stumbled across the grisly murder scene. his mother and father both dead. tuesday night jim is off, i'm rick williams. the big story on "action news" is the house of horrors in lower moreland township. kenneth moton on the scene all evening long in the 1100 block of country lane. what is the latest tonight? >> because of the horrific nature of the scene investigatoring taking their time inside the home tonight. at this point they know it appears the wife was killed but are not ready to call it a murder-suicide just yet. a gruesome and horrifying scene in this lower moreland township home. a young boy discovered it his parents dead bodies mutilated. >> it is an awful thing. it's surreal. like a spielberg movie. i can't believe it. >> the son called 911 around 1:00 p.m. first responders police and montgomery county detectives

swarmed the property tucked away on country lane. investigators say the 48-year-old husband and his 43-year-old wife had severe cuts. it appears that the weapon was a chainsaw. >> the death of the female seems to be apparent homicide. however investigation is continuing. this is preliminary at this point. >> the district attorney's office has not released the names of the homeowners but family and friends say they were chris and nicole peppelman who ran this escavating company. and eric shallcross went to high school with nicole. >> out going, everybody loved her. honestly, knock -- nothing bad to say about her. >> he was a great guy to his friend, really to the guys who knew him a good person. >> and the family friends say the marriage was in trouble and the wife along with their three sons, moved out. and the police had responded in the past for domestic issues.

disgruntled former volume fear firefighter took severe action today. he returned to his old job with a gun and held four former co-workers hostage for several minutes. and dann cuellar is live with more. >> the former firefighter has not been charged so we are not releasing his name. upon his arrest making disturbing statements and was immediately transferred to a psychiatric facility. police converged on the la mott firehouse after getting a call at 10:39 a.m. of a man holding four firefighters hostage. jay davis was walking into the firehouse when things got crazy. >> i was walking in trying to get my community service and the firefighters came up and told me to run. >> a former volunteer firefighter who was just let go came in with a gun holding four

without bail. the knock-out blow at a septa stop that we reported at 11:00 caught on surveillance camera. the sucker punch attack at 15th and market yesterday. minutes before the cameras on the train captured a verbal altercation between the young suspects in the blue hoodie and backpack and 60-year-old punch victim in brown jacket and briefcase. the victim was knocked unconscious and in the hospital with a broken jaw. things back to normal along westbound i-78 after a deadly crash early this morning of the driver of a fedex truck killed in the chain-reaction collision in the westbound lanes of i-78 in greenwich township. it started with a disabled car in the far left lane. most vehicles swerved around it but one truck stopped behind it and was hit from behind by the fedex truck. it caused miles of back up and no word on the identity of the

fedex driver who died at the scene. shocking news tonight from lufthanza. officials admit they knew the co-pilot of the crashed germanwings plane suffered from severe depression but they hired him anyway. andreas lubitz informed the airline of his troubles during flight training in 2009. he is the man the investigators say committed suicide and mass murder by crashing the airbus into the french alps one week ago killing all 150 people aboard. now we learned at least one of the passengers recorded the final terrifying moments on a cell phone video. investigateors will not confirm it but others watched it 15 seconds of panic. >> you here the sounds that we believe are the knocking on the door. you see the chaotic scene. you're able to tell that there are people although fortunately

i might say you are not able to identify any of them. you know it is a very disturbing scene. >> as investigators dig deeper into lubitz's life before he was a pilot he was treated for suicide tendencies. even up to the day to the crash the doctors issued him a sick note that would have kept him out of the cockpit. the investigation into the death of a vineland new jersey man dying while in police custody. officers are not disclosing the man's identity or the situation that led to his arrest. sources fell "action news" the man was taken into custody in the 100 block of grape street. police say the man was not shot. new jersey state police are assisting the cumberland county's prosecutors office in the investigation. the south jersey fire chief caught on camera dropping his pants has resigned. the atlantic city fire chief dennis brooks put on administrative leave when the

video was released. a security guard asked brooks to remove all metal items and he dropped his pants of the incident happened in february in the atlantic city public safety building. a 14-year-old boy has been shot at 13th and christian in the hawthorne section of south philadelphia earlier today. the boy was shot in the back side and rushed to children's hospital for treatment. police are searching for three juveniles who fled the scene. tonight we learned a body pulled from the schuylkill river friday was that of a missing northeast philadelphia man. 69 year old veto maglio disappeared in december. and a few days later his s.u.v. found abandoned and torched. and he died to multiple gunshot wounds to the head a homicide. the police have not made arrests or figured out the motive. from the delaware news room the results of a commission evaluating the wilmington police department were released this evening. the consultant found the

not your typical rescue for the u.s. coast guard after the coast of massachusetts. enduring 10-foot waves and gusting winds, they rushed to the aid of a stranded pirate ship and its crew members. the sails were wrapped around the mast and they tried to tow it back to shore but the line broke due to the dangerous sea conditions. so one by one the stranded crew members had to jump onto motorized life boats. one man suffered a head injury during the leap and had to be air lifted to the hospital. no one else was hurt. indiana's governor admitted he mishandled the passage of a religious freedom law, allowing people and companies to choose who they do business with based on their personal religious beliefs. critics argue that the law would allow businesses to turn away gays and lesbians.

after first standing his ground the governor now sense that it is time to amend the law. >> it would be helpful to move legislation this week that makes it clear that this law does not give business as right to deny services to anyone. >> the governor wants a reinvestigation in the law's language sent to his desk by the end of the week. more than a dozen other states have similar laws already in place. and today arkansas lawmakers passed their own version of the religious freedom bill causing so much controversy in indiana. legislation meant by protest and criticism in the state capital today. it now goes to the republican governor who said in the past that he could sign such a measure. and terri schiavo's memory honored today. today is the 10th anniversary of her death. the event benefits the terri schiavo life and hope network, free resource for patients and families facing life hospital threatening situations.
