entire afternoon temperatures were very chilly with highs topping out in the upper 30s and low 40s throughout the area. we saw a little bit of light snow. let's go live on sky 6 looking live from temple university camera you can see we're clear it's a nice, quiet morning it's blustery and cold with temperatures in the 20s. we're sitting at 26 degrees here in philadelphia. 24 in trenton. allentown, 22. poconos 15 reading 23. atlantic city coming in at 26. you factor in the winds it feels like the teens out there this morning not feeling like spring feeling like the middle of february, satellite and radar, here's the good news all the clouds and yesterday's flurries pulling out to sea, we should see a decent amount of sunshine later on. that will help us out a little bit. our normal is 57 degrees, we're shooting for highs in the mid

40s this afternoon. we'll say 20s and 30s throughout the morning hours lots of sunshine, 3 4:00 p.m. we're up to 46, 47. a little bit better than yesterday. when i come back in just a few minutes we'll talk about much milder temperatures in the seven day forecast. guys. >> chris, thank you. overnight "action news" was there as police look for evidence inside a home where a delaware police officer was shot. he died later at the hospital. the 26-year-old darby borough police officer was shot in the chest while off duty. investigators say the public is not in danger. they seem to know who pulled the trigger. "action news" reporter, kenneth moten brings us more from glenolden. >> reporter: the shots fired call came in around 4:30 p.m. a man was hit inside this glenolden home in darby township. investigators would learn the victim was a cop. 26-year-old four year vernon the

darby police force. >> he was a shining star in the department. even tempered, nice guy anybody that met him he always had a good word for him. >> reporter: neighbors say he lived here with his girlfriend there were on going domestic problems, sources say the woman was inside the home when the off duty officer was shot. he was transported to penn presbyterian medical center where he later died. >> it's a current investigation by the darby township police, darby bias or prejudice row delaware county cid. we're in full swing with this thing. probably we'll know more in the morning. >> reporter: "action news" has learned the officer was a volunteer firefighter for the yeadon fire company. neighbors knew him as a great guy. >> whenever something like this hams it's way too sad that somebody's life is cut short for

basically no reason. >> reporter: inside the borough police department we could see fell officers and co-workers consoling each other. >> we lost a member of our family needlessly, there's not a lot more we can say until the investigation is completed. >> reporter: investigators searched the officer's home for clues overnight. police will not confirm if his girlfriend is in custody again nobody has been charged. we learned the name of the officer, but darby borough asked that we not release it after until after his mother had more time to notify family members. fire damages a well-known bakery in north philadelphia. the action cam is at denise's delicacy. it appears to have started in the kitchen. an elderly couple who lived

next-door did have to be treated by medics they were not taken to the hospital. no word on what sparked the fire which opened in 1990 which is a neighborhood staple. new video overnight shows an air canada plane skidded off the runway at the halifax airport. it made an bankrupt landing in bad weather. 25 people were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. the halifax region is currently under a snowfall warning. several flights at the airport have been canceled. the new york city is reporting startling information about the co-pilot who allegedly crashed be that germanwings planes in the alps killing all 150 people on board. the times said he had vision problems and troubling information was pulled from his trash. >> reporter: andreas lubitz looked like the picture of good health. 27 years old an after -- avid.

runner with a long time girl. now investigators are uncovering secrets he didn't reveal. >> certain illnesses are not tolerated and you're not allowed to fly. >> reporter: two doctors notes where found in the trash indicating he was too sick to work. investigators searching andreas lubitz have found larges e large amounts of medication for a psycho sematic illness. the medical mystery deepening the new york times reporting that andreas lubitz had gotten treatment for vision problems a threat to his piloting career. conditions abc news has not confirmed. >> fell germanwings pilot said he left a normal impression.

valve was tampered with or turned back on after they left. two people are still missing. gunfire erupted during spring break at the panhandle. the victims were found across the -- from the home of the party. at the time of the gunfire he was free on bond. three of the wounded students attend alabama a and m university this morning. it's unclear what set this off. "good morning america" will have more on the spring break party shooting after this newscast. a philadelphia police officer was arrested after investigators say he drove a patrol car drunk on duty. we are told he didn't realize he was driving around on three flat tires. officer darrell casey just finish oifed shift.

chances in the forecast once again monday and tuesday we'll talk about that in a few minutes, it turns milder by week's end. guys. >> chris thank you. new this morning a man was rushed to the hospital after a fire in the germantown section of philadelphia. crews were called out to a home on the 200 block of east ashmeade street. flames were shooting from the first and second floor. the man was taken to einstein for smoke inhalation. else in stable condition. no word on what caused the fire. overnight police scoured a delaware county home for clues in the shooting that claimed the life of a police officer. he was gunned down while off duty. detective's are piecing together what led up to the tragedy. "action news" was there as police looked for evidence inside the home on magnolia avenue in glenolden. the officer was found yesterday in the second floor belt room with a gunshot wound to the chest. he was with a 26-year-old member of the darby borough police

was killed at the scene. john homes was paralyzed and died from complications in 1992. the sniper was found not guilty by reason of insanity. officers recounted the moments of that night. >> we got separated, i want up through the alley away, i was coming up flue this alleyway when i heard shots. >> it seems like yesterday, at what also a tragedy. we all had a connection to it, we showed up here today. >> reporter: every year on the 28th, the police officer are honored at the headquarters, but this year they wanted a plaque in the place where the crime happened. >> this year on the 40th anniversary, they wanted to expand that. this year they got permission from the residents themselves.

weather we've been seeing recently. sky6 live hd taking a live look at philadelphia international. 27 degrees outside yes hello spring. march is almost over. >> what a horrible weekend chris. >> reporter: you don't know what the windchill is right now. 27 that's the air temperature. as we go over to storm tracker 6 live double scan we have windchills right now in the teens, actually they are in the single digits in the poconos. it's unusually cold. the first week of spring we continue to see february-like temperatures. good news, double is clear we won't see any flurries today. there's the view at the philadelphia international. officially we're coming in at 26 degrees with the winds out of the northwest at 10 miles per hour. that's giving a windchill of 16 degrees. atlantic city, 27 degrees, you can see the camera dancing around a little bit. we have a breeze out of the northwest at 13 miles per hour. gusting in the 20s windchill of 16. northwest chester county high thin clouds, 23 degrees, windchill of 12.

walter out with friends on a friday evening in 2009. he loved to go to the khyber pass because they had music. champion, his roommate and a couple of orioles ordered pizza -- others ordered pizza. >> they ate the pizza. the roommate was escorting them down the street, when his roommate came home, my son was shot twice. >> reporter: champion was found 9:30 p.m. he was taken to the hospital and died the following morning. >> most thing about my son is how much we loved him and miss him. >> reporter: you could be eligible for up to 20/20 thousand dollars that could lead to an arrest and conviction of the person possible.

campaign you said you were against a sales tax increase because it placed an unfair burden on low income citizens. >> i thought we should be careful about the tales sax increase because -- sales tax increase, because it's has a regreasive nature -- regressive nature to it. the unfair part of the tax system is how we raise many for public education. too much is on the shoulders of property taxpayers. i listened and what i heard my overall proposal holistically including a severance tax which most pennsylvanians want, i think the proposal is something that people should like. >> you're a democratic governor, both houses in the legislature are controlled by republicans. one might suspect that the stage is set for continued gridlock in the commonwealth of
