return home after an early exit from the big dance. >> and it's philadelphia's oldest polish parish now the smith town church is facing a date with destruction. and the big story on "action news" tonight is shooting of a 1-year-old boy in port richmond. police say his mother's exboyfriend pulled the trigger. >> it happened this morning at the woman's home on the 3500 black of jannie street. ken em, you vat details tonight. >> reporter: brian sarah the good news the 12-year-old boy who fought to save his mother is out of the hospital. bad news they have not been able to locate the suspected shooter who is considered to be armed and dangerous. philadelphia police say it was a violent struggle inside this port richmond home in the end a man opened fire on a 12-year-old boy. >> i think he's a monster. i think he's a real monster. >> east detectives say 2 a.m. on the 3500 block of janey street the 33-year-old woman who lives here heard her front door open

and went downstairs to investigate and police say the woman spotted her exboyfriend 23-year-old jami le carter standing in living room. there was an argument the woman tried to get him to leave and he attacked her sitting her in the face several times before her sleeping son woke up and stepped in. detectives say carter fired one shot striking the 12-year-old in left thigh. >> why shoot the kid. you could have easily over powered the child and just pushed him to the side and walk away. once you see the kid come in the room leave. make the problem somewhere else. >> carter took off. police say the man who freak wentz west philadelphia is known to them. the boy he's accused of shooting was back home sunday afternoon. his family would only say he's okay. >> he's trying to save his mom. that's a good son. >> he's a kid, goes to school friend with daughters. >> neighbors on the street filled with kids say they have concerns with carter still on

the loose. >> it's scare why you now. now he still has a gun. it makes me think twice of having my kids out here. >> police say carter previously lived on the 1200 block of north 2 street in north philadelphia. if you have any information on his whereabouts, investigators want to hear from you. reporting live here outside east detectives in hunting park. ken, channel 6 "action news" sarah. >> kenneth, thank you. in west philadelphia a man was shot and killed inside a barbershop this afternoon. it happened in the 600 block of north press ton street. police rushed the victim to pen presbyterian hospital where he was pronounced dead. the suspect turns himself in a short time later. investigators have not released names of victim or suspects. still no word on motive. >> a woman's body has been found in east norriton township and it's been preliminarily identified as a missing montgomery county woman. heather tilette was seen

february 6 walking out of einstein hospital. searchers found the body in a search of a wooded area near taft today her kloming and other items indicate it could be her. an autopsy is being done to determine the cause of death. >> the red cross is helping dozens of people after a fire tore lieu an apartment building in somers point new jersey mays landing road. two residents were injured including one woman that jumped from a second floor balcony. five apartments were heavily damaged. in all 21 adults, nine children and three infants were displaced. . the philadelphia archdioceses announced this weekend that the church that served some of the city's first polish catholics be demolished. st. lorencius has stood since 1882 in fish ton. time as taken a toll. with the full story, nora. >>reporter: hi there sarah this news is not received well by members of the st. laurencis community who worked hard to save the church. they feel like archdioceses is jumping the gun before rome weighs in on appeal apreserve it. >> they lie to it saying the damage is worse than it is. >> patricia kings man is a member of the committee which appealed to the vatican to stop archdioceses plan to demolish the first polish parish built in 1800s. rome has not ruled open the appeal and arch dpi cease announced at mass this weekend over the next several months it will move to secure permits to take down the church paying for demolition with sale of unutilized parish property. it would cost almost 3.5 million to restore. it supporters of the church closed a year ago say repairs
