killed by gunfire inside his very own home. saturday night, i'm walter perez and the big story on "action news" is murder of off duty darby borough police officer. he was 26 and also volunteered as a firefighter. tonight he was found murdered inside his home. ken joins us live in darby borough with the full story kenneth. >> walter, darby township police investigators told us this off-duty police officer was found in second floor bedroom with a gunshot wound to his chest. police chief would not give us details on possible person of interest or suspect he would only say there was no danger to the public. >> the shots fired call came in 4:30 p.m. a man was hit inside this glenolden home magnolia township. they would soon learn victim was a cop. 6-year-old four year veteran on darby borough police force.

>> he was shipping star even tempered nice guy and anybody that met him he always had a good word for them. >> neighbors say the borough officer lived here with his girlfriend and there were ongoing domestic problems and they saw darby township police respond in the past. sources say the woman was inside the home when off duty officer was shot and transported to penn presbyterian medical center where he later died. >> right now it's current investigation why the darby police department and darby borough and delaware county cid were in full swing with this thing. probably we'll know more in the morning. >> "action news" learned the officer was also a volunteer firefighter for the yaden fire company. and neighbors knew him as a great guy. >> whenever something like this happens it's just way too sad that somebody's life is cut short like that for basically no reason.

when fellow officers spotted him and damaged patrol car outside the twelfth police district in southwest philadelphia. a supervisor says officer kathy had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. when kathy was taken into custody he became violent and fought with fellow officers. >> we trust our police you know? we expect them to be a role model for the children that are around here you know our young people. it's just sad. >> philadelphia police released a statement saying this department takes these types of incidents seriously and behavior that doesn't abide by the law department folly and highest level of integrity and service will not be tolerated. kathy has been us is spened with intent to dismiss. >> a rage are warehouse fire in north philadelphia hit four alarms before firefighters were able to get the upper happened and tonight the effects are still lingering fire broke out before 2:30 this evening and engulfed most of the building on
