turnpike and the northeast extension is cleared. an off-duty policeman out walking his dog, when a thief tried to walk him he quickly turned the table. katherine scott is live good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam the suspect picked the wrong target. the target was the off-duty police officer he finished his shift at the 12th district. shots were fired and they hit several parked cars on the 5800 block of malvern avenue in overbrook. this happened around 11:40 p.m. the suspect approached the off-duty officer from behind while he was walking his dog. police say that off-duty officer spotted the gun in the suspect's hand and immediately drew his gun. the officer fired 8 times the suspect took cover behind a car on malvern and fled toward

upland. they searched for the suspect from the air and on foot. the officer was in the injured. >> we called the k-9 units to they discarded his weapon -- we were looking to see if he discarded his weapon and fled into the back alley and may have been hiding back there. >> they don't if the suspect was hit by the gunfire or not. they are checking local hospitals. if you have any information on the suspect southwest detective's wants to hear from you. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> developing a firefighter suffered minor burn while battling a blaze in wilmington, delaware. the blaze broke out at east lawn avenue around midnight. the fire spread to a neighboring home before crews placed it

under control. this is new a investigation at a local school. students started receiving pictures on their cell cell phones last month. police are investigating the case. police are looking for all the students who were involved in a brawl on the broad street line tuesday afternoon. surveillance video shows students from ben franklin high school kicking and punching and falling on the track. surprisingly no injuries were reported but arrests are expected. >> we are making sure sure in supporting septa there are criminal charges in addition to anything else we'll do in the school level regarding this incident. >> now the melee is just the latest in a spring of fights at septa stations.
