that went down in france yesterday. the new information about that plane crash. >> and a thief at work inside a local supermarket, the bold way he stole thousands of dollars in groceries. >> but the big story is rain heading our way as we look outside at sky 6 hd at the jersey shore in atlantic city. we are expecting afternoon showers you can tell from the sky that things are starting to gray out there a bit. david murphy joins us with the latest at the big board. >> there is rain from the western suburbs, stormtracker 6 live double scan tracking it for you. mostly light precipitation, you can see through this series of images, we get yellow popping up and it doesn't last long and this is nuisance precipitation and the western half of newcastle county delaware and those of you in south jersey and the delaware bay are close to seeing the first drops. it's colder in pottsville and

areas north of harrisburg, so perhaps a bit of wet snow popping up here and that is just a nuisance and in our neck of the woods it will be rain today. and a second batch is here to the west and tracking towards the east, most of this is heading north of delaware and lehigh valley but i'll allow a second batch for the northern and western suburbs. this is the main precipitation we'll get this afternoon and then a couple of lighter sprinkles later on. satellite is showing cloud cover coming through this morning and it still is in south jersey and places east of this rain. we'll look at cloudy skies the rest of the way with a sunny break. temperature-wise, we are improving, 41 in wilmington, allentown as the rain pushes in we'll see the numbers push up.

company cut service to 2700 customers so crews could fight the flames. walter perez is live at the scene what is the situation? >> reporter: well sara, you can see plenty of smoke still coming from the building, fire crews remain on the scene this is the 1100 block of mock chunk road. it started at 4:00 this morning at the fabricating company. crews got this under control two hours ago but this whole region was covered in smoke that is why a shelter in place ofrder was in place for people that nearby and that order has since been lifted. power was cut to 1500 to 2000 customers in this area and 300 remain without power at this hour, that was done as a precaution because of the power

12:30. the leaders of germany, france and spain are in the alps paying tribute to the people that were on the plane when it went down yesterday. most passengers were german and spanish and we learned two americans were also on board. it's not clear why the plane went down one black box has been found but it is damaged but officials say it can still be useful. a buck county teacher is out on bond today. michael switer was charged with having a romantic relationship with a student at william tenent high school. annie mccormick joins us now live with reaction. >> reporter: sara, authorities found out about the alleged inappropriate relationship between the student and teacher, the teacher who is also a husband and father faces serious

charges, students are upset about the arrest of 33-year-old michael switer a long time social studies teacher he was charged with unlawful contact of a minor and institutional sexual assault a charge they can face if they have indecent contact with the student. >> now everybody is upset about it and on edge. >> it's really crazy how that happened. he was a good teacher, i had him for law and justice last year and he did so much for the school. >> according to an arrest affidavit, this happened off the last couple of weeks she said that she met with her teacher several times at the school and at a local coffee shop where they kissed and talked about

sexual intercourse during that time she was still 17 they admitted to swapping emails sexual in nature and planning a sexual rendezvous at a local hotel to consummate their relationship. that never happened and instead detectives intervened. the school released a statement. though were saddened by the situation and as soon as we were made aware the employee was placed on leave our concern is first and foremost focused on our students. >> today we went to swider's home where there was no answer and the district notified parents and students yesterday. >> after school activities were canceled. they are handling it professionally. >> some think the charges are too harsh.

states have been killed in the line of duty the suspects in both cases are dead. a wisconsin state trooper is gunned down yesterday during an attempted bank robbery, the trooper and suspect shot at each other during a pursuit. in california, a san jose police officer was shot and killed last night while responding to a report of a suicidal man. the gunman was later found dead. a piece of history is being threatened by isis militants this is the set that was used for several star wars films it depicts the planet of tatuene. they show increased activity in that area and tourists are being told to stay away. well a new study shows teenagers are more dangerous on the road than anybody every thought distractions are the cause for more accidents for teenage drivers, aaa came up

with the new figures based on videos that captured exactly what teens were doing in the moments before 1700 crashes. >> we were hoping that our findings in the study will make parents more aware of the problem and the potential for disaster. the most common forms of distraction were talking with other passengers or texting or talking on a cell phone. some unlikely heroes saved the day for a louisiana truck driver, two elephants prevented this tractor trailer from overturning into a ditch yesterday. the animals were getting a ride from florida to texas when the driver stopped on the shoulder and his truck got stuck in the wet grass and was in danger of tipping over but the elephants used their strength to hold the 18 wheeler upright. a state troop under washington says this is by far the best carpool scam he has ever seen.
