ue bell nine students were on the bus headed to the saint helena school on the 100 block of windermere drive. walter perez is live at that location. we are all grateful the kids were okay. >> reporter: no doubt jim, and it was one of the sixth graders on board that rose up to help save the day but first take a live look at the damage done, a tremendous amount of damage workers are on the scene here, a huge tow truck removed the bus a few hours ago and the people that live here are lucky to be alive. >> jill describing what it sounds like when the bus plowed into her home and into the computer room, the same room she and one of her daughters just walked out of. >> the force was great and sounded like an explosion, i literally thought there was a gas leak and something exploded

downstairs after they evacuated they helped cornered neighbors trying to remove the nine students from saint helena's elementary school on board but leading the way was isabelle whose thoughts led to her classmates after the crash. >> saw the latch on the door and knew i couldn't do the up and i did that emergency exit and i opened it and got out and i encouraged the kids to get up and get out. >> the nine students on board and six others about to be picked up are all doing just fine meanwhile the people first on the scene were not saying the same for the before us driver. >> he kept saying i don't remember and he said are the children okay? i said they are help will be here for you. >> the bus driver was transferred to the hospital to be treated and questioned by

police. >> i said a prayer and said thank you god that my kids were not in that room, we would have been pinned to the wall, i can't even think about the would of's. >> and isabelle never thought the bus safety lessons would come in handy. >> we have the drills but i never thought i would have to do this. then when it happened i knew i had to get the people out, i knew what to do so i was good to do it. >> business isabelle is something else. there was a dash-cam insoods of that bus police are interested in seeing the video and as for the family we asked where they would stay tonight and they said probably a hotel. but right now they are simply not sure. reporting live from blue bell, walter perez channel 6 "action

news." >> thank you. the continuing coverage of the bus crash continues at 6abc.com you can see all the photographs and video from the accident scene. the 4700 block of frank ford avenue was the scene of a grim discovery in the frankford section, police found what appears to be a woman's remains buried in a backyard. >> lets go live to the scene and "action news" reporter, dann cuellar what have police found out about this and what about an arrest? >> reporter: they do have an arrest right now jim the investigation is on going staff members from the medical examiners office arrived a half hour ago they are continuing to gather evidence in the alley where a woman's body was found in a shallow grave. and the man is being questioned by homicide investigators. >> this shows police struggling with the suspect as they tried to take him into custody shortly

police are waiting for a search warrant to serve on the suspect's apartment on the block, a suspect is being questioned but no charges are filed yet i'm dann cuellar, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. bensalem police have identified the woman killed from being hit by to cars this morning. 28-year-old christine massey was walking on knights road at 6:00 and was hit by an on coming car, the driver stopped but a second car hit massey but kept going the driver was later found but police are not sure if that driver realized what happened. members of a well known delaware family are back in the u.s. after falling very ill during a caribbean vacation, the two teenage sons are being treated at childrens hospital in philadelphia. and there is live action here now, chad pradelli is at the

scene. >> reporter: jim it's believed that the family was poisoned, sean and ryan remain at chop, we are told that they remain in critical condition and their parents are in stable condition at another hospital but it appears that the family of four began to get frighteningly ill during a family vacation. >> steve ezmond and teresa and their two sons were in the u.s. virgin islanding when they became hill and they believe by a powerful pesticide. an outside company treat aid room below theirs but that is banned from use in dwellings. dr. pan tarry is a doctor at penn and that is used to treat for rodents and bugs.

amount of exposure the epa is investigating. i'm chad pradelli, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you chad. westchester university put students on alert after two attacks in off campus neighborhoods last week income each case the victim was approached by two or three men and they demanded money and cell phones the victims were roughed up but not seriously hurt, the man accused of hitting and killing a pennsylvania turnpike employee will go on trial. jenson was driving a tractor trailer in june and he drove into the right lane that was closed for construction and jenson struck and killed 61-year-old william mcwiggin and a second worker was also hurt. the bankruptcy judge will reconsider the sale of revel to glen straub the judge ruled earlier she did not have

jurisdiction to approve the sale. now they are told to treat the $82 million proposal as a new sale request. it will have objections from former tenants and creditors. and coming up the snow has taken its toll on the roads and that means problems with the trash cleanup. well, it was yet another chilly but dry day i'm tracking a surge of warmer air on the way that comes with showers and thoms, details on the timing in the accuweather forecast. those stories and more when "action news" continues tonight.

a water rescue detoured the morning commute through kelly drive today. the philadelphia marine unit responded to the schuylkill river at 7:00, police say that a 35-year-old man jumped from the bridge and the man was taken to hahnemann hospital with stable condition. and it's election day in northeast philadelphia voters are deciding which candidate will fill the 170th district seat left vacant by brandon boyle. white is a financial adviser, polls are open until 8:00 tonight. for many people this time of year means spring cleaning but for the philadelphia streets

department it's time for spring repairing, repairing its trash trucks. vernon odom explains. >> reporter: city works late today trying to catch up on curb side pickups, in many cases residents are taking it in stride. >> what are you going to do? >> reporter: the reason for the delay is the impact the last several winters have been brutal on the trash trucks that are outfitted with snowplows to fight the storms. now nearly 10% of the fleet 38 in all sit in this lot waiting for major repairs or to be scrapped entirely. >> these vehicles are used for snow removal and trash collection and they are used year round the streets department want them to keep placing their trash on the regular scheduled days but the

delays could last for weeks garbage not picked up on the regular day it will be picked up the next day. >> one city worker tells me that delays are getting mixed reactions. >> some are appreciative that we are out here still getting up. >> and others say -- >> others you know, they think we are just milking the clock but we don't really have the equipment. >> at least a dozen new vehicles are due to the city this summer beyond that 40 more are set to go into the pipeline pending city council approval of mayor nutter's final spending plan. in northeast philadelphia, vernon odom, channel 6 "action news."

little too late as far as the sun, it didn't help us at all. the high today in philadelphia only 40 degrees the third day in a row stuck in the 40s, that is 16 degrees below normal. 40 degrees is more typical of mid-january than mid-march, right now millville is 39 and dover is 38 degrees and wildwood 36 and allentown 44 because they saw the sun first and reading 42 degrees. satellite 6 along with action radar showing the clouds that were with us most of the day are now clearing down to the south high pressure is building in and that will clear us out as we head through the night tonight. there is a system waiting in the wings, we are dealing with a cold front with scattered showers and that cold front is focusing on the line of severe weather right now south of kansas city and the possibility of a rumble of thunder thursday

afternoon as the front gets closer, tomorrow is the opposite of today today we start with the clouds and saw the sunshine tomorrow we start with the sun and the clouds roll in and it could bring us scattered afternoon showers it's going to be another cool day but not quite as chilly as today. the warm front lifts to the north and this is the day we get the warm air if we hit that the warmest day so far this year but not a bright and sunny day we start with thick fog and then showers, perhaps even thunderstorms, by 1:00 future tracker showing a cluster of storms and it stays unsettled into the night ahead of a cold front, another round of heavy downpours and perhaps a few more rumbles of thunder and the temperatures begin to step down as we head towards the weekend, the next 12 hours skies are clear and another cold night, 23 degrees in the suburbs and 30 under center city and the

jim: it's a bad idea to assess children this way. it takes away the joy of learning in a classroom, which was one of the reasons we all became teachers - to see the bright look on their face when you finally got them. ros: it's those years where we had that teacher who gave us a little extra, who spent a little bit more time with us, who made us stay after school, who kept calling our parent. a standardized test is one of the weakest ways to assess student learning and student knowledge. jim: it's detrimental. standardized testing is sucking the air out of classrooms.
