"action news" reporter chad pradelli in live in crescentsville tonight where the driver crashed his vehicle chad. >> reporter: yeah, rick we're here at adams avenue and bingham street this where the driver finally came to a stop. , see he came up here on this grass, took up some of the turf went into that fence and finally came to a stop. he was found dead by police and now they are looking for his shooter. this is the vehicle where the 49-year-old was found shot and killed around 10:30 last night. police say a dozen shots were

fired in all only one hit him but it was a fatal shot. he was making food deliveries when he was gunned down. >> at some point in time he's approached by an individual or an individual or individuals we don't know at this point how many are involved but at some point in time there's a robbery or attempted robbery and he's shot one time in the arm. >> reporter: police scoured the scene for evidence so far investigators have no leads nor suspects. he worked for the new china takeout restaurant around the corner on the 5800 block of rising sun. the establishment was closed today but area residents were saddened by the senseless killing. >> that's terrible. that's terrible. the neighborhood will not be the same. >> some places go with having few delivery drivers for this same reason. what's one of the things where we try and direct delivery drivers to have as much caution as possible but it is a concern. >> reporter: and like all homicides here in the city

there is a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. i'm live in crescentville chad pradelli channel6 "action news." >> thank you chad. a philadelphia police officer shot by a suspect last night has been released from the hospital. officer daniel kostick a 19th district bicycle patrol officer was shot in the arm after confronting a possible drug suspect in west philadelphia. the suspect who has not yet been identified remains in the hospital and is expected to survive. kostick is an eight year veteran of the force. he is married and a father of two. >> the woman who allegedly abandoned her quadriplegic son in the woods was in a philadelphia court today. 41-year-old nyia parler was arraigned. she police say she left her 21-year-old son take kwan norman in philadelphia's cobbs creek section for days while she went to visit her boyfriend in maryland. a man walking by saw him and called police. parler remains behind bars on

two and half million dollars bail. well, everything is back to normal tonight at the statue of liberty in new york city after a bomb threat forced an evacuation of the island. officials say a caller made a threat stating that they were going to blow up the landmark. the bomb squad checked out what was believed to be a suspicious package in a visitor's locker. police later said the locker was empty. the island was closed for almost four hours. >> the vatican's secretary of state says pope francis is very calm amid revelations of an alleged plot to attack the vatican five years ago. it comes months away from the pope's first visit to the u.s. which as you know includes a stop here in philadelphia. abc news reporter marci gonzalez live in new york with the latest on this. >> reporter: mon cat men accused of this plot have reportedly been monitored by police for years though investigators aren't saying why it took until today for nine of them to be arrested. a major terror raid in italy. police taking down a network

allentown 54. wilmington 55. millville 56 and trenton 54 degrees along the beaches sea isle city the boardwalk in atlantic city answers also 53. temperatures running about 10 degrees below average. feeling even colder when you factor in this, wind gusts up 228 miles per hour in philadelphia. we had peak wind gusts earlier today of 37 miles per hour. 33 miles per hour in wilmington. and 26 miles per hour in trenton. the reason why we have a wind tunnel effect. low pressure up over northern new england, high pressure over the tennessee valley. that's really funneling the winds right over us. that high pressure will ease over us tonight. so, what this means our winds will ease but with clear skies, temperatures are going to tumble. so our entire viewing area is either under a freeze warning in the aqua or frost advisory in the light blue. what this means is that if you've done any early season planting a good idea to cover up your plants tonight because that frost, that freeze could

and matt pelman who has been dancing around, must have a busy weekend as the latest on the commute home. >> always dancing around all sorts of things especially on the roads. it's just appropriate rick and monica. as if we needed more problems on 202 in chester county. now there's a new crash here in the southbound lanes by the exit for business 322 which of course is high street to take you into west chester. luckily this crash off to the side a tow truck already there. but this is not where your southbound delay ends. it continues on down to near dillworthtown road where we still have that downed pole from the earlier crash late this morning that happened on the northbound side but just one lane of traffic is getting by in both directions. so big delays on 202 through chester county this afternoon. as you're detouring away from the route 23 bridge closure keep in mind in montclair there's a crash on 29. that's bridge street at gray street and we have one right by the cracker barrel in plymouth meeting along chemical road at gallagher road. busy afternoon on 95 and the schuylkill especially with the

philadelphia street. also radnor police have cracked the case of the brazen burglar who got away on public transit. plus a rock and roll icon is making a stop in philadelphia this summer. >> now the details. the search is on for a violent thief who attacked a woman in south philadelphia. it happened near the 900 block of south eighth street nine days ago. now authorities say the victim was walking down the street when all of a sudden she was targeted by a man behind her. "action news" reporter dann cuellar has more on what happened next. >> reporter: police say this was a vicious attack on a woman. she was walking home from the gym when suddenly her attacker comes up from behind and clocks her right in the face knocking her unconscious. police are hoping someone may recognize him from the surveillance footage. this is the man police are looking for captured on multiple surveillance cameras near the area of the attack. police asking our viewers to take a close look at the unique design of the hood of his jacket and the laces on his sneakers. >> bright red or orange laces in his sneakers and a unique

design on the back or the hood of his jacket that appears to be camouflage. >> reporter: wednesday night april 15 about 8:40 that the woman was walking home from the sweat fitness gym in the 700 block of east passyunk on the 700 block of montrose near the 900 block of south eighth when she was punched in the face and knocked out cold. >> one of the witnesses was at tracked by a loud noise outside. >> reporter: the punch was so loud it caught the attention of a witness who looked out the window and saw the aftermath. >> it seemed that after the incident he were through her pockets from he left the scene. >> she was clearly unconscious. >> she was unconscious. >> reporter: police say the victim suffered a fractured jaw and a broken tooth and remembers little about the assault. >> it seems like she didn't even know he was therism witnesses describe the assailant as a black male in his 30's about 5-foot eight with a goatee wearing a white t-shirt and a black zip up sweatshirt. >> we need the public to take a look at this video take a look at those unique features and see if they can provide

information. >> reporter: the surveillance footage will be posted on our web site 6abc.com. anyone with information is being asked to call south detectives at (215)686-3013. in south philadelphia, i'm dann cuellar channel6 "action news." >> the young man accused of shooting his own father in the back of the head while they were driving on the schuylkill expressway is now charged with attempted murder. today a judge ordered 22-year-old keim mere corbin to trial. authorities say corbin's dad was driving him to a drug end mental health treatment center earlier this month when it happened. corbin a charged with aggravated assault. his father remains hospitalized tonight. >> camden county authorities released new details about the fetus found at a recycling business yesterday. they say the fetus died of extreme immaturity because it was unable to breathe on its own. they also determined the female fetus was about 19 weeks old. a worker spotted it on a conveyor belt at the re community recycling plant around 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

investigators are working to figure out how the fetus got there. if you have any information you're asked to call camden county police. from salem county, new jersey ezra evans and jarrod mcclurg rode bicycles around pennsville to scout out vacant homes. they went back when it was dark and stripped copper plumbing and air conditioning units. officials believe they then sold those items for cash. philadelphia police are still searching for four people who robbed a fishtown grocery store around 9 o'clock last night at the fishtown market in the 2300 block of west norris street and they made off with an undetermined amount of money. no one was injured. >> radnor township police identified the burglary suspect who allegedly used public transportation to get away after the crime. they issued an arrest warrant

for upper darby resident matthew heck man. he's the man seen in the video a week ago. he's accused of breaking into an elderly woman's home stuffing one of her suitcases with goods and cash and then walking out. if you have seen him please contact police immediately. from our delaware news room newark police are looking for a chainsaw thief who allegedly got weigh in a stolen car a witness snapped this picture of the suspect tuesday afternoon. the assemblyman suspected of taking a chainsaw from the home depot store on suburban drive. detectives say the car he was riding in was also stolen. the car's registered in pennsylvania with tag number jmd 5349. if you seen the car or recognize the suspect please contact police at (302)366-7100. the montgomery county sheriff's office getting a helping hand from the family of a fallen state trooper. they received portable breathalyzers from the family

of a trooper killed by a drunk driver back in 2008 heading home if work. the ceremony was held at the public safety training campus in conshohocken. >> workers killed on the job in pennsylvania are being honored. the annual workers memorial day event was held today in penn's landing. they carried flags and signs with the names of the fallen through the streets. 144 people were killed on the job last year. among those honored danny vasquez who was stabbed to death in the parking lot of a montgomery county meat plant. his family and the family of fallen philadelphia police officer robert wilson, iii were on hand today. wilson was shot and killed last month when he came upon a robbery. they honored advocates for children at philadelphia city hall this morning. the department of human services along with mayor michael nutter presented the 16th annual children's crusader awards. employees who showed a commitment to protecting at risk children were recognized for their efforts. also honored kim jones the director of the families and schools together program.

jones was shot and killed while on her way to work earlier this year. randolph sanders a former coworker has been charged with the crime. >> pennsylvania senator bob casey was in town today to push for more funding for the delaware deepening project. casey was joined by business leaders around the region here in south philadelphia calling on the obama administration to invest in the project so it can meet its 2017 deadline. the funds will allow the army corps of engineers to deepen a stretch of the delaware river. casey calls it the region's largest jobs project. the federal emergency management agency or fema says it has purged more than $6.9 billion into new jersey since hurricane sandy hit in 2012. the money reimbursed municipal for clearing debris restoring works. fema paid out more than a few billion dollars in flood insurance claims ton elevate homes. >> the red cross is getting a boost thanks to a local grocery store chain. the burns family fresh grocer

running close to 10 to 12 to 13 degrees below normal this afternoon, the 50's that you see, it feels more like the upper 40's out there and in fact air temperature right now in mount pocono is just 43 degrees with dover coming in one of the warmer spots at 56. early this morning we did have some high clouds around but notice as the afternoon progressed a lot of those clouds lifted off to the north and we have a decent amount of sunshine this afternoon and that sunshine will be replaced by a clear sky with stars overnight as high pressure comes in and with that clear sky the winds will start to calm down between five and 10 miles an hour. that's not a good thing 'cause when you relax the wind it allows those temperatures to drop even more so near records tomorrow morning, 28 in the suburbs, 35 degrees for center city. and the national weather service has issued free warnings for a good chunk of our viewing area. all points to the north and west chester montgomery about into the lehigh valley interior southern new jersey

that's where we're expecting temperatures to dip below freezing, a killing freeze for that very tender vegetation or early vegetation that develops this time of year and frost advisories for philadelphia county, delaware county, the entire state of delaware and also southern new jersey so nobody really is in the clear tonight for any frost or freeze. saturday, though, morning sun afternoon clouds, 60 degrees so still below average. we're watching a system that sneaks by just to the south late tomorrow, tomorrow night into sunday morning. a lot of clouds come with it. even a few showers. south of philadelphia and temperatures don't move up all that much on sunday at 60. very similar to saturday. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, sun some afternoon high clouds tomorrow 60 degrees. again, on sunday a lot of clouds will litter the sky and if you live south of philadelphia throughout the state of delaware and in southern new jersey that's your best chance of seeing some showers sunday morning into early sunday afternoon and then everyone gets in on the shower action here come

>> ♪♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with ducis rodgers meteorologist cecily tynan and jim gardner. >> ♪♪ >> this is the way it looked this afternoon as flames attacked a home on the 100 block of mohawk trail in medford lakes, new jersey. and at this hour two firefighters are in the hospital. friday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is a stubborn two alarm blaze in this burlington county community. "action news" reporter walter perez is live at the scene. walter. >> reporter: well, jim giving you a live look at the picture we're about block away from the house there. the call came in about 2:30 this afternoon as a kitchen fire on the 100 block of

mohawk trail in medford lakes. one person lives inside that house. when firefighters arrived smoke was billowing from the windows as you can see from chopper six and the woman who lives there we're told was still inside trying to get the situation under control. now first responders quickly got her outside and it didn't take long for crews to ring a seconds alarm. several fire crews ended up responding and it still took them about an hour and a half to get it under control. we confirmed three firefighters ended up suffering minor injuries along the way and as you can see a lot of trees in this area and the home is an old mostly wooden structure so today's windy conditions were a factor. >> the wind will feed the fire and fan it to places you don't want it to go so it was a factor in the suppression operations yes. >> reporter: all right back out live all three injured firefighters are expected to be okay. one was already released from the hospital. fire crews is still on the scene checking for hot spots. the fire marshal is on the
