saturday night i'm walter perez. thousands of volunteers descend on city parks to spruce things up for spring. plus an arrest is made in connection with the abduction and torture of the woman from a parking garage in center city. but the the big story on "action news" is mother accused of the unthinkable, investigators say she abandoned her severely disable son in the woods and left him for days and they say he did it to visit her boyfriend in maryland. "action news" reporter ann mccormack joins us live from children's hospital of philadelphia with the full story, annie. >> reporter: walter, even though victim is 21 years old he does remain here at children's hospital of philadelphia because doctors are familiar with him and his

condition since he has been in and out of this hospital since he was a young boy. the mother has not been charged just yet but we are told charges including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment are expect to come down tonight. police tell us this is one of the of the worst cases of neglect they have ever seen. >> this kiddies obviously a fighter. just unbelievable how we found him. to see that kid laying there it is heart breaking that another human especially your mother can tree someone like that. >> reporter: friday night a manmade a discovery at 59th and cobbs creek parkway. police say the the 21 year-old victim is quadriplegic cerebral palsy confined to the wheelchair hain has no verbal communication skills. police say the young man's mother laid him on the ground and left him here for a week with only a blanket and a bible. >> sometime around 11:00 a.m., the mother went to visit her boyfriend, down in maryland, over in montgomery county. and, i believe she played the child into cobbs creek parkway there, in the 59th street.

right off the parkway. >> reporter: investigators say special need man attend the high school of the future at forty-second and parkside. the the school became concerned and could not reach the mom so they phoned an aunt. once in touch with the mother authorities say that she lied. >> she indicated to both family members and police officer that the child was with her down with her boyfriend in maryland. >> reporter: police say the mother lives here in the 5700 block of baltimore with a 16 year-old child and the victim. neighbors who did not know them were appall. police say he is lucky to be alive. >> that is your blood. that is your son. you gave birth to him. >> he has a cut to his back which they are concerned about. they're concern about infection. he is also suffering from dehydration and some malnutrition issues that they are working on at this point. also weather conditions his eyes are having issues at this point. they are having a eye doctors coming into look at those at this point. >> reporter: lieutenant walker tells us that tonight that victim is surrounded by loving

family members, who are taking shifts to make sure that he is not alone while he does recuperate. as for the the boy, as for the mother's boyfriend police also do not believe he was aware of the allegations against the mother. that 16 year-old child that also lives with the mother and rick tim we are told is in the care of family. reporting live outside chap annie mccormack for channel six "action news" walter. thank you. developing news search for suspects who abducted and tortured a woman who works on jewelers row last week. investigators made an arrest and they say he was hiding out all the way down in south carolina "action news" reporter kenneth moton joins us live from police headquarters with the full story, kenneth? >> reporter: walter, 31 year-old khiry gay has been sitting in the south carolina jail since last night. we just left his mother's home in olney. even though he has been in trouble with the law before, kidnapping and torture are out of character. law enforcement up and down east coast have been on the hunt for this burgundy van and

man responsible for kidnapping torturing, and robbing a jeweler's row employee. while federal, local sources say the atf and u.s. marshals frank down that van at a south carolina hotel and took one man into custody. thirty-one year-old khiry gay from the olney section of philadelphia. it was a week ago when police say three men jumped a five three-year old woman in the parking garage on chestnut street and pulled her into their van. they demanded safe codes and keys to the work place, national watch and diamond exchange. when she didn't have them, the men beat the the victim and then shot her with a taser seven times. the suspects dumped her in the darby boro cemetery after emptying her bank account at several atm's. "action news" has learned thane investigators got a tip that led them to the security inn in lake side i, florence county, south carolina yesterday. the hotel's owners said gay checked in with a family and was taken into custody ten minutes after he arrived. back in 2008, gay was arrested in delaware by state police accused of running heroin from

philadelphia, to virginia. as for this most recent case investigators have not officially named him as a suspect, or charged him. again, gay is being held at the florence county detention center in south carolina. remember police were looking for three men, no word if they have identified any other suspects walter. reporting live here from the philadelphia police headquarters, kenneth moton for channel six "action news". >> thank you kenneth. from our delaware news room four people were injured when their minivan flipped over on i-95 this morning. it happened just before 7:00 o'clock just south of the service plaza in newark. tait police say the driver lost control, sending the vehicle off of the road and into an embankment where it flipped over several times. the four people inside ages 71 42, 13 and ten are all in stable condition. they are all at christiana hospital. in northeast philadelphia a woman was seriously injured during a fire inside of a home, on the 2700 block of meyer place. fire fighters arrived to find
