crash his plane. plus after decade of mystery one of the founders of the nation's largest african-american sororities is finally given a proper farewell. but the the big story on "action news" is a philadelphia police officer arrested and charged with dui. investigators say he was driving drunk behind the wheel of a patrol car and we're told he was actually trying on three flat tires and didn't even know it. "action news" reporter kenneth moton joins us from south philadelphia with the full story, kenneth. >> reporter: walter, well, it appears officer darryl cathey had finish his shift when fellow officers saw him and his damaged patrol car, outside this police district. this evening, there are still a number of questions, like where was this officer drinking while on duty? where did he damage his car? were any civilians injured during this incident. philadelphia police say that one of their own was drunk on the job, and in uniform and driving his mark patrol car just outside of his 12th

police district in southwest philadelphia. investigators say 26 year-old darryl cathey, a six year veteran on the force was spreaded around midnight on 6500 block of woodland avenue near the station. supervisor said officer cathey had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. his patrol car had three flat tires, and bent rims. but the officer was so drunk he had no clue his vehicle was damaged. police say moment cathey was taken into custody, he became violent and for the back attacking his supervisor. he was taken to police headquarters where he was book and charged with dui aggravated assault and a number of other charges. >> it is sad but people no matter what profession they are in they make the right decisions or wrong deiss. so, it is unfortunate. >> reporter: "action news" has learned this is not officer cathey's first run in with the the law he was sworn to up hole. in 2011 a 23 year-old the cathey was accuse of

assaulting his former girlfriend and charged with robbery. but prosecutors reportedly dropped the charges because the the victim was a no show in court. documents revealed he was fired in january of 2012 but the fop for the and got him reinstated in february of 204. residents live around the 12th district say that there are a lot of good officers here but it appears that cathey has had more chances then he deserve. >> we trust our police, you know, we expect them to be a role model for the children that are out here, you know our young people. so it is just sad. >> reporter: philadelphia police released a statement saying that this tenth takes these types of incidents seriously and behavior that does ant by by the the law department policy, and the the highest level of integrity and services will not be tolerated. police commissioner has suspended cathey with the intent to dismiss. department says that there have have been in other reports of damages or injuries from this incident, and internal affairs is

investigate to go see where the the the officer was drinking, while on the job, walter. reporting live from southwest philadelphia this evening kenneth moton for chan will he will six "action news". >> thank you for that. we have breaking news out of delaware county where an off-duty darby boro police officer has been shot the inside a home in glenn olden. shooting happened 4:30 this a afternoon on the 600 block of magnolia avenue. there are few details right now but we know the the officer was shot in the shoulder and taken to fits girl mercy and then transferred to penn presbyterian medical center. so far no word on his condition. police in philadelphia are searching for gunman who shot and killed a 24 year-old man inside of his own apartment overnight. it happened at 1:00 a.m. on the 4300 block of elizabeth treat in the frankford section of the city. investigators say someone forced their way inside, opened fire and simply took off. no arrests so far and no word on a possible motive. and police in philadelphia also looking for the person who stabbed a man, inside of an apartment today in

wynfield. it happened at 3:00 this afternoon on the 4900 block of wynfield avenue. the victim was stab in the chest and was taken to penn presbyterian in critical condition. so far no arrests here either. a 19 year-old man from bridesberg has been charged with the murder of his mother and stabbing of his grandmother. it happened yesterday morning inside a home on the 2800 block of reynolds street. investigators say zachary richard, stabbed to death his mother, his grandmother is in critical and stable condition at aria torresdale. investigators say the family had been living in a home filled with filth. fire fighters in north philadelphia had quite a battle on their hand early this morning when a vacant warehouse went up in flames. the it took hours to get this four alarm blaze under control and when the fire was out, problems lingered. up. you can see fire fighters are still out here on the scene. they have been out here all day working to get the hot spots out. now, this was a vacant building but this business just closed in january. there was still a lot of furniture and things inside and fire fighters believed that may be why and what fueled the fire for so long. just after 2:30 this morning flames erupted turning into this massive fire inside a vacant building that took up mess of the 2400 block of west west moreland street. the the 65,000 square foot former manufacturing company was for sale. the fire so rampant it took three and a half hours to get under control and it is four alarms. >> initial incident commander decided to go with an exterior defensive operation which was a very good call because it was a vacant a property. we don't risk life for vacant property. >> reporter: thirty-three pieces of equipment and 120 fire fighters responded to the building. part of the roof and interior walls collapsed. luckily no one was inside.

new details are emerging about the the pilot who may have deliberately crashed a plane in the french alps killing all 150 people on board. doctors found andreas lubitz apartment indicates that the pilot was too mentally ill to work. what he is prescribed large amounts of medications, for his illness and there were also indications that he was suffering from a severe case of depression. investigators also revealed that lubitz sought treatment for vision problems but may have compromised his ability to fly. the investigators say thinks all information that he kept concealed from his employer, germanwings airlines. abc's world news saturday will have much more on the crash and more about the the 27 year-old pilot starting at 6:30 right here after "action news". back here at home in montgomery county some neighbors were given the opportunity to sit down with the people to serve and protect their community and chat over a cup have of joe.
