minutes when i see you again. guys. >> overnight "action news" was there as police look for evidence inside a home where a delaware county police officer was shot. he died later at the hospital. the 26-year-old darby police officer was shot in the chest while off duty. investigators say the public is not in danger, they seem to know who pulled the trigger. "action news" reporter, kenneth moten brings us more from glenolden. >> reporter: the shots fired call came in around 4:30 p.m. a man had been hit inside this glenolden home in darby township. investigators and neighbors learned the victim was a cop 26-year-old four-year vernon the darby police force. >> he was a shining star in the department. he was an even tempered nice guy. >> reporter: neighbors say the burrow officer lived here with his girlfriend. there were on going domestic problems.

they saw darby township police respond in the past. police say the woman was inside the home when the off duty officer was shot. he was transported to pen presbyterian medical center where he died. >> it's a current investigation by the darby police department, darby borough delaware county cid. we're in full swing with this thing. probably we'll know more in the morning. >> reporter: "action news" as learned the officer was a volunteer firefighter for the jade yeadon fire company. neighbors knew him as a great guy. >> whoever something like this happens it's way too sad somebody's life is cut short for no reason. >> reporter: inside the police department saturday night we could seal fell officers and co-workers consoling each other. >> we lost a member of our family needlessly and there's not a lot more we can say until the investigation is completed.

>> reporter: investigators searched the officer's home for clues overnight. police will not confirm if his girlfriend is in custody. again, no one has been charged. we learned the name of the officer, but darby borough decided not to release it after his grieving mother requested more time to notify other family members. reporting in darby borough kenneth moten channel 6 "action news." >> new this morning fire has damaged a well-known bakery in philadelphia. the action cam was at denise's delicacy. officials say the fire started in the kitchen. an elderly couple who lived next-door had to be treated by medics but were not taken to the hospital. the bakery opened in 1990 is a neighborhood staple. new video overnight shows an air canada plane that skidded off the runway at halifax

airport. the plane made a rough landing in bad weather. 25 people were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. the halifax region is under a snowfall warning. several flights have been canceled. >> new york times is reporting startling information about the co-pilot who allegedly crashed the germanwings plane in the alps killing all 150 people on board. the times said he had vision problems and troubling information was pulled from his trash. abc alex markward has more. >> reporter: andreas lubitz looked like the picture of good health, 27 years old an avid. runner and promising clear. now investigators are uncovering medical secrets. >> current illnesses will

rule is a better way to go. >> reporter: today people filling up french church for a special mass to honor all the crash victims looking for comfort as the search for answers continues. alex markward abc news, germany. an explosion that leveled three apartment buildings in east village. the workers shut off a faulty gas connection an hour before the blast. the gas line is in a restaurant and leads to an apartment above. the question is whether the valve was tampered with or turned back on after they left. two people in the restaurant are still missing. merge crews are searching for them. gunfire erupted at a spring break party on the florida panhandle. 7 people were wounded three critically. police arrested a 22-year-old suspected shooter. at the time of the gunfire he was free on bond on a drug

possession charge in alabama. the detectives questioned two of his companions, three 69 wounded students attend alabama a and m university. this morning it is unclear what set all this off. "good morning america" weekend will have more on the spring break party shooting at 8:00 a.m. after this newscast. we have breaking news, right now an accident that is brought traffic to a standstill on the expressway. it happened in winslow. the driver lost control and hit another vehicle. state police have the westbound lanes stopped while they investigate. a philadelphia police officer was arrested after investigators say he drove his patrol car drunk on duty. he didn't realize he was driving around on three flat tires. fell officers spotted him and his damaged patrol car outside

the 12th police district in southwest philadelphia. a supervisor said he had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. when he was taken into custody he became violent and fought with fellow officers. >> we trust our police, you know, we expect them to be a role model for the children that are around here, our young people so it's just sad. >> philadelphia police released a statement saying this department takes these types of incidents seriously and behavior that doesn't abide by the law department policy and the highest level of integrity and service will not be to recall rated. he was suspended with intent to dismiss. saint france presided over mass in vatican square. popelm sunday mass.

>> those are some of the calls to 911 on thursday when a tornado touched down in moore oklahoma. many people were caught off guard by the twister and driving on the roads. several homes and elementary schools were damaged and amazingly there were no serious injuries reported. >> reporter: it only takes one storm to produce damaging winds like that. because of all the cold we've had it's put a damper on severe weather season. this past weeks the first week during the entire year that the storm prediction center issued a tornado watch or severe thunderstorm watch. but, again things got active this past week they will get active as the cold breaks and

the pattern changes to milder weather. double scan live showing nothing going on, no flurries this morning. today looks better than yesterday. but it's still going to be chilly compared to averages for this time of the year. normally we should be around 57. we'll be at least ten degrees cooler than that when all is said and done. 26 degrees dewpoint, 5. winds out of the northwest at 14 miles per hour. that's giving a windchill at 16 degrees. wind speeds out of the northwesterly generally five to 15 miles per hour. 12 in wilmington. 10 miles per hour in dover. there you can, there are the windchills. actually we're down to 14 in philadelphia. 14 in allentown. feels like 11 in the poconos. 17 for trenton and ten degrees that's what it feels like in lancaster this morning. satellite and radar, the sun will shine brightly out there today. here's what else left of yesterday's system. it produced a swath of snow from alongside island to new england boston picked up 2 1/2 inches.

they saw 2 to 4 inches of snow for this never-ending winter. yesterday we saw a few flurries, today walls and walls of sunshine. this storm storm track is running like this. they will pull east in the next 48 hours. each and every one brings showers. the farther north and west you go there's a chance of snow showers especially for the lehigh valley. for today, high pressure 've mooing in from the west. still dealing with the chilly northwestly breeze -- northwest erly breeze. not as bad as yesterday. we have snow showers north and west it will not be sticking to roads, by afternoon skies brighten up and we see the

return of sunshine. tuesday morning we do it all over again clipper system number two. this time the rains will be heavier around the delaware valley. snows in the poconos getting into the wilks-berre scranton area. the rain will slow things down tuesday morning. tuesday afternoon we catch a lull in the action and by evening we see a steadier heavier band of moisture pull through, this is 6:30, that will produce a half inch of rain when all is said and done. monday not an issue tuesday is a little bit messy. sunshine today breezy, and increasing shower threat overnight. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, final shows warmth right, 47 today, 58 tomorrow. morning shower, otherwise clouds breaking for sunshine. tuesday, morning showers possible. we catch a lull in the action around midday more rain arriving

wall-to-wall blue skies. 6:00 p.m., 45 degrees. we have a clipper train excuse me heading this way over the next couple of days. there's a clipper across high plains and another one across alberta. the jet stream or the storm track is running like this, so above these storms -- both of these storms will make their way into the delaware valley. clipper systems are best known for reinforcing cold air and producing snow. this is northwestern canada, it's actually much milder here than it is in the delaware valley right now. there's not too much cold left here the arctic reservoir is running dry. we have another chilly one today and cool for tuesday. the pattern will switch to this, wind shift out of the southwest and that bring milder conditions, temperatures in the 60s believe it or not thursday and friday. we are so deserving at this

rushed to the hospital in the germantown section of philadelphia. crews were called on out at 5:00 a.m. flames were shooting from the first and second floor. the man was taken to einstein for moke, he is in stable condition -- smoke inhalation, else in stable condition. no word on what caused the fire. overnight police scoured the delaware county home for clues in the shooting of a darby borough police officer. >> "action news" was there as they looked for evidence inside the home. the officer was found in the second floor belt room with a gunshot wound to the chest. police have not identified the victim, we know he was a member of the darby police force and volunteer firefighter for the yeadon fire company. >> a shining star in the department. he was an even tempered nice guy, anybody that met him he

part of the roof and intrrp wall -- interior wall walls collapsed. the train runs along the wall that is in danger of collapsing. hundreds attended a memorial to remember three police officers shot 40 years ago in burlington county. annie mccormick has the story. >> reporter: police officers from across the state and south jersey marched through mount holly recreating a funeral procession from 40 years ago. march 28 marks the anniversary of the 1975 good friday massacre where a lone gunman fired shots from his burlington county home. two police officers were killed at the scene and one was paralyzed and died from complications in 1992. the sniper was found guilty by reason of insanity and remains

in a psychiatric institution. >> reporter: retired officers recounted the moments of that night. >> we got separated. i want up through the alleyway. i heard shots. >> it seemed like yesterday it it was a tragedy we all had a connection to it showed up here today. >> reporter: every year on march 28, the police officers are honored at the mount holly police department where there is a memorial stone but this year they said they wanted a plaque in the very place where the crime happened. of. >> this year the 40th anniversary, we wanted to expand that. we got permission from the owners, the residents themselves. police flue family members in is to see the unveiling. >> what the police department atlantic city done is absolutely beautiful and amazing. >> it's so nice after all these

years to know that my dad is remembered. >> reporter: 40 years past, but the three fallen officers will not be forgotten. and family members have a place to remember. >> you get used to having someone missing in your life. >> reporter: in mount holly, new jersey, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> now new information just in an accident brought traffic to a standstill on the atlantic city expressway. police told us the vehicle that lost control slammed into a maintenance truck. the truck was diverting traffic from a previous crash. the vehicle flipped over into the woods and crews had to free the driver.

the driver is in critical condition and flown to cooper university hospital. the westbound lanes of the ac expressway will be closed for at least another hour. 7:37 a pennsylvania state trooper shot outside his barracks spoke publicly since the attack. trooper alex douglass made remarks during a ceremony for brian dixon. both were ambushed outside the barracks in pike county. >> i feel better i'm getting better i'm off crutches and on a cane. >> he said he hopes to return to the state police doing the job he loves. eric frein was captured after a 48-day manhunt and remains behind bars awaiting trial. trooper douglas said he is forever grateful for the community support. >> happening today runners are lacing up for the city's new

clear skies 26 degrees, that's the present air temperature in philadelphia. winds out of the northwest at 14 miles per hour. that's giving a windchill of 14. pretty much the same thing in atlantic city maybe a little bit milder, but not much. 28 degrees windchill 19. winds out of the northwest apt 10 miles per hour gusting to 15 miles per hour. 24 in trenton. 23 in allentown. reading, 21. lancaster coming in at 20. poconos 15 degrees again these are air temperatures. wildwood, 28. dover, 25. millville, 25. we're some five to 15 degrees colder than we were yesterday at this time. it gets worse and worse. fortunately as we look ahead over the next few coming days. we have milder temperatures on the horizon as winds shift out of the southwest. that will finally get us up into the 60s where we belong thursday and friday. mid atlantic this morning 5 degrees in binghamton. 8 in buffalo. 15 in pits pittsburgh.

we have a 4-foot snow pack across quebec and toronto. as long as that is there it promotes cold. we have to get rid of the snow. unfortunately it will take another week or so. we have another chilly one coming tuesday and there's another cold shot coming for easter. the question is how far south does it go? some of the forecast modeling brought it as far south as the carolinas. we'll have to watch that closely over the next few days. in the meantime, this arrives tomorrow morning this arrives tuesday morning. it's a series of clipper systems that will bring showers to the area over the next 48 hours. lots of sunshine, winds out of the west, northwest keeps it cold in the mid 40s. here's clipper system number one, a couple of showers tomorrow morning. you can see how skinny this band is the. we're not talking about a lot of

heavy rain. just a few showers snowflakes north and west, tomorrow afternoon is fine. monday night into tuesday morning, the cloud increase, clipper system number two more showers west of the stay snowflakes for the poconos. another shower pulls through in the afternoon and evening hours. some of these will be heavier. monday doesn't look all that balanced. tuesday, gray skies and periods of rain. rainfall totals it will range anywhere from a quarter to a half inch. wednesday and thursday, the pattern improves. forecast for today we'll go 47 degrees, the normal 57. dover, 47. reading, 45. accuweather says mostly sunny and chilly. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast shows 58 degrees for tomorrow. after that morning shower tomorrow afternoon doesn't look that bad. we'll see the return of sunshine, much milder no breeze 58 degrees, at least not a strong breeze.

>> we start the at 4 months. >> reporter: peanut allergies boomed in the past 20 years despite efforts to keep high-risk kids away from peanuts. >> reporter: in israel where peanut snacks are common, allergies are rare. so doctors went the other direction showing that early frequent exposure tells the developing immune system that peanuts are normal not harmful. >> it dropped 50 to 80%. >> reporter: jennifer said she didn't know what to expect. >> nobody has any food allergies. >> reporter: doctors are working on the perfect timing and amounts for exposure, some will develop allergies, so it's important to do this with a pediatrician's help. doctors thinks this could be the future path for treating a wide variety of allergies. erin o'hern channel 6 "action news."
