>> good morning, it is 7:00 a.m., saturday, march 21, here's some of the stories we're following on "action news." could a vicious attack by a dog been prevented. we talked with the local family who said the attack was not the first by the pet. calling for more action, students at penn state stage a protest in light of a scandal of a fraternity posting pictures of nude women. the first full day of spring will bring lighter skies and warmer temperatures that will help met the snow. >> reporter: let's go outside to chris sowers, looks like a picture of winter. >> reporter: it's kind of pretty right. march snowstorms we talked about this earlier in the broadcast. march storms don't last so long, temperatures get mild, whatever snow you do see, a day or two later the snow is gone.

slush on the back roads. take your time this morning. this afternoon, clouds and sun milder, shooting for a high of 55 degrees. that will feel good, but don't get used to it, we'll slam the door shut on the milder weather colder weather returns tuesday. we'll talk about that when i step back inside. >> black ice is blamed for two evaluate crashes in the northeast. the action cam was on the scene on i-95 northbound north of cottman avenue. one crash happened on the northbound side of the road. the other in the southbound lanes. penndot crews were called to salt the roads. therein no injuries in either accident. earlier this week we told you about a pitbull that attacked three members of its new adopted family. "action news" has learned it wasn't the first time the dog has gone on the attack. the animal control team of

philadelphia was warned about the dog. dann cuellar has the exclusive details. >> reporter: we were startled to hear from another family only days earlier the same dog whom they were fostering viciously attacked and injured the family dog and warned the agency not to put the dog up for for adoption. >> the lady said he was great with kids and other dogs. >> reporter: last friday shwoman picked up the 2 1/2-year-old pitbull known always -- as dom. she had taken her dog to meet dom to make sure they got along they did. the next day a terrible thing happened. >> it was horrible. he tried to get on top of my dog, my dog growled and dom didn't like that, so he gripped on to her face and wouldn't let go. >> reporter: her dog had to have a number of stitches which cost

over 700 bucks. she said she call the representative who said they would come by to pick up the dog. she was startled when the agency moved forward to put the dog up for adoption. >> i said my -- dog was attacked by the dog be what if he attacks a kid. >> reporter: two days later the dog attacked three people. they had to be hospitalized. >> i couldn't believe that poor family, the kids, how can someone sleep at night knowing they adopted that dog out knowing that it viciously attacked my dog. after a number of attempts to get the agency to explain what went wrong the executive director called to say i don't know all the facts we are

looking into it. we have policy in place to protect families from dangerous animals. the director said the dog has been placed in quarantine and will be put down. in hunting park, dann cuellar channel 6 "action news." breaking news, seven children were killed overnight in a house fire in brooklyn, all of them are believed to be from the same family. witnesses say the mother jumped from a window of the three story home and yelled for someone to help her children trapped inside. their bodies were found upstairs. the mother and another child were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. more than 100 firefighters battle the the flames and smoke. fire investigators are looking for clues is as to what sparked the deadly blaze. happening today nova has a shot with the sweet 16 on the line. nova coming off a 41-point steam rolling of lafayette last night. tonight's game in pittsburgh

ponse. a 28-year-old houston woman was shot in the head during a road rage attack. she was on her way to work when she honked her horn at the suv. the driver shot the women through the window hitting her in the back of the head. the victim was able to pull over and call 911. >> she blacked out several times at the scene but she was coherent enough to give the investigating officers some information to help us in the case. >> police have reports that same driver may have sideswiped other vehicles before firing his gun. a second suspect daric andrews is under arrest in a road-rage murder in las vegas. andrews drove the getaway after

>> taxi jumped the curb in the bronx killing a man and injuring two people. the victims were widget fewer the bulls. the -- the victims were waiting for the bus. the taxi driver was taken to the hospital as well. video caught a boat plowing into a coast guard station in miami. they are being treated in the hospital. everybody in the coast guard station is okay, the cause of that accident is still under investigation. it is spring, but folks up in maine are getting ready for cold. here's why the rivers are jammed with ice. too much warm air will cause the rivers to rise and flood low-lying areas.

>> police in montgomery have few details after a man is found dead in the street overnight. a machete-wielding man terrorizes a new orleans airport. the suspect is hospitalized after being gunned down by police. a north jersey police officer is under investigation after a deadly wrong-way crash. first though, let's head outside to chris sowers with our first full day of spring forecast. >> reporter: it doesn't look like spring, technically spring has sprung.

it arrived yesterday evening. the normal high for this time of year is 55 degrees. in one month's time, our normal high jumps to 66 degrees. take a look at that and now get off your couch and look out the wood. if you don't feel like getting off the couch. i'll show you what it looks like. it looks like a lot of white snow. 7 inches in warminster. everywhere picked up 3 to 5 inches. this was a good solid snowfall especially considering the time of year. had this be february or january we would -- had this been january or february, we would have picked up 17 inches of snow. double scan live showing for the most of the part we're in the clear. if you look between toms river and new york you see shades of blue and white that's where we are picking up patchy freezing drizzle and a couple of sleet

pellets from jackson mills to lakewood to the jersey shore belmawr and point pleasant reporting a little bit of patchy drizzle. that's about it. at this point, now things are beginning to clear skies are going to start before it brightening up later this afternoon. 39 degrees by 9:00 a.m. lunchtime 46. the numbers jump this afternoon as we start to increase the sun. 53 degrees by 3:00 p.m. we're shooting for a comfortable high of 55. with the sun setting 7:14 p.m. all the snow should be gone or two-thirds of it, a lot of it will be gone. you'll see the front lawn again the only issue tomorrow, the temperatures fall off the cliff again another cold front pulls through. eva. >> a man was shot and killed on the street in pottstown he died at the intersection of washington and beach streets.

police are trying to figure out the motive for the shooting. there were frightening moments inside new orleans international airport when a machete wielding man ran through security. he was shot three times by sheriffs deputies. >> reporter: police cars swarmed this terminal at louie armstrong international airport in new orleans. a man identified as 63-year-old richard white confronted a tsa officer. >> he pulled a can of wasp spray and sprayed the officer in the face. >> reporter: he attacked two more tsa officers one with a machete. >> he came in contact with the individual with the machete. that officer fired three times hitting the perpetrator. witnesses say it was

him as a member of the honor guard for the slain philadelphia police officer robert wilson iii. new new jersey state police have identified two people killed in a fiery crash on the atlantic city. sean mcbride and gabrielle lynnes were driving in the westbound lanes when their cars lost control and hit another vehicle and as you can see caught fire. the driver of the bmw checking on a flat tire was hurt, it was snowing at the time, but the cause of the crash has not been determined. the children of a comedian killed in a crash that seriously injured tracy morgan have received a settlement from walmart. james mcnair's children will get 10e $10 million from the retailer. mcnair was killed when a walmart semi crashed into the limo carrying the comedian, morgan suffered a traumatic brain

injury. a south philadelphia business is turning to the internet looking for those responsible for causing $2,000 to jim's steaks. look at this video taken outside jim's steaks at 4th and south. you can see two men with a short sleeved shirt and cream-colored sweater. they are talking to each other one bangs on the window of the straighten, and his friend backs up and charges the window, shattering. >> i would like to deal with it between he and i, if i find out his name and he doesn't come forward, then we'll go to the police. >> the pictures have been viewed more than 50,000 times. >> penn state students will be paying more next year for room and board and a senior aid to govenor tom wolf is not happy about it. penn state trustees voted to race cost 4% or $200.

snow on connecticut. this late punch of wintry weather left a few residents if moving to florida would be better. with snow showers that brought out the umbrellas in wilmington. this was the scene of folks out and about lunchtime at 5th and king. it was a wet snow, even though they were flakes, your head was soaking wet. >> reporter: they were like silver dollar. very heavy very wet very difficult to remove from walks. as we get you outside that may be one of the issues you're faced with this morning especially north and west of the city. the far western suburbs the lehigh valley. you'll have slush on the walks. if you attempt to remove it. make sure you're bending your knees and keep your back straight. push it off to the side of the walk with the shovel. in the meantime there's the

view the camden waterfront. the battleship new jersey. you're not seeing the ice on the delaware river. temperatures are better than a month ago. with that said we're dealing with icy conditions out there. we have freezing drizzle in monmouth and ocean counties. for the most part a lot of this is starting to pull away and fizzle out. now we have snow showers to the northwest. this is the lehigh valley and the poconos wilks-berre scranton area. snowshowers could fall in the poconos over the next couple of hours. that should be as far south as it will get the poconos northern portion of the lehigh valley. we have got off to a slow start 65 degrees christmas day we saw .1-inch of snow. it get better in january 4.3. 10.6 in february. 1 1.9 in march giving us a grand total of 26 points 9 inches of

snow which is above average. our seasonal average is 19 inches of snow. it's close to what we were calling for back in november with the winter weather outlook. things have up and down out nicely with the forecasted call. spring snowstorms are not uncommon. on average we typically see one inch of snow during the spring month. the highest storm we ever saw was 19.4 back in 1915 that occurred in april of all months. that shows you we're not in the clear just yet but the numbers are getting better and better, you'll see that reflected in the seven-day forecast in just a moment. 32 degrees in philadelphia. dewpoint, 27. winds out of the north/northwest at 6 miles per miles per hour. quakertown, 30 fleetwood 29. saint davids 30. once again if you're going to be traveling over the next couple of hours even if you're walking along a sidewalk if it looks wet it's glazed over. walk slow, exercise caution you don't want to slip and fall.
