that's good news. watch out for the a crash at 21st and somerset, a vehicle scrummed the curb there. an off duty philadelphia police officer walking his dog turned the tables on a would-be robber overnight. katherine scott is live at the scene to complain what happened. >> reporter: the police officer is a a five year veteran. philadelphia police department. prior to that he was on the upper darby force. he had return from his shift at the 12 district walking his dog. shots were fired on malvern avenue in overnight brook. it happened on the 5800 block of malvern around 11:40. the suspect came up behind the officer while he was walking his dog. the off-duty officer saw the gun in the suspect's hand and drew

his own weapon. he fired 8 shots. the suspect took cover behind a car on malvern and fled on foot. one neighbor said he was asleep when he heard the gunfire. >> i don't remember how many it was, i scrummed up, it sounded like it was inside my house. >> reporter: police say the suspect had a hoodie pulled over his head. if you have any information on the whereabouts of this man southwest detective's want to hear from you. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> thank you for those details. 6:04. police are trying to identify all the students involved in a massive after-school brawl at a septa subway station. surveillance video shows all the chaos on the broad street line spring garden platform. septa has identified two victims who go to ben franklin high

school. coming up in the next half-hour we'll hear from school district officials on what the suspects in the brawl are going to face. >> happening today the parents of michael brown plan to file a civil lawsuit against the city of ferguson, missouri. saint louis grand jury and u.s. justice department declined to prosecute the officer. but released a scathing report showing bias in the police department and the local court system. a funeral is planned for freddie gray in baltimore maryland. he was arrested and died a week later from a spinal cord injuries suffered in a police van. the justice department civil rights division has opened an investigation into a gray's
