>> overnight sprinkles and showers still clearing the area. as we take a look at storm tracker six live double scan you can see that especially in the northern suburbs still some showers showing up in darker shades of green and yellow occasionally in parts of northern montgomery county pushing into northern bucks. allentown and the lehigh valley probably picking up some of that light rain that's coming into berks county. in philadelphia one more sweep or two of light shower activity is possible over the next couple of hours. as we take a look at the wide view we had a big tornado watch box over parts of the region last evening but we ended up not seeing any tornadoes, just a couple of thunderstorms that produce add little hail. notice the clearing down on the other side of washington. we're looking for that to arrive later this morning and especially this afternoon. 59 degrees right now in philadelphia winds rolling out of the west-southwest, 58 degrees by wilmington. 55 degrees in allentown and 59 in sea isle city. winds not all that strong right now although they probably will pick up a little after sunrise. and on your storm tracker six app you've got the 59 now probably the same story at 8:00 but then we inch up into

the 60's. by 3 o'clock we get a high of 66 degrees breezy and bright later today. corn ramps war roads and rails looking like early? >> dave we've got a new problem. you can see it right here on the schuylkill expressway. this is the schuylkill eastbound right at the 34th street on-ramp. we've got a disabled school bus here. it's in the gore point so not blocking any lanes. traffic is getting by. it's not causing a delay unless you're a kid waiting for your school bus. police are here assisting with the scene here so just watch for a little bit of slowing down but not causing a delay on the schuylkill yet. on i-95 looking live approaching cottman. that's your southbound traffic. already see some building volume starting to slow down a little bit southbound at cottman and again at girard. the roads are wet it's not nearly as bad as it was yesterday with that driving rain that slowed everybody down but you to take it easy with the wet roads. the flooding has receded on columbus boulevard. it is reopened between penn's landing and callowhill street. so that's better news. over in brooklawn camden

county flooding is still an issue right there. they've shut down 130. it's blocked at 551 the old brooklawn circle. you know that's a trouble spot when it rains and that's a problem again this morning. matt stick to 295 as your alternate. >> will do. thank you karen. philadelphia police are working to track down two police impersonators who by all accounts are up to no good. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live outside east detectives in the hunting park section. annie. >> reporter: and matt, this all happened at a grocery store in the 1200 block of east erie avenue in juniata park. now, this happened about two weeks ago but now police are relying on the public's help. they have very clear surveillance video that they think could help track down these two men. police obtained this surveillance video captured wednesday april 8th around noon at this fresh market grocery store. watch closely as these two men enter, the first wearing a gray sweatshirt and sunglasses does not draw attention but the man entering after him does. look closely. that man appears to be wearing

a ballistics vest with yellow write ought back, the type of vest many law enforcement officers wear on the job. this video shows the two men walking quickly through the store's aisles. they caught the attention of a security guard and according to east detectives the guard confronted them when they appeared agitated. then both men allegedly claimed they were police officers and threatened to arrest the guard. nought notice the two female shoppers that joined the argument. police want to talk to them too. they believe the women may be linked to this alleged fake cop duo. detectives say the two men left only to return a short time later and when they announced they were arresting the guard he saw a gun in the waste band of the suspect in the gray sweatshirt. as he reached for a pair of handcuffs. police consider them armed and dangerous. now, luckily during that fake arrest in progress, there was a witness there that did break it up. the witness also describes seeing the two men fleeing in

a burgundy colored minivan possibly a dodge or a plymouth. again, this happened on april 8th around noon at the grocery store in juniata park in the 1200 block of east erie avenue. if you were there or if you recognize any of the people in that video you are urged to contact police. reporting outside of east detectives in hunting park, annie mccormick, channel6 "action news." >> okay, annie, thank you. it is now 6:05 and the sentencing phase in the trial of the boston marathon bomber is set to begin this morning. now, this same jury that found dzhokhar tsarnaev guilty must now decide does he spends the rest of his life in jail or does he get the death penalty? erin o'hearn is live at the big board with the latest. >> reporter: good morning tam. on april 8th dzhokhar tsarnaev was convicted of all charges against him. today prosecutors will try to get jurors to sentence him to death. the death penalty is something a number of his victims

oppose. the richard family saying it could bring years of appeals and prolong reliving the most painful day of our lives. rebecca gregory learning to run again after losing a leg in the bombing and fell to her knees after finishing the marathon yesterday joined the chorus of victims and families who oppose the death penalty for tsarnaev. >> it's just bringing up a all of the stuff and having to relive it every single day and there's no good that can come out of that. >> reporter: a few days ago the parents of eight-year-old boy killed urged the u.s. justice department to take the death penalty off the table in exchange for a life sentence without the possibility of parole. the penalty phase is expected to last four weeks but again congratulations to rebecca who had to learn how to walk and then ran that marathon and collapsed. what a way to reclaim her life. >> quite an accomplishment. thank you erin.

no one knows the name of the woman whose body was discovered in the schuylkill river nor how old she was or how she died. investigators scoured the banks as chopper six was overhead. an autopsy will be conducted to learn more. >> it is 6:07. new jersey transit wants to hike fares for the first time in five years as well as cut service. it's all because of a $100 million budget shortfall. new jersey transit says it found $40 million to cut internally but that still leaves another $60 million to make up. the average fare increase would be between seven and 9 percent. buts would be eliminated on several south jersey routes such as philadelphia to six flags great adventure in jackson. public hearings will be held next month. kraft mac and cheese is famous for that neon orange color but how they get to it is about to change. maribel aber is live at the nasdaq in times square. she's got the latest. good morning maribel. >> reporter: good morning tam. bye-bye dye.

the food maker says it will remove artificial preservatives and synthetic colors beginning in january next year. kraft will use spices like paprika and turmeric to replace the synthetic colors. the change comes after parents asked for better nutrition in the product. the company promises the mac and cheese it will taste the same. this will cut your commuting time. japan's magnetic heavytation train set a world speed record hitting 373 miles per hour in a test run. it's predicted the train will cut travel time in half for some routes. the train hovers inches buffer the tracks is that propelled by electrically charged magnets. better than corporate earnings sent stocks soaring monday. futures are pointing to a higher open. that's the late nest business news from nasdaq. back to you matt and tam. >> making money in the 401k. thank you maribel. >> little damp out there this morning. storm tracker six live double scan slows that to you but boy the rain really is beginning to break up across the region and i want to go ahead and give you that two dimensional

view. philadelphia about to get hit with another light shower. this is popping in from the west kind of pushing a little toward the north-northeast and as we go in tighter there is a little bit of a heavier cell also falling in parts of montgomery county and now pushing toward doylestown but this isn't going to take all that long to pass. it's not really charging through the region but i would say 15, 20 minutes and it's probably past you. so, if you have the option of just say in doylestown giving it a half hour before you head outside you'll have better conditions. there are other bits of precipitation farther to the west that may bug us up until about 8 o'clock or so but generally speaking we're finally in the process of getting out from under yesterday's rain. as we take a look outside, we have cloudy skies of course and even where it isn't raining say at philadelphia international airport, you still have wet conditions down below and some spray coming up on the windshield and highways and by ways around the region. 55 degrees in allentown, 54 in reading currently, 59 in philadelphia, 58 in wilmington, 56 in trenton upper 50's down the shore in

sea isle city and on the boardwalk in atlantic city. monday night we did have a tornado watch for awhile but no tornadoes ended and happening in our neck of the woods. the worst storm damage we had in philadelphia county and new castle county was some thunderstorms that produced a little bit of hail. you might have had a tree branch down here or there but generally speaking we dodged a bullet last night when we were under the threat of some severe weather. doesn't always pan out and it didn't for most of you last night. future tracker six showing you how things are going to continue to dry outer between now and 8 o'clock. by 8:00 we think most of the rain is going to be off to the north and east and as we go past 8 o'clock up to lunchtime we'll reintroduce a lot of sunshine into play. ally town today's high is 65 degrees, clouds and sun. it will be a bit breezy and on the cool side but that's a seasonable high, maybe even a couple of degrees above average up in the lehigh valley. and down the shore 66 degrees in ac and other spots up and down the coastline. clouds mixing with more and more sun as the day goes on and breezy conditions there. and in philadelphia we'll also

go for a high of 66 this afternoon. clouds giving way to more sun breezy conditions, winds out of the northwest though, at 12 to 25 miles per hour. so, you will feel that breeze during the afternoon. as we roll through the day, 59 by 8 o'clock, 62 by 11 o'clock. certainly nice enough to get out there and do a walk. 65 degrees by 2 o'clock and then your high today is 66 degrees at 3 o'clock before we slide back to 63 by 5:00. head to the phillies tonight? bring along a couple of layers. 62 degrees for the first pitch. down to about 54 by the end of the game. breezy and dry for the marlins and phillies as they start up that season at citizens bank park or that series i should say. and then tomorrow in the morning when we're here early we may have a sprinkle or light shower to show you on storm tracker six but as we go through the day future tracker showing a little better chance of this during the afternoon. it's not going to be a washout tomorrow but some spotty off and on rain is possible straight in through the evening hours. your exclusive accuweather 7-day, 66 today. transitioning to mainly sunny conditions later on.

looking live here this is delaware county, i-95 southbound just past 320 we see this accident. we've got police and penndot all blocking the left lane and if you can see up ahead we also have police off to the right shoulder. so, this is causing a jam-up on i-95 southbound from approaching the blue route to this point past 320. you can see they've got the flares out all blocking the left lane so just slow it down as you come through this scene and expect it to take you a little longer if you're heading here on i-95 southbound in delaware county. so, a problem on i-95. why not a problem on the schuylkill too? we still have this disabled school bus out there. it's in the gore point. it's the schuylkill eastbound and this is right on the ramp to 34th street on-ramp here. so schuylkill eastbound a problem right there a disabled school bus. we've got police on the scene with that one as well. meanwhile the traffic lights are out. still a problem here. you want to look for this in bridesburg torresdale avenue and harbison so if you're in that area just treat it a as four-way stop and be careful as you're traveling there. our speeds are starting to slow down in the usual spots i-95 southbound looking at

about 19 miles an hour, realtime data showing a jam there southbound near girard. not as bad on the schuylkill, about 49 in a spot that would usually be heavy on the boulevard past belmont so nothing like yesterday's nightmare commute with that driving rain but nonetheless because of all the rain, we do still have some problems with flooding so we're looking live in gloucester county here, route 47, that's both ways, this is new in westville. near 130 route 47 problems with flooding, the right lane is blocked but 130 is still blocked here in both directions at 551. that's the old brooklawn circle. that always has problems when it's flooding. today is no different. stick to 295 as your alternate. i have been tweeting out all the latest traffic problems with the #6abc traffic so that will help you out through the morning commute. heavier rain has moved through the area. storm tracker six live double scan showing we have some pockets of heavy rain. it's wet on those roads this morning, tam. >> thank you karen. new this morning a fierce storm lashing australia's

southeast has destroyed homes and flooded communities. video shows a house boat being swept away. three people were found dead in one of the worst hit areas. police are trying to determine how they died. the storm has been pounding sydney and other parts of new south wales. it's dumped more than a foot of lane in some areas with wind gusts more than 60 miles an hour. officials received 4500 calls for help and rescued nearly 50 people. and two police officers didn't hesitate yesterday when they pulled up to a vehicle fire with the driver still trapped inside. the officers broke the window, grabbed the man and managed to drag him away from the flames. they an good samaritan were able to get that man to safety. the driver was seriously hurt but officers are being credited with saving his life. >> you're going to be all right, okay. you're going to be all right.

>> it's tuesday morning, the roads are a bit wet and we've got problems coming n this is northeast philadelphia, disabled vehicle. we've got penndot on the scene helping out with this. it's mostly on the shoulder now. this is woodhaven road at thornton road. westbound traffic on woods hey road as you're heading toward the boulevard just watch for them off to the side right now trying to help that poor guy stuck on the road. can't get to work. let's go on outside again check out the ben franklin bridge. looking live here, that's your westbound traffic on the left coming into center city, no big problem. we're seeing some building volume but i wouldn't say a major delay. dave, you see just a lint of fog, it's not a big deal out there but a couple spots slightly reduced visibility. >> good to know. aren't storm tracker six live hd and double scan, karen, we are looking at some pockets of steadier rain. one of these quickly pushing into bucks county out of montgomery county and another one looks like it wants to enter south western chester county but most of us are in the process of drying out. even those of you who are seeing a little pocket of

steadier stuff it's not going to last long. today's high is going tock 66 degrees. we are expecting the rain to end fairly quickly over the next hour and a half or so. then we should return a fair amount of sunshine into play. it is going to be a bit breezy today though with winds running about 12 to 25 miles per hour. across the country we've got a little precipitation popping up in the central portion of the country. a couple of showers down in central florida. the only chance of severe weather today is fairly low and that's in the texas pan hijacky across southern kansas into parts of saint louis. wind gusts and hail possible. really no chance of tornadoes the way things look. on the big board at the airport we're hoping for no major delays and we don't have them with those green aircraft showing. now looks like the rain tapering off in philadelphia and boston but still hanging in there up near j.f.k. tam. >> thank you david. going to health check a government study says there's not much benefit for routine mammograms for women in their 40's but women in their 50's should be getting them every two years. the study found that on average for every thousand women screened you might save one life if women started

philadelphia as we speak. and it extends up to the north through bucks county into parts of lower montgomery county. after that we may have seen the end of this rain finally. looks like it will be pushing past us probably by about 8 o'clock or so this morning. we are looking at a wide view on satellite and radar. there's some cloud cover lined the rain but then some clearing and we're expecting to get some of that dry air in place and the return of sunshine. some of your kids are going to want umbrellas on the way in or some sort of rain gear. this afternoon a jacket required because we'll stay in the 60's but it will be drying out pretty quickly this morning. 59 degrees in philadelphia, 56 millville, 54 in allentown. everybody in the 50's at this hour. and it's a tuesday treat overall because once we dump the rain we get kind of nice later on. 59 on your storm tracker six app. 59 by 8 o'clock as wie. so, we'll probably hold on or about where we are right now for the next hour or so. and then by noon up to 63 and your high today at 3 o'clock will be 66 degrees, breezy but bright and pretty nice

overall. karen rogers with this rain coming down probably slowing things down on the roads right. >> you know what it sure s we've had a couple of accidents as well. one of them was right here. it cleared a second ago. as we look live in delaware county this is i-95 southbound just past 320. it was all blocking the left lane. i watched as police left the scene. still a couple of flares left out. i-95 southbound still pretty jammed at this point from past ridley park to past 320 but now that that accident is cleared and all lanes back opened hopefully that delay will ease. i talked to police in delaware county. they told me about an accident that's blocking traffic here. this is edgemont avenue right by the wawa near coburn boulevard. if you're in that area watch for restriction there is and use a little caution with that accident too there that was causing a problem in delaware county. switch to go i-95 here near cottman we see the southbound traffic really starting to jam up. it's currently a 37 minute ride southbound from woodhaven to the vine, not nearly the nightmare of yesterday's commute with that driving rain coming down but we've got a touch of fog some wet roads and it's a problem out there.

here in penn's landing columbus boulevard between penn's landing and callowhill, we have some flooding. police are out there blocking a lane so traffic is getting by but that one may slow you down as well, tam. >> thank you karen. we've got some brand new information just in on a developing story. a small fire inside penndot's district six headquarters in king of prussia has now led to a two-hour delay opening for employees. traffic control was interrupted for a short time and the building was put on generator power. the fire started in an electrical box of the building on the 7,000 block of gerdes boulevard. police investigating a double slooting in south philadelphia. the action cam was on the scene in the 2600 block of jackson street. that's where a gunman wounded a woman in her 20's. police say a second person a man showed up at the hospital claiming that he was shot at that same location. both of the victims are in stable condition. no arrests have been made. >> there are new developments

in the investigation of a man who suffered a fatal spine injury while under arrest in baltimore. the city's police department has suspended six of its officers. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is filling us in with the rest live at the big board. erin. >> reporter: matt there is an intense focus on several videos now including this one capturing the same arrest. they show the suspect being put into the back avenue police van in a high crime area and that suspect, freddie gray would later die of a severed spine. neither a cell phone video or video from police camera seem to explain exactly how he suffered that injury. now, police documents say gray was taken into custody without force or incident but then according to police he suffered a medical emergency. police say gray ran from police who pursued him and arrested him as the video shows at 8:39. just four minutes later at 8:43 is when he's put into the police van and asks for an inhaler. at 8:46 the van driver says gray gets irate. the van pulls over and leg irons are put on.

a medic however isn't called until 9:24. gray is then hospitalized and seven days after his arrest the 25-year-old was dead. an autopsy shows he suffered that spinal injury and the family's attorney is claiming the burden for that injury belongs to police. however, police say there was no use of force. >> they're responsible for what happened to him because it happened in their custody under extraordinarily suspicious circumstances that cry out for transparency and full disclosure. >> i know that when mr. gray was placed inside that van, he was able to talk he was upset and when mr. gray was taken out of that van, he could not talk and he could not breathe. >> now baltimore's mayor went even farther saying the injury happened inside the van but again, those videos are very unclear and it really -- they really don't show much. so without any clear answers

as you said, matt, six baltimore police officers are on suspension: we'll keep you updated on this matt. >> thanks so much erin. 6:36 now and happening today an extradition hearing for a philadelphia mom accused of deserting her special needs son. nyia parler remains in custody in montgomery county maryland. she had spent about a week in the hospital for an undisclosed condition. police say parler abandoned her quadriplegic son in the woods of cobbs creek while visiting her boyfriend. parler will face attempted murder charges when she returns to philadelphia. vice president joe biden will visit the peco building in center city today. his arrival expected at 2:30 this afternoon. the white house says biden will deliver remarks on energy at peco's main officers on main street. he will be accompanied by secretary of energy earnest monese. >> thunderstorms are clearing out of the lehigh and delaware valleys just in time for the morning commute. pops of lightning illuminated the sky over philadelphia international airport. the bright streaks also lit up the center city skyline.

the strong thunderstorms did not cause any widespread power outages or significant damage, just a few thunder boomers that rattled me a little bit here and there. >> and we still have a little bit of rain out there right now, david. >> we do. storm tracker six live double scan matt and tam shows us -- well i think it's going to show us that there is some shower activity out there across the region. and i apologize, that was my fault i accidentally took something out of play that you guys needed. anyway, there is the radar and you can see that there is drying across much of the region but in tighter to philadelphia we still have a couple of spots of precipitation that are producing a fairly decent downpour highlighted in yellow. the thing is these are very isolated and they don't last all that long. there's one moving into chester county that looks like it's going to be hindering people and downingtown and malvern over the next 10 minutes or so. another one up around jenkintown and willow grove that will be moving through fairly quickly off to the northeast and tren to could get caught by the bottom edge of that shortly. if with go out wider you can see how south jersey is pretty

much drying out, just a couple of lighter sprinkles led need delaware. in the lehigh valley we're beginning to see the rain slacken off a little. outside you can see we have sky six and you can sea bright anyone in the skies over philadelphia currently. as we are looking at transition from rain and clouds to much brighter conditions a little later this morning. temperatures 59 degrees your winds out of the west-southwest at 10 miles per hour. probably getting a little bit more breezy than that as the morning and afternoon goes on. got some monday records to talk about and it all involves that heavy rain we got in the morning. in philadelphia a one day record on april 20th of 2.1 or 01-inches, in wilmington 2.37. in the predawn hours this morning we had lingering flooding issues along the delaware river and some of its tributaries but those issues have now subside add bit and the rain is beginning to subside as well. future tracker six showing that you by 8 o'clock we are probably looking at the last of the rain off to the north.

maybe a little bit of lingering mist and drizzle but i think we're pretty much done at that point and then later as we head through the morning into the early afternoon we're going to reintroduce a lot of sunshine into play. here's how the numbers are going to go today. 59 degrees by 8 o'clock by 11 o'clock, 62 and then by 2 o'clock, 65 degrees. and a high of 66 degrees this afternoon probably around 3 o'clock. by 5 o'clock, we are back to 64 degrees and we are still cool still a will it breezy but not that bad for this time of year. high temperatures from north to south pretty even today. 65 in allentown, 64 in cape may on the peninsula of cape may county and the mid 60's up and down the i-95 corridor. if you're headed to the phillies tonight it's another one of those evenings where i think it's a good idea to bring layers with you. 62 degrees for the first pitch. might still be a bit breeze as the marlins move into town. 54 by the ninth inning. getting cooler maybe a bit breezy. a couple extra sweatshirts or jackets to throw on during the game probably would not be a bad idea. tomorrow morning possibility

rogers see where things stands on your roads. good morning. >> well, it's a slow down on i-95. we had a disabled school bus it was blocking the left lane nearly a gain and all it takes a few minutes blocking the left lane and you know you're going to create a jam-up. this is a live look. i-95 southbound as we switch our camera view, it has been jamming past woodhaven to cottman and again from the betsy ross bridge to girard. watch for that slow go. a 43 minute ride that's pretty big southbound from woodhaven to the vine so a slow go right there. on the big picture here we've got an update on the traffic lights. that were out. they're on flash at this point. watch for it in bridesburg torresdale avenue and harbison avenue so look for delays there. there are those slow speeds on i-95, 10 miles an hour 10 miles an hour on the schuylkill westbound from approaching the boulevard to past belmont. we're looking with realtime data showing about 32 miles an hour eastbound on the schuylkill near girard. don't forget we've been talking about vice president biden's visit and we're going to see restrictions near market street around 2:30 this

afternoon. so you know there will be some traffic headaches coming around them. let's take you to some of the problems around the area. i talked to police in delaware county and they talked about this accident that's still blocking traffic. edgemont avenue right at cambridge road right by the wawa if you're used to that area there in brookhaven. also i-95 southbound past 320 we had an accident there it's cleared but we are still seeing delays about 26 miles an hour in that area so a little bit slow currently. now police in camden county tell me the problems here with the flood regular not that bad at this point so traffic is getting by now on 130 at 551 and route 47 both ways right here near 130. it was restricting traffic and don't forget if it's a traffic problem i've been tweeting it with the #6abc traffic to help you out. tam. >> thank you karen. we have new information this morning on last night's underground explosion in wayne delaware county. viewer video shows the fire and the smoke. officials now say underground wires not a transformer caused this eruption. it happened at the height of dinnertime on the 100 block of north wayne avenue.
