>> developing overnight, firefighters make a deadly discovery at the scene of a blaze in bucks county. >> play time takes a terrible turn in new jersey when a pickup truck slams into a group of children playing there on the street. >> it is 5:30 a.m. do you know where your children are? one dad does all of the time thanks to a personal drone. >> good morning, karen is off. let's head over to dave murphy and matt pelman. good morning. >> mainly dry this morning but that will change later today. we have some sprinkles and showers out to the west of us. some of the northern suburbs might be picking up a little bit of this much as a cold front gets closer we're on the lookout for showers and also a couple of afternoon thunderstorms and where these storms hit today they could produce some gusty strong

sudden winds right around the base of the storms. then could put some debris in roadways. so, caution if you're driving around and we also are advising you to secure trash cans or other items that might get blown around by a storm later this afternoon before you leave for work or school. that way you don't come home and find stuff missing. 50 degrees if philadelphia, 42 in allentown, 45 in reading 46 trenton and 49 degrees right now in sea isle city. we're starting out as i mentioned mainly dry and cool. temperatures really going rise quickly though as we go through the afternoon. we're going the wind up 59 at 9 o'clock but 66 at noon and this high of 69 degrees is probably fairly early in the day, say 1:30 or 2 o'clock and then that front comes through and the temperatures start to go down. 65 degrees by 3 o'clock and all the way down to 56 by 6 o'clock. again, some showers possible in through the early afternoon but at some point during the mid to late afternoon hours you'll see that line of showers and heavy gusty thunderstorms coming through. matt, i'll have the latest on future tracker six showing

those storms progression coming up. >> sounds like an eventful day on tap. good morning david, good morning, everybody. hasn't been too eventful on the traffic front so far just a few things to watch out for but nothing here along the roosevelt boulevard extension in east falls. road is dry. traffic is moving fine but north of here on the boulevard near ryan avenue we do still have that crash and we're hearing that the southbound inner drive has reopened but the northbound inner drive does remain closed. vehicle reportedly hit a tree there. so, as you head northbound toward woodhaven road stick with the outer drive on the boulevard this morning. this is the vine street expressway by the schuylkill expressway eastbound overnight construction clear. all lanes opened both ways. not until tomorrow morning we'll be talking extra volume on the vine because of the penn relays. this morning we expect a normal commute. had a crash on the northbound northeast extension approaching quakertown. that's clear as is the southbound construction and work zone from the east-west turnpike also out of the way so all lanes opened as you head west towards willow grove and fort washington on this wednesday morning.

matt. >> thank you matt. authorities in bucks county confirmed one person who was unaccounted for at a fire scene was killed in the blaze. the fire broke out last night on the 6600 block of point pleasant pike in plumstead township. officials say the victim was a 58-year-old man who lived there alone. firefighters found his body at midnight. we will have a full report on this deadly blaze coming up in our next half hour. >> the power is still out for two dozen businesses on main line street rocked by underground explosions. take a look at new video from wayne, delaware county, where peco crews have been working to try to get problem fixed. the trouble started monday night when three separate blasts sent smoke and flames pouring out from below the 100 block of north wayne avenue. businesses left in the dark have done what they can to keep going including this barbershop that took the haircutting outdoors. >> are you going to start advertising alfresco hair cuts now? >> why not. whatever works. >> reporter: if they have outdoor did i know why not

this. >> yeah, right. >> my salon is all closed off and the electrical panel is blown out in my shop. >> peco hopes to turn on the electricity to restaurant row sometime later this morning. it's unclear if a driver in new jersey will now face charges. he ran his pickup truck into four children who were playing in the street. this happened last night in the 400 block of chestnut avenue in woodbury heights gloucester county. the children are between the ages of four and 15. they all suffered bumps and bruises. >> i know all these children and we're just really thankful that all the the -- they're going to be okay and that's what -- that's the main thing that they're going to be okay. they're going to get to go out and play again and have fun. >> the truck landed into some brush on the side of the road but the driver was not hurt. >> 5:34 now. philadelphia police are searching for a serial robber who is posing as a police officer. this is surveillance of the most recent incident in cobbs creek back on friday. a man claiming to be a policeman approached a woman at 52nd and cedar streets

flashed what looked like a badge and order the victim to drop her bag and stand against the wall. the imposter stole the woman's purse. she ran after him. but he got away in a black nissan altima. sky six taking a live look at philadelphia international airport where a multi billion dollar project will be announced today. officials are scheduled to sign the paperwork at noon that paves the way for a massive expansion project and part of the means to pay for it. we'll have a live report from eva pilgrim with more information in our next half hour. >> new here on "action news" a coyote attack in north jersey has the people there on high alert. police captured a coyote in norwood after it attacked a police car. the animal has been sent to a state lab for rabies testing. that same animal attacked a man. the man said he found two dense near a school. police are warning parents to keep children and small pets inside. >> if you think your parents spent too much time looking over your shoulder when you

were a child check out this father from tennessee. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is at the big board with more on the drone dad. >> reporter: all of a sudden i feel like a very relaxed parent, matt. most of us have heard of helicopter parenting. let's call this drone parenting, except we're not being metaphorical. this tennessee father has literally become a hovering dad thanks to his love of technology and his adorable eight-year-old daughter. chris early is a self described tech junkie who owns a production company. he's also father to katie who asked him to walk to school on her own a few weeks ago. of course katie didn't want her father to watch her but let's say his creative parental instincts kicked in. he used the drone to take video of her on her way to school. some may say he's being too protective but chris says it's all in fun and of course a great way to make sure katie is safe. >> i was like, oh, wow.

he didn't tell me then and so i was pretty david. >> it was just kind of a thing just to kind of keep an eye on just to make sure she was looking both ways, let her know that daddy is always watching. >> early says he has the drones -- he's had the drone for about a month and plans on using it for commercial he produces for his production company but he just has to wait on the faa to approve new laws first. i wonder if you ask his daughter her opinion on whether the faa should approve drone use what do you think? >> i don't know. i think maybe at the very least stop the drone from following her into her school. >> yes. >> she could be the kid who is always wondering in her dad is taking a look. >> great dad. thanks erin. storm tracker six -- my kids are too old for that i guess. no major rain out there. we've had a couple sprinkles up in the poconos. it's possible some of you up in the northern suburbs see a bit of something this morning but if you do, it's very light raindrops on the windshield.

as we take a look outside we have some sun expected to come up over the horizon and on the shore and then clouds will get thicker as our day marches on. 50 degrees a little bit cool to start out in philadelphia right now. your winds north-northwest only at 3 miles per hour to begin. and as we roll through the day, starting out mainly dry. and then as i said the clouds get a little bit thicker. by 8 o'clock there's that sprinkle or shower up to the north in the poconos mainly. some could sweep through suburbs closer to philadelphia. after 2, 3 o'clock we'll be on the lookout to the west for the development of more significant showers and perhaps some thunderstorms forming in this. the latest run on future tracker six certainly does suggest this in at least spots and the issue with these storms as they roll through maybe after about two and up until about 6:00 from west to east is gusty winds. you'll see lightning and downpours obviously but right ahead of these storms they could really shoot out a real quick wind gusts and that could put debris on roadways and bring down a couple tree

branches, maybe some wires. that would be a possibility. after we get that main bands off the coast by about dinnertime the rest of the evening is mainly dry with just a couple of spotty showers. today's threats, yeah, the storms would produce lightning and downpours but the big issue that we're looking at is strong gusty winds that will really blow up in a hurry. as we mentioned at the top of the half hour it would be a good idea to secure your trash cans and other things that might be able to blow out into the roadways to make sure you still got it when you get home. 54 degrees by 8:00 a.m., 64 by 11:00 the other part of today's stories is ahead of those storms we're going get very mild. by 2 o'clock a high of 69 degrees but once that rain comes through and the front comes through we'll see the temperatures dip again and by 5 o'clock we're all the way back down to 57. high temperatures across the region today are going to be a little variable. 64 degrees in allentown up closer to 70 in philadelphia, down the shore mid 60's. a shower or thunderstorm later today. for the phillies tonight cool, most of the rain should be past you perhaps a

>> 5:43. breaking right now a nasty crash here on the roosevelt boulevard left a 40-year-old man dead. the action cam is live along the northbound lanes of the boulevard near ryan avenue in northeast philadelphia. police say the driver lost control, crashed into a tree at 4:15 a.m. the defer was trapped had to be pulled from the wreckage and was pronounced dead at the hospital. >> let's go to matt pelman. he follows this with traffic. good morning. >> yeah, really sobering scene on the boulevard this morning. we've been talking about this and the traffic implications matt and tam and the crash is still blocking the northbound inner drive along the boulevard near ryan avenue. that's where barbera autoland there on the southbound side. but all southbound lanes have reopened. it's northbound where the inner drive is still shut down. not a big delay at this point but do watch out for that and stick with the outer drive as you head north on the boulevard this morning. now we head to the suburbs. time for the suburban traffic report early on this wednesday morning. we're live near lionville chester county along route

100. southbound would go the taillights towards the ongoing work zone if there were any taillights. there aren't at this point its nice and quiet out there along 100 through chester county this morning. but let's go to bucks county and talk about some new construction that got under way on monday lasting until mid june. king what opinion road. bridge repairs over iron works creek. to get around that maybe stick with bristol road for the next couple months. meanwhile a construction zone coming to princeton today, tomorrow and friday they're going to close mount lucas road from 7:00 in the morning until 3:30 in the afternoon. 206 or bun drive some alternates around that one. going on down in salem county with the waze app we're checking the commuter report. one of our friends telling us about animals on the on 295 near old man's township. watch out for animal friends as you head out in south jersey this morning.

>> thank you matt. the justice department has opened a civil rights investigation into the death of freddie gray a plaque man who suffered app spinal cord injury in the custody of baltimore police. abc's bazi kuehne nanny has >> reporter: another community outraged. the protest growing in baltimore where 25-year-old freddie gray was stopped by police for unclear reasons then died after suffering a severe spinal injury in police custody. >> police brutality is at an all time high and it just needs to stop. >> reporter: the justice department now launching an investigation and several videos of the arrest may help. here an auto panning police camera shows someone running down the street. gray is seen on the ground with two officers kneeling next to him. less than three minutes later a quick shot as he's newt a transport van. police say they don't know when or how gray was injured. >> we had no evidence,

physical or video or statements of any use of force. >> reporter: but a severe spinal injury is usually the result of blunt force. the family insists police are responsible. collapsing into tears, gray's mother and sister were carried away from the protests. the crowd calling for murder charges against the six officers involved in the arrests. >> we're not going to back down. it's a serious issue its a fundamental -- it's a fundamental institutional problem we're having with police departments across the country from coast to coast. >> reporter: those six officers are now on paid leave. besides baltimore police an independent path and now the justice department are also investigating. bazi kanani abc news. >> his decision to go on vacation while facing shooting charges. robert bates is going to the

bahamas. the 73-year-old insurance executive says he confused his stun gun and handgun. >> new on "action news" metro riders in the nation's capitol rescued a man in a wheelchair who rolled right off the platform. it happened yesterday afternoon. fellow passengers pulled the man back to safety in just seconds. he was conscious and breathing with cuts to his face. officials do not know what caused the man to fall onto the tracks. >> 5:48 now. a bikini clad grandma is hauled off in handcuffs after a crash down south. >> a baseball manager proves he needs his mouth washed out with soap. here the sanitize the version of his profanities laced tirade. >> perhaps a gusty thunderstorm is coming through. it might be a good i don't do have kids armed with gear in case that happens on your way home from school. we'll be back with your day planner forecast.

township. i doubt that you forgot but that means extra traffic along 29, egypt road and 422 itself. that's because of bridge construction. also some bridge work going on in wilmington each day this week. they're closing the pine street bridge from 9:00 until 3:00 so maybe at that point stick with route 13 instead. david. >> matt cool this morning to start out. temperatures in the 40's across much of the northern and western suburbs, 46 degrees in center city. and more of the same down to the south, 47 in smyrna, delaware. some spots in the 50's at this point and by 9:00 we expect to be up to 59. we'll climb pretty quickly today getting a high of 69 degrees around 1:30 or 2 o'clock. but then the numbers will start to fall as a cold front comes through. at the same time we'll be on the lookout for a passing shower or more importantly a gusty thunderstorm. if you have errands to run the morning would probably be the better chance or the better timing, maybe early afternoon because after about 3 o'clock we do have that chance of at least a period of heavy rain and strong gusty winds with any storms that form. matt and tam. >> okay, thank you david.
