hospital in the germantown section of philadelphia. crews were called out at 5:00 a.m. flames were shooting from the first and second floor. crews were ain't to get the fire under -- were able to get the fire control in ten minutes. a total of seven people are being helped by the red cross. no word on what caused the fire. police look into the death of one of their own. they are looking into what led to a deadly shooting of a 26-year-old darby blimp. he was off duty -- darby police officer. he was off duty at the time. kenneth moten has more. >> reporter: an officer was shot in home in glenolden. 26-year-old four-year vernon the darby police force.

>> he was a shining star, and even tempered nice guy. >> reporter: neighbors say the borough officer lived with his girlfriend and there were i don't on going domestic problems. sources say the woman was inside the home when the off duty officer was shot. he was transported to penn presbyterian medical center where he died. it's a investigation by darby borough and delaware county cid. we're in full swing with this thing. we'll know more in the morning. >> reporter: "action news" learned that the officer was a volunteer firefighters for the yeadon fire company. neighbors knew him as a great guy. >> whenever something like this happens it's way too sad that somebody's life is cut short like that for basically no reason. >> reporter: inside the borough

police department saturday night we could see fell officers and co-workers consoling each other. >> it's like we lost a member of our family, needlessly. there's not a lot more we can say until the investigation is completed. >> reporter: investigators searched the officer's home for clues overnight. police would not confirm if his girlfriend is in custody. nobody has charged. we learned the name of the officer, but darby bore roy decided not to release after his grieving mother requested more time to notify other family members. reporting in darby borough kenneth moten channel 6 "action news." >> a philadelphia police officer has been arrested and suspended from the force for allegedly driving his patrol car drunk on duty. police say the officer didn't realize he was driving on three flat tires. officer darrell casey just finished shift when he was spot the outside the 12th police

everybody, the exception being millville and wildwood. 17 in reading. 18 in allentown and feels like 18 in trenton. the good news there's a lot of sunshine out there, that will help things out, the angle of the sun being as high as it is, it will warm you up a little bit. we have the winds out of the northwest we're driving that cold air into the lower 48 from canada. today is another blustery day. it will get better tuesday and beyond as the winds shift out of the southwest and we tap into warmth across the dixie south. what's ahead in the future we have a couple of systems we're watching these are called clipper systems, they are moisture-starved systems that provide cooler air. both these systems will provide us with wet weather over the next 48 hours. temperature-wise this is the air mass that's getting pulled into the lower 48 from the clippers. it's milder here than it is across the delaware valley. so again this isn't all that

bad. tuesday will be a cooler day because we'll have a lot of clouds out there and the sun will not have a chance to do its thing. tuesday a coorld -- cooler day wednesday and thursday, milder temperature in time 60s. monday morning 80:00 showers for the entire delaware valley, the farther no matter you go there could snowflakes mixing in the lehigh valley doesn't amount to all that much. monday afternoon bright and sunny, temperature across south jersey and delaware, closing in on 60 degrees. tuesday morning here's clipper system number two. more showers in time for the morning commute. more snowflakes flying across the poconos same drill not too heavy. tuesday afternoon, the back edge of that clipper swings through this is heavier moisture, but temperatures are warmer, so it's rain for everybody, including philadelphia allentown and the poconos. that's on board over the next 48 hours. today is quiet monday and

winslow township camden county. a driver lost control and slammed into a maintenance truck. the suv flipped over into the woods and crews had to free the driver. the driver was flown to cooper university hospital in critical condition. the maintenance worker was not seriously hurt. police in delaware county are trying to piece together what triggered a shooting that claimed the life of an off-duty police officer. the officer was found yesterday in a second floor bedroom with a gun shot wound to the chest. police have yet to identify the victim. we know he was 26-year-old member of the darby borough police force and volunteer firefighter for the yeadon fire company. >> he was a shining star, even tempered nice guy.

everybody who met him, he had a good word for him. neighbors say he lived with his girlfriend and there was on going domestic problems. the woman was inside the home when the officer was shot. it's not clear who pulled the trigger. new information this morning in the investigation into a gas explosion and fire that leveled three apartment buildings in manhattan. consolidated edison said it found a hazardous situation months before the blast. utility workers discovered the gas line to a restaurant was illegally tamed and multiple leaks. they added the restaurant was the only customer authorized to receive gas. nearly two dozen people were hurt in the explosion the search continues for two people still missing. >> more than two dozen people were hurt after a plane skidded off the runway at the halifax airport. this video shows air canada flight ac-624 as the sits on the side of the runway. the plane from toronto made an

abrupt landing in bad weather. 25 people were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. the halifax region is under a snowfall warning several flights have been canceled. investigators say andreas lubitz the co-pilot who is believed to have deliberately crash a plane into the french alps had signature fabts amounts of -- significant amounts of medication for psycho sematic condition. there was evidence he was extremely depressed and had vision problems. 150 people were killed when andreas lubitz crashed a germanwings aircraft into a mountain. several people including three college students were shot in a spring break hot spot on the florida panhandles. among the victims, three alabama university students. one is in critical condition. the campus sheriff said with all

heavy. the nobody was hurt, the house was heavily damaged. investigators are on scene trying to figure out what sparked the fire. a north philadelphia breakerry was badly damaged at a fire. it happened at denise's delicacy and it happen at a worse time with the wedding season getting underway. >> reporter: this is the sweet spot on north 22nd street. take a look at the store. take a look at the video from early this morning. ment blaze broke out they think around 2:40 a.m. that's when it was reported by an outside cleaning crew. fire crows responded it took an hour to get it under control. the bulk of the fire happened in the rear of the buildings and that's where the main part of the kitchen is.

treated on the scene. the fire marshal has been out here this morning at this point they have not determined a calls. reporting live in north philadelphia. annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." nydia. >> annie we hope they can rebuild soon. a man was rushed to the hospital after a fire in the germantown section of philadelphia. crews were called out to a home on the 200 block of east ashmeade street. cruz got the fire under control in ten minutes. the victim was taken to einstein for smoke. he is in stable condition. search people are being helped by the red cross. no word on what caused the fire. mr. i say -- police in delaware county continue to look into the death of one of their own. they are looking for evidence for what led to the shooting of a 26-year-old darby police officer who was off duty at the time of the shooting. kenneth moten has the details. >> reporter: the shorts fired

call came in around 4:30 p.m. a man was hit inside this glenolden home in darby township. investigators and neighbors would learn the victim was a cop, 26-year-old four year vernon the darby borough police police force. >> he was a shiny star, an even tempered nice guy. anybody that met him he always had a good word for them. >> reporter: neighbors say the borough officer lived with his girlfriend and there were on going domestic problems. they saw police respond in the past. sources say the woman was inside the home when the off duty officer was shot. he was transported to pen presbyterian medical center where he died. >> right now it's a current investigation by the darby police department, darby borough, delaware county cid. we're in full swing with this thing. probably we'll know more in the morning. >> reporter: "action news" has learned the officer was a volunteer firefighter for the

unemployed after he allegedly drove his patrol car drunk while on duty. officer darrell casey was arrested yesterday after fellow officers spotted him outside the 12th police district in he had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. when he was taken into custody he became violent and fought with fellow officers. he was been suspended with intent to dismiss. a trooper who was wounded in an ambush by eric frein spoke for the first time since the attack. alex douglass is seen on the lefter in a ceremony for fellow officer brian dixon. douglass needed 16 surgeryies over the past 6 months including a hip replacement. >> i'm feeling better and

27-year-old richard harris was arrested at the cedar wood apartment complex. he is charged with harassment animal offensive touching and disorderly conduct. he has been released on bail. >> there are lingering effects from the fire at a philadelphia warehouse. we told you about the blaze yesterday morning on "action news." firefighters were called to the warehouse county 2:30. partly of the roof and interior walls collapsed. one of the walls standing needs to be demolished. due to safety concerns, the manayunk norristown regional rail in the back of the warehouse will remain out of the service. christy administration and the democratic legislators seem to agree on the budget. democrats and republicans are at

it's sunny and we have blue skies. we're not expecting anything in the way of cloud cover this morning of this afternoon. it will be chilly like yesterday with highs struggling to get into the mid 40s. we're not seeing any flurries like yesterday at this time. this is the headliner high temperatures have ran from 10 to 16 degrees below normal. thursday was nice, but we only hit that, we hit 67 degrees which ended up being 11 degrees above average. we are there for an hour or so, and then the numbers pulled back down. it's been a tough stretch of weather. 30 degrees in philadelphia. dewpoint, 6. winds out of the north northwest at 14 miles per hour. dealing with the breeze across the entire area. out of the north northwest generally 15 miles per hour. that gives us windchills in the teens and 20s. everybody is up in the 20s now, the exception being the poconos. these areas down in the mid teen
