sarah. >> reporter: monica and rick that's right late this afternoon the atf announced an additional $10,000 reward bringing the reward to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. we also learned more about the suspect already in custody in south philadelphia and how police identified and tracked him down. local and federal authorities are now working together on this investigation. they believe they are looking at least -- for at least two more people involved in this brutal crime. 31-year-old khayree gay of philadelphia appeared before a federal judge in south carolina this afternoon on charges of kidnapping and attempted robbery. he waived extradition and will be returned to philadelphia this week. now federal and local authorities want to find his accomplices and today the the atf increased the reward for information. >> atf today announced a $10,000 reward for any and all information leading to the

identification and arrest of all those responsible for the abduction, the assault and the robbery of the victim in jewelers' row. >> reporter: on april 4th at 4:00 p.m. a 53-year-old woman was abducted from this parking garage in the 700 block of chestnut street as she left her job at the national watch and diamond exchange on jewelers' row. three men forced her into this maroon van. they tortured her. when they she couldn't give them what she wanted she tased her and dumped her in a darby borough cemetery. neighbors said they had seen that van parked outside a apartment building at 1416 clear view. surveillance there and at the jewelry store helped police identify gay. he was arrested friday as he left a hotel in lake city florence county south carolina.

police are urging his accomplices to surrender. >> and i'm trying to make a plea to these two guys that are still out there to contact us cooperate with us, do yourself a favor before we have to come for you. >> reporter: again, the mayor's office initially put up $10,000. now there's an additional 10,000 from the atf bringing the total reward fund to $20,000. police want to know the names and identities of the accomplices. if you know them, you can call the number 1800atf guns any time day or night. live in center city i'm sarah bloomquist, channel6 "action news." rick. >> sarah thank you. a mother and two young children were hurt when their car flipped over in the parking lot of a ymca. police say the accident happened just after 3 o'clock this afternoon in newark delaware on the 2600 block of kirkwood highway. it's unclear what caused the vehicle to overturn. a woman along with two children were taken to christiana hospital.

they're all expected to be okay. a disabled man who was abandoned in the woods remains in the hospital today. philadelphia police say the 21-year-old quadriplegic was left in a pile of leaves sometimes last week in cobbs creek. they believe his mother put him there so she could visit her boyfriend out of state. nyia parler is hospitalized for unknown reasons in maryland but once she's released she'll be extradited to philadelphia to philadelphia to face a list of charges including aggravated assault. >> two men working to expand the king of prussia mall are recovering tonight after they were injured on the job. first responders had to revive one of them this morning. "action news" reporter annie mccormick explains how it all happened. >> reporter: chopper 6hd over the scene just before 7:30 this morning. the call came out there were explosions. according to police, two workers operating a scissor jack lift cut into electric cables with 13,000 volts and 200-amps of electricity running through them. a 36-year-old electrician subcontracted and working for

omni electric became unresponsive his coworkers pulled him to safety and began cpr. they revised the electrician and he was taken to paoli hospital in critical condition. a 27-year-old suffered minor injuries and was also transported. a third man was uninjured but taken to see doctors as a precaution. the accident sparked a small fire that was contained. it all happened during the king of prussia mall's expansion project in the court section of the mall near macy's. >> they were working to cut the power off for i guess what we would consider the old part of the court at king of prussia so that they can then go ahead and start with the new electric system. >> reporter: a local 98ibew union representative arrived on scene a shorter time later. construction operates the site. their president released this statement reading in part "everyone at the mall and involved in the project are primarily focused on the injured individual and are hoping for a fast recovery. a full investigation is being

>> a manhunt is under way in north carolina after a defendly shooting at a community college this morning. man gunned down was a long time employee of the school. officials say the suspect is a former student and once worked with the victim. the shooting sent the campus into lockdown for hours. it has been lifted. counselors are on campus for any faculty or staff who need help. in the past hour, an oklahoma sheriff's deputy was charged with manslaughter after he shot and killed a suspect earlier this month. he told investigators it was all an accident. detectives were conducting an undercover sting on a suspect who they say was illegally selling guns. the suspect escaped arrest and led police on a chase. and that's when officers tackled him to the ground and the deputy shot him. police say that 73-year-old deputy meant to subdue the

suspect and thought he was holding his taser not his handgun. >> time for health check. questions are coming up again whether medical marijuana really works. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman is at the big board tonight with more. ali. >> hey, guys in 23 states including new jersey now allow medical marijuana and there's another push in pennsylvania this year to legalize it but there's been very little scientific research on whether it really works for serious conditions such as epilepsy. but now a real test is under way to find out. enrollment has begun on a study comparing a highly pure if i'd marijuana extract to a dummy drug to see if the liquid pot cuts the number of seizures or severity of seizures. small study out today claims a 50 percent reduction in kids seizures but many families dropped out of the study and it was not compared to a placebo. also today, closer to creating an african.

the concept started in 2013 when discussing hiv tuberculosis and malaria but the ebola epidemic reavenue officials the need for the new agency. it is slated to start later this year. and finally the winter doldrums are over and children and adults are getting outside and keeping busy. for kids, they have spring sports plays dance music programs and many other activities. those extracurricular activities can help kids develop their talents and hearne time management but some can become overscheduled. psychologists say warning signs may be kids who look or act tired or are irritable or grumpy and if their grades start to slip and if you're spending more time in the car going place to place than being at home it may be time to dial it back. experts say time with family or even just doing nothing is

boardwalk in atlantic city it's 52 but inlands a lot warmer. philadelphia 74 degrees. our warmest day of the year so far was last monday when we hit 75 so we're close. allentown at 75, reading 74 and dover currently 75 degrees. it is a breezy day with winds out of the south. wind speeds 60 miles per hour in philadelphia. 18 in wilmington, allentown 17 at the -- as the front approaches tomorrow with these southerly winds it will be picking up moisture and that means we need the umbrellas tomorrow. storm tracker six live double scan showing this is the cold front that i'm tracking and it doesn't have a lot of moisture to work with but if you look to the south you can see showers bubbling up. low pressure will develop along that front and that will enhance the rainfall generally south of philadelphia. it really depends on where that front sets up. but tonight a quiet evening a very comfortable evening the clouds will be thickening in the overnight hours. a few showers arriving by dawn. especially north of philadelphia. overnight low 55 degrees in philadelphia millville 52,

allentown 52 and wilmington 54. so, future tracker really timing out the showers. 7 o'clock in the morning the clouds are here and you can see along that front the showers mainly across the lehigh valley and the poconos. could have a few spotty showers developing to the south. as that front moves through the i-95 corridor around noontime you'll notice that it does pick up the intensity of that rainfall and then it really gets enhanced into the evening commute south of philadelphia, south jersey and delaware looks like you will be receiving the bulk of that rain and that rain will be moving out by tuesday night. future tracker showing this system north of philadelphia you may end up with less than a quarter inch of rain but south some areas could end up with more than an inch and a half of rain so your location really determines how much rain you get. so, the five day at 5:00 showing rain with the heaviest south of philadelphia tomorrow, 66. sunshine back on wednesday though 68 degrees. thursday another nice day partly sunny 63. friday mostly cloudy, a few showers developing, 66.

>> ♪♪ >> "action news" continues with meteorologist adam joseph. jaime apody, rick williams and monica malpass. >> hello again. here's bats happening on "action news" tonight. we're just hours away from the start of a major construction project involving the i676 corridor. we'll explain how it likely will affect your commute. a popular philadelphia eatery is targeted by a greedy thief for the second time in a week. we'll show you the surveillance video and thousands of delaware folks will get free job training thanks to a multi-million dollars grant we have details. >> and now the latest penndot has launched a four year multi-million dollar plan to improve overpasses and bridges over the vine street expressway. phase one of this project is scheduled to take two years. the 19th and 20th street overpasses and the pedestrian bridges that connect logan circle with the free library and the former family court building will be replaced. that means drivers should

expect delays. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live in center city tonight with more. vernon. >> reporter: good evening, rick. the i676 makeover as you said will take over four years and it will cost nearly $65 million in federal funding. take a look right behind me. one of the bridges that does not have to be demolished and replaced but has to be refurbished is the 21st street bridge. the impact will be major on commuters local residents nearby businesses and of course the can cultural institutions. the seven bridges over i676 all of 50's vintage are in bad shape. penndot says some can be repaired but others torn down and replaced. they're talking about bridges from 18th to 22nd street all structurally deficient and penndot says the time to act is now. >> things are safe. they are not weight restricted. we have not had to barricade any portions of them but we are out in front of this

problem and we are concerned that we get this done as soon as possible. >> reporter: penndot engineers looked over the area in question in preparation for startup tomorrow morning preparing for phase one of this four year makeover. >> the first bit of construction that you'll see is the family court pedestrian bridge. that will be under way. the demolition will be under way starting on may fourth. >> reporter: there will obviously be major impact on traffic through this vital area which handles traffic to and from i-76 and i-95. the three lanes each way will be narrowed for work space. a full shut down begins eastbound at midnight tonight until 5:00 in the morning but because of the work these bridges need, these kinds of adjustments will be standard fare for the next four years. >> there's going to be an enormous amount of work being done above the expressway, deck tiff work aesthetic work, planterrings,. >> reporter: questions about the papal visit of september came up right away including the mass here on the parkway expected to draw 2 million. penndot and city hall have an

agreement an plan. >> from september 1st until october 1st there's going to be no construction activity. the contractor will move all the equipment take everything out of the area. >> reporter: now there's more here. further east there is continuing construction work on a mormon church complex that is a very large scale operation. so that means logistics and getting around here and congestion will remain a major factor for a long time to come. live on the ben franklin parkway, vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> vernon thank you. we have more on this construction project including a schedule of the i676 lane closures. it's posted on 6abc.com. we also have a list of suggested detours to help you get around. >> a collision between a dump truck an car in south jersey sent a man to the hospital with serious injuries early this morning. this is the scene along route 130 and high street in burlington. it's still not clear how it

his wife were back in court today for their retrial on child abuse charges. in november a federal judge declared a missis trial against army major john jackson and his wife carolyn. this after prosecutor mentioned the death of one of their children while questioning a witness. the couple is accused of abusing their three adopted children in 2010 when the family was -- prosecutors allege the jacksons often withheld food and water and physically assaulted them. closing arguments are under way in the murder case against maple shade burlington county resident pedro hernandez. he's accused of killing six-year-old etan pats back in 1979. hernandez allegedly confessed to police saying he strangled the little boy in a convenience store basement. the defense says that confession is not credible. the boy's body has never been found but his disappearance led to the nationwide campaign to put missing children's pictures on milk cartons. we have an update tonight to a story "action news" first told you about about a week

and a half ago. authorities say they arrested a man in connection with an attempted murder in wilmington. this is a story our delaware news room has been following. the suspect is 27-year-old thomas rivers. detectives say rivers was wanted for a shooting back on april 3rd at 7th and west streets. the victim suffered serious injuries to his head, chest and face. wilmington police officers stopped rivers last week on a traffic violation and then arrested him. he's being held on $600,000 bail. >> the late he have on the deadly police shooting in south carolina that has that police officer facing murder charges. authorities have released the dash cam audio of the minutes following the shooting. >> everything is okay, okay. i just shot somebody. he's okay. >> well, the voice you heard is that of police officer michael slager. he was talking to another officer following the killing of walter scott after a traffic stop and chase. slager was later heard

laughing after telling the officer that his adrenaline was "pumping during the incident." members of the march two justice organization started their 250-mile trek from staten island to washington, d.c. today. the eight day walk will end with the delivery of a so-called justice package to federal lawmakers. it includes demands for criminal justice reform legislation to end racial profiling. the group also plans to hold rallies in trenton and philadelphia. >> in washington state an investigation is under way after a chink of concrete fell from an overpass and crushed a car. the person inside that car was killed on impact. officials at the scene say the construction crew was installing a sidewalk on the overpass when part of the concrete suddenly gave way. the roadway was shut down for the investigation. still not clear when it will reopen. at least 100 vacationers fell ill with gastrointestinal norovirus on a cruise ship. the cause of the outbreak still not clear but officials

on board say patients got sick at various times throughout the 15 day trip. the ship is now being thoroughly cleaned. most everyone who became ill has since recovered. delaware was awarded a multi-million dollar grant to help folks on food assistance. the u.s.d.a. gave the diamond state nearly $19 million for its job training program called wonder and it matches low income individuals with work and training in one of four career fields. state officials say it will give those folks a chance at working their way to a better life. today federal officials applaud edell -- applauded delaware's plan. >> they presented us with a creative and forward leaning project proposal that aims to for innovation and that's what we were looking for. >> delaware is one of 10 states to get such a grant. officials estimate more than 5,000 residents will benefit from the program in the next three years. meantime from our new

jersey news room a boat that washed ashore in ocean county has been successfully removed. the 77-foot fishing boat ran aground last wednesday. bad weather and high winds kept crews from getting it back out to sea. the coast guard was finally able to tow the boat off shore late saturday night. >> okay. let's time -- it's time to get another update on the highways and by ways. folks trying to get home on a monday night. >> let's go to matt pelman. >> fishing for delays and getting quite the catch as we go to the vine street expressway. heavy traffic in both directions and of course all eyes will be on the vine later tonight as the big construction project that vernon was telling us about gets under way at midnight. expect closures between this point at schuylkill and broad street. midnight to 5:00 a.m. the next few nights. i think that the schuylkill and 95 are going to take the brunt of the detouring traffic. some of the local streets around the vine will also take some detouring traffic and again this project lasting four years, first phase involves setting up the barricades, the barriers and taking away the shoulders so again, starting tonight at

a judge in arizona sentenced her this afternoon for the 2008 murder of her boyfriend travis alexander. arias stabbed him 30 times in retaliation for breaking off the relationship. arias and alexander's sisters both made statements to the judge before that sentencing. >> loved my brother very much and i miss him so much. >> jodi has shown no remorse. she continuously makes atrocious lies about my brother. dragging his name through the mud after she dragged his body through his own blood. i'm truly disgusted. horrified because of were i did and i wish there was some way i could take it back. >> the judge imposed sentencing because jurors could not agree on one. the death penalty was not an option during today's hearing. >> 19 people were hurt in a mega bus crash in indiana. the bus struck a semi which was stopped in a construction zone on i65. the impact sent the semi into a pickup truck. the pickup then hit a car.

investigators are trying to determine why the bus did not stop soon enough. that bus was traveling from chicago to atlanta. a united airlines flight went off the runway in houston texas right here. the plane had just landed and took two wide of a turn while taxiing. the plane got stuck in a muddy area along the runway. the flight came from las vegas with 167 passengers and six crew members on board. everyone is okay. >> turning to sports, the phillies headed north to face the mets. >> ducis rodgers live in the "action news" sports center with more. opening day for the mets, hm, ducis. >> yeah, their opener today, both teams have gotten off to a three and three start a week into the season and the phillies could be better if they can get those bats going. a rough day for grady sizemore. first a mets fan offers him a cold drink. that's not very nice. later sizemore completely loses a ball in the sun. thankfully it does not lead to any runs.

the action cam near 30th street right along the schuylkill there and that shot shows all that sunshine we had today. you see a little bit of that high cloud cover in the distance. let's take a look at the beautiful stretch. saturday 62 degrees. it was a little windy to start the weekend but that 63 degrees average for this time of year. 67 yesterday and then jumped way up to 75 degrees today gaining 8 degrees off of sunday when again that normal is 63. southerly winds though doing the damage this time of year. very typical at the shore in the spring to have much cooler temperatures when the wind comes in off of the atlantic which is still very cold at 50 degrees. it's only 55 on the boardwalk the same for sea isle city but in dover you get that wind coming off of sussex county so it's warm there, 75 be equally as warm up in the lehigh valley. there are some of those high clouds continue to push offer the coast so overall it is a dry evening and overnight but by predawn we'll start to see

the showers break out and you'll see this very thin line from toronto cleveland down to cincinnati a cold front will be pushing down to the south tomorrow and then down in the south there will actually be a low developing, a wave along this front to slow the front down and to bring some heavier rain especially south of philadelphia. so tonight the clouds will be thickening up especially after midnight a few showers before that morning rush, 52 to 55. in fact we time it for you on future tracker and you can see a couple lines of showers developing so nothing terribly heavy during the morning hours. but as the front sinks to the south you can see the northerly winds coming in over philadelphia and trenton and then wildwood southeasterly wind so they converge near millville and dover where that low will be and that's where you're breaking out with the heavier rain and by the afternoon a little drier north of philadelphia especially for the lehigh valley. so, we'll watch that front slip through here tomorrow. high pressure waiting in the wings for midweek but for tomorrow about a quarter inch of rain for northern areas of philadelphia about a half inch

for center city and southern areas three-quarters of an inch maybe even an inch at the shore but everything pushes away on your wednesday as the high comes in that high will that send a northerly winds lots of sun here and still a little bit above average with a temperature at 68. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 66 tomorrow, rain the heaviest being south of philadelphia. especially in the afternoon. and then beautiful here midweek. wednesday even on thursday. partly sunny 68, slipping back to normal here by thursday. and then a lot of clouds build again on friday with the next boundary that will be slow to push through, so maybe a few showers later on friday at 66. lingering showers on saturday of 69 but the second half of the weekend we will salvage brighter dry, 66 and we'll stay there for monday with clouds in the afternoon so very typical late or i should say mid to late april weather coming over the next seven days. >> all right thanks. quick break. more news when we come right back.

31-year-old khayree gay waived his extradition hearing today in south carolina but we don't yet know when he'll be returned to philadelphia. we get more from "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist in center city. sarah. >> reporter: jim, that's right the atf now adding $10,000 to the reward bringing it to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the other suspects in this case. we also learned more today about how police identified the suspect who was taken into custody in south carolina on friday night. 31-year-old khayree gay of olney is in custody in south carolina charged with kidnapping and attempted robbery. he'll be returned to philadelphia this week after waiving extradition today. now federal and local authorities are work together to find his accomplices. today the atf added $10,000 to the reward making it $20,000 for information leading to an
