in philadelphia. millville 24 degrees. it's a chilly day out there we're seeing a few high, thin clouds roll in mainly south of the city at this point. the bulk. cloud deck will stay to the south. we're expecting mostly sunny skies, just a few high, thin clouds. accuweather says 45 degrees in the city. upper 30s low 40s in the lehigh valley. south and east, breezy with the wind will feel like the mid 30s. when i come back we'll talk about how long the colder weather lasts and when we'll see changes in the forecast. >> villanova is returning home after the devastating loss to nc state. annie mccormick is live at the school in recalled -- radnor.

the buses came and dropped the coaches and the players off. some of players gathering their things before they head home. it collapsed blacts across -- brackets across the country and broke hearts. we wanted our wildcats to win. it was after a 44 point victory over laugh yet. they lost to north carolina state the final score 71-68. going into march madness they earned a number one seed, and finishing with a record 33-3 the best in school history. fans thought they would win or get past the first weekend many fans at watch parties last night left devastated. >> i held on to the a little bit of hope that we would pull it out in the second half. >> it was heartbreaking. >> i'm proud to be a villanovan

12-year-old boy after assaulting the boy's mother. it happened in port richmond at 2:30. gentleman meal -- jamile carter salted his ex-girlfriend and the boy woke you mean and came down -- woke up and came down the stress, carter took out a gun and shot the boy in the leg. carter is on the loose. philadelphia police are looking for suspects who left a man in critical condition. the shooting happened at 1:00 a.m. the 22-year-old victim got into an argument at a house fire when a gun was pulled out and fired. the man was shot three times. he was rushed to penn presbyterian hospital in critical, but stable condition. funeral is planned today for the seven victims of a house fire. the victims from an orthodox

jewish family dialed yesterday. many refrain from using electricity on the sabbeth. the mother and sister survived by jumping from the second floor, but both suffered burns and smoke inhalation. police have asked for a warrants to test the driver's blood alcohol level following the crash. he and the other officers are members of the linden police department. they were off duty. authorities say the four men were heading home from a trip club when their car drove the wrong way on a highway and crashed into a tractor-trailer. police in new orleans say an attack at the new orleans airport by a machete wielding man could have been worse.

richard white has died. he had a history of mental illness. he was carrying molotov cocktails and had smoke bombs in the car. a 12-year-old colorado girl is in custody accused of trying to kill her mother and police say it was all over an iphone. the girl's mother took away her phone. out of revenge. the filler tried to kill her -- the girl tried to kill her with bleach. >> a few days later she noticed that the water smelled like bleach. the girl is facing two counts of attempted first degree murder. in "healthcheck" we'll tell you about a fund

30s when you factor in the winds. 22 in the poconos. 24 in allentown and 34 in philadelphia. we'll be dealing with all day long, the winds will whip around out of the west/northwest. later this evening, same thing colder numbers to the north and then they get really cold, first thing tomorrow morning, it will feel like 15 degrees by 6:30. 3 above in the poconos, 19 in philadelphia. trenton, 17. millville, 22 degrees, a nice, cold shot sneaking in over the next couple of days. good news, high pressure that means quiet conditions, as you can see today tomorrow, tuesday, very, very quiet. we're tracking a combination of sun and clouds each and everyday. the next weather maker isn't until wednesday evening that's actually in the form of a warm front that will pull through maybe dropping showers across the area. going across the country there's not too much going on. we have showers pulling west to east, that high will stay to the

north. the showers will try to pull up to the north but they cannot pen trailt the dome. -- penetrate the dome it will work off the coast. i just looked up here, this is impressive, it has never happened since 1970 when the storm prediction center issued watches and warnings. during the months of march there hadn't been a single watch or warning issued across the entire country. confirmed tornados from the first of january to now. zero. it's a been a quiet severe weather season. that's the good news for all the cold, it doesn't allow the severe weather season to get active. we have couple of days warmer in the seven day. but for the most part you'll see this. 45 degrees, sunny and breezy. overnight tonight patchy clouds cold, 29 degrees in the suburbs. allentown, reading 28, 19.

said anything less than a final four would be a disappointment. a loss in the round of 3 # -- 32 is devastating. >> reporter: the villanova wildcats are crashed. they are the first number one seed in the entire tournament to go down, it is their first lost in more than two months it comes at the worst possible time. walking over the floor in pittsburgh, after losing by 3 to nc state as you can see they were very emotional crying, they had towels over their heads. the team priest was giving them advice telling them they want out with respect. i asked head coach jay wright what he said to his emotional players after the game. >> there's not a lot you can say, you tell them you love them, you're proud of them and tell them, you know, short term, we've got to deal with this right now. everybody is hurting. >> reporter: do you feel like this season is a failure right now? >> right now because we lost,

but later we had the most wins in big east history big east title that lasted 20 years, it was a great year, but right now it's a sad year. >> it's tough guys have been so much to me. these guys are my brothers, my everything. >> reporter: the wildcats just destroyed down low in the game. how about out rebounded by 13, even worse nc state 4 had 20 points in the paint. let's not talk about the shooting, 31% for the cats with the season on the line. villanova comes up short of the sweet 16. jeff skeverski channel 6 "action news." >> we lost a legends yesterday as eagles great chuck bednaric passed away at the age of 89. >> that's the end of the line. >> reporter: the man known as concrete charlie will be remembered for making the

game-saving tackle at franklin field in 1960 that clinched the eagles last nfl championship. he played a franchise record for 14 seasons. ron jaworski remembered him this way. >> it's a very sad day for philadelphia. you know, chuck bednaric embodied the spirit of philadelphia. concrete charlie he was the face of the philadelphia eagles for many, many years, he is a hall of famer. we talk about the great football player he was. he feels much more than that, that's why he was so well respected in the community. i stayed in the community and gave back to the community and stayed very active. >> reporter: union facing dallas postponed on friday because of the snow, they were shut out 2-0 winless through their first three games of the season. that's sports go on out there and have a great sunday! >> another half-hour ever "action news" is just ahead.

jersey forcing a woman to jump to safety. >> a scary scene at a ski resort in maine when a chairlift starts going the wrong way. >> new video shows a third attacker in the deadly assault on the tunisia museum. the government said he got away. >> we have a chilly one out there. >> reporter: you got that right the wind makes it feel colder than it is. temperature-wise we're below average several consecutive days. as a matter of fact we'll go back to friday when we saw the snow. some areas picked up 6 or 7 inches. the high temperature was 17 degrees below normal. it's been a cold stretch. even yesterday yesterday was really nice, 53 degrees, that's below average the normal is up to 55. today we're expecting high temperatures to climb into the mid 40s which is ten degrees below average. monday, 12 degrees below average

when all is said and done. you factor in the winds, it will feel like this the rest of the way. 34 in philadelphia. ten colder in allentown. reading, # 1. 22 in the poconos. 28 in trenton. wilmington, 36. millville, 40. dover a windchill of 41 degrees, that cold canadian high pressure system will set up shop over the mid atlantic and the northeast over the next several days. what you feel today cruel feel tomorrow and -- you'll feel tomorrow and tuesday. it won't be until wednesday when the pattern changes a little bit. it gets better in the seven-day forecast, i promise you i'll talk about that when i see you again in ten minutes. >> we're holding you to that promise. the villanova wildcats are returning home after last night's devastating loss to nc state. >> annie mccormick is live at the school in radnor township with more.

>> reporter: they are back home with heavy hearts greeted by several fans at villanova coming off the devastating loss. it was a half-hour ago, this is the video of the wildcats coming off the bus after they returned from bit burger following the devastating loss from north carolina state by 3 points. the final score 71-68. going into the tournament, the wildcats earned the number one seed in the ncaa tournament and finished with a record 33-3 the best in school history. evenly though they were sad one young fan gave them smiles. coach wright talked about how the pliers are handling the loss. >> i'm proud of those guys, they led our team to the winningest season in basketball. they are warriors they will be respected and revered win our program. players just left here moments agates been a week of highs and lows. coach jay wright saying for years they have accepted all the

accolades that have come their way and now they are accepting the loss and will move forward. annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> good attitude to start with, thank you. in other news a family of 8 escaped their burning home in philadelphia. the home was damaged by the flames on the 200 block of west atco street in olney. fire officials say it started in a bedroom on the second floor. a couple and 6 children got out of the home safely before firefighters arrived. the cause is under investigation. a woman had to jump for her life when a two two-alarm fire broke out at the apartment complex. firefighters from 6 companies battle the the blaze for nearly an hour before bringing it under control. two residents were taken to shore memorial hospital for injuries including the woman who jumped from the second floor balcony to escape the flames. the fire displaced 21 adults and

children including three infants. the red cross is helping them. officials in tunisia said a third attacker in the terror attack is on the run. he said three people were involved in the attack. new security camera foot annual shows gunmen walking through the museum, at one point they encounter a third man who walks away. 21 people were akilled in the attack. security forces shot and killed two of the gunmen. the pentagon and fbi are investigating a new isis threat. this one targeting u.s. troops in america. the troop calling i felt islamic state hacking division posted photos and addresses of 100 american servicemen and women online. the group called on isis supporters in the u.s. to kill the people on the list. defense department officials have told abc news they cannot confirm the validity of the message, but they are contacting

the families on the lists. happening today the u.n. security council has called for an emergency meeting to discuss the situation in yemen. shiite muslims took control of the third largest city. yemen is battling al qaeda and the affiliate of the islamic state groom. that groom claimed responsibility for -- group claimed responsibilities for the suicide bombings in the county that killed 137 people. afghanistan's president is making his first official visit to the united states. among the topics to be discussed america's military presence in the average. the president said he wants the u.s. to keep ten thousand troops in afghanistan through the next

>> this is what happens when you don't make thousands of pounds of fireworks all at once. police in midland texas seized 20,000 pounds of fireworks and set them off over the next three days. the net naition was -- detonation was done during the day because it was not meant to be a fireworks show. a train derailed overnight with methanal. as a precaution, a dozen train cars jumped the tracks, five were carrying methanal in if you're in the sun it's not that bad out there. but if you're in the shade it's a different story. let's get you started with the

note the numbers they are not climbing all that high. 5:00 p.m., 45. 40 in allentown. trenton, 42. this evening, 43 by 10:00. in the city, below freezing north and west in the poconos 19. 35 in millville. dover, 36. wildwood 38. first thing tomorrow morning these are actual air temperatures. doesn't take into account the winds. low 20s north and west, mid 20s south and east, everybody dropping in the teens when you factor in the wind. it's thanks to this area of high pressure right here skirting on by the u.s./canadian border. it will push west to east across the border and it is close enough to drop us down into the 40s and 50s for the high. it's all the way up to new york city where temperatures are ranging anywhere from ten to 15 degrees cooler than normal. one of the positives what i mentioned earlier the fact when

peanut butter cup. a kiddie pool was used to mix the ingredients because the workerses couldn't find a bowl big enough. they poured melted chocolate and spread peanut butter in the pool and created 444 peanut butter cup. it took 440 pounds of ingredients to create it cup. it beat the old record by 190 pounds. eva and i said earlier we said we would split it. i guess we can share it with chris sowers. i'm noticing the size of the peanut butter. >> fyi philly is next on channel 6 "action on channel 6s.
