dies on the field during spring training and tonight the school community is remembering a young life gone way too soon. saturday night i'm walter perez. the big story on "action news" is tragedy that has shaken up this close nit cool community. the training is usually a time filled with excitement and anticipation. tonight they're mourning at the prep. "action news" reporter kenneth moton has the story from north philadelphia. >> we spoke off camera with the father of ryan gillyard he said teenager was simply a good kid and like so many waiting for autopsy results to find out how his son died. >> it was emotional saturday on the campus of st. joe prep as football coaches parents and student athletes graph well loss of 15-year-old freshman ryan gillyard ryan back erin running back was on this 11th and cecil b. moore practice field for morning conditioning workout when collapsed in front of

teammates. they ran to help and could not revive the team. he was rushed to temple where he was pronounced dead. his grief stricken father told "action news" he was at the practice and hospital when his son died and ryan had no preexisting medical condition and he's been playing football since 3rd grade. ryan's love of the game and talents brought him to this renowned athletics program. st. joe's expressed condolences to upper darby delaware county 15-year-old who played cyo basketball st. dennis in havertown. ryans with a great person and someone we were proud to have as part of the community and do whatever we can to support family and friends especially members of freshman class and football team of which he was a member. head football coach gabe afante and staff walked out after spending time with players day. grief counselors will be available all weekend as the community kopz with the loss of the young student athlete. >> on campus there is private

service scheduled sunday morning to honor ryan. st. joe's says counselors will be on hand for students faculty and staff on monday. reporting in north philadelphia, kenneth moton, "channel 6 action news." >> a little girl was critically injured after being attacked by a dog while visiting her grandmother in west philadelphia. after 5:00 this evening the 3-year-old girl was mauled by this kahne corso the little girl was held by 84-year-old grandmother and that's what police said led to the attack. >> we're making assertion that dog got jealous and that the grand mother was holding the child and dog attacked the child mauling it about the head area. >> investigators say the 84-year-old grandmother tried to protect the toddler and she was injured in the process. investigators say that dog had never been a problem before. and no criminal charges are expected. police rushed the little girl to children's hospital where she was taken into surgery right away. tonight she remains in critical condition. >> a suspect is in custody

tonight the day after hit-and-run that severed a woman's leg. investigators say the offender turned herself in this morning. though she's not yet formally charged witnesses of yesterday's incident say a white suv with woman they identified only as precious behind the wheel hit 24-year-old beatrice spence in tioga-nicetown section alleged motive suspect thought spence was vying for her man. spence denied that. >> she ran me over and took my leg mom and i was not going with him. nobody won't want me now because i got one leg. >> police say anonymous tip led them to this durango with front end damage. during the chaos of the hit-and-run they forgot about dinner tack tooking on the stove that developed to a terrible fire that destroyed the spence family home. more at 11:30. >> police were looking for that suspect tomorrow morning and dozens were mourning loss of

little boy killed by another hit and i run. "action news" was there and invited to greater bible okay temple church in west philadelphia for 4-year-old latif wilson's memorial service. he died after running into traffic 57 and lynch field streets monday nights and investigators already made contact with suspected driver's attorney but she has not yet been arrested. and wilson's grief stricken grandmother says her family needs justice and closure >> it was an accident. we should have kept moving. it is what it is. >> after the memorial mourn ares released balloons in the youngster's honor. >> developing story tonight out of delaware where police are investigating a shooting on college campus. it happened about 8:30 on campus of delaware state university in dover. investigators confirmed there's been a shooting. but it's not yet known if anyone

was injured. we'll keep you posted as more information becomes available about the case. >> police in bensalem arrested a man they say tried to lure an 8-year-old girl into his vehicle when she refused police say he exposed himself. investigators say 22-year-old juan perez schwar he's tried to get the little girl to his vehicle on 3200 block of claire ridge road the girl's father saw what happened and confronted him. the girl's father crashed into a hole pole. he kept driving and crashed again a short time later. they arrived and made an arrest. >> warm, dry conditions earlier today triggered red flag warning for increased risk of brush fires. that's what happened in bensalem buck county. this video was taken by a viewer. it broke out 5 p.m. near richmond road bensalem ipt change of pennsylvania turnpike. took firefighters several hours to get this under control and no injuries reported. >> meanwhile fire also broke out at the frank farley service

applause aac expressway earlier today. a storage shed behind the gas station there caught fire. both gas station and convenience store remain open and nobody was injured. >> well severe storms swept through houston area last night causing quite a panic at the circus. check this out. witnesses say the powerful winds tore apart the big top as people fled the scene. the city ended up flooding under torrent of rain and hail and in fact the downpours came on so fast the commuters with left to weighed across parking lots and streets after their cars stalled out. >> for us, though, a mild evening out there after a picture perfect day. karen rogers in for melissa magee with the accuweather forecast. >> it was a gate day wasn't it, walter? how about today's high, 81. the first 80-degree since september 28. it's been a while since we had that kind of warmth. hopefully you're out there to enjoy. it things change before you know. it not just 81 in philadelphia
