tikrit. two-thirds of the force has been

trained and equipped by iran. the syrian city of aleppo and buses turned upright used as a shield against sniper fire. the civil war there now entering its fifth year. estimated at least 215,000 people have died this that war. another day, another problem for hillary clinton and the e-mail controversy. a new poll shows unfavorable views of her are increasing and perceptions of her as honest and trustworthy have dropped. more half of respondents say it's a serious problem. more than half say she hasn't explained herself enough. while favorability rating is strong 53%, it is down. dramatic testimony in the boston bombing trial. the gun battle that broke out with the tsarnaev brothers. jurors visited the boat where dzhokhar tsarnaev was captured eventually. abc's tam y'all is in boston for us. >> we have reports that they have explosives here at the scene. >> reporter: the suburban streets of watertown, massachusetts, turned into an urban war zone during a showdown

with police. in court an officer testifying older brother tamerlan tsarnaev fired first saying the shoot-out lasted eight minutes. in this photo shown in court, the brothers are crouched behind an suv they carjacked. police say the tsarnaev brothers were shooting and hurling bombs at several officers. >> there's definitely hand grenades. hand grenades and automatic gunfire. >> reporter: then tamerlan ran out of bullets police tackling him much that's when eyewitnesses say dzhokhar jumped into the suv and sped towards his brother. prosecutors say this photo capturing the moment. police say dzhokhar ends up running over his brother who had already been shot leaving a gory scene on the residential street. tamerlan would later die but dzhokhar escaped. dzhokhar discovered hiding out in this nearby boat. jurors seen this image of dzhokhar surrendering and getting an up close look at the boat with dzhokhar actually present. something the defense asked the judge for to build sympathy for the boston bomber by showing the

more than 100 bullet holes in the boat. tom llamas abc news boston. that american aid worker who contracted ebola in west africa his condition has worsened. the patient status was downgraded from serious to critical on monday. he is being treated at the nih in maryland. his name and age have not been released but he works with partners in health. 1 other individuals who worked with him are being monitored. record high temperatures in the plains states have produced a spike in wildfires. in northern oklahoma a blaze consumed 23,000 acres. residents of dozens of homes have been evacuated and the fire may also close a state highway there. temperatures in that area were in the upper 80s with gusty winds to fan those flames. in the ohio river slowly receding from its highest level in two decades. some hopes are flooded in new richmond ohio. many roads are closed and even pedestrian walkways along the river, more flooding is expected as the water moves downstream.

well no rain expected for most of the midwest today but a storm is moving across texas and up into oklahoma bringing an umbrella to new york's st. patrick's day parade because there are showers in the forecast for the entire northeast and also the pacific northwest. >> today's high in new york 55. much cooler in cleveland for their big event there, 42 degrees. the high for savannah's big parade twice that 85 degrees and 47 near the green chicago river. 91 degrees in phoenix. well still ahead, pins harry making a surprise announcement. and another scandal rocking an american university. five athletes suspended. the text message that allegedly got the group in trouble. plus oprah's treasures, everything from furniture to a bicycle, you can own the tv host's household items.

once again seeing dropping oil prices. u.s. crude settled at 43. $8 a barrel yesterday, a six-year low and traded more than a dollar lower before recovering in excess of supplies the main reason prices are sliding several weeks ago analysts were predicting an oil rebound. it seems unlikely at this point. some predictions say prices could drop into the 30s. sephora being slammed for selling a lipstick shade named underage red by kat von d. she came under fire for naming one of her lipstick ss sellabutard. underrage red is listed as out of tock on the website. new details about apple's long rumored online tv service.

this morning's "wall street journal" reports apple will offer about 25 channels from abc, cbs and fox and it will reportedly launch in september and be available on all ios devices and apple tv because of an apparent fallout with comcast. it is not expected to include channels from nbcuniversal. have you ordered your hell cat yet? you may be out of luck if you haven't. we're talking about dodge here. look at this. they're no longer taking preorders for its new challenger and charger hell cat models. the automaker says it can't keep up with demand. 9,000 ordered so far and chrysler may resume taking orders though in august. well, when we come back walking away from the game. why a star rookie is leaving the nfl after just one season. one of baseball's greats pete rose asking that his lifetime ban be lifted. what the new commissioner is saying about his request this morning.

freshmen. they were upset about the amount of playing time the freshmen were getting. some parents wanted them expelled. they apologized. prince harry is making a major career move leaving the military after a decade of service that included two tours of duty in afghanistan. the prince retires in june and plans to volunteer with a group that works with wounded veterans. he was the first british royal to see combat since prince andrew during the falklands war. >> an incredible rescue from a burning house caught on video. in particular look at this a body cam, pictures from deputy james collins' body cam. a caller reported people were trapped inside the home. collins didn't hesitate tried to crawling through the smoke and pulled a woman out. collins, get this had only been with the sheriff's department he had been a deputy sheriff for just two weeks. top doctor's group is urging doctors to stop looking for heart disease in the wrong places. they say doctors are ordering too many tests. there's no reason for them if

there are no symptoms or major health issues. they're also expensive and the frequent false positives just add more tests and more expense. pete rose is making a formal request to be reinstated to baseball. he has been banned since 1989 for betting on the cincinnati reds while managing the team. baseball's new commissioner confirms rose's request and says he will consider it. rose's previous request for leniency from two previous commissioners were not even considered. tim tebow has been back on the football field. there for a workout for the philadelphia eagles. hasn't played in the nfl since 2012. you might have seen him on tv a time or two. tebow didn't discuss any contract possibilities with the eagles after his workout but it's a good sign would be nice to see him back on the field. so this thing called march madness kicks off today. >> this thing? >> yeah. >> a big thing. >> i don't know why you're so into it. a lot of americans are. >> this is the best time of year. a couple of qualifying games
