three-year old boy and his mother were struck both are extremely critical at this hour. monday night the big story on "action news" tonight is search for two criminal motorists who struck two children and a young adult within minutes of each other. "action news" reporter walter perez is live at 57th and warrington the scene of the fatal hit and run tonight walter. >> reporter: well, jim what a sad, tragic scene right here in southwest philadelphia we will give you a live look. it happened right here. surveillance video capture the entire thing and it is really disturbing. in the end an innocent five-year old boy has been killed and the search is now underway for the person responsible. we spoke with several people who witnessed the entire situation unfold. they say it started around 6:30 tonight when a four year-old boy darted on to the roadway near the intersection of 57th street at warrington avenue. >> i knew it was a young boy coming out of the street right behind it. when he got in the in middle of the street i heard the lady

holler go back, go back. >> reporter: but it was too late this surveillance video which ties graphic to show in its entirety reveals how driver of the vehicle involve struck the child sending him flying 15 feet down the roadway. the driver then literally runs over the unconscious youngster before speed ago way. several witnesses tried chasing down the driver but to no avail. others called 911 and tried to help. >> he stopped breathing at one time. i think he went into shock. they did find a pulse. we thought he had died. we didn'te any breathing at all but when paramedics got the here they say he did have have a pulse. >> reporter: the the little boy was transported to children's hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. raises said the only thing more heart breaking than hit and run itself was seeing the victim's mother trying to revive her son. >> i saw her when she came out. she was really, you know, it was horrible to watch. she was just crying crying for the baby's name.

it was so horrible. >> reporter: witnesses also tell us that the driver was a woman. police say it seemed the car was black and could have been an older model ford edge. any one with any information is asked to call philadelphia police. reporting live from southwest philadelphia, walter perez for channel six "action news". as for that second hit and run crash in philadelphia tonight, it happened at masher and lehigh in west kensington just before 7:00. authorities say that a 20 year-old mother and her three-year old son are in very critical condition. investigators say a late model sedan of the japanese brand possibly a nissan acura or infinity, struck the mother and child as they were trying to cross the street. the driver then took off. two people are being treated in the hospital right now for smoke inhalation following this fire an hour and a half ago in new castle delaware. the blaze broke out in the two story wood frame home in the 100 block of hill view avenue.
