"action news" is on top of two developing stories. more aftershocks following that strong earthquake in nepal and we've got new information on a new jersey native who did not make it out alive. >> several people are missing after a boat sinks and went down in the storm. survivors are telling their emotional tales. >> president obama takes the stage as comedian in chief. you'll hear some of his jokes at the annual correspondents dinner. let's go outside to chris sowers. >> reporter: good morning, nydia. it's chilly, but not as cold as yesterday. yesterday parts of the area were down into the 20s, we had overnight lows in places like millville and allentown dropped down to 26, 27 degrees, we're a good ten to 15 degrees milder. 49 in philadelphia.

45 in wilmington. 45 in millville. 44 in trenton. 38 degrees in allentown. 34 in the poconos where we still have a frost advisory in effect for another hour now. its the northern lehigh valley and upper bucks county as well as the poconos this is until 8:00 a.m. this morning temperatures are warm, or at least milder, above 32 degrees, so i don't expect widespread frost, but i wouldn't be surprised to see patchy frost to the south temperatures are milder down here, we're seeing patchy drizzle over the delaware bay region from millville fortescue east ward port norse and portions of cape may county. that also racing off to the east. over the next couple of hours you'll see the skies brighten up and the return ever sunshine here today. promises to be a nice day. look for a combination of sun and clouds on it is greens, a nice gentle breeze, 10:00 a.m.

temperature, 56. 2:00 p.m., 62. we're shooting for a comfortable high of 64. what's ahead? there's a couple of showers on board possible for tomorrow, they will be very brief in nature and move along quickly. still, if you have outdoor plans be prepared for that. sunshine returns by tuesday it turns much, much milder in the seven-day forecast. we have several days where we'll top out in the 70s i'll have the details when i see you again in a few minutes. guys. >> developing out of earthquake-ravaged nepal. tens of thousands of the country's residents who spent the night outdoors were jolted awake by a powerful aftershock sent the people running for cover. rescuers are trying to reach hundreds of people trapped in the wreckage. the quake has killed more than 2100 people. in nepal international teams are helping rescuers search for

victims in the rubble. he -- the epicenter of the quake in katmandu. helicopters have reached the area at the base camp of mount everest. a offices assist and from new jersey died at the camp, while working at the camp. students from muhlenberg college in allentown felt the quake. they are spending the spring semester in asia. studying tibetan and himalayan cultures. >> we were in contact not only by e-mail, but with one of the representatives on stateside we were able to to have a conversation over the phone and one of the mothers face timed

with her son in india. >> reporter: no word on when they plan to come home. "good morning america" weekend will have more on the earthquake coming up at 8:00 after "action news." >> a double shooting in chester this morning police are searching for the gunman. "action news" was there sanl army of investigators -- as an army of investigators and k-9 dogs looked for clues. two people were rushed to crozer-chester medical center. police are working to figure out exactly what happened. no word on a motive for that shooting. more news you did not see last night. police are talking to the driver of a car that hit a person in bensalem bucks county. a pedestrian was hit on street road at 1:30, that person was taken to the hospital in serious condition. the driver has not been arrested. police are still investigating. developing news from alabama, the search is on for 4 people missing after a severe storm capsized sailboats during a regatta. coast guard crews began search

by air and on the water immediately after the happened in mobile bay. 50 people were rescued. one person was confirmed dead. some of the survivors talked about their horrifying ordeal. >> the storm subsided just enough that i could keep my head up and not drink too much salt watter. >> i really thought i was going to die actually. i was scared. i thought that the wave would keep coming in, the boat would sink that would be the end well have to jump in. >> the coast guard continued to search for the missing through the night. there were as many as 200 people taking part in the regatta when the storm rolled in on dolphin island. >> here at home, a camden family is pleading for justice. their star football -- on the

football field and classroom was gunned down. jameer bullard wanted more, he was doing it through academics and the football. >> he was my heart and my nephew and i loved him to death. >> reporter: camden county police say a gunman opened fire on mechanic street around 12:30 a.m. jameer bullard was walking with this 16-year-old front whom we are not identifying for his protection. he said jameer bullard yelled run and pushed him to safety. the 18-year-old didn't know he was hit until he collapsed. >> he saved my life, he is my hero. if it wasn't for him i could have gotten shot. >> reporter: one street over, his mother, father an family mourned the loss of the woodrow wilson high football star. a linebacker who had dozens of offers from college universities

buena, 45. a pair of 44 for smyrna and dover. here's satellite and ray -- radar. what you're not seeing is an area of high pressure over upstate new york, that's why we've been dry all weekend long, it's sitting right there and forcing the moisture west to east out to sea and not allowing it to come up. that's why we're dry this morning. this will push off to the east and should not pose a threat to our weather. the wider view you can clearly see this pushing back, that's the high setting up to the north. that's protecting the weather. that low will push east out to sea and we'll see the return of sunshine in the next couple of hours. future tracker 6 showing by late morning, the sun should be shining brightly out there a light, variable winds temperatures climbing into the 60s, overnight tonight partly cloudy comfortable lows dropping down to the 40s monday things change a little

his daughter turned out to be lessbianlesbian. >> in south america volcanic ash has filled a river in chile that's known for its rich salmon harvest. workers have been using brooms to sweep layers of ash from rooftops. the volcano is still active, but officials no longer expect another big eruption. >> philadelphia police are investigating a late night shooting in frankford. the man was shot in the neck. the victim was taken to the temple university hospital. detectives are searching for that shooter. >> two people are charged with abducting an 86-year-old military veteran and his girlfriend in southwest philadelphia. the couple was forced into a car on thursday morning. the kidnappers forced the couple to rent cars and open a debit card account at a local bank in the victim's name. investigators believe they were going to use the cars and accounts for further activity.

the suspects are 23 years old and 25 years old. more arrests are expected. >> hundreds in ukraine gathered at a memorial for the victims of the chernobyl disaster to mark the 29th anniversary of the worst power plant accident. family and friends laid flowers near their abandoned homes in memory of the victims. the explosion killed 50 people, but the high cancer rate killed thousands. the nuclear plant exploded sending massive amounts of nuclear radiation into the atmosphere.

sunday morning, time for the travel forecast for that we look at satellite and radar. we had heavy hitters out here, we had a wide swath of severe weather across the deep south bowling green kentucky to jacksonville and the panhandle of florida. today that area will shift toward texas and the central plains. witch at that under the gun for severe weather. fairly mild this small area here that's holding on to the chilly stuff, the great lakes the mid atlantic and the northeast temperatures in this part of the country still below average. everybody else will see numbers soaring this afternoon across the gulf coast states and dallas texas. a look at the major homes in philadelphia. all flights were on time, no weather-related delays, logan chicago, low -- hair, 36,

finish to the weekend. tomorrow, temperatures pull back a little bit. there's a chance of a couple of showers, later this week, temperatures start to skyrocket. it will feel like spring with several days in the 70s i'll talk about that when i see you guys again in ten minutes. >> to nepal now, we know a new jersey native was among those killed by the earthquake that devastated that country. the 7.8 magnitude quake triggered an avalanche at the base camp of mount everest. the physician assistant was working at the camp. the quake has killed 2,000 people. and destroyed one of horrific handle marks in the capitol of katmandu. new overnight a crash injured two people in west philadelphia. a minivan and a cared at 52nd

and walnut. the minivan ran into a bus shelter and the car ran on to the sidewalk. medics transported both drivers to the hospital. largest freddie gray protest in baltimore, after hours of peaceful demonstrations, pockets of protesters smashed out windows and store fronts. the crowd at nearby camden yards was asked to stay inside the stadium until police could calm down the situation. gray died after falling into a coma after suffering a spinal cord injury while in police custody. the protest demonstration can not believe how police station handled his arrest. >> he is incapacitated not a threat at this point lay him down on the ground abbey call a ambulance and get him taken care of.

don't just throw him into a paddy wagon like an animal. >> police said gray suffer received a medical attention at the spot where he was arrested and instead put inside a transport van handcuffed and without a seat belt. family and friends dedicate a philadelphia mural in honor of a mother and three children killed in a crash last year. annie mccormick has the story from the tioga neighborhood. >> we're celebrating their life and segly what they -- legacy what they set out to do before the tragedy hit. >> reporter: last july this was the scene when a carjacked vehicle slammed into a fruit stand run by siblings and their mother the family was trying to raise money to build a playgrounds. today family and friends played in the very spot where the city created a mural in their honor.

>> my cousin was doing something to help the community. we wants to continue on their legacy. >> on behalf of everyone in mural arts i meant to play respect to the williams and reid and moore family we are honored and humble to create this mural in service to you and the entire community. >> >> reporter: the city honored michael kevin williams killed in the same lot a year before. the city of philadelphia mural arts program created the loving memory mural project the project was designed with family community and input and painted by the youth violence reduction partnership members. family members prayed and hugged and hoping this is a place they can go to to remember the loved ones lost in this spot. >> in this project we keep a little piece of our family members with us.

in tioga, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> an 18-year-old man has been arrested after a beat down at a spring garden station was caught on camera. andre botiak was arrested for carrying an unlicensed firearm. he attacked two ben franklin high school students after school. nobody was hurt, more arrests are expected. trenton police are looking for a gunman after four people were shot last night. the shooting happened along the unit block of wood street. there's no extent on the injuries or motives for that shooting. >> to politics now several republican presidential hopefuls are spending the weekend talking to iowa votes. 9 candidates appeared in a church for a forum sponsored by the faith and freedom coalition. a number of candidates voiced their concern about gay marriage

and abortion rights. >> meanwhile maryland governor martin o'malley spoke at democratic convention yesterday. he is considering a run for president. so far hillary clinton is the only one who announced her plan to withdrawn she spoke via video tape. a veteran is finally home, sharrie williams has the big reveal. >> reporter: with balloons in place and american flags on it is front yard, the stage is set to give back to a true hero, army staff earth murray. the murray joined the service in 2005 and wounded in 2011 when his base was attacked in average. he is being awarded with a brand new home to call his home. the fully furnished home is big enough for the staff sergeant

bay that's pulling east and working out to sea. there's the live shot of the philadelphia international airport. all is quiet on a sunday morning, present temperature reading, 49 degrees, the winds are light out north northeast at 13 miles per hour. all is tranquil in atlantic city, as well. just a little cloud cover thanks to the system that's pushing through. 47 degrees, a light breeze out of the northwest at 5 miles per hour. the ocean temperature is chilly. 48 degrees, some of the suburbs clearing out nicely, look at the blue starting to show up here. it's the system working east. it will take all the cloud cover along with it. winds out of the north at 5 miles per hour. temperatures this same time yesterday we were down in the 20s and 30s some areas are pushing 50 right now. much, much better, reading 40 degrees philadelphia, 50. allentown, 38. millville, 45. dover, 45. sea isle city 47 degrees.

satellite and radar, high pressure right here, pushing all this down to the south. even though the radar looks pretty active this morning none of this affect our weather this afternoon. with the high planted across pennsylvania it will force all the weather to the south across the virginias and the carolinas. of we'll see severe weather across the heartland of the nation, it includes places like oklahoma city, dallas, northwest of houston you're under the gun for the possibility of a a couple of tornados later on. if you're traveling in that partly of the cannot be prepared for severe weather after 4:00, 5:00 p.m. this afternoon. with the exception of that, most of the lower 48 it was nice and quiet this morning. high pressure in control, it will force the low from west to east off the coast of the carolinas. maybe a few spritzes and sprinkles around the delaware
